Akbars in Coventry

Edit : This place is closed now permanently. My full experience of Akbars. Please read through. Walk-in experience : Made us wait for 10 min in the lobby even though the table we booked was already free and ready. The staff called us out like this - "5 people, follow me!" when taking to table. The staff ordered this before we even sit - "We will not give any extra naan, chapati, curry once you place the order. You can only order once as we are very busy" Who would like to go to restaurant to be treated like this? Still, we had long day so we sit to eat. Food experience : It's not enough to just say that "taste of every item caters to British tounge". The food here has serious issues. 1. Too much food colouring (see the photos) . It's dark red in colour without any red chillies taste. 2. No water provided at table. (Find it in the photos if you can) 3. Peshwari naan had no dry fruits, Garlic naan had no garlic. But it was like Indian naan, so I give them a point for this. 4. In the name of mix raita, I got curd with salad topping. It is disgusting they call it as raita. 5. They missed the raita while writing order and later blamed on us that we didn't order it. 6. Served main course before starter. 7. Served raita after main course (after reminding thrice) I don't eat non - veg but my friends who went with me said this about non-veg 8. Portion of Akbars special biryani is 1/4 of any other place like Chennai dosa. 9. Starters are dry and hard to chew. It's disgusting. Please avoid this place, the service and food both are undesirable.

Well what can I say . Such good service from car park to seating and table service . Food was on point .Absolutely Fabulous. Waiters we're attentive . Quality was great . Atmosphere was buzzing . I'm definitely coming back and would recommend it .

The most fantastic curry restaurant ever food delicious always so tasteful and fresh atmosphere and staff all very friendly and greet you warmly every time you go, we have been going there for a number of years as a family of four and never had cause to complain. It's very sad news Akbars last night tonight, they are closing there doors after 34 years of fantastic impeccable dining. And I can't express the appreciation for the magnificent staff. Good luck in all your future endeavours. Will be truly missed by all. I have been going for over 10 years now. Will be very hard for any one to fill that space 😕 😪 goodbye 👋

Been here numerous times for food and it never disappoints. Great value and portion sizes, staff always look after us and decent selection or drinks.

went there last night with 3 family members ,superb evening had by all. highly recommend the naga chicken special (very hot) 9/10 D.F ...fabulous

Amazing food. Freshly prepared and great taste. We had Naga kebab and mutton kadai and chutney platter with cordial lemonade..Yummy taste!

Food perfect, service perfect, atmosphere perfect. We chose to eat an Indian "tapas" with a special Bhuna. A wonderful evening. Highly recommended.

We have been going to this restaurant for the past 8-9 months while working in the area, the best Indian I have eaten in, by far. Staff are brilliant and the service is great. Always packed on a Saturday night!

Have to blame google in the first place. I was searching for AKBAR'S Birmingham restaurant and Google showed this akbar's. We thought this restaurant was a franchise of Birmingham's AKBAR'S. But clearly this is not. Menu is totally different, and the food as well. Luckily food was not bad at all. We have enjoyed Naan's and chicken curry, but Biryani was very bad.

Unprofessional waiters with rude behaviour and very disrespectful attitude

Food was lovely restaurant very nice but the service was disappointing 😞 took to long to take order not a lot of room for food on table's staff not very friendly staff do not converse with you bit moody it seems

Service was friendly but sometimes a bit rushed. Had poppadoms then mains. These were not the most tasty, however, sweet and tomatoy but lacking spice. Rice was dry around the outside like it had been kept warm.

Had a great time this time last time and every time.

Booked a table for our sons 21st birthday meal and the staff was very welcoming and lovely….service was great the food was 10/10 ….they even brought the cake out and all sang happy birthday ! then gave him a birthday drink. They was brilliant we will definitely be back.

I'm not normally one to moan, but we went to akbars for a birthday celebration, we were sat at a 4 seater table for 2 people. Far to many staff who struggled to understand us for our drinks order, I had the tandoori king prawns as a starter it was tasteless only had 3 prawns which cost £10 definitely over priced. While eating our starters they brought out our main meals so they were rushing us taking our starters plates away from us as soon as we were taking the last bite, this was not on. Then when they brought the main meals out I had chicken tikka bati which was also testless yet again ,not once did any of the staff ask how was the food. We will never be going back there again flooding the place with staff does not make a good restaurant we felt we were being watched all the time could not relax cause they wanted you in and out as quick as possible, just one more thing my husband went to the toilet he said there way to small not enough room to swing a cat.

Had there been an option to rate this restaurant in negative, I would've rated this in negative. This place does not deserve any customers, they have a very sneaky way of looting their customers. They will charge for stuff which is not clearly written in their menu. Do not waste you time and money here. Instead of accepting or apologizing, they abused us.

A lovely meal to celebrate our anniversary. Service was lovely and attentive, but not overbearing. Will definitely be visiting again.

Food is good. Everything is good except the service is slow. Asking for same thing at least 4 different waiters/waitresses then you get water with ice ;) It gets busy on Friday evenings and that causes the slowness but I love this place . Food is good, parking is available for free and the staff is good too. Improve the service and would definitely get a 5 start rating.

Tasty Indian food. Especially kebabs and coconut Ice cream. Ambience is good. During weekends I would recommend reserving a table beforehand.

Be cautious of deceitful waiters who discreetly add unsolicited drinks and side dishes to your table, as this will significantly inflate your final bill. Additionally, be wary of undercooked meat and excessively priced side dishes. Overall, this experience deserves a total score of -5.

Very good service but I have had better curries from other places. Chips won't good quality seems they were cooked from frozen

Ambience is good. When it comes to food, Starters are so nice. Pampads are famous here. We ordered Lamb Biryani but it was just ok only. Mutton curry it was nice and with enough quantity. Prices are little high when compare to other restaurants. Overall its worth visiting.

I was here on a busy Saturday night with some friends. Although it was very busy (we had booked in advance) the service was excellent. One of my friends had specific dietary requirements that they happily met. I have had the same dish in several restaurants in the last few months but this was the best that I have had. No complaints. I plan to add this to my take-away venue list.

Beautiful restaurant with amazing food and service. Prices are very competitive but for the quality you're getting, well worth it. A special mention to Naz who made us feel so welcome. Will be back again.

Everything was good except the ambience. It's quite small place to seat and enjoy the meal. Food was delicious except the biriyani. Staff is excellent 👍

Come twice now from out of town and hands down best customer service I've ever receieved. They make sure you are well looked aftered and food is also amazing! Deffo would recommend this place

At first glance the staff was very approachable and friendly. But once we sat down they were very keen to have our orders when in all honesty we all needed a good 5 minutes to choose what we wanted. Then forgot to bring 1 main and rice. Once we have eaten they were very quick to want to clear up and get us out. Not very happy with the whole experience won't be returning. Disappointed

Best curry house in Coventry by far.

Great restaurant, lovely food and atmosphere

We ordered biryani, chicken Tikka and fish fry quantity of food is very less and the dishes doesn't taste good but ambience of the restaurant is good compared to other restaurants in Coventry. I don't recommend this restaurant.

This place used to be so nice 👌 but food wasn't nice all curry's looked the same!! Chicken was rubbery and staff were rude! For the amount they charge just expect better will not go again

I was the first time and I am disappointed, we waited a very long time for the first meal, I ordered shrimp with garlic price 16£ and I received shrimp in tomato sauce that I felt like I was eating soup in addition to 6 pieces of shrimp and a lot of onions, orders were also lamb curry which is not absolutely similar to curry it was another tomato sauce, we left hungry and disappointed, we did not order anything more, the food is not worth any price. Waiters stand over you, which does not give you free comfort.

After seeing some of the recent reviews on TripAdvisor I was a bit apprehensive about going to Akbars for the first time but it lived up to all of the excellent comments I had previously heard. The food and service were excellent. I had the chicken Bhuna and the meat was tender and succulent with amazing flavours and the portion size was good as I didn't manage to finish everything (even without a starter). The service was polite and helpful. I will definitely go back again. The only thing I didn't like was the coloured LED light strips around the glass panels in the bar area but this is just my personal preference. If I had looked at them any longer they would have given me a migraine and they didn't really fit looked a bit cheap compared with the rest of the decor. However, that is just a minor point and as we were seated away from these lights they weren't an issue.

Loved the food. Service on a Monday was still slow. Expected better... 4 stars because of the food 👍

Food was not nice. Lamb very chewy veg curry tasted sweet with no spice or salt. Nan was like a papa dom and chapati same. Wont go again.

I don't think the chef knows what Naans are ? They were very thick and hard to chew , left with jaw pain and the Currys were full of Pathaks sauce.

My Third visit I've eaten in on two occasions and had one takeaway they're doing something right because I keep coming back, the staff are very friendly and helpful, everything is great here, I've read some of the previous comments and can't understand the negative feedback, I discovered AKBARS in 2022 and have returned I. 2023, that must surely speak for its self, the food is very tasty I will be back again for sure and would highly recommend them.....

Food was lovely but the service was not great. We had different members off staff coming up to us every couple of minutes asking about drinks and whether we had ordered we didn't get left alone . As soon as we had finished our meal the table was cleaning and table cloth taken off which made us feel rushed to leave.

Been here for the 4th time in the last 12 months. Best indian in Coventry i believe. Food has been ever so tasty and piping hot. The waiters are friendly and helpful. I don't want to go elsewhere.

Very very disappointing.... food was lovely and can't complain however the service was horrendous, we were rushed in and out and wasn't a pleasant experience... we were rushed in and out so the table could become free for next paying customer, will definitely never return as seems like its all about the money.... I didn't even ask for the bill yet was randomly placed on table.... in and out within an hour and when I complained the waiter smiled and said sorry, not his fault but higher up unfortunately.

Gone downhill. Used to visit here many years ago. Their menu was extensive as expected..... But now its very very limited. The food all looked like it had the same base with slight differences between dishes. Basically it looked like we all had the same dish but we all ordered different. ( 11 people ) Service used to be sublime here but thats dropped off a bit too. Bar man was a tab rude and abrupt. Drink prices were a bit of an eye opener too. X1 coke X1 alcohol free cobra bottle of beer X1 malibu and orange £15 🤔 But on the plus side their mock tails were bloody lovely.

On first impressions it seemed lovely, we walked in and we given a table, the table wasn’t very comfortable and kind of stuck out where the staff and customers were in and out of the room so we asked if we could move to a booth and were told no. About five minutes later two men walked in and were seated at a table next to us at first but the manager clearly knew them well and they asked to be moved and he moved them to the booth we couldn’t have. Not very fair but ok. The spicy fish starter was dry chewy and stuck in your throat, wasn’t fresh at all and not eaten we had to share the chicken tikka starter. We were taking the last couple of mouthfuls when the waiters swooped in and started talking away our plates, didn’t even give me chance to put my fork down. The mains were equally as bad. I’ve never ever had Naan bread with the consistency of a popadom, it literally snapped to bits like an over cooked biscuit! We had two Naans and they were both the same. Vegetable balti was like slop. I was really disappointed tbh. And again were stood over by the waiters the whole time. Very uncomfortable dining, very rushed dining and I felt a waste of money. We won’t be retuning for sure.

Best food in the city! Cooked beautifully, service is excellent and the team really look after you. I go here often and am always impressed.

Use to be great, the last time we went there they had changed the menu and was so small, the serve was awful. Food wasn't food and when I mentioned it they weren't bothered

Had a really wonderful dinner here with colleagues. Service was super-friendly and the food was absolutely delicious, with generous portions. Really loved the decor, too.

The worst ever experience! We wanted to have some starters, drinks and extras. But they didnt allow us to make the order without ordering a main course. The waiter was so rude and disrespectful. And moreover, when we were speaking in English, he argued something in Hindi, which was not appropriate i guess.

I never write a review but feel so inclined to write this! Awful service, booked a table for 8.30 waited for 10 mins And rudely spoken to, told we just had to wait ! No apology, put other customers ahead of us even though they knew we were waiting. Far better curry places in Coventry, such as Delhi 76 or pickles ! Be warned !

Busy restaurant with pleasant staff. Didn't quite get our order right though and food was okay. Atmosphere was excellent and had a thoroughly good time.

Sadly had a very poor experience. Was charged extra, errors made in food order and when management approached and questioned was verbally abused. Clearly an independent family company that feel like they can talk and belittle people, as when questioned stated they will get business either way. Worse experience I have had at a restaurant at present. Like others have stated if you challenge them or even ask questions their attitude is poor.

Visited Akbars last night with family for my Dads 80th birthday. Excellent food lovely staff nothing to much trouble. Lovely touch they brought out a birthday cake singing happy birthday for my dad and offered us a free complimentary drink. Thank you Akbars for a wonderful evening

Without any reson they cancelled my bithday party booking. No call from them , just email only. Poor service

Aweful service, got short changed at the bar 2x and when the bill came it was wrong. We went as a large group and paid a deposit we were forced to pay for people who didn't turn up even though they had been notified in advance that the numbers had reduced. At no point were we informed we needed to pay for the people that had cancelled... I mean what the point of paying a deposit if that's the case... They didn't take the deposit off the bill, they also tried to add other peoples drinks to our bill which were ordered before any of our party arrived. Absolute shambles. Waited about an hour between courses and then a further hour for someone to sort out the bill we had to approach them 5 times to get the bill sorted and paid. My first and last time there

Excellent customer service and excellent food

Had a table booked to 10 but only 8 could attend, staff very quick to separate off end table in order to make more space for other customers.... However in the process the same staff the knocked over one of our drinks having created more space for more customers but leaving very little space in which to serve our table and this newly created small table! Also all drinks had been ordered and requested after first bearing seated but I had ordered a coffee, this took four repeated requests to arrive only after 50mins of waiting and all other drinks had been served 45mins before, the staff seemingly not capable or taking an order and checking items off as being fulfilled. We had booking for not long after they opened and the premises was almost empty. And even nearer the end of our sitting never saw maybe more than 30/40% utilisation so moving or tabels to creating more space for more customers and the poor service just don't seem productive?!? The food was pleasant enough but on the back of this group experience I'll not be choosing this venue again unfortunately. If only the staff had just paid more attention to the few customers they actually had in front of them instead or being on autopilot thinking of the next possible walk up customers who may or may not arrive?

Been going here for years, best curry place we have found in the area. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is incredible and never disappoints. My family and I love this place and the takeaway feels like you are still eating in the restaurant, amazing can't recommend more

Very tasty korma paneer (it's not on the menu but they do it very nice). Will come back again.

Food was lovely but they were so disorganised and the tables felt very cramped. They bought pints of soft drinks out for kids, one being only 3yrs old!

A range and variety of good curries, staff were all very welcoming and helpful. Service was fast and efficient. They also have a roof terrace area where they serve drinks and food.

We has friends visit us from somerset and decided to go out for a Curry. We came here and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent. friendly staff and the food was really good. Lovely comfortable seating with lots of space between tables. It was also very reasonably priced. We will definitely be coming here again.

Food was lovely although the service was very rushed, no time to digest, seating very close to other tables and very noisy. Maybe if we visit again it would be mid week when not so busy

Booked in for an early evening meal on our way home from a visit to the city centre. Haven't been here for a while and it was as good as we remember it. Will definitely return soon.

My husband and I were going to a show at the Albany and decided to have a meal before hand, after checking what was in the area we settled on booking a table with you, all I can say is why have we only just found you. Everything from start to finish was just amazing, the food, staff, the surroundings was just perfect. We couldn't finish our meal and asked if it would be possible to pick it up after the show, it was not a problem, can't wait to return for more of the same first class service. Keep up the good work.
