Don’t know the values of stamps, had the correct value but charged me extra and told me I was wrong. Second class stamps are 85p not 80p.

12 of us were on an organised walk from the nearby Ferry Meadows Country Park. They'd organised a tea-room stop for lunch at this establishment. What a delight it was for us all. It's secret treasure. Unbeknown to us the place had just been taken over, the service was great, ample tea (big refills of water) and the lunches (we had various) were all delicious. You must visit but you should be book ahead too.

LOVE this place. Staff in the post office and shop are wonderful! The shop here also has all the essentials and sells locally made products. They're a staple to Alwalton community. They also have a lovely tea room located up stairs but due to current conditions, it's closed. Hopefully when we get to some normalcy it will be up and running again in no time!

My friend and I alighted upon this delightful little place after taking ourselves on a very long walk. We needed some refreshments and tried the pub opposite - not open, this little tea room was. We were made very welcome , seated outside in the sun. Lovely friendly lady took our order and returned with lovely fresh coffee and delicious sandwiches. Great service and lovely home made food. Really revived us for our homeward walk. All we can say is pubs loss and our gain. Really needs another visit to try some of the cakes. Absolute treasure of a place.

My wife, my seven year old daughter and I visited soon after the new year, and we weren't disappointed. This is a lovely little tea room, slightly hidden away above Alwalton's village stores and post office. The tea room itself is quite small, enough space for perhaps 20 people, and it is in the upper room of a delightful thatched cottage. The service was very friendly, with the lady more than happy to chat to my daughter and tell her about the teddy bears which are dotted about the tea room. The place is quaint and rustic, and a far cry from most of the other modern places to get a hot drink and a slice of cake. The food is just right, especially if you're just getting back from, or just going out for, a walk around the Nene valley, which is right on the doorstep. We had poached eggs on toast, tea and coffee, and scones with butter, jam and clotted cream, all of which arrived nice and quick and was as tasty as we had hoped. On the way out, we bought a few things from the village store, which stocks newspapers, fresh bread, and lots of other staples. In all, a perfectly pleasant place with friendly service and good simple food.

This is not the sort of place you are likely to stumble on unless you are looking for it but all I can say is... go out of your way and find it! We visited for the tearoom and the service was personal and efficient. The food was lovely and really good value for money. The setting was idyllic; so quaint but light and clean. The special touch of the teddy bears scattered around gave it a character you are unlikely to find in many other places. The shop and post office were also open and the quick, friendly, personal service and efficient service was equally met here. Two points to note - the opening times for the tearoom are different to the post office (which are the times on here- from memory they are 9.30-3:30 Mon-Sat and 9.30-12 on Sunday) and the tearoom and shop don’t take cards and although you can get cash out of the post office; this is only when the post office is open. This really is a hidden gem that you need to visit!

Quaint building, but the cafe only occupies the upstairs which is a fairly small 'bedroom' area with few tables. Access up the stairs through the shop area is limited - would be tricky for anyone with mobility issues. Cosy, and fine for a drink and piece of cake on a not-busy day. But really very old fashioned and rather stuffy!

A small tea room above the post office and store in an old thatched cottage. We visit this tea room whenever we stay at the Ferry Meadows Caravan Park. A leisurely hours walk from the caravan site. We always have the cream tea. A large warm fruit scone with a pot of jam and a generous portion of clotted cream. Delicious. A lovely pot of tea with extra hot water is more than sufficient for 2 or 3 cups of tea. £4.75 each and worth every penny.

My daughter and I chose to have afternoon tea here as it had been recommended by a friend and we wanted somewhere typically English as my daughter was leaving for Australia for a year the following day. We weren't disappointed. The tea rooms are above the post office and we were greeted by a friendly waitress and shown to a table in the window. The decor is quaint with lace cloths on the tables. We decided to have the 'high tea' which consisted of a choice of 2 sandwiches on either white or wholemeal bread served with a salad garnish. This was followed by a large, freshly baked scone with a choice of preserve and thick cream ( not the squirty variety that's often served). We were too full to eat the home made cake to finish so took it home for later! The large pot of tea provided enough for several cups each. The bill for the two of us came to less than £15, far more reasonable than similar establishments, and the food was all home made and very fresh. I will definitely return and recommend to others.

This is my 2nd visit to these tea rooms, this time I went with a friend on a Saturday morning arriving around 11am. Initially we thought there might not be room as there seemed to be quite a few cars parked outside. We were pleasantly surprised to see, on venturing up the small staircase, that there was only 1 gentleman eating on his own. Since my last visit in Nov 2012 they seemed to of had a shuffle round of the furniture making more seating available. It was my friend's 1st visit here & she really like it. Service was very quick but then we only stayed for coffee/tea & delicious coffee cake. They are now doing a loyalty card where you collect stamps on it every time you go there & once you have accumulated enough you will get a free tea or coffee. I did find the hard wooden chairs slightly uncomfortable after a while, they could've done with a bit of cushioning but other than that no complaints. I will try to make more of my friends/work colleagues aware of this place so they can visit & more reviews can be made. Oh & before I forget it's open Sundays too which is a bonus as not many tea room are! Located opposite the Cuckoo pub/restaurant right on the corner so you can't miss it. Not sure whether I will take my husband though as with him being 6ft 1" tall he might find it a bit difficult as the tea rooms are located in the roof space above the post office/shop, I'm glad I wore my flat shoes as being 5ft 9" myself only just managed, it's okay once you're seated though. Tables can be reserved & you can pre-order food.

First time visit to this place with my mother for a light lunch, we arrived around midday (ish). The tea room is located in the roof space/attic of this rather old & quaint thatched building. The stairs leading up are very narrow & at the foot of the stairs you have to duck down a bit to avoid banging your head, there is a sign to warn you of this! On reaching the top of the stairs where the tea room is the tables are set out in a variety of either 2 place setting or 4, there was only one other elderly couple already seated. We noticed there were rather a lot of teddy bears dotted here and there. We opted to sit at a table for 2 near the imitation log burner which although was on did not radiat any heat which we could've done with as was a little chilly up there. The ceiling was also very low so I was rather glad I had opted to wear flat shoes as with being 5ft 9" tall, if I'd have worn heels I would of had to stoop to avoid banging my head. We had a pot of tea which would've been ideal had it been served in china or porcelain crockery, the tea was nice & helped to keep us warm though. Whilst waiting for our food more people had arrived & it seemed to get quite full rather quickly. Another couple of ladies who had ordered food had to leave as the wait for their food was taking too long, they just had a drink & had to cancel their food order as had another appointment to go to. Another lady arrived on her own and sat on a table near to us but must have got fed up even waiting to be asked what she wanted as no one came to serve her, she left after about 10 mins. Our food arrived seemingly quickly but then we only ordered sandwich baps which came with a small side salad but the rolls were so large we couldn't eat it all so I suppose there was value for money there. On the whole I probably would visit again but would go late morning to avoid the lunch time rush.

A lovely thatched village post office/stores with a tearoom upstairs. No disabled access to the tearoom unfortunately, but that is the nature of this very old building (steep narrow stairs),but there are tables set up outside if the weather allows. The tearoom ladies serve proper tea, light lunches, sandwiches and cakes, also takeaway sandwiches, fresh bread and other supplies are available from the well stocked shop. Close to the A1, Alwalton village is easily accessible from the A605 Oundle Road. There is a pleasant walk through the village, down to the River Nene and Alwalton Lock. Those requiring a more sustantial meal, could visit The Cuckoo pub, directly opposite the Post Office.
