Amara Turkish BBQ Restaurant in Wirral

Food leaked and cold, restaurant offered to collect our food, reheat and redeliver. This is a huge NO NO... I have never received food in worse condition than this. Just eat were helpful! Amara is definatly not recommended...

We ordered food at 5.40pm and estimated delivery was 6.40pm. After endless phone calls the food turned up at 8.10pm and was cold, dry and burnt. After calling the restaurant to speak to a manager we were met with hostility. There only focus was that we didn’t have the correct change. No apology at all and 0 customer service.

We have been here 4 times. Amazing tasty food at very reasonable prices. Great service, lovely people. Nice little no frills restaurant.

We visited this place tonight as it was my son’s 16th birthday, the food was excellent and the service was fine

First meal out since lock down has been lifted . Lovely meal as alway all our party of 7 enjoyed their meals. Restaurant was busy, more than normal , which was good to see. Polite friendly staff as always. We will be back I’m sure.

I heard the restaurant had been recently taken over by new owners, so thought I'd give it a try. WOW so glad I did. Got a take out/collection Chicken kebab for one. It was amazing. Gave me free Turkish bread which was so fresh.Looking forward to going again and actually sitting in the restaurant. Staff seemed really nice. Give it try you won't be disappointed.

Ordered a meal for my husband and I, was advised by telephone that one item was not available and offered a good alternative.The meal arrived on time, was excellent, hot, and delivered by a smiley young lady. The portions are huge, the quality first class, and we enjoyed our meal very much. Many thanks, will certainly use this restaurant again. Highly recommended.

Ok people, come come, gather round sorry love, not you, no vegetarians on this one I’ve just been to Amara for a takeaway as they are not open to eat in at the moment for obvious reasons. What can I say?? We had the Amara Special and it was a mega meat feast! Beautifully cooked and the taste was just divine having been expertly cooked over the charcoal grill. The special comes with the mix of lamb kebab, chicken kebab, Adana kebab, lamb chop, chicken wings, rice and salad and the bread is to die for! This is top class restaurant food! This is a family run restaurant and they are a lovely family who deserve our support during these difficult times.

We regularly eat in Amara, it’s our favourite restaurant, they never fail to please us, the food is always really nice, the staff are always lovely and pleasant, however due to current restrictions with covid-19 we got a takeaway, and wowwww it was just as nice as the restaurant, the food was delivered hot and ready to eat, tasting just as amazing as ever, we really enjoyed it! Thank you so much Amara!

First visit to Amara. Staff attentive and friendly. No fault there. However restaurant very cold so uncomfortable. Starters tasty but mains were just warm and my lamb dish was poor quality, very fatty and tough. Would not visit again. But please note this was not due to staff who were splendid, just down to food quality and surroundings.

Had a meal here last night. All the food was very.good. Tasty . The Service was good also. Friendly staff. Extremely good value for money . £30 ahead for hot starter , bread which is so delicious , main meal and drinks . Draft Turkish larger which is good to have in a restaurant instead of been offered bottles and cans. Definitely would return.

The food and experience at Amara was great. We all left with a great experience and full stomachs. Would definitely recommend sharing a platter of mezzes, the bread is to superb.

Went for a birthday meal, very relaxed, staff were extremely helpful and food was lush. Be careful what you order, can be easy to go overboard, but all was lovely

I go there once to twice a month as I spend a night in Wirral a week for business. The food is always gorgeous. If I am not hungry, I go for 4 hot mezze. If hungry, mezze and main course. I tried many other restaurants in the area, it is simply the best. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed

Went here recently for my wedding anniversary and it was a great night. There were lots of people there so a lovely atmosphere.We shared 4 hot mezzes then I had a Turkish stew and my husband had mince with aubergine. All the dishes were gorgeous and very generous helpings.We had 2 drinks each and were suprised how reasonably priced it all was.We will definitely be back soon

Not been to this restaurant for a long time . The restaurant was very quiet in fact only one other couple so it was lacking a little atmosphere . But the service was good and food was to die for . We Had mixed hot mezze to start all 4 of our party loved every one. The bread served is beautiful so tasty. The main meal mixed meat selection beautifully cooked and plenty of it. Good value starters main and wine under £30 a head . Highly Recommend we will be back.

The food here is excellent at a very reasonable price, the staff are friendly and the service is good. Will be back and would definitely recommend .

The Amara Turkish BBQ is a great local restaurant.

Arrived at the restaurant at 6.45pm - left at 9pm and managed to get one course served in that time. A real shame- when it arrived the food was good but service (or lack of it) was terrible. We ordered a basic hummus as a starter to share - no sign of it after 45 minutes (and chasing along) and then told it would arrive with the main course! At 8.05pm we decided to give them until 8.15pm or we were going to leave - another complaint from us and food arrived at 8.10pm (with the hummus!). How it can take over 90 mins to serve hummus is beyond me! We were offered a free drink to compensate for the delay and a discount off the bill (which in outcome was 10%). My real gripe was the absence of any explanation for the delays; no apologies without prompting and no check back during the meal. If you’re going here, don’t expect to be in and out quickly - I forgot to say that in all the time we were there the restaurant only had 4 tables occupied with 12 covers!

Recently I have eaten in several Turkish restaurants and enjoyed the food, but tonight my meal at Amara was superb, by far and away the nicest I have had. A lovely starter of roasted red peppers with feta cheese and fresh herbs was followed by an absolutely delicious main of beautifully tender pieces of char-grilled lamb on a bed of smoked aubergine and garlic flavoured yoghurt, served with rice and a salad. I must also mention the fantastic home baked bread with sesame seeds - the nicest bread I have eaten in ages. I enjoyed a fascinating chat with Dad (the grill chef and bread maker) and his lovely daughter who was waitressing (sorry, I didn’t get their names) during which I learnt a lot about Turkey’s troubles and those of their own Kurdish people. I enjoyed the house red wine - very gluggable and Turkish to boot. The cost was very reasonable and I strongly urge discerning eaters to head to Amara to enjoy this fresh cuisine.

Lovely family run restaurant. Food is cooked on a bbq in the restaurant tasted delious. Very reasonably priced. Recommend the platter to share get to have a go of everything. The waitress was lovely and the chef was great with my little boy

Been here before several times and this was not the best. Service poor, took 45 mins for a cold starter. Starter was ok but mains were poor, main meal was meant to be on a bed of smoke aubergine but was just on a cold sauce that we also had with starter. Had better take always, Won’t be returning.

We regularly order from this Turkish takeaway in Wallasey Village. The kebabs are delicious and the bread tastes homemade. The food is always of a high standard and usually arrives piping hot. Totally recommend this place to others.

Friendly, local restaurant that offers simple but delicious Turkish food in an unpretentious environment. Based around the charcoal bbq area Amara serves fresh, tasty and authentic food in a friendly setting.

Easily the easiest 5 stars that I have ever given. The staff were warm and welcoming and the food was simply out of this world. You might read the menu and think that it is going to be simple and a bit plain, but I can tell you now, worry not!

There is nothing pretentious about this restaurant but it feels authentic from the moment you see the charcoal grill busy as you walk in through the door. The welcome is friendly, the service is good if not brisk, The menu is interesting and well-explained. There is an adequate selection of drinks.

Ordered good from here as heard very positive stories. Was advised it would be 45 mins. Over an hour and a half later I still hadn't received the food. I had rang up and was told 10 minutes, it didn't arrive in 10 minutes. I rang up and explained how long it had been and was just told they had been very busy. No discount offered and not even a call back to just let me know that there was a delay.

Firstly, the food here is gorgeous.

Really nice place to spend some time. The food is top class. Freshly made and served hot straight off the coals with home made sauces, served with a smile from the family owners. 10 out of 10 if you like food you just can't make at home or anywhere else come to that.

If you like Turkish food this is the place. Quality food at a fair price, good size portions. Nice eating area overlooking the charcoal grill.

I can't rate this resturant any higher as very frequent visitors to Turkey we feel this is better than some of the meals when have there....loverly staff always entertain our children with pencils and paper....i would say this is the best Turkish resturant in our area ...a must go but I would book in as walking in on Friday and Saturday can sometimes lead to disappointment....A******** establishment thank you and see you soon xxx

Another delicious feast, we had stuffed vine leaves, cucumber dip, and king prawn starters followed by salmon, chicken kebabs and lamb chops with tahini dip, cooked to perfection, very friendly staff, would definitely recommend.

A wonderful impromptu end of the week meal. Finally managed to not order the gorgeous lamb and wasn't disappointed by the chicken thighs. Never tasted such succulent and tasty BBQd chicken. My husband had the lamb chops BBQd crispy but still so moist.

Tasty food at good prices, my only suggestion would be that they advertise their gluten free knowledge a little better.I am coeliac and it was only after a few questions that I felt comfortable to order and eat, they actually had a lot of knowledge and it would be great if they could show this through their menu.Their grill is amazing, I had fresh sea bass, delicious it wasn't filleted properly but very tasty non the less.Husband had a mixed grill which looked amazing; we will definitely be returning :)

We visited this restaurant for the first time tonight. We both enjoyed our food although my main course was not quite what I was expecting based on the description in the menu. Chips were also nothing special. Staff were friendly but the service was a little slow. Also, and causing quite a detriment to the dining experience was the fact that the central heating wasn't working and it is one degree Celsius tonight. They did have some electric heaters but they didn't really cut through the chill. The toilets were no less than arctic and I couldn't get hot water to wash my hands. Hope they can sort this out soon.

Meal was spot on as usual Service is excellent can not fault it and grate value for money . Phone up last minute for a table they was very busy but they sorted us out

Visited with friends ,service can't be faulted ,wine vey good and reasonably priced no rush very relaxed atmosphere ,except for over loud music makes talking difficult but it si traditional music so not an issue.this resturant only falls down on the price of meals as against quality and portion size. Started with lovely warm bread and dips we then had 2 different barbecue meals and 2 other dishes in sauces which definitely didn't correspond to the menu description and at 14.95 a head served with just boiled rice was appalling value would have expected something better for a local village resturant for that price but it was tasty.The lamb kebab was ok but the marinated chicken one was a lot to be desired ,the chicken had been soaked in salted water before being barbecued and you could taste it. A pleasant evinced but for the size of the bill over 80 pounds we won't be going again ,disappointing as we had hoped to return .

Only decided at the last minute on a table for 2 at the Amara . Fully obliging , found a table and two chairs and made seating for us . Food was excellent and service very good .

This was our second visit as a couple & the standard was as it had been before. The restaurant is not very attractive inside & much of the furniture is patched up but the staff are courteous & knowledgable - in our view that counts for a lot.We had mixed starters which were all excellent as were the main courses - the smaller mixed meat special is very good. We drank the more than acceptable Turkish wine & had a very pleasant evening. Strongly recommend having 3 or 4 Starters to share as they were all excellent so go for the food & you will not be disappointed.

Visited last nite Thursday 18th August, we went early about 5.30 was worried looking at other reviews about the service being slow. The restaurant was quiet, so no problem getting a table. We ordered a beer each and got a starter of hummus and bread and my partner had the turkish sausage, for the main meal my partner had the Amara special which consisted of a selection of chargrill meats and a lamb chop with rice and salad. For my meal was chicken kebab with rice and salad we got a side order of chips being greedy, the meals nicely cooked and well presented as shown on the photos of the other reviews. Did,nt have to wait long probably cos they were not busy. Service was ok i have felt more welcome at other Greek/Turkish restaurants. Will visit again in the near future maybe special occasion birthdays.

I have been to Amara restaurant a few times as my friend lives very close and she dines there a lot. We had to wait a very long time to be served. I ordered chops as I have eaten them there in the past and they are nice. My partner ordered lamb kebab which he enjoyed. My poor friend made the mistake of ordering Sea Bass. She had asked when ordering, to make sure it's head and tail were cut off and that the bones were removed (filleted) . Her meal arrived with the Head, tail and bones still attached. She tried to eat it but was struggling. We waited a long time before we could catch a member of staff's attention. Nobody throughout the entire time we were there came over to ask if our meals were ok. We explained that she had not got the fish the way she asked for it to be served.. The waiter took it back. It returned with it's tail still attached and full of bones still! It hadn't been filleted. My friend couldn't eat it, as after she tried she had bones stuck in her teeth. We tried to find a member of staff but couldn't see one for ages. By this time the restaurant was almost empty. When it was time to pay the bill, again a long time waiting to see a member of staff, we explained that she was unable to eat the Sea Bass as there were too many bones. The staff member was the manager. She asked why we didn't take it back when first served, we explained that we had and it had again returned still with bones and tail! I asked if she could take off the price of her meal. She said, that is the way we serve the sea bass and refused. I asked why the waiter didn't explain that, when she had ordered. It became a real frustrated discussion, as she was adamant to make her pay for something she didn't order and couldn't eat. I asked what her name was and she refused to give it to me. Saying "why do you want my name" I asked a few few times for her name and she kept refusing to give it. I explained that as she was the manager she had to take responsibility and you always start with a name.. Her attitude was so bad and unpleasant it spoilt our night. Either the chefs can't understand English or they just have a natural insensitive attitude to the needs of their customers. I can only sum our experience up as very disappointing, annoying, frustrating and entirely unnecessary.She eventually decided to take 5%off the bill which was £3:65. Which we all found Insulting .

It's always a winner, the staff are friendly and professional. The food is delicious and the choice is good. I've never tried dessert as I'm usually too full but have never really been inspired by the dessert choice, however that's a minor as its great to see that they are concentrating on the main courses. Credit where it's due, this family cares and the number of returning customers proves this.

This was our second visit to Amara Turkish BBQ restaurant. The first was to celebrate a birthday and there were 8 of us. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious. So when we wanted somewhere local to eat for a family meal for 4 we had no hesitation. I can't remember the name of any of the dishes but all our plates were empty. I can highly recommend the fish and the mixed kebabs though. The restaurant always seems to be busy too which I think is always a good sign. We started with some hummus, bread and olives, then main course, dessert and a couple of drinks for about £25/person. Given how good the food is I'd say that's a reasonable price to pay. If I had to point out anything that could be improved it would have to be the choice of desserts which is a little uninspiring, but they are still nice. The specials don't feel very special when you see them written on the specials board 2 months apart. Maybe we just hit upon a coincidence though.

Me and my family have been back and again and again for meals in amara for family celebrations such as mothers day and birthdays. Fantastic flavoursome food and lovely relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere.

It was a birthday party of 30 but they handled it well. Food was tasty and hot. Although I paid for the belly dancer, she spent more time on other tables than with my partyI would highly recommend this restaurant. I enjoyed the food so much I was back again 4 days later for more

Such a lovely place to eat, everything was layed out so nicely and I really felt thought and effort had been put in to the food. As you can see from the pictures, the dishes are really unique and not something you would find in the average restaurant in England. I really enjoyed the Karniyarak :) will definitely be visiting again in the near future ☺

Myself and two of my friends shared 6 different types of mezes including the rolo palican, ezme and karides, every single one of them were absolutely delicious. For mains I ordered the tavuk beyti which arrived after a short wait piping hot and was extremely nice. The only downside would be not having enough space to finish off the beyti properly, however, that didn't stop us from ordering a golden syrup sponge cake to share which was absolutely a marvellous way to end a wonderful meal. 100% recommend to anyone looking for authentic Turkish food!

This was definitely the best Turkish restaurant I've been at! The place itself was fantastic: everything was intimate and familiar and there was typical Turkish music in the background contributing to create a soft and relaxed atmosphere. The food was incredibly high quality: I had an Iskender and it’s highly recommended! If you have the chance, you definitely can’t miss it!

Very good,well cooked food I had the sea bass.Barbecued to perfection,only problem nearest table to entrance good size but sticky we've used it before it was the same.

Yet again a fantastic meal I don't know about shrinking potions my fish was like moby dock. My wife had a chicken skewer 10 large chunks so are dogs did well.But the plate was which seems to be the norm everywere cold.Keep up the good work

First visit to this restaurant, good selection of dishes at a reasonable price. We chose from the 2 courses for £12.95 offer and I really enjoyed my meal.

Me and my boyfriend come here regularly and we always love it! The service is good and the prices very reasonably considering the portion sizes and the freshness and quality of food. I also like that the menu is always a little bit different so I can try something new every time! I recommend this hidden gem to everyone and it's really nice to see a small business doing well.

Just returned from a hen night meal. 20 people. The food was delicious and very hot, waited about 20/25 mins which is no problem when it's getting cooked fresh. Desserts were also beautiful. Had no problems and enjoyed it. Would recommend.

We have been here on a number of occasions but were a little disappointed this time. Apart from the normal very long wait to be served, even on a Monday evening, the wine we chose was the only bottle of that type available. We ordered the mezze starter which allows you to choose 4 hot starters off the menu. Previously this has come as 4 portions, this time it was one plate with 3 of each of the starters on it. Would there have been 4 of each if there had been 4 of us? The mains, although up to their usual standard had shrunk by at least a third from the amount you used to get. There was a week night special on and I feel that, although we ordered off the full menu and paid that price, we were given the smaller portions that a limited menu normally allows. I appreciate that the portions here are sometimes larger than you require but am not happy paying the same price for much smaller portions. Hopefully this was just a blip and normal service will be resumed!

Nice night here , service was good ,beer was nice and chilled ad was the wine, staff were nice and friendly, food was very tasty, lamb was very very nice, will be back for sure

The food was nice enough when it finally arrived after a 45 minute wait! The first four meals came out at the same time, the fifth meal 5 minutes after that and then we ended up having to ask for the sixth meal as it still hadn't arrived after another 5 mins! Poor service continued with my husband having to go to the till to ask for more drinks as no one came to check on us at all. To top things off, on checking the bill, I found out we had been slightly overcharged. I have kept the bill as proof. I would have only given this two stars but everyone seemed to enjoy the food. For the prices this restaurant charge, the service should be a lot better!

This is third time I have been to amara and it doesn't change. Excellent food, so tasty just fantastic! I went with a friend, we both had a starter, a main and 2 drink and the bill was £50. Will definitely be back again!

Firstly, this is not my taste of food but it was my partners birthday meal and he loves kebabs. The starter mezze was delicious although only one sauce and the waiter took away our left over bread that we wanted to use with main. Main meal was packed with beautiful lamb but caped in tomato and I got very bored with the same taste very quickly. They cook the meat in front of you which is lovely and this is possibly one reason service is slow. However finished plates stayed on put table for nearly half an hour and waited about the same for our bill. Friendly staff but not attentive at all. I begrudge shorebirds this kind of money on kebabs but the food was good.

Would love to have done a proper review but ...Booked via the online reservation form on their website on the Thursday; rang on the day as not had a confirmation and told they were fully booked and not received the booking request. So my advice? Ring if you want to book a table !

After calling twice to book a table they couldn't manage to prepare it in time.Waiting half an hour for our first drink and 1: 40 ? Mins for our food which was cold when it's arrived . Serving the food for 10 people for 20 mins . ..... shall I carry on ? No toilet paper in toilets....... even after asking for it..... and bad stomach day after..... never ever again

We ate here on Saturday the 5th of September and must say the food was great. I would recommend the food cooked over the charcoal it's fantastic. Great value and staff were more than accommodating.

Stopped by the other night (mid week) ordered the platter for two with Mezze starter plenty of food for two, good value house wine and very friendly waitress. Will return.

Went for birthday meal. Can't wait to return staff very pleasant and helpful but food was out of this world really hot and tasty reasonably priced beware the portions are big though we ordered starter and mains all courses superb very enjoyable evening good atmosphere definitely recommend

This is a very nice restaurant. We order a hot meze (any 4 items from starters section) which was lovely. The spicey sausage, kebabs and calamari were very good. The only disappointment being the king prawns, which were bland. The main courses were also very good. My husband had the mixed grill which was a good size. My meal consisted of char grilled lamb in a tomato sauce on a yoghurt base which, again was a good size. All the meat was good quality and tasty. The house wine (red) at £12 a bottle was good value and highly recommended.

Staff are good not a great atmosphere had to send food back because it was cold didnt expect that with barbequed food

Booked here for my dads birthday 7 of us, it was empty on arrival, waiter showed us to are table and he was very friendly took are order and read it back to us, when the drinks came they was wrong not really a problem as he corrected it right away, starters came they was wrong but he corrected that to, with a apology, still not a problem as we wasn't in a rush, the starters was beautiful to, we had tahini sauce with hot bread, calamari, soup of the day and Turkish meatballs. So the mains came which was wrong to also items missing they corrected the wrong meal we had Turkish casserole, chicken skewers lamb skewers the meals was really tasty, so above all the mistakes I'd still recommend and would go back as the staff was very helpful and food was fantastic

We both like Turkish food and haven't tried this one before so we needed to give it a go.We both had the garlic king prawns as a starter. Nice prawns in a creamy sauce. served with very good Turkish bread. A perfectly acceptable starter, but I found the sauce bland. Couldn't really detect the garlic at all.I had the lamb chops for my main course.Served with rice and salad this was a good meal. Generous portion and tasty, good quality lamb.My wife had the chicken guvec for her main. The chicken was nicely seasoned.Service was pleasant and efficient.We didn't have room to try the desserts. Overall a decent although not exceptional meal and the price including a bottle of house wine and a small sparkling water was £49. 65. Reasonable.

I've been here 5-6 times now and every time I have been its been fantastic. Yes it can be a bit slow like others have said but it's always busy there but we don't mind waiting because of the food.I've been here as a couple and also in a large group as well, I've found if you go in early on or just after they have opened you get served faster.I love anything that's done over coals so I will be back again soon.

We have eaten here a couple of times and even though we were in there for 18:30 we didn't get out until just before 9, for two courses that is a touch too long

Another two delicious meals in the space of a week, I've never had a bad one here, the food is always fresh and made to order on the range at front of house, the staff are very friendly and attentive, my husband always has the Turkish sausage followed by the enormous plate of lamb chops and finished off by the mixed ice cream with fresh berries, for me it's a toss up between the sea bass or the beautifully marinated chicken. Definitely one to recommend.

Been here twice with friends. BotH times the food was very good but the night was made by the excellent service and atmosphere. Food is based on mezzo platters, homemade bread and well marinated meats cooked on the open coal grill. Waiting staff service is great. Good range of beers and wine available. Last time we went we were entertained by a Turkish belly dancer who added to the lightness of the atmosphere. We will definitely go back.

Five adults and two children went for dinner at the Amara. The restaurant is clean with a comfortable atmosphere. The menu is fairly extensive with authentic Turkish dishes on it. We had a good and varied mixture of food from it and, I have to say, it was all excellent. I decided to have grilled lamb chop and when it arrived was amazed to see THREE large and perfectly cooked ones on my plate. Everyone was highly impressed with what they received, including the children, who were given exactly the dishes they requested, despite the fact that they were not on the menu. In keeping with the good food, there is also a selection of Turkish wines on the list and these too are very palatable.

We have been quite a few times now since the new year and each time the food and service have been fantastic. We have been with a big group and just the two of us The staff make you feel very welcome (even when we book a late table) and they are great at going through the menu with you. The food is faultless and not over fancy. The starters are a good size, (feta and Aubergine rolls, calamari, prawns and red peppers all lovely....but be careful because they give you complementary bread, which is so nice and tasty but it fills you up! Mains are huge! I've not finished one yet (they wrap it up so you can take it home though) I've tried different lamb dishes each time we've been, and they have all been delicious. If you like lamb you will love this place! I can't remember how to spell the traditional Turkish desert..... Bakalav????? Anyway.... Try it! The pastry is lovely and it's very sweet. Looking forward to our next visit (The family who like the Ankara music)

Long wait for not a very busy night... 2 hours stay! Food was meh... I could have made my dish myself at home! Waiter kept saying the opposite meat of what we'd ordered... And I'm pretty mine went back in to only be lukewarm when it arrived back as he kept saying it was chicken, when I had ordered lamb.

The food at this place was phenomenal. We've been a few times now and never been let down. I had the Sea Bass and my girlfriend had a lamb dish. The best compliment I can give is that it tastes as good as it smells. I'd definitely recommend to anybody. Really friendly staff as well.
