The best fish and chip bar I have ever been to anywhere in the UK! Honestly

Called in on the off chance as was only passing by but so glad I did. The portion size was huge and the food quality was fabulous. The staff were really pleasant and up for a laugh. The long queue was handled with speed and the atmosphere in the takeaway was jovial with everyone laughing at the chap doing the frying (may of been the boss) as his singing was hillarious. I have saved this place on my favorites list as my job often takes me that way and this is deffo one of the best fish and chips in the UK

I Just Ordered this Evening and like always the food and service was 10/10. Tony and Co. Are such an ispiration of family run businesses. Will be returning no doubt! Keep up the good Work. Kash

Lovely lightly battered fish again

A return visit after a couple of years away from the Lakes and the fish and chips were just as good as the first time. We had the regular fish and chips at just under a tenner each and the portion size was spot on. Not too big and not too small. Both were cooked as we waited which was absolutely fine as the view of the lake at sunset is pretty much perfect to look at. We were given a little alarm that beeped when our food was ready, which I think is a great idea and not one I've ever seen before. Staff were very friendly and cheerful and a credit to the shop. Will be definitely returning again!

Hot and tasty. Great service. Very popular with locals. Best chips in ages (far superior to those in Southampton)

Visited recently for the first time with my 7 year old daughter. Food was great, lady behind the counter friendly and polite. Definitely going back

How Rude! They forgot to cook my food, so I asked for a refund after 20 minutes and took a barrage of abuse even from the cook which is weird because he only has one job (cook) and messed that up, told not to come back because of their mistake, so embarrassing I just wanted to get out of there. Needless to say I won’t go back. These guys haven’t got a clue

Omg the best. Do they even know what the meaning of small is. Make sure you have an appetite but you won’t be disappointed

Very friendly owners - spent ages talking to us and chatting and helping out other customers - they seem to have a regular following and it got really busy at one point with both locals and visitors. The portions of fish were massive and chips also - we couldn’t finish ours (4 of us with individual portions). Would recommend and happy to support these local owners.

Used to love this chippy and would not go anywhere else. Now I'm afraid I avoid. Last delivery the fish was so thin and a mini fish was the same size of the large fish. I notice no more queuing out the door. Unfortunately that tells you what the rest of people feel. Such a shame.

Used to absolutely love this chippy! Whole family were regulars. Unfortunately last couple of months, when we have had deliveries the food has only just been warm (and we don’t live far from the shop) The food quality has also changed (which I hate to say) used to always have fish cakes- don’t know if the recipe has changed or how they make it etc has changed, but definitely gone off them now. Hoping the normal Ambleside standard will return soon. We was hoping it was a one off etc, but seems to be normal now the last few months :(

A very strange chip shop. With a very odd menu no options for chicken and chips for one person. Nope you get a whole tray £5 and £4 for a bag of chips. Which would be a good deal if you was feeding a family of 6. Absolutely useless as someone eating on my own. Never seen anything like it. However the chip and chicken was nice. Shame so so much had to go in the bin. Also most of the menu was pretty pricey for what is a very standard dated looking chipshop

Poor value for the fish. I’ve had a couple of poor value home deliveries and have given the benefit of the doubt, but after the third poor meal in succession I have to say something. The chips are brilliant. There’s the big positive. But the fish! Looks big, but it’s mostly batter - takes up a lot of space on the plate, but is all golden brown and very little white. Over £20 for a mini fish & a ‘normal’ fish plus a regular chips is never worth it. Ambleside, please give some assurance or you’ll lose me as a customer.

Went during lunchtime, and the lads freshly cooked 2 x cod and chips, and the meal was perfect. I have been a regular for years, and it never fails to amaze me with the quality of food, service and huge portion sizes.

Order 2 cod. Had one the other week was beautiful this week really crispy batter and hardly any fish in one piece (it was a tail piece) the meat that was in it was dry and tough. Asked for hardly any batter on the other piece and it was thick and crispy. Disappointed compared to previous ones we have had 😞

What has happened Ambleside chippy. Just received our order fish bites are so small. Mini fish, were mini. Normally we rave about your generous portions, that's why we order smaller sizes. Very disappointed. Would have ordered bigger sized fish if we new.

I decided to finally try Worcestershires best chippy and I was not disappointed at all , we had fish and chips and belive me it was big enough to feed myself and my wife ! The service was just as good as the food as all the staff were so welcoming and also the young man who wears a backwards baseball cap cooking was very talented in his knowledge of sport which I found very useful while waiting for our food ,would definitely make the long trip again as was worth every penny

Picked up an extremely poor quality fish from here, soggy, greasy and worse of all, very little cod. Chips were nothing to write home about. Called them and had the most bizarre and irrelevant conversation with owner (the original owner’s son). It was much better back in the day. Drive on by….

Tonight we had our first dodgy meal from Ambleside. The haddock was rank and the curry sauce was luke warm. It was a very expensive treat that we won't be repeating.

Visited today with my daughter (2) and my friend. Walked in, and was looking at the menu as I’ve never really given this chippy a try. Wanted to see what food they had on for my daughter to eat. I was shouted from the back of the room “what do you want girls” to which my friend kindly replied “we’re just looking at the menu”. Well, what a mistake that was, apparently in these kind of establishments you’re meant to know what you want before you walk through the door and the menu’s above are obviously not to be used! There was nobody waiting to order other than us! We got verbally abused by the man I believe to be the “owner”, he was swearing and clearly was NOT happy with the fact that we weren’t quick enough to order (we had literally just walked through the door). We actually thought he was joking at first so we were laughing along, but he seemed to be getting more and more annoyed. I can most definitely take a joke, but I also know when somebody has crossed a line! We walked out of there completely shocked at the way he spoke to us. I know a lot of people who come here, and people who know the owner very well. I’ve been told that it’s just his “personality” and it’s just “the way he is” but I think he’s rude and needs to learn how to speak to customers properly! I am definitely not one to write a review, as I’ve worked in places where sometimes I think the reviews could be really unfair. But this place deserves no stars for its customer service what so ever!

I think the fish and chips here are fabulous and are big in both quality and quantity. There is a good choice of different fish and because I spent over a certain amount, I was entitled to a free bottle of coke! Tremendous!

Bought fish, chips, curry sauce and mushy peas - and was very disappointed. Shared with a family member as the portions are huge. Chips were mediocre, fish tasted a bit funny (like it was a bit stale) and was coated in a soggy batter that...

People rate this chippy highly, can't see why unless it is something other than the fish and chips. The portions *are* huge which probably goes some way to explain the appeal but quantity is not everything; the batter was laden with oil which tasted over-used...

Having tryed a few recommended fish and chip shop,we decided to come here......well I have too say them best iv had in woecester .. large piece of flacky cod crisp batter ....and, a desperate Dan serving of chips......the staff are friendly helpful.....and cheerful......been going back...

I've been going here for years and it never disappoints, the staff are friendly (and entertaining) and the food is good quality, in fact the only bad thing is that when you visit other chip shops you'll think "It's good, but it's no Ambleside".

Fantastic delivery service, I ordered my food to come straight away 45mins, it took slightly longer 60 mins. Food was piping hot, great portions.will be using delivery service from now on

First delivery from Ambleside have to say it was lush lush lush! Ordered about 5pm to arrive for 8pm delivered at 7.50pm piping hot (which is a must) loved every mouthful...

My first visit.After reading reviews i thought i would try.Despite Friday lunchtime. being busy they were well organised and i soon got to front of queue.As people say fish and chips were lovely (huge portions).Staff very polite.Would definately recommend.

Tried pretty well every kebab shop in worcester, n Ambleside kebabs are for my money the best for size n quality.

This chippy is now closed down by order of the High Court so I suggest it is likely to be closed for good. It was never a restaurant although a decent enough chippy with good size portions.

There is nothing special about this chip shop. I waited for 15 minute in the queue that extended out the door on a dismal day. The chips were soggy and some stuck to the paper. Lack of vegetarian options. The place was also full of people with the most vile mouths.

One off Worcestershire best Fish and Chip shops. Where they insist on serving you up One of the largest portions of fish I have ever seen, then give enough chips for three people in one portion. Top shop !!!!!!!!!

We had a takeaway from here. I had no idea how the ordering system worked so I just joined the long line. It moved along quickly and fish and chips was being cooked at such a rate that I didn’t have to wait long for my food. We also made the mistake of ordering what we normally might but it was waaaaay too much! I had read the reviews about large portion sizes but I didn’t realise how big they would’ve. Our first ever visit we made the mistake of ordering what we would normally order elsewhere & we ended up with excessive amounts left over.Always a queue but don't ever let that put you off. You won't be disappointed on service, portion, taste & quality. We don't go anywhere else.

As good as a fish and chip shop could be.We ordered a large fish & chips, a special (mini fish, sausage & chips) and a curry sauce, we left with a large fish, another pretty large fish, a sausage, 3 curry sauces, a can of coke and enough chips to feed 6 people, I’m not exaggerating. When the two of us had finished there were 1.3kg of chips left over. Comically large. £15. Crispy fish, very friendly staff. Highly recommend.

My family insists on travelling to Ambleside for fish and chips and the reason is that they are always amazing. Portion sizes are excellent and the food is always fresh and delicious. Would recommend to anyone wanting great fish and chips!

This is our favourite fish & chip shop by miles, everything is always freshly cooked & it’s really popular with queues especially on a Friday tea time. Definitely worth waiting for.

A good local chippy that does exactly what you need it too, tasty hot food at a good price. Not too much more to say except go for the cod, it's amazing.
