Went for lunch on Saturday meeting up with family to catch up over a meal. Found it on Google and went off the reviews, an unfortunate mistake. Set in a nice location a lovely looking old building that has been well set up as a small restaurant. Drinks were fine although on the fist attempt one was forgotten and an incorrect drink brought later on when ordering another round one was forgotten altogether but by that point reminded the server and asking for it just wasn't in anybody as we'd had the food. The menu, make sure you don't look at the hotel one by accident it will give you a false sense of quality. Personally I had the stake pie and chips with veg and gravy. Cooked throughly everything seemed straight out of a supermarket freezer section save the gravy which I dought was even bisto. Others got through and I'm afraid I have nothing more positive to share from them. As convenient and nice as it seems we will not be returning.

This is a great place to eat if you want something close to your hotel. The staff were really friendly and attentive. The menu has limited choice but the food was good and well presented. Prices are slightly expensive for what you get but overall we would definitely eat here again.

It was okay. We visited Alexander's as we were staying at the castle green hotel. The pub is a very quaint little stone building set in the hotels grounds and is nice country and cosy inside. However, on our visit the place was severely understaffed, we waited an hour and a half for starters (which was just bread and oil) then a further half hour for the mains. Food was ok, average quality so pretty overpriced for what it was. Staff tried to do their best with the situation and gave us some discount but a 2 hours wait for average food meant the evening was disappointing. Would be ok on a less busy day of you just wanted a quick bite, but nothing to write home about.

Every year 8 of us meet for lunch We all went to school together many moons ago. We started meeting when we all reached 50 we are now celebrating our 80th birthdays and we have tried numerous places for lunch . Last year we came to Alexander’s and enjoyed it so decided we would come again this year. Again it didn’t disappoint. The waiter was a lovely young man who informed us we could have smaller portions if we wanted. Most of us opted for the smaller ones and there was ample on the plate. I had the beef it came with 1roast potato mashed potato, carrot and swede, parsnips broccoli and cauliflower and Yorkshire pudding and several slices of beef. The only thing was that the broccoli and cauliflower wasn’t cooked enough for me . Sticky toffee pudding to follow. All for £14.99 The whole meal (apart from hard veg) was delicious. See you next year

Very average food; roast turkey was bland, broccoli was undercooked, roast potatoes had zero crisp. Nachos were tasty but the portion was tiny and the dish they use for serving is a silly shape so barely any of the nachos actually have cheese on them. Very slow service despite the fact that the place was practically empty. Board games kept the kids happy.

Nice little dining establishment. We had the soup of the day, and it was beautiful. As far as pub grub goes, this was perfect. My partner had the gammon, and I had the chicken and mash no complaints with neither choice. I was 56 quid for 2 well-made starters, 2 large and cooked perfectly dinners and two drinks. No complaints.

We pop in here for a drink from time to time and always like it. We decided to walk in and have a Sunday roast for a change and it didn’t disappoint. One beef roast and one pork and both were perfectly cooked and we both really enjoyed our meal. We even sat outside to finish our drinks as the sun came out.

The atmosphere is delightful. Alexander's is quite unlike anywhere else I've eaten. Although a limited menu, it is excellently executed. Portions are generous and although prices may seem more expensive than your average pub grub at first glance of the menu, once served you won't be disappointed. The staff are very attentive.

It is fantastic that there are a few vegan options which shows how they are changing with the times. The burger was delicious but the butternut squash dish was sloppy and looked more like thick soup, which was on its own with no rice; this was my only gripe, but hats off anyway for offering vegan! The place is very friendly, service very good and location fantastic. Prices a little high but you get this in Kendal.

It was okay. Stopped by for quick bite to eat. Had a burger and chips. The portion was very large so no complaints there, I felt there was a lot of fat dripping from the burger, too much to be honest. I felt very greasy by the end of it. Chips were tasty. Salad was ok. Service was a little slow, took around 20 mins for our order to be taken. Lunch didn't take too long to cook. Maybe another 20 mins for it to be served. That quick bite took around an hour. Could of been better I feel for the price.

Food was very good at alexanders , service was good , but over priced wine can buy the wine we had in the shops for £4.99 they charged £20 I know they have to put the price up a bit but that is 2much and the mattress was really hard in the castle green hotel hardly no sleep at all , probably wouldn't go again , last couple of times has been the same , what it needs is a medium firm mattress as well so guests can choose.

I ate here, with two colleagues, twice recently. The first evening, my haddock was slightly disappointing - the batter was a bit stodgy for my taste, but my colleague's meals were excellent. The next evening I had salmon with new potatoes and veg and it was delcious. The staff friendly and attentive without overdoing it. I would certainly eat there again. I'm assured by my colleagues that the haddock is usually as good as the rest of the menu.

No stars (but that's not possible...)! 12 tables and not full but where we got our drinks in <10 minutes and placed our order just for a simple main course, they managed to completely ignore us until we alerted them 55 minutes (!!) later. They apologized and told they were busy (which was not true), later they changed that in something with a printer that wasn't working. Even after the 55 minutes it still took them 20 minutes to get us our food... Food quality was average at best. They did make it up to us by not charging us, but the evening was ruined and I'd rather had paid for nice food instead

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! Just had one of the worst dining experiences of my life, for a 30th birthday celebration courtesy of Lucy’s on a plate Ambleside! I honestly don’t know where to begin with this, maybe the appalling manager, slow service, bland overpriced food, not sure really but here we go. So we email this place the previous evening to our booking enquiring about a reservation for 2 people, we heard nothing until WE contacted them around 3/4pm the following day to be told “oh yes im just on with the bookings now and was just about to call you”which I didn’t believe but that’s fine, on the phone I explained it was a special 30th birthday meal for my partner as they asked were we celebrating an occasion. We were looking forward to our meal and arrived slightly early about 6.20 for a 7pm table, we thought we could maybe have a drink if they had a bar or somewhere to wait for the table. We were shocked to see the manager fumbling around with his booking sheet to clearly see he didn’t have our names down, just to write us in in front of him, he then makes a joke saying “that would of been embarrassing”yeah it certainly would have been embarrassing so not a great start at all, we sit down to read the menu and notice some essay on the front talking about the guests and what they were celebrating, no mention of my partners 30th birthday just a half arsed after thought saying hello Andrew and Rhianne, as we were clearly forgotten about. After looking at the menu we decided to go for 2 pork belly starters £12 each and lamb shank £28 and lamb tagine £24, starters came out pretty quickly around 10-15 mins so great, unfortunately BLAND!! The apple puree could of been anything as there was no flavour at all, no sweetness to balance the dish just the flavour or pork and a little black pudding Bon Bon, BLAND! Then we wait for almost 1 hour, yes 1 hour for the main, asking the waiting staff how long, got told if it’s not here in 5 mins I’ll go and punch the chef, yes haha very funny but just get me my food I wasn’t up for jokes by this time, then the mains come, my lamb shank was dry had next to no sauce or should I say gravy at all, the mash was lukewarm the veg the same and very undercooked, I’m all for al dente but this just wasn’t and a piece of parsnip no bigger then your little finger, this place is a long way off fine dining! I asked for some more sauce and was brought a gravy boat of wishy washy gravy that they must use on every dish! Honestly very similar to a bisto gravy, where’s the lamb flavour or the reduced stock to coat the lamb shank, absolutely nothing! My partner said the lamb tagine was lukewarm again but after waiting an hour we were so hungry we just ate it, she said the cous cous was just bland and had nothing special about it, she said the cous cous from Sainsbury’s ‘food on the go’ was much nicer, why is this when we’re paying all this money? We also noticed there was no check back to see how we were enjoying the food as tbh they just weren’t bothered! When our plates were cleared(25 mins after we had finished) we were asked was everything ok, I said hmm yeah ok to which the waitress replied “ok yeah” great and takes the plates. This is where I would of informed the manager that someone was not very happy and suggest they go and speak to them! I was very reluctant to say anything because I’m aware I’m celebrating my partners 30th and didn’t want to make a scene, after such terrible service and food we just couldn’t order a dessert as we weren’t going to give these people my more of our money, we receive the bill at £115 for 2 starters 2 mains and 2 drinks each one of those was non alcoholic. Very overpriced for the quality you receive. Then to top the night off I go to pay, this is where the manger really shows his lack of experience, from me counting out the money to pay he never once asked “how was your meal” how did your partner enjoy her 30th birthday celebration” nothing! Didn’t even say enjoy your evening, honestly I recommend you research this place before going here as it’s beyond bad!

A very beautiful place with stunning views of Lake Windermere. The whole complex was so dreamy! the greenery was very well maintained. A big thanks to Tom and Dan who were such gems, friendly and attentive :) The interior was very classy however it is very dated, the room had cracks along the ceiling, cobwebs, creaky floors and bathroom overall wasn't clean. It definitely needs a revamp but everything else was great!
