What an amazing place. We have enjoyed a variety of meals here from bar food which is great value and generous portions to delightful Sunday lunch. The food is always delicious and fresh with a huge choice for everyone. They cater well for allergies and are accommodating to suit needs. Alongside the ample food choices there is a large range of drinks for everyone. The large beer garden is perfect place to enjoy summer drinks whilst the children play or to relax with your family dogs.

On TripAdvisor reviews I booked this pub for Sunday roast. Most certainly wasn’t disappointed. The staff are friendly, food extremely well presented, fairly priced in relation to portion sizes and scrumptious! We opted for a starter and main, to be honest, you don’t need the starter unless you’re famished! Piping hot plates with a generous serving of meat, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. A good selection of vegetables cooked to perfection and lashings of home made gravy. Would very much recommend.

Food was acceptable. The wait from order to food was too long not only for us but the people at another table, in a small uninspiring room. The young waitress was friendly but not the bar staff.

We booked a table for 6 for a family birthday celebration on Sunday 8 August for 6.30 Long wait for order to be taken, starters served and then 45 minutes between finishing starters and getting mains. My 9 year old niece was unable to eat her main course which arrived at 8.15 as she is usually eats earlier than this. Although the dishes were restaurant prices the food did not reflect this and the halloumi wraps two of us ordered were practically cold. No apologies were offered until I complained to the manager who deducted the price of the drinks from the final bill. We all felt disappointed especially one of my sisters who has been a regular visitor to this establishment. Needless to say we won’t be returning. Great pity as it’s a good location and the only inn/restaurant in the area.

The pub has had a major revamp, new owner. Decor very modern and tasteful but doesn't match the age of the pub. Very clean and excellent value for money, that is.... the room and the breakfast £80 for two people. Very good price. The room, very clean, tastefully decorated and very serviceable, however the only one item that was lacking was a mirror ( long length) in the bedroom. There is a mirror over the sink in the bathroom. Definitely need two mirrors especially if there are two staying in the room. The staff are very courteous and helpful. The downside to the pub is the evening meal. Very very disappointing. Waited one hour to be served, booked the table in advance for 4 of us. Menu limited and fussy meals. Not cheap. One person ordered a steak medium rare and it was actually rare when it arrived. A bowl of broccoli and carrots arrived for two men. Not enough veg, so asked for another bowl which they had no problem bringing out to us. Not much food and pricey with cheap quality steaks. My husband's was very grissley. He just ate it as he was starving by this stage and couldn't be bother with fussing. I chose the tikka masala with rice only. I didn't go for the half and half. Bad choice. Only one small mound of rice came out with a bowl of curry. Extremely bland and highly disappointing. Definitely no where near a chef's standard. Another person ordered the duck salad and there was no sauce offered, a dry salad!! When asked to bring a sauce out, there was no problem and a pomegranate sauce was brought out which satisfied my friend. Overall, we waited a long time between each course and it was unacceptable. Asked for a started too, croquettes only to be told five mins later they didn't have any. We asked for one plate of Salmon Ribbons. That arrived, the salmon was raw and the biscuit underneath it couldn't be cut with a knife, that was sent back and my husband didn't bother to order a starter after that disaster. That was again disappointing as we waited an hour by that stage to be served. Overall, stay at the pub as the breakfast was fantastic. No complaints there. Room was really good. Don't bother eating the evening expensive meal.

We stayed for 2 nights as a base for the car rally experience which is just up the road - we didn’t arrive until near 10pm first night but food finished at 9 and really all you could have was peanuts or crisps - stupidly we forgot to order the following night also as got a bit ‘side tracked’ anyway bit of a Waldorf salad moment as there is nowhere near to eat so make sure you have some food if driving as far we were - I would love it if the pub had a refrigerated unit on the bar just offering simple sandwiches etc for people arriving late on - I’m certain they would be consumed in no time - all In all nice people run the place and the cooked breakfast was excellent !!! One thing I want to mention is that there was only 1 real ale - but would suggest keeping some other bottled options in the fridge as the ipa was a bit bland - Belgium beers are always a nice back up option I think ok - thanks though overall a pleasant stay in lovely Wales !!!!! 😊

Ignore the 1980’s decor and chintzy surroundings!! This is a lovely traditional pub with great ales and a good selection of gins and nice wines. Makes such a lovely change from the chain pubs!! The food was lovely and probably one of the nicest pub burgers I’ve eaten for years. We were glamping just down the road at Cledan Valley and were recommended a visit!! Nice small menu with Specials boards above the bar. Went on a Thursday night at 6:30pm and it got pretty busy!! 6 main courses, large G&T, 3 pints of WPA and good old fashioned Banana split and Knickerbocker glories for 3 for £83 Thanks Mel (chef) and your helpers!! Went back to camp, with full bellies and a promise to return next time we are back camping!! May even come for breakfast at Cafe Aleppo next time too!!

The evening meal menu at the Aleppo Merchant Inn provides a wide range of choice from bar snack-type snacks to top quality dinners. Most tastes are catered for. The venue itself is relaxed and cosy in a beamed 17th century building. However we were sadly let down by the time we had to wait for our meal after ordering. After nearly an hour we had to go and ask how much longer it would be. It was supposedly the next one to be served and finally arrived about 15 minutes later. A terrible shame that such a first class meal should be spoilt in this way. If you don't mind a wait then go for it, but not if you are in a hurry!

There were six in our party. The order was taken but the service was a bit hit and miss, there was a considerable wait for some of the food. When the food was served it was very good.It appeared that there weren’t enough staff to deal with the number of customers this particular evening. Perhaps getting staff is an issue for the landlord in that location. I would go back to The Aleppo Merchant again when I’m next in the area.

Situated on the A470 roughly half way between Machynlleth and Newtown, the Aleppo Merchant hotel/pub in Carno makes an ideal base to explore this relatively quiet, beautiful and unspoilt part of Wales. I have stayed at the Aleppo Merchant before and particularly enjoy exploring, by car or on foot, the area south of Carno including the area around Llyn Clywedog, Staylittle, Dylife and Glaslin. The Glyndwr's Way runs through this are with lots of parking areas and opportunities for stunning circular walks. The Aleppo Merchant offers clean comfortable accommodation, good food, friendly staff at competitive prices so can't think of anything not to like about it and will look forward to my next visit.

I always tell the truth on this site and if that upsets then so be it. I am always surprised when I am disappointed with a place only to see a couple of people agreeing with me and I wonder what other people are measuring the establishment against. I can only say that my family and I stayed for the weekend in a local holiday park and decided that we would visit this pub/restaurant for a few beers. It was literally only a mile and a half away from where we were staying. Although the outside of the pub tells you this is a lovely old building with a great deal of history, the interior is like a 1970's working men's club. The décor is awful with no character at all. We found the barman to have about as much personality and interaction as a dead mouse. Tried to make conversation a few times but just got grunts !! we decided that we would have more fun and atmosphere back at the camp site so that's what we did. We also booked this pub for our Sunday lunch. They got the seating wrong so we were left to put that right ourselves as we were a big party. The food was average and nothing to sing about and the service was just OK !!!!! the place lacked atmosphere for us, though of course the locals were having a better time and were being chatted to. If you are the only pub in the village close to holiday sites then you really should do more to welcome your guests.... when we return to the camp site we most certainly will not be visiting this unfriendly place again !!

Went with my parents and daughter for evening meal. Took a good 45 minutes to arrive. Service - when we had it - was polite but not exactly warm. No checkback after delivering main course, which was a shame as i was given pork belly in a mustard sauce instead of the mushroom sauce advertised and ordered. Mum enjoyed her steak and mushroom pie, and even though they gave me wrong food it was delicious. (I didnt want to wait another 45 minutes for them to change it, neither did i want to go looking for staff to request it). I wont be returning.

Have enjoyed good meals at the Aleppo over the years but recently have been disappointed with the quality. On last visit had to request a replacement pint of Guinness that did not taste right (and I do know my Guinness). This was changed with no apology offered or word spoken. Then the gammon steak arrived. Small, cremated and hardly edible. Didn't feel like complaining again so didn't. Wife enjoyed her meal (braised beef) and I have enjoyed several meals (including gammon) here in the past. So, please, try to be consistent, and a little more humble when that pint happens to be flat! Will give the Aleppo a miss for a while and visit our other favourites when traveling the length of the A470.

Visited at the beginning of June 2014 as we were staying in self catering accommodation nearby. Dined in the restaurant on three occasions during the week. The food, was plentiful, well cooked and presented. Service was fair and the restaurant not busy. The menu had sufficient choice options considering the overall size of the establishment. The one disappointment for us was that some courses were not available on every occasion we dined. it was amusing to start with but became a bit of a disappointment so much so that we moved on after three instances of this happening. Landlord said that problems with a new menu being introduced was the cause of our disappointment but when we were informed that he could not obtain supplies of lamb shanks locally, (he could only get them from AUSTRALIA) our incredulity was plain for all to see. I went off to sleep that night having counted 348 sheep on the farm we were staying at just 2 miles away !!!! A great pity as the food we were served was excellent

We only stopped here to be honest as we had driven 4 hours across the country, we were both starving and it happened to be the only place we spotted still serving food. Not some five star swanky gastro pub but good quality, honest pub food. A warm welcome, nice local beers, friendly atmosphere, and food that may or may not have been home cooked, but certainly tasted it. Reasonably priced, stock Mario's ice cream for those with a sweet tooth, with the obligatory flavour of the day (it was honeycomb when we went).I would say its a pub that does food and has rooms rather than a restaurant or hotel and as such dont expect silver service and indeed i stood for a couple of minutes at the bar to pay. However, we did say that if we drove home the same way, we would stay there over night as it just had the right feel - we ended up travelling home by a different route so cant comment on the rooms, but for a stop over with good food and beer, try it.

The restaurant at the Aleppo Merchant seems conflicted as to whether they are actually a restaurant or a pub. There are menus and waitress service to take order and deliver the meal but after that, forget it! We were never offered and, as a result, didn't bother with dessert. We were only able to order coffee by chasing down a bar tender and, even then, had to wait for her to finish chatting with a local before she deigned to serve us. We then went through a similar routine to get a bill.Another minor irritation, having ordered a salad, I was told that there were no salad dressings available just oil & vinegar on the table. Turned out the vinegar was malt vinegar... for a salad??!!!

Disappointed. Couldn't go inside because we had a dog. Only non-dairy milk available was oat and cold - so no hot chocolate or lattes or cappuccinos. I asked if it could be heated up but apparently it couldn't. It was a very cold day and we had to sit outside because we had the dog with us. After having read the reviews for this cafe I had great hopes but I was sadly let down.

Travelled from south wales on our only child free weekend to recieve a terrible service! Arrived at 3:30 and the hot tub was freezing cold from the moment we got there! Tried to blame us for taking the lid off that it wasnt warm! Bed was unmade with no bottom sheet. Did not recieve an email with terms and conditions about bbq’s on the grass which id say having signs for people to see no bbq’s on the grass would be more obvious! Tried to fine us 100£ for the grass and 200£ for leaves being in the hot tub when i dont understand how you can avoid that if your in the hot tub most of the day/night with trees surrounding your pod! Just another excuse! We didn’t get the chance to use the hot tub! Filled us with excuses from the moment we got there promised the hot tub would be warm by 9 and then it went to theyll empty and refill with warm water instead, but that didnt happen! Also ignored any repsonsibility to answer our questions on when the hot tub would be useable! Could have saved ourselves £120 and stayed at home in our garden! Our third stay there and thats our thanks! Would not recommend or return!
