Ambrosia in Shropshire

I wrote my first review of this establishment on 29 June 2022 and gave it an excellent rating. Having enjoyed an early dinner with my wife and daughter yesterday it does in my opinion still deserve top marks. Comfortably seated at our reserved window table overlooking a very wet Cheshire Street we were treated to a first class service by the team in attendance. From the outset we were very apologetically informed that a few items were not available from the menu due to the Bank Holiday. In the event this did not detract from our overall enjoyment. Since posting my original review prices for the Buffet have inevitably moved a bit higher (like everywhere else!), but at £23.95 per person it still offers extremely good value for money. The food was beautifully cooked and the wide choice of dishes on offer far exceeded our expectations. As an accompaniment we chose Dudley`s Stone Chenin Blanc (South Africa) and a Matra Hills Pinot Grigio from Hungary. Recommended, and eager to return soon.

Booked for birthday meal, unfortunately the experience was not good, food served on cold plates and was not hot, we had to send the chow mien back as it was just cold, when they came with replacement everyone else had finished their meals. It was extremely disappointing as we have used this restaurant numerous times and always good hence our reason for booking for birthday meal, but apology was feeble and I doubt any of our party would return.

Absolutely horrendous takeaway from Foodshion this evening. We have used this restaurant for many years and have never had such awful food. It was cold when it arrived and part of the order missing. Called the restaurant to advise but then had to call back as food was all inedible. Asked to take the food out of the bin and take it back when asked for a refund. Awful customer service .

Amazing buffet, very tasty and reasonably priced. Buffet all you can eat Sunday to Thursday. We'll worth a visit. You need to book as always busy.

Food is very good. Order taken for food and drinks and the lady that took the order was very good and attentive. When it came to serving the food that's when it went downhill. The young girls just dropped the food on the table and when we pointed to whoever the food was for they just ignored us. Not a very nice experience.

Lovely experience. Food was ace - really tasty and fresh - service was brilliant too. We sat in and had the set b menu which was REALLY plentiful. Recommended.

Excellent food, good service, clean and pleasant surroundings and reasonable prices. Plenty of parking nearby. What's not to like?

Visited tonight, food great as always but it was such a shame to realise Watson has gone, one of the reason's we travelled there, he made it great. Possibly won't do the journeys now but the place is definitely worth a visit and staff friendly.

Working in Market Drayton and looking for a nice evening meal found Foodshion. Three adults and we had not booked, what’s great feast we had. The weekday banquet menu was comprehensive and delicious, portion’s generous and service excellent from all staff. Highly recommend for delicious food and great service.

Very happy with everything. Highly recommend. The all-you-can-eat option is very large and will satisfy most appetites.

With a rapidly approaching birthday my wife asked where would I like to go for lunch or dinner? We both enjoy Chinese food and my mind wandered back to an earlier visit to Market Drayton at which time I had espied Foodshion. Researching on the TripAdvisor website I noted that most customers reviews were favourable and photos of the food, and of the restaurant interior appeared inviting. Arriving promptly at 5.00 p.m. on the Sunday we were warmly welcomed and shown to our reserved window table overlooking Cheshire Street. Relaxing into the comfortable seating we observed the privacy of the location set amidst quiet surroundings and felt immediately at ease. Having ordered our aperitifs we began to explore the menus and eventually settled for the "All You can eat menu". This offered well over 100 different items and was really an adaptation of a buffet, except that diner order each course at their table. However, one is free to eat as much as desired with different variations that can be repeated. For our meal we chose mixed platters (skewered chicken, barbeque ribs, prawn toasts, vegetarian spring rolls), chicken and sweetcorn soup and hot and sour soup, crispy duck with pancakes, Yeung Chow fried rice (chicken, pork and shrimp), sweet and sour pork balls, and egg fried rice. To accompany the various dishes our drinks were J20 fruit jujice (apple and raspberry) and Tsing Tao Chinese beer. With the exception of one "overlooked" soup (when brought to their attention quickly rectified with apologies) otherwise the service provided throughout was excellent. The food was well cooked, a ppetising, and fully met with our expectations and at £19.95 per person in our opinion represented good value for money. It should also be mentioned that the Silver Service, very clean surroundings including the washroom facilities ticked all of the right boxes. Living only some 20-25 minutes drive away from Market Drayton we thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience in the expectation that we shall be revisitin g again soon.

I was looking forward to trying this restaurant due to the good reviews , we are vegetarian so ordered the Pad Thai with mixed vegetables (V on the menu) as a takeaway but when we started eating, it had bits of shredded chicken in it and also a bit of clear plastic! The flavour was lovely but we are very disappointed and will not be ordering from Foodshion again.

The food was absolutely delicious! We came on a Thursday evening and had the All You Can Eat - not a buffet though - all freshly cooked to order. The food was hot and full of flavour and the service was friendly and fast. We will definitely be visiting again :-)

Exceptional restaurant that serves truly authentic food. The owner provides really good service and is very friendly and professional. A great range of food from various menu's including the amazing "all you can eat" for £18.95. unhurried and personal service where customers are clearly valued. Good range of dishes for various diets including Gluten free. Good range of plant based options all absolutely delicious. First time but certainly not the last.

We visited Market Drayton on out canal Boat. After a Couple Of drinks around the town we chose to eat at this restaurant. On walking in we was greeted by friendly smiling staff. We chose the all you can eat menu! Great food & Great service. Head of service Watson was the best ever so friendly. The food was fab too. Cant wait to re visit. Highly recommend

We went for a midweek treat and it was the buffet menu which was excellent value at £18.95, order as much as you want as often as you want. All the dishes were lovely, service was great too, will be back.

Our first takeaway since lockdown and it was well worth the wait. Starters were excellent - perfect crispy duck - followed by delicious Mongolian pork. All beautifully presented and with delectable fresh vegetables. Couldn't recommend a restaurant more highly - streets ahead of anywhere else...

We’ve had lovely Chinese food in many nice restaurants but this was something else. We opted for set menu B and being big eaters it defeated us both!!! You absolutely must try the salt and pepper chips oh my god they are to die for....

This is a really pleasant place to dine, with good quality food which is well cooked. The menu is very diverse, and suits a wide spectrum of tastes. Staff very friendly and obliging. A pleasant ambiance.

I have never eaten in Foodshion, however I have ordered plenty of takeaways from here. The delivery times are brilliant, even on a busy Saturday night! The food is lovely and my personal favourite is the Chicken in Black Pepper sauce. One of my favourite places for a takeaway in the local area, and I am sure the food and service is just as good inside!

We visited Foodshion Garden for the first time to celebrate our sons birthday during a weekend away. Food was delicious, service fabulous and value for money superb. Would definitely recommend and if we are in the area again will definitely return!

We ate here one Saturday evening before heading off to the theatre. We hadn't booked but they managed to squeeze us in. We were placed by the counter where they take orders for the takeaway and people collect from there. This isn't the best table in the house because of that but they were up front about it. The food choice is extensive and was delicious. Would definitely recommend for the great choice of food on the menu.

Fabulous early bird menu, both young children made to feel welcome. Brilliant take aways. And been on a busy night with friends and food was still brilliant, hot and not a huge wait time!

Went to Foodshion Garden for Valentines Day.. the service was excellent and the food even more so. The prices are mid range and served efficiently and well presented , with plate warmers to keep your dishes nice and hot ! brilliant evening..

We enjoyed an early bird meal here, just to see what it was like and we were pleasantly surprised. On another occasion, we ordered a banquet takeaway. It was both delicious and plentiful.

Nice venue with good air conditioning but the meal was strange and heavy on very sweet sauces that had an artificial taste.

Haven’t tried this restaurant under the new regime and was pleasantly surprised that basically still the same sort of premises it has always been. Nice to see that different styles of cuisine are on offer now alongside the oriental staples, keep up the good work.

The restaurant is nicely decorated and lovely fresh white cloths and napkins. The meal, although nicely presented and in abundance, was lacking in taste. We had the banquet which was probably too generous and would have an individual dish if we go again.

After reading some comments on CV3 about this restaurant we decided to try it....omg so glad we did it is fantastic. The food is amazing and the service fantastic. Been 3 times and each time has been great. Looking forward to going next week.

The staff were really friendly,the food was excellent.Unfortunatly they forgot to bring out the crackers we asked for ,but they are free of charge,and we didn't remind them.however they more than made up for the very small error by the manager giving us a lift home in his own car as there were no taxi's available locally.You can't beat that for service,and we will defiantly be regulars there.

Booked at short notice for a table of 12 for a birthday party. The staff were really friendly and accommodating from the outset. Most of us went for the set banquet and it was incredible.

Great food here with a wide selection of Asian styles. They do Chinese, Mongolian and Thai dishes. We had one last f the set banquets and loved it. Try the fillet steak in ginger and spring onions as it is lovely. Great service and a top range of drinks too. It was a very hot evening and the air conditioning was a very welcome touch. I will be going back for more here. Very impressed.

An excellent Chinese restaurant with London quality cuisine. Excellent food, wide choice with charming staff. We eat there on a hot Summer night and found the decor uncluttered and a very interesting and delicious menu.

We made a last minute reservation at this restaurant having just travelled up to Shrewsbury from London to visit relatives. This is quite possibly the best Chinese meal we have ever had. The waiting staff were so attentive and always had a smile. We went for banquet B set meal which eventually bet us such was the portions and quality of the food. We will definately be return customers and would recommend it to everyone.

We visited as two couples on a Friday night. We had reserved a table, but as it was quiet I doubt that would have been necessary. The manager was friendly and helpful, making recommendations about the food and attentive to our needs. The service was swift and the food was delicious. We tried the Mongolian dishes for something new and were very impressed. We certainly recommend and will be visiting again.

We ordered a takeaway from Foodshion last night. When I went to pick it up it turned out that they had mis-heard our order of prawn balls and given us pork balls instead. However, the manager was very good and immediately asked the chef to make up a batch of prawn balls at no extra charge, and let us keep the pork balls too as they couldn't use them.

As we approached on a quiet Sunday evening, this building covered in scaffolding and under new management, we were not sure it would be OK. I am a real veteran of eating Chinese, Thai. Curry generally and found myself very pleased. We had a very nice table of 4, the staff did a very good job and the food arrived very quickly. ( so fast my colleague thought it was Pre made. I felt it was freshly made. Perhaps you could let people know the answer.?) I had noodles and Mongolian king prawn. Good intensity of flavour, could have been a little spicier, but a very tasty dish. The other three meals all went down well, a nice bottle of red too. About £60ish..I would recommend and would definitely return. Thanks to our waiter and the very pretty waitress and also the owner who made us feel very welcome.

We have the delivery service which is prompt and easy to order if you have the mobile number as the land line is no good. This is the third time we have had food from here and I am impressed with the choice and the choice for vegetarians. Will use again.

We tried numerous places last minute for a large group booking, Foodshion kindly managed to squeeze us in. We really enjoyed our meal, the food and drink were all lovely we would all return again.

Since being under new management you can’t beat this place. The service is great and the food is excellent. Highly recommended.

When I rang to make the reservation for the evening the gentleman asked if there was any celebration so I said 'yes' my birthday. On arrival they had put a banner and table confetti down which we thought was lovely. We all chose our drinks and food and the wine was recommended to us. All our food choices were amazing , dumplings, sesame prawn toast and spicy chicken wings,then two had red Thai curry, and two had Mongolian curries. They were amazing. Only one had deserts, and as a lovely surprise the staff came out singing happy birthday with a lovely piece cake with a candle in. Coffees also excellent. Overall the welcome, the food the service and manager/owner and all the staff were first class and we will certainly return.

We visited as a couple on Saturday night. We both love Chinese food but there seem to be less and less Chinese restaurants these days, and where we live in Shrewsbury there aren’t any. So we were pleased to find this place. The restaurant itself is really pleasant inside, the staff lovely and the food of a really good standard. My other half loves ribs and he rated the salt and pepper ones here - they were quite big and meaty. We followed up with chicken and mushroom and duck in a crispy coat with a plum sauce - both very enjoyable. We’ll certainly be back.

The food is over priced for what you get I think this place is to posh for Drayton maybe lower the prices a bit or get cheaper stuff in if your chefs are any good they can work with cheap stuff and make it outstanding

Our first visit since the change of name (this used to be the New Ambrosia). The menu has a good selection of dishes and our food was excellent (the Mongolian Chicken was particularly nice). Service was fast, attentive and friendly and all in all we had a very pleasant evening.

4 of us had a fantastic evening and meal. Excellent food and service. They even decorated the table and sang Happy birthday. Nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be going again.

We went with myself husband and disabled son who it in a power chair. Access was good but through the back. Suggest a security light as very dark on leaving. Food very good. Staff good with my son. Would recommend to others.

La peor comida he encontrado desde cualquier chino, ver fotos! Carne fue horrible, parecía extremadamente duros y ácidos grasos, salsa era aguado y soso, fue destinado a ser salsa de pimienta negra. Tras llamar por teléfono y no protestar, sólo un verdadero servicio ofrecido lo siento. ¡Nunca más!

Nuestro grupo de cuatro visitó hace poco más de una semana. El personal fue muy atento y amable. Los entrantes, que iban desde la sopa de pato aromáticos eran muy buenos. Nuestros platos principales estaban igual de bien. Si te gusta su Pad tailandés muy picante, este es el lugar!

We visited here for the first time to meet some friends who live in the area. myself and my husband ordered the food platter for 2, and were amazed at how much food there was. The chicken and sweetcorn soup for starter was absolutely delicious. After a couple of mix ups with a friends meal, the owner was extremely apologetic and went out of his way to make sure that everything was ok. Lovely food, wonderful staff. Worth a visit.

We have only had takeaway food. Our meals have been better than other Chinese , they really make an effort to provide a variety of more interesting ingredients and give value for money. The restaurant looks very smart and we will give it a try.

A great Chinese restaurant in market drayton. The food has improved greatly since we first started to visit here. It really is very good quality. The staff are pleasant and offer good freshly cooked food. Worth visiting.

We visited on Friday evening to celebrate my husband's birthday. We arrived about 7:30 and were greeted by a friendly waiter. I was surprised how quiet the restaurant was.When we sat down we had drinks and complementary prawn crackers.There is an extensive menu but we decided to go with one of the set meals. Set meal C included chicken and lettuce wraps, crispy duck pancakes, three mains (Schezwan chicken, Cantonese steak and Sweet and sour prawns) vegetables and special rice. They let us swap the prawn sweet and sour for chicken. There was loads of food and the set meal seemed very good value when you look at the individual prices. The food was all really tasty- the chicken wraps and duck pancakes were especially delicious.

The menu is extensive, with lots of set menu options that work out well if there's a few of you eating out. They are really helpful when it comes to changing the odd dish if it doesn't suit you. The food is always tasty, but sometimes the atmosphere is a bit lacking... their sister restaurant in Loggerheads has the same quality food, but has a more intimate setting, and somehow has a nicer atmosphere, but this one is still well worth a visit if your in Drayton.

the staff wouldnt stop staring at me and my mrs, i ordered a beef curry which was served with no rice or chips, so i ordered a side of chips got offered no sauces the mrs had crispy pork balls which were full of fat and under cooked wouldnt recommend the place to my worst enemy 8 pound for a bowl of curry sauce! not happy

Went this evening for a rare meal out, what a good choice! The food was delicious, will definitely go again and would heartily recommend to anyone, a fabulous meal.The restaurant has been redecorated & updated to a beautiful standard, a really lovely place to eat.ALL the staff were friendly & helpful with just the right amount of attentiveness, we were mostly attended to by a lovely mannered, polite young lady who I believe was called "Mia?" Thank you Mia, you were fab :)If you're on trip advisor looking for a place to eat in Market Drayton then look no further, you won't be disappointed.

Our daughter took us to this wonderful restaurant last night. She had enjoyed their carry out food several times so she was keen to take us there for dinner.We had the most delicious meal. The wun tun soup was the best we have ever had and the crispy duck with pancakes was so good. Loved all the dishes especially the spicy Mongolian beef. Big compliments to the chef!The restaurant is beautifully decorated.Phong the proprietor and our waiter, James were very friendly and attentive.Give this restaurant a try. You will not be disappointed.

Market Drayton on a Sunday night in October was not lively ! Found this nice Chinese. Nicely decorated friendly guy running it and the food was really good. Delicious salt and pepper squid and satay chicken. Huge portions! Definitely recommend. We were on a boat and it was a welcome break from pub food !

Six of us turned up from the nearby canal and we enjoyed a lovely meal - variety of dishes ordered and good advice about quantities of rice and noodles. And for those of us on canal boats, the restrooms were a pleasure to visit! Great value too!

Had a takeaway on the advice of a friend. Truly, an excellent meal. As a veggie, I find choices limited and not always of the highest quality.This was wonderful.

Visited this restaurant for the first time yesterday and what a great experience. The food was delicious, not just the usual Chinese served up. The staff made us feel really welcome and couldn't do enough to make our meal as nice as possible, made such an effort with our little one. One other thing that sold out was the nice decor and how clean the restaurant and toilets were. I will be visiting more often with friends and family and o would definitely recommend.

I had a delivery on Wednesday and it was fast delivery and the food was stunning.I was in market Drayton this afternoon and decided to go in to restaurant, which is beautiful inside and get a takeaway. Food was stunning again... Very consistent.I had chicken curry, fried rice, sweet and chicken balls and the most divine steamed dumplings... Steamed dumplings are so hard to find at a take away and these are 2nd to none. The staff are friendly and welcoming And I cannot find one negative to say about this restaurant.Once you've tried this food, you will not go to any other place, be it to eat in, takeaway or delivery.

Nicest Chinese in Drayton. Possibly the nicest Chinese I've had anywhere actually! Always come here if we wanted a proper treat. Staff are really pleasant and efficient.
