Allard’s Lounge in North Tyneside

It’s hard to get so many things wrong for a meal that should have been so simple. Firstly all the tables were dirty with sticky circular residue where glasses had been. Second, the staff looked and acted like they had just been told that they were about to have a colonoscopy after their shifts. Third, when did a bacon and egg sandwich ever come with a side salad. Weird. Fourthly the bacon was poor quality and covered in fat which was inedible ( see photos) Fifth, the egg was cooked until it was as hard as a frisbee. Sixth, no soap in the soap dispensers in the toilets. Seventh, £32 for 3 coffees and 3 bacon and egg sarnis. Need I say more.

Paella was made with basmati rice. Pepper corn was more of a mustard sauce on steak tapas. Chill and salt chicken very oily.

The glass of iced water was the best part of this breakfast. Ordered the smashed avocado with feta and salsa verde with poached eggs. When the food eventually arrived (it was not very busy) the eggs were boiled and rubbery, no salsa verde and food was at best warm. My partner order the Spanish eggs. The plate looked like some one had vomited up the dish. The whole dish was covered in a sickly sweet sauce, poached eggs boiled and rubbery, the smashed avocado equates to two tiny squares. Absolutely not as advertised. No apology made and when we asked for a refund made to wait a further 10 minutes for this. Would not recommend or return. Quality of food and service was terrible. So many better places to eat along the quayside, this was a huge disappointment.

Very disappointed after been recommended to try here. Tables were dirty, waitress did wipe it but just wiped all the crumbs directly onto the floor. Very strong smell of stale fish too. Sandwiches sounded unreal ordered the bechamel ham and cheese one, it came on the wrong bread for a start after been asked which bread I wanted. It was also so soggy you couldn’t pick it up. Only positive were the chips were nice

Birthday breakfast for my daughter. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Food was delicious and promptly served. Will definitely be returning to try further items on the food menu, along with a few cocktails.

We came to Allards just on spur of the moment, we ordered the eggs on toast with some added extras, food was lovely & hot. There was a family behind us who we heard saying that the eggs were raw, didn’t tell a member of staff until they came to pay & it then turned into that all their food was terrible, Brett the member of staff who was clearing their table came back & said very politely that he had taken 50% off their drinks & 25% off their food, to be then subjected to effing & jeffing from one of the table, just no need at all considering their was children in earshot, if it was that bad why did you eat most of it & why not tell them straight away ???? Brett was lovely & dealt with it professionally.

We arrived at 9.30 for breakfast for Mothers Day. We ordered our food shortly after, but when it got to 10.15 there was still no sign of our breakfast. However, a family came in after us had received their order. So we mentioned this and the young lad went to see what is going on. He came back and said that they didn’t have an ingredient so had to remake it! We were offered complimentary drinks and when they arrived it was a wrong order. The manager called CLIFF came across and when we tried to have our say he basically called us liars and shouting at us which was very embarrassing. Eventually the food arrived and my order was completely wrong and all of our food was cold. We explained this to the manager who proceeded to shout at us and tell us that the food couldn’t be cold! We told him to try it and he just removed the food aggressively and shouted across the restaurant to remove our order. We have never felt so angry and embarrassed. Cliff was so unprofessional, rude and made us feel we were in the wrong. Never again will I go to this restaurant.

First time having food here at allards yesterday afternoon. We had the tapas deal , prawns , sliders , tacos and chicken dishes and a side of chips & dips with house rose wine . Food was absolutely beautiful 🤩. Decent size portions as well. Our new favourite in Tynemouth . Lovely pint of Guiness too . I wanted a mojito Which wasn’t on the menu . Restaurant looked very inviting, it wasn’t full, far from it. Which was surprising considering other eateries on the fish quay were full, and had no room. I was really looking forward to my fish and chips, until it arrived!!!! The Fish had been very overcooked and the batter was so crunchy. I had to break it away my knife and fork to find a small piece of fish within. The actual fish was no bigger than a Mars bar. It was dry and did not have a fishy taste at all. We will not be recommending or visiting this premises again .

Visited for lunch - lovely welcome from staff, friendly but not overbearing. Ordered tapas- fish goujons, lemon chicken bonbons, beef sliders and prawns pil-pil with fries and all was delicious!! We had wine recommended by hostess then lattes! Very reasonable price and then a lovely walk in the sunshine along the quayside - perfect afternoon!!!

Been here a few times now. The staff are so lovely and friendly. The food we got to share between two of us was a great portion size and tasted amazing. They offer nice cocktails which we treat ourselves too. I cannot wait to return.

Fabulous food and excellent service. Not a huge choice for gluten free on the new menu however they immediately offered to pan fry the fresh fish in butter and herbs. It was beautiful. The battered local cod was huge and cooked to perfection with chunky chips. The burgers were huge and on a half price special. Will definitely be going back.

Top restaurant and bar on the Fish Quay. Great menu and well stocked bar fir beer or cocktails. Friendly staff. 5 star experience!

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Not going to go into massive detail but the sausages had been cooked prior and warmed. The bacon was the same. Not sure how a restaurant is reheating food like that for breakfast. There was 2 tables and two waiting staff. The place was a shadow of how it used to be. Really poor all around.

I have had some previous really good experiences with Allards before tonight, so I was very disappointed in the changes. On entering, my friend had asked if it was possible to turn just one of the 2 large TVs off, we are both autistic and she explained we have visual processing difficulties so it's difficult to communicate with the additional stimulus. She also pointed out that nobody was actually watching them (apart from him, we noticed later) and was told that both TVs have to stay on because they 'paid a lot to have it installed.' After ordering food, I walked upstairs to the ladies and the same staff member was walking down them. The lighting up the stairs was so dim that I hadn't seen him. I stepped out of his way to be polite, and in doing so caught and injured my shoulder on the side of the stair railings/ceiling joist. I'm not the most steady on my feet, and I was obviously shaken and had cried out in pain. The guy just rushed past me as I lost my balance again and fell onto my hands and knees on the next set steps. He missed that one because he had just walked off without even checking if I was ok. He saw that first collision, as I was very clearly right in front of him (although I am at that 'invisible age' for women). I did that thing where you feel really stupid somehow you must have deserved complete indifference/humiliation. A simple 'are you ok' would have gone a long way. The girl waiting on our table was lovely, she tried to cover the mirrors so the 2 blinding TVs were not in our eyeline and then helped us get settled in seats with less glare, so things seemed to be improving... Until I ordered the Mussels... fortunately I didn't eat too many, as the Thai style paste used to make the sauce, was clogged with Thai paste, and they were not particularly pleasant. I seldom give a bad review, but to add further insult to injury (a sore shoulder, neck, back and bruised knees from my fall) I'm also currently filling in time between rushing back and forth to the toilet (having the sort of symptoms you might expect from bad mussels); so it's a good a time as any to make an exception. I may be repeating those mussels tonight, but I don't intend to risk repeating my custom at an Allards again in the future. Allards, if you are going to lock the downstairs bathroom with a radar key (excluding invisible disabilities, and others who have balance or other reasons they may need to avoid steps) at least make sure your stairways are well lit. If your staff are witnesses to, or are involved in an accident with a customer, you should train them to respond to this in an appropriate way. I expect to be treated with the same care and respect I afford others. If you are going to switch up your usual sensory friendly/accommodating environment for the 'Sports Bar super big TV's competing with loud music theme' maybe advertise this change clearly outside, so your old regulars can make other plans, or perhaps make some adjustments to the way you accommodate your neurodivergent visitors (no you don't pay a lot to have us, like you do with your shiney new TVs, but we shouldn't be treated like we are less important). And, if you can't adequately and safely prepare food on a quiet Sunday evening, just don't offer it.

Came on a Saturday night for a party. You should be informed that last orders is 11 o”clock even though it is open until 1 am. This has to be the most craziest idea ever. Who wants to sit with no drink for 2 hours and no Dj. It would be fine if they shouted last orders so you could buy a couple of drinks… but no!!!

Came across Allard's on Fish Quay by accident and because it was Wednesday they had their fabulous deal on: 4 tapas + 2 glasses wine for less than 25 pounds! The mussels in thai sauce were particularly delicious and the meatballs and chicken in salt and chili very nice. Would have something different to the paella next time though. We were looked after by the charming Jeannie, who was so sweet! We had a lovely chat with her! They also have this deal on Monday-Friday up till 5pm. The music was also pleasant. I'd definitely recommend this branch of Allard's.

We had our wedding reception here and Cliff and his team were brilliant all the way from booking to the night itself. We had the best night and the two girls on the bar were brilliant, the food was amazing too so thank you to the chefs. I’d highly recommend booking an event here, or even just coming here for a nibble and a drink! Thanks so much xx

We waited an hour and 15 minutes for our meals to arrive. When they did arrive the tapas were half the size of the previous week. Instead of 4 meatballs, our tapas consisted of 2. My understanding of the scheme is you pay half for the same portion, not half for half!After finishing our meal, we sat for 20 minutes waiting for our table to be cleared. I ended up paying at the bar and leaving. Shocking service, no apology and a waitress who insisted on calling everyone “my lovelies”Have a word.

Waited over 15 minutes after table was booked for until being seated in the bar instead of the restaurant as booked. Drinks order taken, food order taken. As mentioned it took far too long after that to receive food, we did get a complimentary round of drinks due to the delay but this is the only positive I can mention, there won’t be another before the end. When you start talking to the table next to you about the wait you know it isn’t going well. Food finally arrived maybe half an hour after small plates and cutlery were given out, poor again. Food was average at best, most of it was below expectations. The broccoli tapas was the best offering out of 16 total tapas dishes ordered. I had prawns, which were deep fried in feb shell and therefore unpleasant. Scallops were small and rubbery, no crust yet overdone and chewy. Calamari were more like scraps with little actual calamari I could find. Feelings around the table were similar, nothing but disappointment after the wait. Will not return, never got asked by waiting staff how things were which shows how little care is given by the staff. Waiting staff were fairly poor throughout the night. Table next to us were booked in at 8.15 and just got food as we left at 10pm. Don’t over extend yourself because Boris wants the public to “eat out to help out”, it’s greedy and harms any chance of repeat custom.

Visited as a family of 4 on a Monday evening so were able to participate in the eat out to help out of scheme. Lovely food which was enjoyed by all of us. Service slightly slow and we weren’t asked if we wanted desserts but not a problem as we were at the end of our 2 hour time slot. Only gripe was the 2 for 1 cocktails Monday to Thursday advertisement which was featured on the paper menu which doubled as a place mat. We ordered 2 rounds and it was only when we received the bill that we noticed that the cocktails were charged individually. We enquired about the cost and were told that the small print did point out this was during winter months only. Just a small niggle that stopped me from awarding 5

Coffee sitting out at lunchtime today. Coffee good but service poor. You get the feeling all the serving staff are new and not trained at all. Pricing ok The bins on street opposite were an eyesore I would not like look at whilst eating .
