Albion Cafe in Hackney

Most of the review here tell the same story, all bark no bite. The setting is pleasant, staff are nice enough but the food is bang average & doesn't represent good value in my opinion. There are likely better options locally. I'm told pre-refit it was better? Buttermilk chicken was a redeeming factor but really only took this place from a 2 to a 3 star job.

As regulars to Albion cafe we were excited to return to the refurbished cafe now known as the Boundary. When we returned we found the deli was no longer there and the packed cafe we once knew replaced with a very empty and quiet upmarket bar. We decided to try it anyway, I asked if we can still get gluten free toast with the eggs on toast and sadly that’s been removed from the menu, so there’s no GF option for me any longer. The tea came with no milk and the orange juice was forgotten. The food was nice but served almost cold. The choice is now very limited in comparison. Albion was the best breakfast/brunch in London prior to the takeover and we were regulars when ever in London. Sadly the new Boundary venue doesn’t even come close in my opinion and won’t be returning as regulars. Looking for new breakfast location in London 🙁

We went here at sunday lunchtime - surprisingly, it was not busy. There is relatively small but interesting menu. The four of us were all pleased with our choices and everything was well cooked and well presented. The service was friendly and efficient. They accept dogs. We would definitely go back here -having been refurbished recently everything is fresh, clean and very appealing.

We enjoyed our meal here, I had a chicken breast burger, my friend had a steak sandwich - both very satisfying. The sweet potato wedges were really good and don’t miss the chocolate brownie and ice cream! We were sat by the exit door which was both cold and drafty, but managed to get re-seated so no problem. We had to order by scanning a QR code, I had a few issues with the payment but mastered it with the help of my friend. This could be an issue for some, but I will definitely be going back!!

Great food and coffee. We also tried the bloody mary's - delish! Only complaint was my mushrooms on toast, while tasty, was quite small; my husband's full English was great (and a good size so I could steal a sausage!).

A very expensive breakfast when It was clear the eggs and mushrooms had been precooked as they arrived barely lukewarm on the single slice of sourdough. Also Having to pay, including a tip when ordering isn’t appropriate especially when the delays were long And the service less than average

Found this restaurant by accident and exactly what was needed after a night out. Lovely staff, very smiley and kind, great atmosphere and the food is fabulous. Would totally recommend this eatery to all I had eggs Royale which were delicious and so fresh.

This area offers many interesting, friendly places to stop off for a coffee, Albion isn’t one of them. I can’t comment on the hot food, but I can say the coffee was distinctly average and the pain au chocolat was dry with chocolat barely detectable. They operate a different pricing system for eating in, and this wasn’t very apparent when I ordered and the counter staff didn’t ask. This didn’t deter the rude waitress who was quick to very loudly ask me to leave in case she needed the table, despite me explaining I had asked her colleague if I could use the seat. She didn’t listen so I was happy to move on to a better, more friendly location. If you’re stuck for somewhere to stop off, there are worse places, but there are certainly better

Thought would give it a try as seemed to have good reviews. In an odd place on a corner in a quiet residential road and parking was easy to find. Garden at the back was pleasant but table was wobbly and the plants were overgrown hanging over the table so moved inside. Sunday lunch looked fabulous when placed on the table but the cooking and flavours didn’t live up to its looks. The beef was perfectly cooked and the Yorkies delicious. I don’t like vegetables soft but all were practically raw. The pickled red cabbage was mushy and there was a very strong clover-type flavour that was either in the gravy or in the cabbage which made the whole dish unpleasant. Pinot Noir was excellent even if a tad warm. Lady behind the bar was welcoming when we walked in but after that the service waned. I think for the price one can find better food and ambience.

We had a quick visit. Eggs , toast and quick coffee. Manager in charge does not know what "sourdough" means :). Thanks God we had no allergies. Make sure you someone capable running the shift. the lady in question use to work as cleaner in a restaurant in Canary Wharf.

although I don’t leave reviews on many places, the service here was amazing especially the young lady (Gianina) who was very friendly and cheerful especially when holding a bizarre convo about the views - me and my wife were having. The food was amazing and the drinks came out very FAST! overall a great dinner and wonderful staff.

I popped in for a quick lunch as I was hungry and luckily passing by. I never been to this place before but I will definitely go back. I have had Chicken Caesar for my lunch, one of the best salad I ever had, the chicken was very guicy, just perfect cooked, you could tell the chef knows his onions when we talk about Food. The staff was very halpful and friendly. I definitely recommend this place!

We came for a meal and had a wonderful evening ,Gianina looked after us from the minute we arrived. We never had an empty drink and food was brought out at the right time. 100% recommend and if you get Gianina as a waitress you are winning! Thank you. :)

My husband and me were just passing by and decided to come in and have a coffee. The atmosphere was fine and the smell of the food was very appealing but, we had to deal with a manager called " Ani" with no education at all. We were trying to explain to her , we only wanted a coffee and go and she was telling us off; not listening to us and inviting us to leave because we were not going to have any kind of food. This was a very weird experience, and a very disrespectful one . My husband could not articulate a word and I just decided to leave without any more words with this kind on unprofessional and disrespectful "manager"?. We are not coming back again.

My daughter was treating me to a night out and we had booked at Dishoom opposite, but mixed up the times - we would have had to wait for an hour, so popped into the Albion opposite. Very basic comforts in the restaurant but a half decent Negroni and a decent IPA, spiced chicken wings, scotched quail eggs and burgers later - all very good indeed. Really friendly and quick service to boot! I so would like to be able to specify a rare burger but............

We were sat in the outside area for the afternoon in the walk in service. After an hour and a half we are told to leave very rudely. After explaining that we wanted to be there for the evening, we were very abruptly told to leave due to the fact there were walk ins. I can’t exaggerate how rude the staff were. It’s actually shocking how me and my friend were spoken to.

Popped in to purchase some bread for lunch. I picked a half mixed olive baguette and got charged £4.50! Seriously?! Better bakers in London charge half the price for a full size baguette. You really need to address your pricing as ASAP!

Food: Breakfast was smashed avocado on sourdough with two soft poached eggs. Delicious! I went back the next day for more!Ambiance: pleasant feel to inside and outdoor seating for COVID rules. Service: I had a problem when I visited the first time, for afternoon tea, but the Manager and Assistant Manager reached out, invited me back, listened to the problem and looked after me royally. I was impressed. Thank you!

Abitando vicino l'abbiamo provato per una prima colazione, optando per il loro ottimo English Breakfast che ti fa arrivare tranquillamente fino a cena senza pause intermedie. Un locale a Shoreditch da prendere in considerazione anche per un pasto veloce tipicamente inglese. La bakery interna sforna il pane utilizzato e i dolci presenti in menù e che si possono anche comprare nel piccolo shop interno. Frequentazione giovane, non lo consiglierei per cena. Aperto dalle 8 alle 22. Prezzi da Shoreditch...

Food: Cream tea: scone, clotted cream, english breakfast tea. it was a nice cup of tea but no clotted cream!!Service: nobody warned me the cream had run out - butter isn’t the same! And they offered no discount. I had to ask why it was missing when it came to the table. The waiter who served me didn’t even bother to come and apologise. He walked past me several times. I felt cheated and let downAmbience: sitting in a quiet cobbled street is pleasant

Wir sind zufällig nach dem Schlendern durch Brick Lane in das Restaurant gesessen. Der Avocadosalat mit Süßkartoffeln war fantastisch und der frisch gepresste Saft ebenso. Kann es nur weiterempfehlen!!

My company just moved to the area and it's quickly become our go to for pastry/coffees in the morning and lunch. Thanks to the manager (I think her name was Vicky?) - you'll be seeing a lot more of us!

I sorely missed Albion during lockdown. Me and my partner are so happy the friendly team are back! A morning must visit spot for breakfast and brunch - especially to sort yourself out when hungover at the weekend :)

Host (lady with pink hair) was very rude. Left a sour taste in my mouth, won’t be back. Though it’s a decent place to sit and have a drink.

Hace unos años, me detenía aquí para comprar cruasanes para llevar a la oficina a desayunar. Estaban deliciosos en aquel entonces.Los pasteles ahora se guardan en un estuche extraño donde si levanta la tapa, los pasteles pueden caer directamente sobre la mesa. Los cruasanes son tan rancios que probablemente podrías golpearlos sobre la cabeza de alguien para causar un trauma contundente.Si está buscando pasteles, simplemente vaya al tesco a 100 m de distancia y obtenga un producto de mejor calidad por la mitad del precio.

It’s a hoppin’ place for Sunday lunch! Packed and noisy but fun ambiance and charming host. The scones are a small meal!

Very friendly and accommodating restaurant across the road from the ever popular somewhat 'arrogant' establishment.Breakfast is superb, I would recommend the Albion Benedict muffin. Our waitress Simiorina was both attentive and efficient. All the staff are friendly and you can tell that the restaurant operates smoothly like a well oiled machine. Prices are very reasonable (around £15 pp inc VAT and service), food quality is superb, service excellent. Not a lot more to add really, a no brainer, can't wait to go back.

Pedí el desayuno vegetariano y no podía creer lo que veía por el triste desayuno que me sirvieron. Tenían la mejilla para servir frijoles horneados en un tazón del tamaño de un dedal y tuve que devolverlo ya que todo estaba frío. 11 para el peor y más triste desayuno, no volveré.

Came here for Saturday brunch, vibe was good and lively but the food was terrible.Ordered the chicken burger which had no flavour whatsoever and even worse, was undercooked so couldn’t even eat it. My friend had the salmon bagel and it was rock hardAnd our side portion of chips had about 3 chips each! Will not be going back - avoid if you can!

great fish and chips, we were invited by family for a traditional English meal, fish and chips, with fish in beer batter, chips perfectly cooked with the traditional mushy peas. The meals are served up on large plates so there is no need to have a starter, it will be too much for some.

This was my first visit to the Albion- the food was exceptional and the waitress was very pleasant. The prices were great for the portion sizes and very well seasoned.

I've been wanting to visit Albion for a while, after wandering past several times in summer and seeing people outside eating impressive-looking brunch plates.

We were a group of 8 eating dinner.

Delicious vegetarian good - great vegetable soup and lovely spicy sweet potato dish. Cozy and spacious setting, slow service.

Had lunch here today at this busy cafe. We ordered starters and mains but unfortunately and bizarrely everything came together, including one of the starters which was wrong. We kept the fish and chips which were pretty much ok. Would have given a lower mark if the waitress wasn’t so apologetic about it.

I enjoyed the Albion Benedict. Customer service at it’s best right in the moment you step in, our waitress Simiorina helped us with recommendations, after breakfast we enjoyed the scones which were lovely. I will definitely go back! Highly recommended!

What an awesome spot. Had a wonderful breakfast here and their Albion Royale was to die for. Staff was wonderful and very attentive even though the place was packed. Will be back for their Sunday roasts!

Arrived with the restaurant quite busy and was received by the manager which promptly got us a table. Immediately water on the table and had this wow feeling. And I was right, throughout the all meal and deserts after we experienced a great attention and professionalism from the staff and the manager. It is amazing to have a relaxed meal with such a great food and service. Definitely recommend this place.

To echo a vast number of reviews on here, the service was shocking, I had to ask for additional items 3 times, my apple juice congealed at the bottom, and the waiter got my husbands order wrong (he didn’t bother to write it down). Complained to management at the end (I observed the waiter explaining we were not happy and he mocked ‘blah, blah, blah). So unprofessional. Won’t be back and advice others to find much better establishments around the area.

Nos encontramos con Albion cuando buscábamos un lugar para tomar una bebida caliente rápida después de nuestra comida en otro lugar. Pedimos dos tés de desayuno con leche de soja. Nuestro pedido llegó con leche de vaca y dos tazas sucias, pedimos leche de soja tanto al camarero como a la camarera, la camarera regresó con más tazas sucias (que se veían igual que el primer lote) y leche de soja, pero ella cambió el tazas de nuevo cuando se le preguntó. No hubo disculpas de ninguna de las personas que trabajaban allí, luego descubrimos que lo que se suponía que era el té del desayuno era de hecho Earl Grey (que sabe bastante mal a menos que ames a Earl Gray ...). Terminamos saliendo ya que ya nos habían hecho sentir una molestia al señalar los otros errores, definitivamente nos sentimos incómodos y no volveremos aquí. ¡No estoy seguro de cómo arruinaron un pedido tan simple!

Nice café, with lots of outdoor seating. Menu is mostly sandwiches and salads. We ordered chicken and avocado sandwiches and they would have been pretty good but they put way too much mayo (and butter). Service was ok.

Came here for dinner as all other places in the area were busy - very average food, and looks more like a day diner than a place for dinner.

We had breakfast at The Albion every morning whilst staying at the Boundary project and were impressed with the fast and friendly service. The full Albion breakfast was one of the best fry ups we have had in a long time. On other days we also tried the Eggs Benedict, the breakfast omelette and the Albion bap. All were very tasty but the cooking of the eggs was variable and it was a bit disappointing not to have any runny yolk in some of the poached eggs.

I used to frequent Albion when I lived in London, so when I visited recently was excited to be staying within walking distance. I really shouldn't have been, it was like another cafe!

Albion is a bit of an instant classic. Right in the heart of Shoreditch, Albion is equally suited for business meetings as a relaxed lunch or coffee and laptop work session. Food was tasty if a bit rich. I enjoyed it

I ordered the beef stew & dumplings for lunch as a main course (£13.50) as this is traditionally a hearty dish. Outrageously small portion that wouldn’t feed a 2 yr old. Appreciative that they offered me some compensation but they really need to review their portion sizes to give customers value for money and not leave them hungry.

Tuvimos una agradable camarera escocesa que nos atendió y fue muy agradable. Esperamos un poco en la comida pero estaba ocupado. Desafortunadamente, alrededor de 1/3 de la comida encontramos un largo cabello negro. Finalmente, recibimos la atención de un miembro del personal, no se disculpó y nos preguntó si queríamos que se reemplazara la comida. ¡Sí! Comida de reemplazo también tomó algún tiempo. Llegué al Albion y me saludó un gerente que hizo todo lo posible por sentarnos en una mesa encantadora junto a la ventana. Ella nos hizo sentir como en casa y no podría haber sido más atento.

Heerlijk zaakje voor lunch en diner. Druk maar snelle bediening. Aanrader de soep met een broodje voor de lunch. Dagsoep met een heerlijk broodje ham of groente. Ik had een bloemkoolsoep (duidelijk niet uit een pakje) en een broodje humus met gegrilde groente.

Lekker tentje om even te ontsnappen aan de toeristen rush op Baker street. Prijzen zijn conform Londense standaard, maar een aardige lunch - fish en chips - heb je voor 13 euro. Kwaliteit van de maaltijd viel mee. Het is gezellig druk en het personeel is vriendelijk. Schone toiletten is ook altijd fijn. Ook voor de glutenvrije eter een prima optie

We found this place on Sunday after spending a day in a flower market. Restaurant was buzzing and seemed really busy as there was quiet a queue for the table, nevertheless hostess found us a table pretty quickly so we didn’t need to wait for too long. Food was great, I particularly enjoyed my bubble and squeek. Even though restaurant was very busy, service was excellent,very attentive and professional.Nothing was too much trouble. Definitely coming back for more!

Simply put, food was good, service was terrible. Came here Sunday afternoon not even busy had to call waiter number 1 over to take hour order. Our coffees came out with our food luke warm. No server came over to check with us if our food and drinks were ok. Called waiter number 2 to ask for the bill after waiting for over 20minutes for someone to clear our plates. Waiter number 3 brings over the bill request service charge and coffee to be removed as they were not satisfactory and tasted weird with almond milk. The waiter doesn’t even ask why and gets it removed. Ask to split the bill and what the final place was waiter number 3 rudely replies “you figure it out I don’t have a phone to calculate!” What service do you call this? Will certainly not be returning!

Slow service but great food. The tumeric latte with almond milk was great. Dont mind ordering normal coffee though, the taste was not plesant. Will come back for the poached egg though.

Le pain est délicieux par contre le thé est très basique et à mon avis bas de gamme, dommage car le cadre est sympathique.

ショーディッチのど真ん中という立地で、レンガ造りの外観がシックなオールデイカフェ。季節のモダンブリティッシュ料理が楽しめます。家具や照明、ナイフやフォークにいたるまで、ほぼ全てがイギリス製。訪問したタイミングは、自家製のパンやスイーツが焼きあがった時間で、おいしそうな香りが店内いっぱいに広がってました。入り口付近では、オーガニック栽培の野菜や手作りのジャム、紅茶などローカルの魅力がたっぷり詰まったグロッサリー類も販売。小ぶりなサイズ感のものが多いので、おみやげにもぴったりです。

Always bad service here. Slow, get orders wrong, sullen staff. food is great it's just a shame the waiting staff are not up to scratch.

Spending a day together in Shoreditch pretending to be hipsters rather than sad middle aged marrieds up from the shires, we planned a food based day around Shoreditch. Looking at reviews we'd planned to go to Dishoom fancying a spicy brunch, but underestimated its popularity - 30 minute wait by 11 on Saturday. Book if you want to go there. Like many Dishoom rejects we wandered over the road to Albion where tables were available, as many others did after us (they must pick up a lot of business this way)

I've been to Albion a few times, it used to be one of my favourite restaurants in London.

Most places in this neighbourhood are trying too hard to be cool. I would suggest they could already improve greatly by training their staff how to remember orders. Our waiter came back to our table 4 times to check our order and still forgot one side order. Food was ok. Portobello mushroom side order was a joke £4.50 for two really small mushrooms. The sweet potato and spinach dish had two leaves of spinach in it. If they had run out they could at least admit it. I know almost everywhere in London includes service charges but this was one that we really should not have had to pay. Every time we needed something we had to get the attention of a staff member they were all over the place and not paying attention to the tables. Thumbs down.

We were looking for some where, no reservation, in Shoreditch and several places had queues an hour plus. We stumbled across the Albion and it was the best find!

I got to the place incidentally with a friend and we were very happy for that stop. We had a delicious brunch, served by a kind and very helpful waiter in a pretty relaxed environment, despite lunch time and its usual congestion. Salad was well dressed, though portion was not exciting, and drinks were in line with expectations.

Nice ambience and comfort food. We had the nightly special which included a glass of wine. Bill came charging wine as extra. Sorted out but waitress didn’t really care much.

Agradable y con un lugar concurrido para pequeña tienda independiente pan etc. Desayuno 8 - 10 punds platos un plato, pan, etc. no incluido. Buen café en grandes ollas esmalte. Bonito plato de patatas dulces. Los huevos estaban demasiado flojo y Benedicite un poco frío, no tan agradable para conseguir una sensación de "huevo crudo sobre el jamón".

Hermoso lugar para el desayuno o el brunch de la calle principal en Shoreditch. A un tiro de piedra de Arnold Circus y práctico para Columbia Road Flower Market. La comida era encantador, bien preparada, sabrosa y fresca. Personal amable y educado. Sin embargo, no parecía querer liquidar la factura. Vimos como diner después de la cena tuvimos que encontrar un miembro del personal para pagar por lo que podrían pasar. Quizás un poco más de atención y que no habría más estrellas en la revisión.

We stopped by here for a quick tea after dinner so can't talk about the food here, but it's a nice place if you want to sit down for a chat with a friend on a Friday evening where you don't have to shout your head off to be heard. We got a nice table outside where you can watch the world go by in Shoreditch.

Tow of us had dinner here. It was early evening and even though the place wasn't busy - the service was slow, but friendly. We weren't in a hurry so slow was OK for us on this occasion. Starters were both OK - prawn cocktail done straight down the line, and whitebait. House wine was OK too, a viognier. Main courses - we had kedgeree and a jerusalem artichoke vegetarian risotto, and neither were up to much. They were both pretty bland, and the chef opted for a big portion at the expense of decent flavours. I saw other diners handing back plates of the same choices unfinished too. £80 felt a bit steep.

Hi, I am the guy who ran way without paying the £60 for that burnt seabass and burger from a supermarket. The rose was ok. Stop robing people.

We literally stumbled on this restaurant having parked nearby for a gig. Ther service was great and the food was very fresh and tasty. Well worth a visit.
