Another lovely meal here for valentines night even had a little chocolate heart on our table once again staff were really friendly and gave Great service

My wife and I love this restaurant. Great food in plentiful portions at very fair prices. The setting is lovely and the service always excellent. We are going again this evening. Five stars all around.

Visited last night as a party of 7 to celebrate a birthday. The food was excellent and portions are generous. Everyone in our group really enjoyed their meals. We have been to Alghero occasionally over a number of years and have always found it to be very good and reasonably priced. Definitely would recommend.

Went again last night, I had spag bol, I can still taste it, manificent, Ian had fillet steak witj green pepper sauce, Vince had veal, served with potatoes and fresh veg, amazing home made tiramisu, and 2 bottles of Pino Grigio, all in all a great meal, reasonably priced, and really friendly, helpful service, good to see such a special place still going strong, thanks

Having visited Sardinia, we came to relive our experience, and Alghero Restaurant did not disappoint. The food was wonderful, and we were glad they did the Seafood Soup we had every day whilst in Sardinia.

Our club group enjoyed the lovely food and excellent service. Portions were generous, food was nicely presented and there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. We'll go back if we're in Poole again.

Outstanding!! I had the lemon chicken dish that came with sautéed potatoes added seasonal vegetables. The best chicken I’ve ever had, the sauce was divine. The house red was incredibly smooth and fruity very reasonably priced. Highly recommend, very authentic and run by an Italian family.

This is a jewel of a restaurant. Our friends wanted to treat us so we came here. Service impeccable, house wine excellent, really tasty food, home cooked Italian cuisine. Prawn starter outstanding , seafood salad starter more like a main, the seafood risotto main is the best risotto we have ever had, the fish zuppe is ny personal favourite, homemade tiramisu rich and flavoursome. It's the only restaurant we go back to repeatedly. Outstanding .

The atmosphere is a little tired but the service was friendly and efficient. The portions are huge. We went for the smaller portion option which they offer. It is a little cheaper than the standard portion but still plenty. The food was well prepared and presented. Plenty of different pasta, meat and fish dishes but no pizza. The location is a little difficult in terms of parking.

From the moment the phone was answered to book I knew we would have a lovely experience in this restaurant. The welcome was just as warm and everyone we spoke to was attentive and lovely. We like well cooked simple delicious food and that is exactly what we got. We stuck to our absolute favourites but can you really ever have too much of garlic mushrooms or a plate of delicious chicken in an authentic Italian sauce. Lovely evening and we will be back for more

Myself and my elderly Mum dined here tonight due to an overnight stay in Poole ahead of our trip to Jersey. We wish we didn't live 130 miles away as we would be back in a flash! Perfectly cooked food, full of flavour, could not find fault. Also, the staff were amazing and kind. They took the time to talk to us and made us feel so welcome. One of the ladies helped Mum into the restaurant and when we were leaving she literally stopped the traffic to ensure Mum got across the road back to the car. We were so grateful. So kind. Thank you for a great evening and if we are ever back in Poole we will see you again.

We booked for a Saturday evening meal and the food and wine were really good. With a limited wine list we thought this would be an issue but we were pleasantly surprised with the fine bottle of red we chose. The portions were large. Very knowledgeable staff and super friendly. Tables spaced apart well. We would highly recommend this restaurant for great food and wine, decent price and friendly staff. My veal was cooked perfectly. The Gnochi was very tasty (although the portion was huge).

2.5, the food was decent but just an average Italian restaurant not sure what the rest of the reviews were cracking on about. The service was rather poor with slow order service and no removal of extra cutlery. No refills all round the table at all, forgetting orders and smashed glasses. Unfortunately waiting rather too long.

Fabulous food served by friendly staff in a pleasant homely environment. One of the best places I have eaten in in this area. If your in the area or even 20 miles away it’s worth a trip. Outstanding .

Came with my son last week. He had pasta and I had salmon. Both cooked beautifully and accommodated my son with a box to take home as the portion was very generous. Nice chilled rosè wine and good attentive service. It was quiet when we were there as was early but Lovely vibe. Recommended

We enjoyed an exceptional family meal. At this restaurant. The squid was some of the best we've tasted and the other starters, including the beef carpaccio were also outstanding. Main courses of risotto could not be finished so large was the portion, and the roasted potatoes with the Veal course work again just outstanding. It's a pity we do not live near this restaurant will be there every week. Well recommended.

Food was delicious. The plate of bread with dip that the bring out was so good I honestly wish it came as a full starter. I had the prawn starter whilst my partner had the sausage; very very good although we preferred each others dish! Both very full with sauce they were almost like a soup. For mains, I had the seafood pasta whilst my partner had a chicken pasta. Both portions were huge! You get so much for your money that I genuinely suggest you go on an empty stomach. Neither of us finished our dishes and I think my main could have easily fed me twice. Very lovely ladies who served us. I'm unsure if it's a family business but it was excellent service and I'm looking forward to next time.

Visited with friends last night and had a lovely meal. The atmosphere was subtle and friendly and the staff were very welcoming. We all had starters which were fresh and delicious and then 2 had steaks and we had pasta. Beautifully cooked and large portions so be hungry when you go. I would definitely say this is my new steak place of choice. Well worth a visit and well priced for such good food.

Had a late afternoon reception there. Normally closed but opened especially for us! Pre-ordered food from menu as there were 16 of is. Great starter and main. Very tasty and proper plate full. Couldn't manage a sweet, too full! Service was fantastic, really attentive but not pushy! Easy to access location on bus routes so can have a drink. Great time!!

On reading all the great reviews we couldn't wait to dine here. First of all the positives - staff are very attentive and friendly, the restaurant itself is quite nice and has a cosy friendly atmosphere. However these things alone are not enough to warrant all the wonderful reviews given - if the food is not up to scratch then something somewhere has gone wrong. Therefore although I hardly ever write reviews (you either like a place or you don't in which case you don't go back) but I'm just not understanding how people can say this is the best Italian food they've ever tasted in this area. Really! For a starter I chose the avocado cardinale, smoked salmon and prawns in rosemary sauce. It was plentiful but I did worry about the pale colour of the smoked salmon and it certainly wasn't the best tasting smoked salmon I've had. The sauce turned out to be the bog-standard seafood sauce with no hint of rosemary. A little disappointed about that. For mains I chose the veal in marsala wine. As I ordered it the waitress told me that it was a sweet red wine sauce just so that I knew what to expect. What I didn't expect was for it to taste exactly like sickly caramel sauce (exactly like the type from a squeezy bottle to drizzle over ice-cream for kids). Also it only came with small roasties (the tastiest part of the meal). This is not like other Italian restaurants I've dined at where you could expect maybe 2 other veg to accompany the meal. Yes you can buy separate side dishes of course. I looked online to find out what I should have expected with the marsala wine sauce and here's what it said "Marsala is an Italian fortified wine with smoky, deep flavor. When making savory dishes like chicken or veal Marsala, dry Marsala is the classic choice; when making desserts, sweet Marsala is chosen". There was no smokiness or deep flavour in the sauce used on my veal, just a horrid caramel flavour - yuck. I did mention it to the waitress but she kindly suggested next time I may prefer the veal with lemon. Hmm ...... doubtful. To finish I ordered the homemade Panna Cotta. What came was covered in a chocolate sauce (no mention of this on the menu). The sauce was sickly sweet and I'd be surprised if it was homemade. Couldn't comment on whether the panna cotta was good or not as the sauce swamped it. I could have complained, I could have sent any of it back, I could have asked for a refund. No I don't want any of these things I just want to go out and enjoy good food in a restaurant that delivers this in a good atmosphere. The second part of this requirement was fulfilled but is futile if the food is not up to scratch. People are more likely to write in if they have a good experience so there will always be more good reviews than negative but it's a shame if you don't listen and act on constructive criticism also.

This restaurant is a hidden gem, It is situated on the high street. it has a relaxed atmosphere and the staff are warm and friendly. The food is excellent and this restaurant deserves to be booked out every night. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

We visited Alghero as a large party last night and we were looked after very well by the staff. The food plentiful and delicious ( we pre ordered as there was so many of us )which made it easier for the staff but all in all an amazing evening and we shall definitely be returning.

Nice warm welcome, a choice of tables and lovely service. Pre warning, go hungry. Starters were large, mains huge but you are able to take a ‘doggy bag’ home with you (you’ll need one!) The food is delicious, starter of spicy sausage and red peppers was outstanding ding, pate lovely with plenty of crostini and a good sized salad accompaniment. Mains of seafood risotto, seafood pasta, bolognaise and chicken liming with veg and sautéed potatoes all superb. If you make it to dessert well done! Only 1 of us did and it was as good as everything else. In short go here, but make sure you’ve not eaten at lunchtime!

The Restaurant Alghero must surely rank as Poole's hidden treasure. A one-off visit has resulted in this becoming my go-to place to eat, which considering I live in Hampshire is no mean feat. Let's start with the restaurant itself. Nothing from the outside gives away what a jewel lies within. Small enough to be intimate yet big enough not to seem crowded, it has that ambience that immediately makes you feel comfortable. The staff. Friendly, helpful and accommodating from the owner to the waiting staff, all are there to help you enjoy your evening, not just to deliver the food. The food. Ah, the food. An varied menu full of prime Italian food. Your can have hot or cold starters depending on your mood before moving onto the mains. And what a choice. I seem to be working my way through the menu and have yet to be disappointed in anything I've tried. The portions are generous, to say the least and have, so far, all been perfectly cooked and delicious. The deserts. Hmmm, I rarely have room for one if I have a starter, so it's a difficult choice between which 2 courses to go for. The Tiramisu is light and flavoursome and the almond and chocolate cake is dark, rich and heavy. Those are the only 2 I've tried but I doubt anything else could be more delicious. So, I can heartily recommend this hidden gem; it scores so well across the board and is remarkably inexpensive. I would suggest you have the Veal....no, the Sea Bass...wait, have the seafood risotto...or the Fillet steak....no, have what takes your fancy, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
