Amavi International Cuisine in Chelmsford

Recommended as a quick place for supper before the Theatre . Did not disappoint ! Super friendly staff - fast service - fresh & tasty food - hidden gem in plain sight in Victoria Road New Street end just down from the station near the Traffic lights. Give it a try 🎉

I gather ‘Amavi’ means ‘loved’ and our family all loved this restaurant. The sign outside is deceptive - the decor is full of character inside. Our children like the bouncy chairs! We were surprised to have to give a £10 per person when booking by phone, especially as there were only 2 other tables of customers, even on a Saturday night. But the low number of customers and the freshly cooked food meant that our meal was not rushed - though it was a longer wait for food than at other restaurants, all 6 mains arrived at the same time. The ‘open kitchen’ is not easily visible from the front tables and now has covid-safe Perspex screens, but it’s quite nice being able to watch the cooking and see how clean it all is. Our waiter was great, charming, and answered our questions to the best of his knowledge. The menu is extensive - I’m not sure it’s fully ‘international’, but it has a wide range of italian meals and some other interesting options I haven’t seen on other menus, with an influence from the Romanian owners. The children ate all of their pizzas and pasta, my husband enjoyed his chicken pan (the only asian option). My beef stroganoff and creamed potato was delicious, and the pieces of gherkin in it added a different texture. Everything was beautifully presented in magnificent dishes. The desserts were delicious: the chocolate pancakes and fudge cake were very chocolaty and the Romanian doughnut (papanasi) was beautifully crunchy and the sweetness was offset by the crème fraiche and fruit sauces. We had some cocktails - be advised they no longer offer a happy hour and the drinks seem small for the price. It’s not the fastest, cheapest or busiest place to eat in Chelmsford but is a really great independent restaurant. It’s great for a couple, a family or a big group and I really hope more customers discover its charms and keep it open.

Attentive service and a fantastic selection of Mediterranean dishes at reasonable prices. Big portions and great flavours. Smashing atmosphere and I would recommend for a romantic meal for two or a works outing.

We went for our first meal there on a Tuesday night. The staff were very nice, but we were the only ones in the restaurant. By the sounds of it they make their money moreso via takeaways.

This is our 2nd time at the Amavi Restaurant. Really lovely experience. Neighter of us likes the "lamb" in general cause of the taste and smell. We had heard about this place and wanted to try for a while. Mothers day gave us the ideal opportunity to go. We weren’t disappointed. Great staff really welcoming and friendly. Excellent menu choices. The service was faultless and the food and drink kept coming and such a high standard. It has now become our restaurant of choice. We have not one complaint. Oh yes there is the chairs are a little uncomfortable if I have to find something. Try this place you won’t be disappointed. 5* for us.

We visited recently, as a family of 4, having seen a review video on YouTube in which the reviewers said it's the best food they've had. So, we went with great expectations & excitement. Unfortunately, though, we were left feeling rather disappointed. The staff are very friendly & efficient. The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated too. However, the good was disappointing. For starter we shared the Peasants Platter, which the reviewers had had. What we were served was very different to what the reviewers were given. What we got was basically a platter of fat & chewy rind with some pork scratchings alongside a couple of slices of (tasty) brawn. Main course, my son said his pizza was good & my Wife enjoyed her Moldovan stew. However, my chicken burger was nothing special & my other son had the Carbonara. The reviewers had this & it was served to them as the chef's own take on Carbonara. Their dish had slices of crispy bacon on top & was said to be very tasty indeed. However, the Carbonara my son was served was just a normal one with no bacon on top. One of my sons had room for dessert & chose the chocolate pancakes, which he remarked were good. Another let down was my Wife's Long Island Ice Tea, which is her favourite cocktail. However, she didn't consider it worth the £10.95 it cost. She said it was weak & having tasted it I can vouch for that. This cocktail generally tastes 'boozy' due to its alcohol content but this one didn't at all. If anything it just tasted like a watery cola. So, there were some good points but nothing special & quite a bit of disappointment. Maybe, on another day, choosing different dishes, it could be a better experience but in light of our visit, we will not be in a hurry to return, unfortunately.

Came here in October for a birthday meal, the food was great and the service was lovely. We shared the goat’s cheese to start which was amazing, I had the penne pollo calbrese and my partner had the bolognese, both of which were really tasty. The portion sizes were also huge - I am often wary about ordering a pasta but this was plenty of food and great flavours. Will definitely come back here!

Love this place! I booked a table for 4 after a recommendation from a friend and wasn't disappointed.The food was delicious! Something for everyone, with a great choice of pasta and pizza as well as other dishes. Warm and friendly, prompt but unhurried service.Nice relaxed but buzzy atmosphere. We booked a Tuesday night to take advantage of the current Eat out to help out scheme, but i would happily eat here any night and pay full price.My only niggle was the music, it was a little bit too loud considering it was dance music. I have to say though, after a couple of glasses of rather fine Malbec i didn't notice it quite so much! I will definately be booking a table again.

My favourite Italian restaurant in Chelmsford. The food is always great here, I've never had a bad meal. I get my takeaways from here and sometimes sit in. I recently visited with a friend and the calamari starter was lovely and I enjoyed the Palma pizza. The staff are really helpful and friendly.

I’ve never eaten here before, I ordered online and was expecting good food at least, but what I got was so much more!! The taste, different flavours, the spice, the combination of ingredients.. oh my, it was one of the best things I ate!! I will soon come and eat at the restaurant, because by the look of the dishes on the various photos I’ve seen, the presentation is as good as the taste, and that would make the whole experience even better!Great food!!

Booked a table for 4 on a Saturday evening for 8pm . We stayed for a couple of hours and the place had no other customers all evening which is a real shame as the food was very good .We had various starters ranging from a mixed platter of meats , breads cheese ( enough for 4!) Houloummi chips, mussels all excellent . For mains we had Belly of Pork , chicken with Gorgonzola sauce , and Pasta again all very good and very big portions . The prices were reasonable for Chelmsford standards . Would go again but the fact it was empty all night apart from us is a little worrying , they seem to have to rely on takeaways . If you like well prepared tasty food give it a try , go hungry though !

Visited Amavi for the first time after a quick look at the menu as I walked to the station - the setting is a little basic but the food and service couldNot be faulted . Tried the Halloumi fries and the chicken Parmesan both of which were very tasty - we shared a bottle of wine too and found the prices to be very reasonable- highly recommended.

Despite its fairly unassuming exterior, Amavi is home to some of the finest dining in Chelmsford for a reasonable price.The most striking thing about the menu is just how ridiculously extensive it is, which could be offputting to some; they offer about 30 different types of pizza, along with the usual pasta/salad/meat dishes.I had the crispy chicken strips and panko chicken, both of which were fantastic. Not only were the portion sizes very generous for the price (about £4 and £12 each), but the presentation was far and above what you'd expect for that price tag.Staff were very friendly and the overall ambiance was very relaxing.A few minor issues which kept me from giving it 5 stars:- Red wine was ice cold, which for a restaurant is a pretty silly mistake to make.- Our table had no drinks menu when we were seated so we waited about 10 minutes to get a drink- Staff didn't tell us which food on the menu was unavailable while seating us, so I only found out when ordering.These are again small issues that could certainly be fixed, and overall didn't affect the experience much at all. The quality of the food and the price you're paying speaks for itself.

Food was very tasty and the portions were very generous. We even got an extra complimentary starter each! Will definitely be going back. Only thing I would recommend is to heat the plates so pasta dishes stay hot for longer.

I had no idea what to expect but was delighted by what was served to me, again and again and again. This is because every part of every course tasted sooo good. The food was well-presented, generously positioned and we didn't have to wait very long for each course. My main was the extra-meaty pizza, which was so good I would easily say it's the best pizza in Chelmsford.

I have been here a few times this year, my most recent visit was with a group of 20 of us. We had a mix of starters, pork belly and the breaded chicken are just divine. Considering the size of our groups, all meals came out hot and there was probably only about 10 mins maximum between the first and last person getting there food. Considering that everything is cooked fresh, that is pretty impressive!

Amazing food and service, we went to amarvi as we have heard lots of good things about it from friends and we was not disappointed. We ordered the antipasti starter which when watching the chef create it, it was done with so much care and the presentation was amazing. Then we ordered pizzas and one of us ordered pasta which all had so much flavour but couldn’t finish it has it was quite a lot of food. Definitely will return!!!!

I read the review telling people not to visit this restaurant as they had to cancel their Groupon voucher . On my first visit my daughter and I had an excellent meal using a Groupon voucher. So I purchased another to use on a night out with friends . The restaurant rang to apologise and tell me the voucher had been cancelled. But they could still honour my booking and would give us a discount by way of apology for the inconvenience. Very professionally handled.

Tonight was the first time we were here; loved it! We had seafood calzone and bolognese pasta. We were very happy with the quality of food served. Definitely worth trying and we will be back!

My father booked this place on a groupon, and we thought we should use it for his birthday. This area of Chelmsford is often forgotten, people favouring the chains in the high street. However, they will be missing out. The restaurant is small and intimate, however, you can see the chef working away. And the food that they’re producing is fantastic!!! The starters were beautifully presented, and the main course very tasty and filling. On top of that the menu is inexpensive. Will certainly be returning one day. Brilliant!

Much better than dominos, pizza hut and pappa John. Not as salty and better quality toppings. Had cooled a bit which meant it had gone a bit hard though. Super chicken strips and halloumi chips as well. Will be ordering again.

Went here on a Groupon deal was pleasantly surprised great little restaurant, after slight misunderstanding over wine turned out they had run out of house red, the food was excellent. Starters are to be recommended and pizza is some of the best I’ve had, struggled to eat it all.

We had a Greek salad with grilled chicken, Hawaii pizza and chicken strips in sesame seeds and every bit of the food was lovely!! Highly recommend the takeaway service and I look forward to eating in there soon. In the mean time I’m so glad to have found a healthy and yummy delivery option!

Came here Saturday 14th with hubby and son after spotting it on Just eat and seeing that you could eat in and that it had good reviews and was reasonably priced. We didnt have a groupon, didnt realise they had them. Anyway, great food really good portion sizes, we had halloumi chips and cheesy garlic bread for start, both big portions. 2 pizzas and a chicken risotto, all dishes had plenty of meat, the only thing I would say is that there was a bit too much cheese in the risotto. We will be back hopefully with a few groupons so we can go a few times and try all their different dishes. Drinks are reasonable as well. Even if there isnt a groupon this place is worth a visit. Where it is positioned hasn't been too popular for other venues so i really hope these guys can make a success of it as it's a great little place

I bought this inexpensive voucher on Groupon but had no previous knowledge of the restaurant or where it was. What a surprise. An open kitchen where you could see what was going on, fantastic lady server is who was so friendly and so helpful. I was amazed at the reasonable prices of both food and wine and the dishes we chose were fantastic and so tasty. This will be my first visit but not my last. With so many restaurants in Chelmsford to chose from, this came out very, very near the top. Will see you again soon. Thanks for a wonderful evening from both the service, food and atmosphere. We were taken by friends on a groupon voucher & were impressed by the warm welcome as soon as we stepped through the door. The aromas coming from the open kitchen were very enticing and the food when it arrived certainly didn’t disappoint, good portions & absolutely delicious! Prices were very reasonable even without a voucher, we wholeheartedly recommend this little gem and will definitely return when in the area.

Myself and my partner booked a table at this restaurant last night. The service is fantastic and the food and drinks menu give a lot of choice. We were given a little taster of a starter dish soon to be on the menu with compliments from the chef which was a nice extra touch. All of the food is cooked from fresh and there is an open kitchen in the restaurant. I had the seafood risotto which was delicious and my partner had the pork belly main dish which was the size of my forearm! The owner also gives good recommendations on the best wine to compliment the food. This is a new independent restaurant in which has only just opened a couple of months ago so I am guessing that not many people know about it yet. I would definitely recommend that you visit the restaurant! We will definitely be back soon!
