We live in Nottingham which has a distinct lack of good Egyptian food and being a mixed Egyptian/English family we really miss it. Whilst on short break in London we searched online for Egyptian food near our hotel and this place came up and we decided to give it a try. From the outside it is an unassuming backstreet takeaway, but they do have a small dining area in the basement. Don't be put off by the places appearance as the food is fantastic and such good value. I would say the kofta kebab is probably the best I have had in the UK and the lamb and okra was melt in the mouth. Salads also fresh and super tasty. Only tiny critisisam is that the rice was plain basmati and not Egyptian style. Wish we could have tried more things on the menu and will definitely be back next time we are in London.

Best houmus in London. All the meals for the 4 of us were excellent. The pigeon soup was unique - never tried it before, was very tasty. Even the plain boiled rice had a silky taste. The place doesn't look great from the street, but great value.

Koshary!!! Very yummy Koshary! The best in London! The garlic sauce and chilli sauce are delicious and the price is excellent value for money! £5 for a large box enough for two people! They sell baklava at a very cheap price too. Highly recommended!

I have been here many times with my daughter and we always have kosheri which is amazing .If you want the full Egyptian experience go down to the cellar room to eat your meal , the decor and lack of windows create an illusion you are somewhere in the middle east.

I use the Car Park opposite and finally decided to check it out. I didn't have a lot of time and ordered a Falafel. A few minutes later I was eating a decent falafel with a thick bread, salad and chill sauce. With a drink it came to £5 which is tremendous value. I loved the atmosphere even if though it was a quiet afternoon I always find middle eastern restaurants so welcoming. Am looking forward to my next meal.

I visit Egypt often & when home in London miss Egyptian food, especially fuul medames! Came across Ahl Cairo on the internet & visited there with my daughter. We ordered fuul, cheese fiteer, Sahleb & karkadeh & were not disappointed as all were delicious. Customers here are mainly Egyptian which is a good sign of the foods authenticity. Decor ok but more cafe than restaurant though this didn't bother us. The only quibble I have is the price of the drinks which could be a little cheaper but food is good value

Came with my partner on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm, and surprisingly it was rather quiet! It’s a small restaurant with seatings downstairs as well, 2 minutes walk from the tube station! The service was excellent and staffs were extremely friendly. I had a really great meal with my partner. Food was really great! I loved all the dishes, especially the meat fiteer and the rice dish that accompanied the lamb soup. Even though we didn’t order the pickled vegetables and baklava, it was added to our bill. However, the total bill was £20 for both of us, and I did not question too much about it as the pricing was fairly reasonable for the amount of food we’ve gotten. Would totally recommend this place. But I hope they would be more honest in their charging of dishes!

With Egyptian men sitting and standing around outside, the premises typically portrays an Egyptian scene. Looking like a takeaway at ground floor level, the small seated restaurant is accessed by a steep staircase into an air conditioned and window-less basement which provides a very authentic Egyptian atmosphere. Service is friendly and meals are individually prepared for guests. Food is excellent with generous portions giving good value.

I visited Ahl Cairo with a friend after searching for a while for an affordable Egyptian restaurant, and I must say its a true gem of London!! Firstly, the food is delicious (reminds me of traditional Egyptian food cooked by my family!). Large portions, affordable and such a wonderful selection (bamya and lamb stew is delicious, also kushary). We ordered quite a lot and it all came hot, fresh and looked soooooo good! And the prices were really very affordable considering its in central London - seriously worth it!! Secondly, the restaurant itself is initially quite unaffecting - when you first arrive it's just the takeaway section upstairs with one or two tables and a counter. Just ask to be seated downstairs where there is a wonderful seating area with a television (Egyptian and English tv) and of course the staple Egyptian flag! We went when it was really quiet which was really nice as we could sit for a long time and talk over delicious food. Finally, and probably the best part of my experience, was the absolutely delightful staff - never before have I received such a wonderful, warm and kind welcome to a restaurant! As soon as we entered we were greeted with warm smiles and felt like we were really welcome and at home. Throughout our meal we were mainly left alone after food was served (this is the Egyptian way, which is the best way!) and afterwards when we went upstairs to pay we stayed for an extra half an hour just having a wonderful conversation with the staff there! We spoke about Egypt and what it is like to visit there - seriously one of the best restaurants ever. I loved this place so much I fell head over heels - literally! I fell over right onto my backside outside because the pavement was slippery because of the rain lol, and a staff member came rushing out to help me up straight away. Honestly a fantastic place to go and I recommend to everyone :)

This café is on 2 floors. The basement is spacious, and the place to linger over a leisurely meal. The ground floor is casual, and where all the action happens. There is a charcoal grill and an oven for baking breads and pizzas. Wraps (in pita bread) are prepared at the bar. These can contain anything from freshly made superb falafels to wonderful salads to chargrilled kebabs, and combinations of these. The menu contains a wide range of Egyptian dishes, all at reasonable prices. A steady flow of customers order drinks (non-alcoholic) and food from the bar. The friendly staff appear to know many of the customers and took touble to make us, strangers, feel most welcome. We enjoyed falafels and also fried lamb's liver - delicately flavoured but cooked to perfection. Until visiting this place, we had always headed to Ali Baba's superb Egyptian restaurant in Ivor Place, but now I feel that our allegiance is wavering towards AhI Cairo.

Superb food and friendly staff, some of whom feel like family. We've been going for years and it's our go-to, always incredible dine-in/takeaway. We"re blessed that this gem of a restaurant is part of our community. Make it part of yours, too!

El diseño del café era bastante algo. ¡Las mejores notas! Buen comienzo para el día. El personal es amable y, como se puede ver en el diseño, se ocupan de su café.

One of the better meals at this traditional favorite in Mayfair. The food was well-prepared and presented nicely on this occasion.

Last evening we went as a group friends 9 in total to the restaurant. The quality and the quantity of food was poor. When we complained to one of the member of stuff, asking to see the manager or chef, no one came to us to explain or apologise! Definitely Won't go back ever again. ☹
