Amalia Italian Restaurant in Liverpool

This review should be zero out of 5, this is the worst restaurant we have ever visited. Warmed up frozen bought in food, absolutely nothing authentic Italian whatsoever.

Slow service. Food was poor. Cold chicken added to pasta that seemed like it had come out of a packet. Very cold in the restaurant. Nothing cosy or honestly about the experience.

Very friendly staff attentive and welcoming food was fabulous especially the sea bass highly recommended Our waitress was so nice would definitely go back

This restaurant has tasty food a good atmosphere but the service is a mess and the restaurant really misses the basics when it comes to serving in a restaurant. It’s as if staff receive no basic training. Really simple things are missed such as no small plates for starters without requesting. After starters, remove plates and provide fresh cutlery. But no we had main courses arriving with starters plates still all over the table and no new knife and forks. We had no salt & pepper on the table and did not get offered Parmesan with our pasta which is just a complete BASIC in an Italian restaurant. We had 5 people waiting on our table, why? There was no consistency at all no rapport built with staff it was a different person every time. In the end we were a bit worried to ask for things so just left it. The restaurant clearly gets very busy on football match days so it’s like they’re not too bothered about providing a proper service. I was so disappointed after not being here for years. It is uts me off returning sadly because I enjoyed the food. Get the basics right and this place would be brilliant.

We had a booking for 7pm & arrived at 7.12 due to train delays. The lady said that because we were late she gave our table away rather than honouring the 15 minute grace period as stated on the website they offer. We were then made to wait 50 minutes for a table with no communication of when we would be sat down. When we were finally sat down the waitress did not know what prosecco was and brought still wine, and one of the mains came 20 minutes after the rest. Wont be returning

Always a pleasure to dine here, service is always excellent and the staff always seem so happy to help. Food is beautiful and authentic, good value for money. Been coming here for years and it’s always consistent in flavour, quality and atmosphere🙏

My family and I visited for my 30th birthday meal last night. Drinks and food order was taken. Starters came in an ok time manner. However we waited an hour after our starters for the main to arrive! When the lady delivered our mains, she lent over the table to pass over some plates, which we thought was rude! Normally at an Italian restaurant you’re offered pepper and Parmesan etc, we were not offered as she walked away after dishing out our mains! I had to try and get her attention 4 times, she was attentive to the table next to us and was able to supply them with pepper and Parmesan, which we thought was strange!! The customer service was AWFUL! The food is also bland and tasteless. I ordered a arabbiata, which was not spicy!! The sauce was bland. The carbonara sauce is the same sauce which the shrimp and linguine pasta came with! We also ordered the chicken ceaser salad, which the chicken was dry and rubbery. We wanted to look at the desert menu however after waiting an hour for our mains for it to be very bland tasting we were put off. As soon as we asked for the bill, it arrived a minute later, shame our main meals didn’t arrive in a timely manner! Would NOT recommend this restaurant! I have no clue how it has so many rewards and some good reviews!! Also want to add the arabbiata dish was full of oil!

Called into the cafe..not the resturant..perfect italian coffee , foccacia and canolis also on offer...bit of a little gem

Food is great, quite authentic. Normally busy, so make a reservation if you can Might take some time to get the bill, but that’s normal, given how busy it is normally

Best pizza ever! You can write many words, many sentences but it's not necessary, because it's the best pizza without any doubt. We were there in the afternoon and the restaurant was full of happy people. We have to go back and try other foods.

We found this last minute after not booking anywhere in advance. And what a lovely place to eat. There was a good atmosphere as we walked in. We were served quickly and opted for garlic bread with tomato to start with a friend having the prawns. Both were delicious. We had a variety of mains. Everyone enjoyed the plentiful portions with only the mushrooms letting the side down. These seemed quite hard and leathery in the risotto. Other than that, all food was nice and so reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.

This large Italian restaurant was recommended to me – not far from my hotel so I thought I’d give it a go. It’s down a little side street off of Duke Street and has an affiliated artisan deli next door. Ate quite late so it wasn’t that busy – inside is bright and, on this occasion, fully decorated for Halloween – big spider etc. I don’t really do Halloween. Don’t understand it. The imagery is weird – spiders, cobwebs, pumpkins etc. But I don’t mind others doing it, so that was fine. Anyhow, the service was quick and efficient and there was a decent buzz in the room - various tables, families etc. The beer was a Scavelli draught – this was a decent lager. Not had it before. It was the sort of beer you want in an Italian restaurant. There was also Peroni in bottles. I like Peroni but I wanted a change. Change is important sometimes. The food menu itself is quite large, with the full plethora of things you’d’ expect – pizza, pasta etc. Also saw there was a burger. I ordered Mozzarella in Carrotza to start – massive slab of cheese in breadcrumbs with a tomato sauce – and the chicken and mushroom calzone for main. Tasty food – the calzone was fat and stuffed full of filling, small bowl of tomato sauce on the side, sort of like tomato soup, worked well. They do some sort of calzone challenge – I can’t imagine how large that must be, since my calzone was also on the large side. I don’t like my food to be a challenge though, so I won’t have that. I was full, but I had pudding anyway because they had pistachio tiramisu – this was lovely, with a decent whip of cream on top, but I should know better by now. Will I ever learn. Table to the right was having some sort of lively debate about politics – good for them. Real debate is rare these days. I would eat here again, I think. I enjoyed my meal but would probably moderate my intake and not have both a starter and a pudding. Big portions.

when for a pre theatre meal they offer a late lunch deal 12-5 good choice of items with an included drink we both opted for the pizza's which arrived promptly nicely presented and very tasty highly recommended

I had the meatball calsoni it was one of the best Italian dishes I have ever had loaded whith cheese and meet and when you ask for some parnesan they give you a massive bowl full not the little ones that you get in some Italians highly recommend

The food is fantastic! Came to Liverpool last weekend and booked a table and it was so good. When I arrived you could see how good it is as so many people eating and that was at 6.30pm on a Friday. This really is the place to go to for fantastic food. 10 stars from me! Amazing and thank you to the Chef

I love Amalia, everyone who works there are always really friendly and the pizzas are great. Even across the square at Amalia Cicchetti the food is fantastic with a great selection of sandwiches etc and the espresso is the best in Liverpool

Been here several times always our go to Italian restaurant but this year food was tasteless had spicy meatballs for starters that were bland at best had carbonari as main which was again tasteless and Luke warm unfortunately will need to find somewhere new to eat on our next visit to liverpool.

Had quite a large booking here over the weekend and the staff were absolutely amazing in accommodating us all with with a very spacious table, even when I had to make some same day ammendments to it! Restaurant itself was super busy, but the staff were genuinely on their A-game, noticing when we needed refills and checking in on the food. Food itself was great - I had the Calabrese Pizza and the peppers on it were divine, though I would've loved a little more sauce. I have to give a special mention to the woman working front-of-house who was also the person who booked us in. Thank you for your patience with my last minute changes and know you did a stellar job. Will keep the place in mind for some (hopefully) smaller bookings!

Fantastic service!!! Amazing food. Staff are very welcoming and kind. While visiting we had some food which was delightful. Coffees was 10/10, Food 10/10 and the service was outstanding. Thank to the staff of . Amalie Liverpool. I would highly recommend going here

Had the chicken Cesar salad, it was okay, however the chicken was very overcooked, chewy and I would not recommend, the service however was amazing, very attentive

Pizza a bit thin so thin I couldn't pick it up. Bit expensive. However staff lovely. Wouldn't return unfortunately as needs a bit of a clean up

My husband, son and myself attended this restaurant for the first time on Friday 30 August and we will definitely be back. The food was delicious with decent portion sizes and the atmosphere was lovely. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We look forward to our next visit.

Visited this restaurant back in June, during our visit to Liverpool for the Taylor Swift concert, our Server was lovely and so friendly, she gave us advice for our visit and also gave us some complimentary drinks. The food was delicious and authentic Italian! Will definitely return next time we are in Liverpool!

Forgot to take pictures of the food because it was so phenomenal! Highly highly recommend the lasagne, tagliatelle with prawns, and the calamari. Everything about the experience was top tier, service and management went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and at home. The portions were perfect and reasonably priced. Thank you to Fran, the kitchen staff, and the bartender for everything tonight, truly a wonderful experience! Can’t wait to stop by again.

Fast service and delicious food! You get great value for money on the portions, and we loved the option of gluten-free pasta. We booked in advance to guarantee a table, which was probably a good move. However, I don't think that this is strictly necessary, as you would only really need to wait a few minutes.

Authentic and very delicious Italian food. Had to wait for 20mins to get a table given it was busy throughout as there were always people waiting for a table. Recommend you to reserve beforehand to avoid the wait. Staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful. All and all it was a very good experience.

Absolutely sumptuous! Cannot fault anything here. The food was amazing and the staff were incredibly attentive. They even modified a few dishes towards personal preferences. Looking forward to going again soon

Favourite restaurant to come to every time I'm in Liverpool. Food is nice, price is reasonable (even more reasonable if you make use of the gift vouchers on the website) and the atmosphere is nice. Service can be slow when busy but it usually doesn't impact enjoyment too much. Avoid coming on Saturday nights as its busier and slower than ever. Plus the quality of food and service has been known to slip at these busy times. I still reccomend it to all I know who come to Liverpool

The staff in this café/deli are so friendly and helpful. My husband and I visited there whilst visiting the city for the week. We had heard that their croissants were good. So we tried them and we weren't disappointed. They were sublime. Their staff were so nice we decided to go back for lunch and had Panini (beef and cheese and tomato for me and Spanish omelette for my husband). They also let us sample one their Cicchetti. It was excellent. I would definitely try them on our next visit as they have quite a selection. Their coffee was also very good and worth the visit rather than going to a high street coffee shop. The also sell a range of Italian food and drink so we bought some Amaretti biscuits for a very reasonable price too. Do yourself a favour and visit this little gem.

A real gem of a restaurant. My husband and I ate her one evening whilst visiting Liverpool. We both had pizza and it was excellent. The prices are reasonable and the tiramisu with Nutella was simply scrumptious. I would definitely recommend this place to friends. We had a lovely evening dining here. The staff were efficient and polite.

We loved it, we were in Liverpool for 3 days, we went Thursday night and it was so good we came back Saturday night 😀

One of the Excellent Italian restaurants in Liverpool City. The quality of food is high and delicious. Very busy during the weekends. I recommend this place for Italian cuisine lovers visiting Liverpool.

All good except for super salty chips that were not edible. Not to mention they were prepared for children, so definetely should have 1kg less salt in it. Also the restaurant is a bit too loud itself.

This restaurant has been lovely every single time we’ve been as a family and continues to be the place we bring visitors to! Our latest meal yesterday was absolutely gorgeous and the staff couldn’t have been more lovely. Make sure to leave room for dessert as the pistachio tiramisu is the best !!

This is by far the best most reasonable priced resturaunt , with excellent food!!! If you love your original italian. This is hands down the best in my opinion. And if you know Grappa. Well the best place to get it.. love this place hands down better than all other in liverpool..

We had a lovely meal here. There were 4 of us and had a mixture of dishes. The food was lovely, however the service was exceptional, we were served by Francesco and Jansue, who were knowledgeable and passionate about the food available. We’ll definitely return.

Pros: nice food, good pub opposite this place. Cons: the staff were rude. I went to order the food at the bar as we were sitting outside. They said our table is reserved and they need to move us, it was no signs of reservation though and after we moved inside people freely took that table the same way. And it was lots of free additional spaces too. So the waiter have been trying to figure out it for 10 mins completely ignoring me, then we waited for our food for more than 40 minutes as they probably forgot about our order being busy to deal with the FREE table. Not to mention I’ve been waiting for drinks for around 15 minutes too. So I definitely do not recommend it because of the staff attitude. This is that case when you’re coming for a food and nice time and you feel like you came to someone’s house uninvited.

We celebrated my sons 18th birthday in Amalia on Saturday. It was absolutely perfect. The food was so tasty, as always! The best thing about this restaurant is the staff. They really looked after us from start to finish, especially Charlotte. Can't wait to visit again!

Restaurant itself is very nice and tastefully decorated. The staff are pleasant and welcoming too and attentive enough. The food was ok but nothing special. The cold drinks we ordered were flat (Diet Coke) which wasn’t a huge issue but worth a mention. The starters - chicken croquettes and calamari - were not great. Calamari was quite bland no great taste and the chicken croquettes were small with not much chicken in (if any) For the mains the pizza and chips were ok, a Calabrese was ordered, it wasn’t very spicy but was nice enough to be fair. Not bad not great. The risotto which my wife ordered was disappointing and described as tasteless. Lot of salt added but it was mainly left unfinished. Overall I would say it was an ok place. The staff were very pleasant and the place itself has a nice vibe about it. Food was just ok.

Serviceable food, service got worse, portions smaller Very loud , many big groups. Service disorganised - drinks spilled on us and other groups. Some items didn’t arrive. The portions seem to have shrunk in 4 weeks and the quality dropped. Serviceable but wouldn’t be a go to place anymore. Garlic bread was dripping in oil as well

If you want to dine with your family or friends in a nice environment with sincere and friendly people, this is the right place. Of course, I must emphasize that the food was also delicious. If you do not have a reservation, there may be a bit of a wait for a table depending on the crowd. The prices are reasonable.

You can't go wrong with delicious pizza and a glass of red wine served by people who want to serve and are genuine ...Great hospitality. Sometimes sharing a pizza and oli olives in enough...then add the music and its a good feel factor.

Food and service fab. I only gave 4 for atmosphere because the music was a touch too loud for my preference. Nice music though, just a little too loud.

Had a wonderful meal here last night

At Amalia, the food is delicious, however, what really stands out is the attention of the staff, especially the waiter VICENTE, who made our visit something special. Their friendliness and knowledge of the menu made us feel welcome and cared for at all times. A perfect place to enjoy a memorable MEAL.

Always a pleasure to visit. We’ve never had a bad meal there. Goska Is such a lovely waitress, she’s so nice with our daughter.

A truly amazing gem of a restaurant serving tasty Italian food at very reasonable prices.We had some difficulty finding it in Campbell Square but so glad we persevered because it was a super discovery. Lovely authentic atmosphere with 2 delightful ladies serving..We came with friends and they enjoyed their spaghetti with fruits of the sea,penne with salmon and prawns and my partner had a delicious pizza with mushrooms and ham and I was more than happy with my lasagne and mixed salad. I’d have no hesitation recommending this marvellous restaurant.

Excellent service and food. We had to wait for a table and a little wait for the food but it was well worth that wait. The food was delicious, tasty and filling. I'd highly recommend this hidden gem.

Cant speak for the food im sure its very good. Bad customer service though. Ended up just walking out even before being seated. Staff looked over stretched and stressed.

Great place to have some food. Had a meaty BBQ and Hawain pizza , honestly one of the greatest pizzas i ever had. Also great service ,chilled atmosphere 😁 If around stop by 🤗

Delicious food, fair price, slightly forgetful service and the atmosphere is ruined by loud shouting staff (including the boss), who must openly shout and scream through the room rather than go to each other and talk, thus ensuring the happy atmosphere!

We visited Amalia’s deli and coffee shop for coffee and cakes on a recent trip to Liverpool. What a gorgeous little Italian deli this is! Lots of delicious goodies to choose from, and a good selection of drinks too! We ordered wine, coffee, tea, tiramisu, mille fieulle, and passionfruit tart. A lovely and welcoming coffee shop!

There aren’t many places you feel like you’re at home and amongst family, but Amalia is this place. We are always so welcomed with our little boy. The food is exceptional, the best pizza around, but it wouldn’t taste as nice without the amazing staff. Thank you so much for always looking after us.
