We've just had a jemmy twitcher and spicy chips and absolutely loved it. A great combination of meats and flavours and very reasonable in price. The pizzas that were going out looked very tempting too but it'll be hard not to chose a JT again next time. Highly recommended and we will back soon for sure. Tom Jalapenos

Nothing better than a kebab to round of a day drinking.

A disgrace to Turkish cuisine. How you can brand yourself as ‘Turkish’ is beyond me. You clearly strive for the cheapest food you can cook and easiest way to prepare. The mixed ‘kebob’ was inedible and frankly disgusting. Wouldn’t order again even if I was starving. If your target market is drunk white people at 4am then fine but don’t false advertise online.

The Jemmy Twitcher is the best in Barnstaple according to my partner, I had a wrap and pleased the restaurant remembered and supplied my missing drinks from a previous order, which was a pleasant surprise, thank you Ali and team

Food ok but missing items when delivery arrived which was very disappointing, Will put me off ordering from them again shame as used to be the best in Barnstaple

We popped in here after a night out in Barnstaple and needed a snack on the way back to the hotel. We didn't want much sk just ordered a portion of Spicy Chips, we didn't wait long as there wasn't a queue. The chips were amazing and tasty spicy not hot spicy. If we are ever in Barnstaple again we would definitely pop in here.

Absolutely terrible, I cannot believe that the staff in this shop would send out the food they have to me this evening. They clearly have no standards. I have heard about places like these but guess I could consider myself lucky up til now having not ever had to experience one. I don’t write a lot of reviews unless it was particularly terrible or particularly good. I understand how much effect these reviews have on small businesses, but after their performance this evening, I just can’t keep quiet as I wouldn’t want anybody else wasting their hard earned money on what they may see as a little treat, while the cost of living is so high. How these con artists can accept money off people for the food they produce is beyond me. You couldn’t pay me to dine with Ali’s alcove again. To start, on just eat it stayed free garlic bread or bottle with orders over £18. This did not materialise. A shame but not the end of the world. The delivery driver very quickly handed me the food and scurried off abruptly, which at the time I didn’t think much of… now I know why! DO NOT ORDER THE FRIED CHICKEN!! It’s not what you’d expect… it’s not coated in eleven nor even one herb or spice… okay fair enough it didn’t state it was, but I expected a little more than just chicken thighs and a drumstick chucked into a deep fat fryer with the basket on top, so the bottom side is left to burn for half an hour at 200 degrees. In all honesty the chicken is what lead me to write this review. Dry, burnt, flavourless, greasy pucks of chicken carcass. Yum. I also ordered the large donner meat and chips. First off; it is not by a long shot a large portion. Garlic sauce was watery and very sparse. For some reason they decided to put mozzarella on the chips also… my least favourite cheese. It was gelatinous and not a welcome addition to the salty greasy kebab meat and soggy chips I was presented with for £7. My girlfriend ordered a pizza. Which she rated a 4/10 as it was greasy and bland. She did however on a lighter note say her cheesy chips were nice. So I guess there’s at least one positive nearly £30 later. Anyway… moral of the story is, don’t do it. Order from somewhere else that will value your custom and not have the audacity to send/serve you food anywhere near the standard that the staff of Ali’s alcove believe to be acceptable. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Please don’t waste your money. I have taken pictures but not sure how to upload them.

Worst kebab I have ever had!! Garlic and chilli sauce seem to have been watered down.. I looked at it and asked for more chilli sauce and when I opened it up when I got home I couldn’t even see any. It’s like they covered it in water. £10 for an absolute horrendous kebab!!!

As usual ordered my favourite as a treat, can't deal with going out evenings at mo, third time could cannot eat it, cold on over waiting delivery, no more. 😔

I am very Disappointed in your Jemmy twitchers! In the last week I have ordered 2 Jemmys and there was more onions and cabbage then meat... I was going to ring up for a refund tonight because its a joke! that is now twice you've done it and aint worth the money.. I used to love their Jemmys but never ordering from this place again!!

Wow - I’m unsure what’s worse…the food or customer service?! Cold food, burnt chips! Don’t order from there… honestly the pizza was rock hard, the chips were brown and cold and the chicken shush kebab consisted of a few cubes of chicken and lettuce.

Hard reheated chips and reheated doner meat.

POOR ! Really disappointed Chips stale and re cooked Kebab paid for a large - was a small and tasted old like it was yesterday’s meat Friend had a pizza - just full of grease and oil All round a really poor visit and sadly won’t be returning

I tried some my friend’s kebab meat, some with chilli sauce on and some without and it was just awful!! The worst kebab meat I have ever tasted!!

Friendly atmosphere and very tasty cheeseburger and spicy fries. Plenty of spice and good portion size. Reasonably priced - would recommend for a quick takeaway snack...

Chicken over cooked. Chips soggy. Hardly any spice on the chips may as well of just had normal chips. Onion rings rubbery and soggy. Garlic bread had a funny taste to it. And took over an hour to arrive. Never again.

My daughter ordered a takeaway as a treat whilst her mum was away for the evening, after an hour of waiting she was told that they had tried to deliver and knocked the door several times, she said that was impossible as not one of our 4 dogs barked and they let the world know if a pin drops outside. They said the delivery driver was on his way back. 40 mins later and by which time I was home we saw a car pull up across the road at my neighbours house and the driver got out and started walking up my neighbours drive, I went out and asked if he was supposed to be coming to me to which he replied "are you number 14", I said well you are supposed to of already been and knocked on my door so you should know that this is number 14. He apologised and handed me the food after basically admitting he had initially gone to the wrong house (which my neighbour confirmed to me, as she said someone had earlier knocked her door but she had been getting changed and didn't get to the door in time before he left). He went back and denied this to his boss!!! The food pictured below was freezing cold and looked awful and after costing my daughter who is on minimum wage and works hard £11.00 was totally un edible but they have refused to give her a refund saying their driver doesn't lie (I beg to differ. Do yourselves a favour and order from Yummiea or Anatolia as they have never given us a problem but we're just not taking orders tonight.

Best place around, you cannot beat ali's famous seasoned chips. As the saying goes "it's good but it's not quite ali's chips" nothing can compare to this immaculate miracle of culinary expertise. It is rumoured Heston Blumenthal went in search of the best chips in the world but upon tasting these he couldn't handle their magnifence and so settled for second best. There are only two times it is acceptable for a man to cry, at a funeral and if ali's alcove ever closes. Do your taste buds a favour and try these chips, although I warn you no amount of searching will ever find a delicacy to quite rival alis famous seasoned chips.

Worst takeaway I have ever had. Chips was soft and soggy and my chicken wrap was so soggy it fell apart. Not only that it was poorly wrapped as well. So disappointed. Would not recommend.

If you have not been here then you really should. Its the best kebab place in north devon by far. So what are you waiting for. Please take my word as gospel.

If you are on a diet this is the takeaway for you and I'll Explain why , the food arrives Luke warm and incorrect so if you like eating as a family should probably pass as well ! When you phone to point out that unfortunately they've made a mistake the person answering the phones takes the phone to the person in charge loudly calling you a liar in the background . Don't be fooled by the garlic sauce / mint mayo options they are one in the same and if you have allergies they don't listen and send the same meal again regardless by which stage you loose the will to phone and have such rude response again and are too annoyed to eat anymore . They obviously rely on the passing trade of the inebriated individual don't tempt it without an alcoholic drink or seven or you too will be bitterly disappointed and out of pocket !

Just had a delivery from Ali's alcove, ordered through JustEat, and it was the worst takeaway I have had in a long time. The order was postponed to 55 minutes opposed to the 35 minutes it said it would originally take when ordering. When then food eventually made its appearance, our experience from from bad to worse. The food was cold, the pizza base was soggy and the chicken pieces were dry! The worst experience in a long time. £15 thrown into the bin. Thanks very much. I would not recommend!

Awesome burger ,came down to see my daughter and her mum , after 6 hours Driving was great 👍. Nearly as good as my local in Leigh on sea . But I will be here soon and that will be my local 😎

Voy a Alcoba de Ali para tomar un bocadillo de medianoche tras salir por la noche a veces y me encanta los chips picantes. También he tenido su pollo fresco y kebobs que son muy sabrosos! Ali- así que es muy amable y educado son todo su personal. Su lugar siempre está muy limpio y ordenado.

Este es el lugar a donde ir si su hambre después de tener una noche de marcha en Barnstaple. Ali y su personal son siempre amable y las porciones son enormes. Si nunca has estado en North Devon antes, tienes que probar original Receta "Jemmy Twitcher de Ali". Parece que ha habido algunas imitaciones que venden Jemmy Twitchers, pero la Jemmy original proviene de Alcoba de Ali.

Love going too alis after a night out. Always prepared in front of you and looks clean and tidy. Ali himself is lovely and always seems to remember you! My fav place to go after a night out.

Get this I ordered on just eat @ Ali's Alcove at 11.30pm said it would be at mine for 12.15pm food has not turned up, no phone call nothing checked website said 11.59 closed....

Brilliant pizza's and the kabobs look great too, highly recommended for a take out treat. They also do some unusual Devon specialities which I am looking forward to trying on my next visit.

Just ordered a chicken sandwich meal from ali's the chips were hard and chicken not cooked and was watery. Sorry you lost a loyal customer I spent the last of my money and have to eat noodles and soup and bread til tomorrow.

Went here on a Saturday night at about 4am . The place was filthy! muck all over the floor and windows ! Ordered some cheese chips which seem to take forever to come which was more annoying because there was only 2 other people in...

Well everytime I visit here I am slightly worse for wear. I have never had a bad bit if food. Pricey are good and Ali and his staff are lovely. You do get a lot of drunk silly people there, but that's expected in the middle if the night. Highly recommend the garlic pizza bread :-)
