Amaretto Delicatessen in Norwich

Went in to get a coffee with my son. The person serving mistook my son for a girl. When that person asked me a question about my daughter, I answered the question but added that he was actually my son. The person serving took great offence and rudely blanked us both, and then started talking through us to another worker in the shop. I do not know if they just didn’t like being corrected or something wildly different, but they made my son feel very uncomfortable.

Always visit this delightful deli when in Norwich, everything I’ve purchased has been delicious, huge variety of food to suit all tastes, great selection of pastas, sauces, and perfect coffee as well, always very efficient and friendly service as well. 10/10

Best Pizza in Norwich hands down.

Great spot to sit and have a bite to eat for a very reasonable price. Amazing pizza (the tomato base is flavourful and well seasoned). Sausage rolls are spot on. Veg samosa best in the city.

Really like this little Italian cafe and the fact they do a student discount unlike most cafes is an extra and if you go get the pizza and warm it up (or if you like cold pizza it’s still really good) and it tastes like authentic Italian. Way cheaper than Starbucks or any other chain cafes too:)

Where to begin.. by far the best slice in Norwich on the go. I would give it four stars because it should be open 24/7.. prove me wrong with the best slice in the city. Please. So I cannot for the life of me give it less than 7/5.

I have been here a few times just for their pizza. It's always fresh and really good. I would also recommend their deli sandwiches.

The food here is great and good value. Best gluten free pizza ever but you have to be quick because it’s strictly a lunchtime affair. The staff are really lovely, please keep it up.

Had the veg samosa. Lovely as was the sausage roll and the tomato, pesto and mozzarella sandwich. Pity no pizza slices were on offer 😕

Usually a fairly decent place to get some lunch. Not today. Ordered Chicken Mayo baguette which was a disaster. The Baguette was so dry it could have been sat there for days. Maybe try covering your food. The amount of filling was miniscule. One little strip of filling. Hoping this was just a blip. Plenty of competition around.

Everyone at NUA knows this is THE lunch spot...everything they make is so fresh and delicious and the staff are just lovely. If you haven't had their brownie yet you are missing out - it's the best I've ever had

The pizza was lovely! I asked if it was safe for me because I've recently developed an egg intolerance, with a two hour bus trip home I didn't want to risk anything. The lady I asked was polite but the other server kicked off at her, and continued to complain after I'd paid. I felt guilty for asking, this puts me off visiting again.

I had a very bad espresso from here. I wanted to support a small local business however my drink tasted stale, it was watery, had no crema, and fundamentally wasn't an espresso. Maybe something wrong with the coffee machine. Added a star for friendly service!

Always love getting the pepperoni giant pizza slice. They also do the best lamb samosa! Great little area to sit outside the window. 100% wound recommend!

Ameretto Delicatessen has secured its spot as my favorite quick lunch spot in the city. The authenticity and warmth of the place are unparalleled. We enjoyed a delightful spread, including a flavorsome focaccia, delectable pesto pasta, and a heavenly cheesecake for dessert. Faultless in every aspect, I wholeheartedly recommend Ameretto Delicatessen to anyone strolling through the city.

Every time I pass by, I want to buy something to take home. I’ve tried sauce rolls, white chocolate pound cake, brownies, and yogurt. Every one of them tastes delicious, but the cake is just too sweet. The cakes here in the UK are so sweet.

Always delicious and exceptionally good quality food. I always grab some cakes for family, the carrot cake and chocolate cake are some of our favourites! I like to spend some money on the savoury food, like the pizza slices. And also the selection of meats that they have are to die for!

I have been frequenting Amaretto for the best part of 10 years and always been a big endorser of the place, recommending to both friends and family. Unfortunately I've found that since I've been put on a gluten free diet I'm made to feel like a big old chore from whom I assume is the owner. I've gone in for the gluten free pizza a few times now. Every time without fail when the friendly girl running the counter takes my order and relays it to her boss, he responds as if I've committed a hate crime against him and makes you feel like the biggest nuisance imaginable. It's honestly just a bit surreal in a customer service orientated business. Last order I went in for was denied for being "tight" on time, 2 hours prior to closing. Wasn't even acknowledged through the owner, despite being very visible to one another. It's bizarre. Man needs a holiday or to simply take stuff he doesn't fancy making off the menu.

Gave me food poisoning, pizzas left on bare table. Have felt sick all day - it tasted nice but definitely not worth the burn

The most delicious authentic, freshly cooked flavoursome pizza promptly and efficiently served up here exactly how they do in Italy by the slice. A really high class Italian deli with fantastic coffee & cakes….really very nice! We couldn’t carry lots of what we saw in the shop as we were only in Norwich for a day but the antipasto/pasta looked fabulous!

A lovely and very flavoursome slice of pizza, followed by easily the best slice of gluten free cake I’ve ever had (so light and tasty; better than most non-gluten free cakes). Pleasant and polite staff also.

Had a cold coffee there in the September sunshine today, reminiscing on Affogato earlier in the summer and grateful we have such authentic, delicious Italian food here in Norwich. A one off local business that's definitely worth frequenting.

Had tea and the most delightful saussage roll for a morning snack. The meat was well spiced, definitely a cut above the standard fare. Outdoor seating provided a wonderful opportunity for people watching.

I ordered a hamper for my son. It was delivered the next day. The hamper was beautifully presented and the food was of excellent quality. I had asked if it would be possible to add a message and it was done as requested. I had got the wrong address but the delivery man took great care to ensure it got to the right person. A really good service all round.

The fresh pizza is amazing, so are the vegetable samosas and lemon cannolis.

Absolutely spot on cafe/deli if you're looking for a quick bite in the city centre. Fresh and delicious pizza, excellent sandwiches and friendly staff. You'd genuinely have to try to not enjoy your visit and I make a point of dragging anyone and everyone there for a bite.

Great slice of fresh pizza and a lovely coffee. The deli is packed with cured meats, cheeses, oils, fresh veg and dried pastas. The cakes looked delicious. There are vegan and gluten free options available. Friendly staff.

Stumbled across this deli whilst looking for a quick breakfast stop. Really authentic, rustic with amazing food at ridiculously low prices. The quality and choice of food is without exception, first class. We sat outside watching the world go pass with a coffee and delicious croissant, plus a bag of amazing food for later. Staff very friendly and obliging. Well worth a visit.

Rude owner. Far too rude to be running a cafe. He treats his staff (Made up entirely of pretty early 20's girls) so poorly that they are constantly leaving. He speaks rudely to his customers if he is in a bad mood. He shouted at a member of public for something very menial. I used to buy food from this place, never again.

Brilliant atmosphere, great staff and the food is sensational. Love that you can see the pizza man making them! It’s my go to place in the city with an authentic Italian feel, especially with the addition of the outside tables and the fact that the owner and daughter interact with each other in Italian!

Found this Amazing Italian Delight when just strolling around Norwich. Upon 2nd visit, had to queue 10+ minutes for Tasty fresh Pizza and delicious Cherry and Almond Cake . WoW ..so pleased they are appreciated by locals. Wonderful to see Lemon cannolli Do visit, I'm longing to return.

Popped in to pick up sandwiches and cake for our train journey home, they were delicious! Will definitely be back.

Lovely traditional Italian cafe serving fresh food and fabulous coffee. The speciality cold brewed was especially good.

I absolutely love Amaretto's atmosphere. The coffee is delicious, as are the cakes and sandwiches. I work just around the corner and stop off there every morning for a coffee, and go there for most of my lunches. Fantastic place, with fantastic staff. The pasta which can be bought in the Delicatessen is also amaaaazing - some of the best I have had. The cafe offers a stamp card to get a free drink after collecting stamps too. It has outdoor seating as well!

The filled ciabatta sandwiches are amazing. Lots of mediterranean fillings to choose from. The coffee is good too. There are a couple of tables outside to watch the world go by.

Went in today before my child’s assembly at St Andrew’s Hall for a takeaway coffee. Shop only had 2 people in, and I was asked to put my mask on, when I told the waitress I was exempt - she insisted on proof of which I was flummoxed, then ordered to wait outside! Found my card and went back in, no apology just a rude waitress playing on power! Found the whole experience embarrassing and so did the other customer’s. COVID compliant does not mean embarrassing your customers and discriminating against them by asking them to wait outside! Will not be going to Ameretto again and will ensure family and friends aware of poor service and attitude towards medically vulnerable individuals.

OMG! This beautiful little place is 'Little Italy!. Fresh Prosciutto, Salamis, Olives, Fresh pasta, ...in fact EVERYTHING you could wish for outside of Italy! Albeit smaller choices because of the size of this delightful Delicatessen in Norwich. Not cheap but you pay for quality goods. A MUST VISIT if in Norwich!

Deliciously prepared lunches and pizzas. Also baguettes and tray bakes. We had home made macaroni and cheese and thin crust pastry pizza. Chocolate brownies were good with a crusty top but chewy and soft texture. Americano could be stronger. Overall great value. Service was most pleasant. Went there three times.

I have been buying lunch and coffee from Amaretto for a lot of years. In fact, since I was a student in 2009. Today, I bought a coffee, as I do most days, and my contactless card did not work. I know that they have a policy to only allow chip and pin for over £5 but the coffee was already made The lady asked me to try again, I did. It didn't work... There was clearly something wrong with their machine and I didn't know what to do. The owner sounded a bit annoyed and said 'Well you have to pay with your contactless, we don't allow under £5'. I tried multiple more times and the lovely lady said 'It's okay, you can just pay over the Chip and Pin this once' (I had already search my bag for cash). When the transaction had taken place the owner came over and was clearly annoyed with me and came very close to shouting at me. Telling me it had cost him 60p. I said 'Well the alternative was that you don't get anything because you card reader isn't working correctly'. It may have been my card but it works everywhere else. He said a few more rude things and mutter under his breath a few times how annoyed he was. This is honestly the last time that I buy anything from there. I regularly spend £8 in there for lunch and a coffee and often another coffee in the day. I even use their loyalty cards. I guess that's £20 per week (average) that I will spend somewhere else.

Excellent service and delightful products, including gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options across a broad range of options. Very reasonable prices. Will definitely be back! You wont regret a visit. Only a small place so you might have to queue but it's worth it.

Moved office recently so this place is on my way in. Often enjoy coffee, sausage roll, bagget, hot lunch, whatever, (not all at once!) he has a good range and its always enjoyable. Staff always happy.

Lunchtime pizza slice. I had the margarita, my wife tried the mushroom. Bland, tasteless, no seasoning. A bit more effort next time would be appreciated. More cheese, tomato base etc.

Great shop in the city center close to the river. You can find the best delicacies: cheese (pecorino, gorgonzola, burrata, ...), parma ham, mortadella, salami (I love the fresh cut of the cured meat), pesto, olives, pizza, pasta, sauces, olive oil, grissini and sweet food like gianduiotti, cantucci, amaretti and much more. Not only the best Italian food but English and Spanish delicacies too. Thanks Fabrizio, because every time I can find not only a little bit of Italy, but food with a very high quality too. Perfect for a lunch and gourmet shopping.

This is completely outrageous. They have a minimum of £5 shoppings if you don't have contactless. Seriously! Never again. I understand to have this if you don't have that many card transactions to cover the costs for the card machine. But when everyone pays with card. Outageous. And I don't see any sign informing customers about this. And if is a tiny one hidden in one corner... doesn't count. Customers should be informed upfront. Not after they ordered. When I come into the shop my first thought is definitely not if you try to scam me or not.

Food is great at a reasonable price. Only negatives are when busy the shop is chaotic and staff could smile a bit more but if I were that busy I'd be stressed as well. Please serve pizza earlier so I can beat the lunchtime rush. Always a great place to grab a slice with friends

Lovely little place with friendly staff. They kindly made my son a gluten free pizza. My daughter and I both had a pizza slice which was huge and well priced. My husband had the moussaka which was also amazing. Loads of gorgeous deli food for sale too. And the best gluten free chocolate brownie I’ve ever had.

I often call in here for lunch. They have a wide variety of food including freshly cooked pizza by the slice and three "dishes of the day" for takeaway plus a soup. Always freshly cooked, always interesting, always yummy!

Stopped into Amaretto, a place I’ve been passing for years and never stepped foot in prior. Their window displays always look so delicious and inviting. It was mid afternoon and I was the only patron. I had my little one in the pram and must say getting in was a bit tricky.Very quick and friendly service grabbing a nice large slice of the Chili Con Carne pizza and a staff member came up to open the door and ease my departure with the pram.Both myself and the little one approved of the pizza which was very indicative of the style. Would compare it to the type of pizza one might get from Brick or Donnellis. Just a quick, friendly stop with a great result. Might stop in again a bit sooner the next time.

We have previously enjoyed coffee here and decided to have a heated cheese and ham toastie and a flapjack. The toastie was OK, the flapjack was one of the worst I have ever tasted, with encrusted sugar in the base. I would look very carefully at anything I bought there again.
