My wedding reception was dire. I paid thousands to be spoken to awfully. Please if you book this place, just book the building, do not use anything they supply. It was all terrible and has been nothing but stress. Joshua Holmes is not a manager he is simply a salesman and does not take complaints seriously or do what he said he is going to do. I just can't even, anymore, it's exhausting. Utterly disappointed Demi Florence.

A very disappointing Christmas afternoon tea. We were shocked as to how standards have slipped since our last visit. Upon arrival we weren’t shown to our table but the greeter merely pointed to our table from the other side of the room and said “that’s your table over there!” The room was freezing cold so we kept our coats on throughout the stay. One of the other guests commented that her hands were so cold her fingers were numb. When the soup arrived it was cold. There was no bread roll or butter which we had to ask for. When the bread rolls were brought out instead of us being offered one, the server picked them up in his bare hand, leaned across each of us to put them on our plates. We were quite shocked at this especially with the Covid situation. The butter eventually turned up after we had finished our soup! When we complained about the service we were given the excuse that our server was ‘new.’ We would have expected even new staff to have basic hospitality training. An overall very disappointing experience. Staff need good hospitality training and to learn good manners. We shall never return! Please do not waste your money by going to Alfreton Hall, choose another venue!

We had our wedding at Alfreton Hall in September 2020. We had our date booked in for over a year, so before coronavirus hit the world. Throughout everything, Josh and Alex supported us at every point with nothing being too much trouble. When our church cancelled on us for our ceremony, they picked up the pieces and gave us all the information we needed in order to have a civil ceremony at Alfreton Hall. Our day was so perfect - AMAZING food, great communication and everything exactly the way we planned it (once we amended things a few times due to covid!). Now just hoping we can go back for a large reception party next year to celebrate with the guests we couldn't have with us on the day. Thank you so much for making our wedding day so memorable!

Very good building but this event was poorly organized, there was no seating plan so it became a bit of a free for all, don't think we will bother next year, there are better events to be sampled.

We got married at Alfreton Hall at the weekend. Everything was perfect. The staff were friendly and attentive. The Hall was spectacular- the Christmas decorations made it really quite special. Have visited Alfreton hall on several occasions for afternoon tea usually via a groupon offer which is excellent value. Had booked a specific date, as my friend had flown down from Scotland, confirmed the date both in an e mail and via phone, and they had made special arrangements to allow us to have our afternoon tea on the date but in the bar area as a wedding fair was being held, unfortunately upon arrival, we found some “opportunists” had taken our place and were eating our afternoon tea package! Someone had told the staff when asked “have you booked?” ...yes ... and they were lead to MY table! As this was being specifically laid on for myself and my friend, the Hall had only catered for one afternoon tea, and the “opportunists” had taken it! The day was saved by a wonderful young man called Josh whom I believe was the events manager? To make amends he paid out of his own pocket for us to have a lunch at a bistro within walking distance of the Hall. Although not as luxurious a setting as Alfreton Hall, it was very nice indeed! The really lovely touch was that as we had been let down, he also sent us home with a bottle of Prosecco! Customer care at its very best! Really.lovely place to visit, and full recommend Josh and his staff are amazing thank you! You made our day with your kindness x

Booked afternoon tea, had to re check booking as the first time they didnt ask for a name or phone number and we wanted to know they could provide options for someone who was Gluten free. They said they could provide Gluten free but it was revealed they obviously couldnt when we received the afternoon teas. The gluten free option consisted of cheesecake and a couple of bought in cakes, nothing was home made, there was no scone for the gluten free person...... the staple of afternoon tea....how long does it take to knock up a batch of gluten free scones. The sandwiches consisted of two approx 2" triangles one ham one cheese and a split bread roll with very runny egg mayonaise on it, no salad or garnish to make it at least cover the micro small bottom of the cake stand, there was a scone provided on the non gluten free option and it seemed home made and there was lashings of cream and jam and it was very nice, the other cakes consisted of a difficult to describe moose type thing that had been cut so thin it just dissolved into nothing, a massive dry piece of victoria sponge....shop bought with nasty cheap butter cream and a quite nice home made but miniscule chocolate eclair. We had to ask for tea and coffee to be provided. The staff clearly had no clue what to provide for afternoon tea but were attentive and helpful and pleasant, the surroundings were quite grand but in need of some housekeeping, cobwebs in corners and on lights, a lovely view onto a veranda with a fountain and across the park. It cost us £12.50 each and it was daylight robbery for what we got, on the whole the place seemed to lack anyone in charge and appeared tired and lack lustre and they need a chef who understands gluten free diets and options and who knows how to provide an afternoon tea that has at least some wow factor. We didnt complain to the waiter as he was doing his best but wont be recommending the venue to anyone else.

The sole staff for the accommodation was v helpful. Lots of huge old furniture spread across the front room, which is very cold (temperature) and it turned out this is where the breakfast is also served. I don't think it will be a place I would like to be booked again. The good bits about it probably though very eerily is that it is quiet and the shower room was spacious and brightly clean.

Shocking service. Phoned every day for a week and left messages on multiple lines to book afternoon tea. No one responded to my queries and once had got hold of someone. They were very dismissive and did not feel that they wanted my business. When I mentioned that I had phoned and left messages the person just did not seem bothered and then hung the phone up on me. So I will or would not recommend alferton hall for lack of customer service.

Unfortunately the website lead us to think that this hotel was set in beautiful grounds and was an elegant country house. One arrives at the back of the hotel which looks very rundown, giving a bad first impression, overlooking a large commercial building with a big car park. The hotel needs updating and seemed to be running on a skeleton staff, although the two people we did see were pleasant. The front of the building was obviously grand at one time but looks faded. The restaurant was not open for dinner so we had to find an alternative place to eat, but breakfast was quite good. Our bedroom, although clean, was not in the main house which might have given us a better impression. Our room was in an extension and was only adequate and overlooked a large car park.

Very memorable stay here with our American friends recently was definitely pulled out the bag. It was a complete surprise for our friends as a trip down memory lane. From the absolutely amazing rooms, food atmosphere it was worthy of ten stars. The icing on the cake was a member of staff Callum. He greeted us at the door, gave us a very informative conducted tour and the surprise he gave to our friends when he handed the keys to the most magnificent room was very emotional. His attention to detail continued from being cocktail waiter to serving our meals helping us get the most from the menu to being there again at breakfast . Had trouble booking as couldn't get through on phone and not very responsive to emails, was pleased to finally book in to take my kids to celebrate Mother's Day.Lovely piano playing on arrival and greeted by a pleasant gentleman who ordered our drinks whilst we browsed our menu, unfortunately it went down hill from there. It was a set price for 2 or 3 courses, we decided we wanted pudding so ordered our mains. We sat for over an hour, not often being able to catch a waitresses attention then we were asked if we wanted dessert and had to point out we were still awaiting our main. When it eventually arrived we had random bits of beef on our plates when we'd ordered pork, there was no gravy and our veg had been forgotten. Poor waitress made about 7 trips backwards and forwards every time we prompted her. It took forever for our plates to. Be cleared. I eventually asked for the bill, the gentleman apologised for our service (2.5hrs for 1 course) when I said we didn't want to wait another hour for dessert. He also reduced our bill accordingly. Shame as it is a lovely setting they just didn't manage to organise effectively.

Visiting the hall for the first time prior to a wedding I was greeted by Matthew a very polite eager young man who was more than happy to show me round.. I was able to get plenty of test shots and a really good idea of what I wanted to shoot on the day.On the day itself the hall was decked out beautifully the fountains were working and the grounds were spotless. The staff on hand were both courteous and professional and could not do enough to help. The hall was bright and airy and decorated and maintained in a sympathetic manner in keeping with its age and heritage. The wedding was seamless and the master of ceremonies ensured I had every opportunity to get the shots I wanted. The food was sublime served to me in the bar hot and tasty. All in all an excellent experience and one I hope to repeat in the future.

Room is utterly beautiful, so much space and wonderfully decorated and fitted out. Just finished dinner, lovely food, well cooked and presented. Staff are very relaxed, pleasant and very helpful. Really I can't find a bad word to say. Talking to the Manager, it seems Alfreton Hall is a busy wedding and events venue that has recently decided to open their beautiful selection of rooms from Monday to Friday to see if they can attract a bit of mid week trade. They are totally realistic in respect of what a weekday business traveller expects in terms of price and quality - so the question is, why bother with a Premier Inn or Travelodge when for pretty much the same sort of money you can stay here!

We chose to have our Wedding at Alfreton Hall through a recommendation and we were not disappointed. From the very first enquiry to the final dance on the night the whole experience was exceptional. In the build up to the day there was constant communication between myself and the management team there who have a great sense of humour and make what could be a stressful process very enjoyable. They were very understanding at every turn. They allowed good access to the venue beforehand to have walk throughs and plan where things would go. The actual day was amazing. The food, the reception, the staff were amazing. Even when the Hog roast had been cleared away, they even allowed my now Father-in-law to help himself to more once it was back in the kitchen. Everyone who came to the wedding had nothing but good and amazing things to say about the day, atmosphere and venue. On arrival we waited 10minutes before being acknowledged we had arrived, no sign of staff. We were taken to our table, asked what tea we would like. My husband asked for Earl Grey, when waiter came back with tea, told, no Earl Grey but had made him Darjeeling tea, thought that would be okay. I told him no fish sandwich for me so food arrived and all they had done was swopped my tuna with my husbands chicken, don't think this appropriate, why didn't they make myself a different sandwich? One couple left when finished and the waiter, carried chairs out of the room at head height followed by the table, felt he was rushing to get home, he then told us, 'don't worry if we can't finish the food we can take what is left home with us'. The food was very nice and pleasantly served. BUT, when we asked for more tea, reply was, it will cost you an extra £2 per pot or we could have hot water for free. Er Really don't think so, this afternoon tea was a present to us and my daughter in law would be so upset to know of this.

We would like to thank Luke, Josh and the team at Alfreton Hall for the most amazing and fantastic day for my daughter and son in law (Jenna & Aidan's) wedding 4/6/16. It was an absolutely superb venue and setting. The rooms, food and staff were amazing. We cannot thank you enough for the amazing memories you helped to create. Jenna & Aidan had a fabulous day and in the words of many guests "it was the best wedding ever". We would highly recommend that anyone thinking of arranging a wedding should contact Luke/Josh and consider Alfreton Hall as we cannot praise them enough. Once again a massive thank you - it was worth every penny. Julie & Andy Carnell ( brides parents)

22 cover afternoon "tea room" in the Hall ( wedding and conference centre) The 2 waiting staff were friendly enough and provided good service. Glass of fizz provided as you sat down. Tea eatery selection is pretty fair and good value ( have been spoiled with tea at the Ritz on two occasions. We had a Groupon voucher for tea for 2 for £15 but this is the going price anyway. Finger sandwiches covered egg, cheese, ham, tuna and chicken but I did miss the smoked salmon and cream cheese. Nice scones and a good slice of Victoria sandwich with 3 small fancies to round things off. Shame that there was not a choice of actual tea and when I asked for my pot to be refilled they said hot water was free but fresh leaves would be extra. All in all enjoyable and worth the money as a decent sandwich and a drink in a café can cost close to the same. Will be going again

Bought a voucher deal to take my mother out for afternoon tea for part of her birthday treat. Had been on the local Crompton Canal cruise. Very disappointed in the whole afternoon to be honest. The hall isn't as grand as we thought, just a small very dated hall, no grounds to walk in, no stunning views. The whole building is in bad repair. The corridor down to the tea room was awful, with damp patches, flaky paint work etc. There was a rather grey net curtain, attempting to hide a back way, which was totally overgrown with all weeds coming through the paving. The toilet wall had a hole in it with all the paper peeling around it, and the back of the toilet door was filthy. Onto the tea room. Rather nice cosy set up, would have loved the fire to be lit as we were frozen from our trip on the canal, but changed tables to sit hugging one of the two radiators. The ambience was lovely. However, as stated below, the bubbly was flat and not much taste and strength at all! The tea was absolutely revolting, poured out like 'dog pooh', it certainly wasn't tea leaves! Very strong. We were not offered another pot at all, and there was no staff hovering around to ask when we had run out! The sandwiches were cut in fingers and a very poor selection. Not equal amounts so we asked the waiter to go and find the missing cheese one (which he did). The fruit scones were inedible, certainly they had no sugar in the mix at all and they came with squirty cream not clotted! I certainly would not recommend this place, even at the discounted voucher price. Very disappointed as I regularly eat afternoon tea out, and this was not a great present for my mothers birthday.

Location is a surprise! You go down this road with new buildings and then arrive at this old interesting historic building. Easy to get to and plenty of parking. The hall is run down and I think they must be doing it up a bit at a time BUT don't let that put you off! Afternoon tea was just excellent. Presented on proper china. Good variety and selection of sandwiches. Delicious cakes and little pastries. Tea served in a pot with a strainer. It was quaint!Staff were attentive. Just be aware that they must operate a sitting procedure because we were the last ones to go and they were setting up for the next lot. They didn't hurry us and we finished at a very leisurely pace but it was little distracting. Maybe just check with them if you want a long tea time!

Arrived slightly early for our booking, but were taken straight away to or reserved table. We were welcomed and seated and then the waiter explained how the tea was served. There was 4 in our party and the food arrived on two serving displays (each for two people). The sandwiches were very fresh with a good assortment of fillings. We each had an excellent cherry scone complete with jam and whipped cream, a piece of beautifully light Victoria Sponge, with an excellent creamy filling and a small square of lemon drizzle com and a miniature jam tart. All the food was beautiful, all served with delicious pots of tea (which was refuelled as many times as we wanted). My daughter acquired a Groupon voucher for the price of £9 each, so all in all an excellent afternoon tea experience, which I can highly recommend

Came on a groupon offer with friends for afternoon tea as a belated birthday treat. Lovely little place tucked out of the way. Seated quickly in an elegant room with lovely ambience. They had kindly prepared afternoon tea for one of us without any fish as per our request. Nicely presented. Glass of Prosecco, finger sandwiches, scone and mini cakes. The scones sadly weren't cooked through quite enough, one had raw dough in, we asked for a replacement which was no bother. Unfortunately the second scones weren't quite cooked enough either, we could taste the flour. We were not the first to send the scones back so i assume it was a batch that had needed a few extra minutes cooking. We moved onto the cakes, the Victoria sponge was delicious, the lemon & white chocolate bite was moist and the mini eclair and mini tartlet were fine. Overall it was enjoyable but we were just disappointed in the fact we didn't get to enjoy what looked to be lovely scones, as they're such an integral part of having afternoon tea. Having advised them of the second scones not being suitable either it might have been nice gesture to have been offered an additional cake in replacement perhaps. Will look to other local venues before returning for a visit here.

There is a lovely view of the grounds and the place has a relaxed feel to it.We had a champagne (Chumet) afternoon tea which was fresh and well presented. There was far too much to eat and the staff kindly offered to plate up the remainder to take away, which was a nice gesture. We went on a Woucher deal so it was half price and was a great price at £15 for two people.Despite the beautiful setting and tasty fresh food, what really stood out was the staff. They really could not do do enough to make our time there special, So helpful and that went across the board. So nice to see these days and was very much appreciated. We shall be back!

Using a Voucher, we arrived at this interesting venue to be welcomed by the immaculately presented Michael, who was most attentive to our needs throughout. The impressive former Entrance Hall, with original flagged stone floor is the venue for Afternoon Tea. Sofas and very comfortable modern easy chairs, tastefully laid tables, each with bone China crockery, are inviting. Michael introduced us to Gail, the very capable cakemaker, who explained exactly what she had prepared for me. It was such a large selection of delights that some of them returned home with us! All the cakes and scones for normal diets are homemade, and my selection, though understandably bought in, was varied and well balanced. The strawberries were a refreshing touch. My husband had a large pot of proper leaf tea, complete with strainer; my decaffeinated pot came with extra hot water on request. The background music, the volume of which they turned down for me, was jazz: a pleasant change from the pop that is so often inflicted on us! Disabled ♿ Parking bays: large Disabled ♿ loo and lots of space around the tables to move around. An extremely positive experience at a venue we would recommend for a Genteel outing.

The staff could not have been more polite, hospitable and attentive if they tried, but not intrusive . The sparking wine very nice start. The food was as good as any expensive afternoon tea I have had before,if not better. 6 types of sandwich with generous filling. Scones with butter, cream and jam And finally , 4 types of cake/ tart that were incredible . We got to meet the lady who made them and thank her as she certain is an wonderful baker . Sparkling wine, leaf tea (coffee if preferred) a choice of sandwiches and cake. Everything to enter the, now lucrative, afternoon tea market except for one thing; the scones. The overall experience is lovely and the scones are fresh and home made, personally the main thing that let it down was that most of the cakes are shop/supermarket bought some even frozen. Having visited before for afternoon tea, we thought we'd visit here for breakfast . We were sat overlooking the grounds and were treated to a three course feast. We started with a choice of cereals or friut and yogurt followed by a full English including two rounds of toast. Having munched our way through this to our surprise we concluded with pancakes with fruit & syrup. This was all washed down with a glass of sparkling wine and copious amounts of tea or coffee. The only downside was the deep fried sausage and not being offered a choice of how our egg was cooked - it came fried but poached or scrambled would have been nice. The staff were attentive and pleasant and the whole experience was unrushed, calm and an enjoyable start to the day. We didn't need to eat for the rest of the day! Well worth a visit.

There was a good choice of sandwiches all neatly arranged and crusts removed. This was followed by fruit scones with jam and cream, then a selection of cakes, slices of layer cake, small eclairs, lemon cake and a tiny jam tart with blackberry which was delicious. The staff were courteous and discreet, all in all a relaxed and enjoyable experience.

I cannot praise Alfreton Hall and its' staff highly enough. Myself and my husband got married there at the weekend followed by a formal meal for 70 people and an evening buffet. I am a true perfectionist so if anyone could find a fault it would be me and believe me there were none to find! The venue itself was beautiful and the food was absolutely outstanding. We opted for a three course meal and every course was fantastic. The terrine starter was gorgeous, the beef was cooked beautifully and melted in your mouth, and the apple pie just like my Granny used to make was a winner all round! The vegetarian meals were also spot on and there were clean plates all round! The children's meals were equally great with garlic bread, chicken nuggetts and chips and chocolate brownies and ice cream! the food all came out at the same time to all tables so there was no sitting and waiting and timings between courses was perfect. All of the staff were attentive and helpful from the waiters and waitresses to the bar and kitchen staff. We looked at A LOT of wedding venues before choosing Alfreton Hall. We were really impressed and really liked Luke and Josh who organised our day there, they were helpful, understanding and nothing was too much trouble from my last minute panic texts, calls and emails to meeting with us to discuss our requirements. The wedding package offered at Alfreton Hall was fantastic value for money and all elements of the day were such high quality including the pianist, dj and the outstanding fireworks which were better than many organised displays we have seen on bonfire night! The room was set up exactly how we had asked and the day flowed perfectly due to Luke's organisation and planning of our requirements. His knowledge of weddings and understanding of what we wanted made things so easy. Throughout the day Luke and his staff were coming to find myself and my husband regularly to check we were happy and to ask we needed anything. The staff were all incredibly professional and helped us until late into the evening organising taxis for us and helping us to load the car. It truly was a magical day and Alfreton Hall was the perfect icing, on the perfect cake on what was the best day of our lives. Mr and Mrs Smith

This was my second visit to Alfreton Hall for an afternoon tea, the first had been enjoyable hence the reason to book as a Mother's Day gift. Although the venue has elements of grandeur its facade is a little worse for wear, but I suppose it could be described as shabby chic and relaxed, although requiring a good clean, especially the piano in the tearoom. Some of the young waiting staff although very smartly dressed appeared to lack confidence and seemed uncomfortable with customers, but service was welcoming and prompt. The food served could only be described as average, pre made pastries and scones, sandwiches appeared freshly made, but both the tea and coffee served was good, although if a refill is requested , this requires additional payment. I dare say this experience would have also been described as enjoyable until the builders in the room above began drilling, our party was not sat directly below this, unlike some customers, but we could not not hear ourselves speak, it sounded like the drilling was in the same room. I spoke to a waitress to ask if the noise could stop whilst customers were still eating, to be told essential work was being carried out but she would speak with the cook/manager. A female came to speak with us and again said the work carried out was essential,it was either put up with the noise or shut the tearoom. Her attitude could only be described as disinterested, very much in the vain of "put up to shut up" Although later on the general manager came to our table to offer apologies and a 50% discount voucher for another visit, although this did not materialise. I realise this is an average afternoon tea at an average price, but I would have expected staff to have warned customers on arrival that there could be some disruption due to building works and maybe the offer of a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to compensate, but this was not to be the case. Sorry Alfreton Hall your customer service Is appalling , maybe management need to be looking at the afternoon teas and it's customers more seriously. An experience not to be repeated.

We started with a glass of sparkling wine which could have been chilled more but was palatable. My wife opted for tea which came in an interesting pot and I had the coffee which actually was so weak as to have to no taste. The food arrived on a large 3 tiered cake stand and comprised sandwiches (crusts removed), cakes, pastries and two scones. There was also a container with a huge amount of whipped cream and an even bigger mound of jam. Sandwich fillings were basic but tasty enough and the cakes were fine but nothing special. I loaded my scone with jam but made little inroad into the mound! Service was fairly efficient and friendly. All in all a pleasant afternoon.

Booked the experience through a Groupon deal and for the price paid well worth the price charged. The hall is not the easiest place to find as the drive entrance has various buildings hiding it, but as you pass these the countryside opens up and you enjoy a wonderful view as you reach the hall. The staff were attentive and smartly dressed, the tea started with a glass of sparkling wine and included a selection of sandwiches and cakes, plus tea or coffee. The hall is geared for wedding and special occasion events, the decor tidy and relaxing making for an enjoyable hour or two whilst enjoying the afternoon tea. Not open in the evening.
