Amjadia Pak-Indian in City of London, Westminster

We have now been to Amjadia twice and it hasn’t been busy either time but we can’t imagine why not. Ideally placed, great service and lovely food. Could recommend more. Love Indian food, just off Oxford St, visited Selfridges, this is the place for you.

Having read the bad reviews I was somewhat reticent but arrived at 3pm for booking to a deserted restaurant surrounded by very busy venues. Thus first impressions not good. Food and service ok not the best but not the worst. A couple of curries with starters and a side dish a couple of beers and a couple of glasses of wine 130 quid. Let the tourists come and go but as a local I know hundreds of restaurants both better and certainly cheaper. It was deserted when I left too so this speaks volumes.

Over-priced, terrible food, added chilli to add heat because my partner and I are Indian (just making it hot is not a solution for poor Indian food) and poor, slow service. Pre-cooked meat + curry sauce + chilli = NOT the way good Indian food is made. The only reason we went there was because there were lots of tables free on a Friday night (no surprise). There are several fake high-rating reviews (one review has put 8 x 5-star reviews). AVOID!

We ate here today and it was awful. The food was far too hot and inedible. It ruined any enjoyment. It's also VERY overpriced. £90 for two is far too much for a curry house like this. When we told the waiter it was too hot, he did not seem bothered and said Asian people like hot food. This is a massive assumption because we both thought it was disgusting and inedible. What is the point of food that is so hot that all you taste is chilli? How is that remotely enjoyable? I prefer to actually taste the spices in the food and not have my mouth on fire. Will not be going back and wouldn't recommend it.

Not sure what to make of it. The food tasted like from a jar diluted with water. Waiter midpoint put his phone on speaker and thought that was acceptable. Overpriced garbage food.

I never write reviews but this place really deserves my time. If you want really bland food with a poor delivery charged at ridiculous prices then this is the place to go. A meal for 4 with 4 beers and one bottle of wine. 1 shared starter and only 3 mains came to a whacking great £220. plenty of food left over not because of big portions but too bland to eat. Also really liked the finishing touch of adding £20 services charge in the middle of the unintelligble bill. add in poor service and you have your perfect nightmare at a price. dont set foot in the place.

Super unfortunate! We go to this place every time we visit London. Great food but they are now directing patrons to card skimming :( BEWARE. You are directly instructed to go to an ATM instead of paying in the restaurant and we were skimmed. Unless you want to end up without access to your bank-RUN. Big bummer.

Unspectacular food very highly priced. 2 people - a popadom each, a main, a side, bottle of beer each and shared rice, plus one coffee… £98.00 😳

Worst ever Indian food we had in London and in fact this place says Indian just for namesake. Ordered few curry's and they were all bland & not even hot... no proper spices or thickness. Service was even pathetic.. we had to ask for glass of Water 4-5 times. They do not provide proper Bill, just a paper with things written in bad hand writing. When we were ready to pay, waiter comes & ask can you plz pay Cash... seriously..!!

You have a restaurant on oxford street and you cant even give a printed bill. Really !! Atrocious food, bland soup, almost like a sick soup, bad roti, hard chicken and the worst daal i have ever had, more with the person coming and changing the bill and adding something with his hand later. Never ever go here please if you want a good experience. Beware

Ordered lamb curry special recieved chicken with tell tale holes in the meat confirms that this was a chicken kebab of some sort before being smothered in a generic sauce and rebranded as as lamb special curry !

Awful, no soul, completely empty, only 5 pieces of chicken in my food. 3 friends ate without alcohol, £99 for the three of us without any starters or deserts

Les plats sont plutôt bons, les portions de viande peu généreuses ( 4 bouchées de blanc de poulet) , noyées dans la sauce ( bonne par ailleurs). Les serveurs poussent à la consommation jusqu'à la caricature. Le point d'orgue : avant de nous apporter l'addition, le serveur se montre sympathique, nous demande d'où l'on vient, puis de manière peu subtile , nous demande si on a une adresse gmail et si l'on peut tout de suite mettre un avis ( il nous regarde bien entendu...). Du jamais vu ! Addition salée pour la prestation !

Wow! This restaurant serves the best Indian cuisine in London with absolutely delicious food and amazing service. I’ve visited more than once and it’s 100% my favourite Indian restaurant. The interior is traditional and authentic and I would definitely recommend!!!

The prices here are much higher than the usual indian restaurants around London. And on top of their steep prices they charge VAT (something they call DL on the hand written bill) which is not made cleare before ordering. In the UK the noramal practice is to include the VAT in the prices on the menu, so we were not impressed when getting the bill. The food was ok, not great but also not bad. The service however was bad! They were rude and unfriendly and really pushed for a tip when we paid for the bill. When we politely told them that we do not wish to pay them tips, they were clearly offended. This restaurant rely on tourist that do not know better, but if you are a tourist - then trust me, you'll get much better service and insian food for a better price all over London! Don't waist your time here.

Éramos 4 personas. El primer camarero que nos atendió no hacía más que insistir para que pidiésemos más y más platos. Al final, por 4 platos de arroz y 4 bebidas nos cobraron £112. La cuenta estaba escrita a mano y no se entendía nada. Además el que parecía el dueño nos insistió en ponerle 5 estrellas. Pero se ha llevado una y porque no se puede poner menos. En definitiva, excesivamente caro para la cantidad y calidad.

Went here for dinner the other day. Received a welcome as they remembered me from previous visits. Good selection of Indian dishes and all types of Indian beer. Always attentive service by friendly waiters. Never in a rush with great service and good ambiance. Excellent location for Indian food in the area. Highly recommended.

Tyvärr måste jag hålla med vissa recensioner. Dyrare än vanliga "indier" som finns i överflöd i London. Maten var ok men det finns mängder av mer prisvärda som gör det bättre! Tråkig kypare som konstant försöker sälja på dig fler/större rätter även om du är överdrivet tydlig med vad du vill ha och inte. Drar ner hela upplevelsen. Och ett lagligt korrekt maskinkvitto kan du bara glömma... Nej, en gång aldrig mer.

Went for a quick dinner. The place is good located but a bit dirty inside and poor service - food was the worst Indian I have had in London. The waiter was so rude because he did not get a tip

Had dinner here last night and found the service efficient and food absolutely delicious.

This Indian restaurant just around the corner from Selfridge’s in London it serves typical Indian food , a little more pricey than some other Indian restaurants and the food was lovely and tasty but the service let it down, The gentleman that took our order was very attentive and wanted to make sure that when we ordered hot spicy food we were going to get hot spicy food and that it might be too spicy for us he was concerned that if we order something too hot which may not be able to eat it, (not the case for my family), but after he took our order he disappeared not be seen again, and another waiter bought our food not knowing who had ordered what! We had explained to the first waiter we wanted some condiments on the side, The second chap didn’t know that and we had to order them all over again, so them arrived later into the meal, we ordered an onion chutney that is normally onions tomatoes and cucumber but it was just a diced onion, and an extra £3:95 was added to our bill for that chopped up onion! All in all I can only give this restaurant an average rating

Me and my son dropped in to this indian restaurant in the evening.

He ido este mes de agosto con mi familia. Nos recibió con camarero con una gran sonrisa pero nada profesional. Nos sirvieron la bebida pero la comida tardó tanto que pensamos que se olvidaron (y estábamos solos). Cuando trajeron la cuenta estaba escrita a mano y no se entendía nada, pedimos que nos la explicaran y surgieron varias personas que antes no estaban, uno de ellos se puso en la puerta. No nos dejaban llevar la factura. Ante nuestra insistencia nos hicieron una copia a mano pero no se correspondía con la original, cambiaron algunos conceptos excepto la cuenta, que seguía siendo la misma. Cuando salimos del local nos siguió un camarero durante bastante tiempo y nunca entendimos qué pretendía. En cuanto a la calidad de la comida, penosa y cara.

I feel really sorry for the poor chef who is producing some great stuff, but is unaware of what is going on upstairs. He would be ripping his hair out wondering why he bothers.

These guys are sitting on a gold mine but they need to pull their act together to make it work for them. Service ranges from lackadaisical to excellent depending on whether it's the new young waiter or the older, can't-be-bothered bloke. They need to be more attentive to customers' needs and to show more courtesy when they serve - just be more friendly!

Been here many times with friends family and work colleagues. Always greeted with a warm friendly approach and the quality of the food is always tailored to our requests which is really good.

I’m relatively new to Indian cuisine but have had 2 great dining experiences here. Quaint, attentive and timely service by very polite staff. Well appointed restaurant with attention to detail and an obvious pride in ownership. Food selection was great, willingness to alter menu items without hesitation and affordable. I will go back!

Día lluvioso, fuimos a almorzar y tuvimos una experiencia muy agradable. Mi pollo tandoori era bueno, el arroz era bueno y el nan era genial. El servidor fue cordial y entretenido. La decoración es muy bonita. Debía haber un chef bangladesí en la cocina, ya que el pollo tandoori tenía un poco de calor y eso era bueno. Definitivamente regresaré .

We went there for a spacial occasion. The food was delicious and the service was fast. I can totally recommend their Nan and Masala. Highly recommended.

The food was ok, currys were watery with 4 pieces of meat for a £15 curry. Bread and rice overpriced and kept pushed to get more stuff. Worse than all that was the service worst waiter, got orders wrong, took away the cutlery after our starter and poured water over them then brought them all back (couldn’t even be asked to get us clean cutlery). When we finished I wanted to pay by card, waiter kept insisting I should pay be cash, he said I will give u a discount, told him didn’t have cash, he said I heard her say she has cash (why are u listening to our conversations). At the end he said card wasn’t working I had to walk 10 minutes to get cash out, he was following me part of the way. He had the audacity to add service charge and insisted I had to pay it even though I know I don’t have to pay it. DO not recommend this place at all.

Amjadia restaurant? The food is just OK. The service is, to say the least, interesting. To say the worst it is deceitful. Even if we forget the pushing us to buy more food than we need, even if we ignore the exorbitant popadum (free at most Indian restaurants), the crown jewel of trying to rip off tourists was the story of the water. We asked for tapwater and the waiter advised us that the water isn’t working in the restaurant so we have to buy bottled water. When we asked him about how the kitchen is working he said that “they brought two big boxes of water yesterday”. So we asked him to do us a favor, go to the kitchen with two glasses and fill them up there. To this he said it may take a while because the water in the kitchen is “going very slowly”. We said we would wait. He then came back with two glasses of water and said we should “check to make sure it’s clean”. Once he finally realized he is not going to con us into buying bottled water at some exorbitant price he stepped behind the counter and washed the dishes. So much for no running water.

Amazing food and great service! Totally recommend! Nice and clean place at a good area that’s near all the important sites!

Very slow service - we waited almost an hour for our starters, decent food - the butter chicken was tasty but the chicken masala was rather runny. The check was hardly understandable and the staff didn’t seem interested in explaining or giving us time to look at it. They asked for tip in cash even though they had already included 20 % to the bill. Would advice people not to go here.

We fancied a good Indian last night and walked past Amjadia, looked at the menu and as we were looking a waiter opened the door and asked us if we were coming in, we had a look at the dishes and as the restaurant had been there a long time (mi wife had eaten there over 30 years ago) decided we would try it and see, we had to make a quick phone call and as we were still outside the restaurant did this, as we were on the phone the waiter opened the door and said ‘are you coming in or not?’ Really aggressive and rude, so they lost a customer and we ended up with a really great Indian at Roti Chai 5 mins walk away behind M&S; which serves brilliant Indian street food!

Amazing I have always come back every time for the great service and food. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. I have never had such amazing curry, it’s the best curry in town. The best is the shag prawn, lamb and chicken biriani, king prawn. I would recommend everyone to try these dishes they are amazing with a a burst of great flavours. Amjadia is the best Indian restaurant I have been to so far they have reached up to my expectations. The atmosphere of the place is outstanding, as it is very cultural with the Indian music in the background and many traditional paintings around, really felt like I was in India.

Very underhanded bill was hard to read.Asked for glass of water and was given a bottle at £4.50. Also the staff were very keen to upsell in a very covert way. Certainly would not recommend that anyone should part with their hard earned money here THEY DONT DESERVE IT!!!!

Lea los comentarios, tomó una patada de despeje y en repetidas ocasiones fue decepcionado / molesto por el mismo miembro del personal que intenta vender extras e. sol. Popadoms y agua embotellada, para nosotros. Prescindir de sus modales después de 3 "no, gracias" si no reciben la sugerencia, que no lo hicieron. Honestamente, EVITA. Después de haberlo experimentado una vez, es obvio que este lugar sobrevive al desbordamiento turístico de los otros restaurantes cercanos en la calle. El lugar de Christopher. No desperdicies tu dinero.

Lugar apestoso! ! Restaurante apestoso, mesas apestosas, apestoso personal! ! Yo junto con mi esposa vinimos a comer algo, ya que estábamos sintiendo hambre. El camarero se negó a tomar orden para los entrantes ya que pensó que estamos esperando su tiempo al no ordenar el curso completo (no confiable). Pensamos que el gerente tendría algún sentido, pero se comportó de manera muy grosera con nosotros. Dijo que somos un restaurante ocupado y que no podemos sentir los entrantes. Si queremos estar allí, TENEMOS QUE pedir el plato principal. Por supuesto que nos fuimos.

El restaurante estaba desierto el viernes por la noche, pero en todas partes estaba ocupado, así que pensamos en probarlo.

Found this as we were out walking. Very good service and everything fresh. Lovely poppadoms to start. Curry and chapati delicious. Pleasant discreet music and the waiters saw each table to the door as they left. Worth a visit.

Net achter Oxfordstreet ligt in een rustige zijstraat dit Indiase restaurant. We hebben er zeer goed gegeten. Alle gerechten waren heerlijk en zeker de Naan variant gevuld met zoetigheid vonden wij zeer bijzonder en lekker. En een heerlijke rode huiswijn genomen. Het restaurant is niet al te groot en netjes ingericht. Vriendelijke personeel. Niet echt goedkoop, maar daarvoor zit je dan ook in London.

Vine con mi amigo por casualidad, pero pensé que se veía bien, aunque un poco caro. Sin embargo, había una recomendación de Excelencia en la ventana que significaba que nos aventuramos a entrar. Pedimos popadoms y acompañamientos para comenzar, seguidos de curry con guarniciones de verduras. Después de una larga espera por los platos principales, la Tarka Daal no tenía sabor y estaba aguada. Nos quejamos al respecto, que el camarero nos dijo que así es como debería ser. Al final, la cuenta fue mucho considerando la calidad de la comida. Nos cobraron 4. 80 para los popadoms que me negué a pagar (logré reducirlos en 2) y también pidió que se retirara el Daal de la factura que hicieron. Caro y la comida india más insípida que he tenido!

Went out for a quiet meal for two. The food was ok nothing special but not bad. We both had soda water and lime to drink. When the bill arrived we'd been charged £4.95 for each soda water! It's a ridiculously overblown price. Won't be going back it's as simple as that

In London on business and my husband joined me at the end of the week. Walked past this place and after looking at well priced (for central London) menu decided to come back after a couple of drinks. Restaurant was busy at 7.30pm bit at 10pm (when we arrived) was much quieter. Service was really good, prompt and friendly. Hot towels unwrapped for us at the end of the meal and handshakes all round was a nice touch. Poppadums and one of the best pickle trays we've had in a long while to start; then tasty, well portioned saag and balti with moist chicken, nice Bombay potatoes and a good portion of rice with a naan (included with the balti) for main. Left feeling full but not bloated and with a pleasant tingle on our palettes but not tasting the food into the night! All in all would recommend if in this part of London and would visit again.

We were wandering around the back streets behind Oxford Street looking for somewhere to have a late lunch. We knew we wanted an Indian restaurant but had no idea where one might be. Then, in our peripheral vision, down a side street, we saw Amjadia. It was about 3pm and there was only one family left finishing off their meal. We were made immediately welcome and were struck with how clean and crisp the surroundings were. Indian music played softly in the background and our waiter, who may have actually been the maitre d' was attentive and helpful. After the poppadoms, when our main courses arrived, we were not disappointed. Not often can we taste every individual spice in an Indian meal and this was a pleasant surprise. The chicken was soft and moist, the lamb tender as could be. 5-star dining to be sure. Our host even unwrapped our hot towelettes for us at the end. Highly recommended.

I was a bit sceptical when I read the sign proclaiming "Best Curry in Town", but after having eaten the delicious lamb curry, I am ready to agree. Authentic Indian flavour, a very friendly host and a wonderful atmosphere. What more can one expect?

Really good food and Brilliant service. Starters we had king prawn poori and Amjadia kebab platters were fabulous, followed by we had Amjadia Lamb Curry, Garlic chilli chicken and Tarka Dall, Rice and Garlic Nan were excellent. We really enjoyed the lovely food. Such a good Indian restaurant in Mayfair, No need to go to Brick lane. Service were very friendly and welcoming. We would always visit Amjadia when nearby. Highly Recommended....

Was in London for a weekend away visited Amjadia along with my husband. Food was very tasty only thing we didnt like was curry was served in a white dessert dish instead of stainless steel dish which most Indian restaurants use. This is maybe us being picky. Otherwise food was good.

All of the James Street restaurants were full when I spotted this place tucked away just down Picton Place.

I have been to Amjadia Indian Restaurant, which is near Selfridges, a couple of times before. My first trip there a few years ago was the best curry I had ever had. My recent trip was not quite as amazing. They seemed disappointed that I just wanted to eat and didn’t want lots of extras. I was on my own and going out afterward and didn’t want to be too full. It wasn’t extremely busy but was still hard to get a glass of water. The curry was good, but they got my order wrong and as it took a while to check on me, I couldn’t tell them. While they corrected it my rice got cold. These are not big things but with so many choices, I don’t think I will go out of my way to go back.

The food was beautifully cooked, in generous proportion and well presented. The service was attentive and particular effort was made to make my 7 year old son feel welcome and involved.Thank you for a great night out.

I have visited this restaurant with my children few times in couple of months. The food was lovely, it’s a hidden gem. We all really enjoyed the nice food. Specially their house special Amjadia Chicken Curry and Lamb Jalfrizy was excellent. All my family members loved the food very much. Also their service is so friendly and helpful. Welcoming service with friendly staff. My children love to visit Amjadia Restaurant every single time I am in London. Small hidden place near selfridges in Picton place off Oxford street. It’s been their since 1968. In a highly competitive market running a small over 50 years its amazing.

The food is absolutely delicious full of flavour. There’s a great selection of different food and curries to try from the best is the sag prawn full of flavour and just the right amount of spices added to make it amazing. There service is absolutely outstanding great staff as I didn’t have to wait long at all to receive my food. Lovely staff made me feel welcomed.

I reviewed this place a few years ago when I complained about the awful house wine. So, revisiting the place tonight, I ordered a bottle of Australian Shiraz. It was £24. I'd bought exactly the same wine in Tesco the previous week for £5.99. I guess a place has to have a mark up, but 300%? Hmmm.

Très bonne accueil, les serveurs sont gentils, le service est rapide. La nourriture est très bonne est l'endroit est calme. La déco intérieure est sympa.

Ate here last night- the food was tasty ( I had the sag prawn) but quite basic Nan bread was a bit on the small side but to be fair I couldn’t eat it all anyway

The restaurant had a sign outside stating that they give 25% off food between 3:00 and 6:00 pm. We came in around 5:00 pm. At 5:45 pm, we asked for the check. It took for the server about 20 minutes to produce it, in an almost empty restaurant. He kept saying: it’s coming. He brought the check a few minutes past 6:00 pm. We asked for the discount, he said: “no, that Is only between 12 and 3:00 pm.” He did not give us an itemized bill. When we left, we saw that the sign was still there, so I took a photo of it. Liar. Food was edible. Not more. In addition, we asked for tap water, and he brought us bottled water. With so many good Indian restaurants in London, why go there?

Great service and attentive staff. A tad overpriced is the only negative about this restaurant. But the food was very tasty. Worth a try.
