Not family friendly 3 Very poor menu for a family venue. No child friendly options. Limited sandwiches with description on menu misleading. For example ‘tomato and mozzarella’ was not tomatoes but a tomato purée, and two of three sandwiches had bread with pesto soaked in. Fine fir this to be the sandwich called a Pesto sandwich but a surprise to find an equal amount in the Sicilian sandwich. Freshly prepared did not mean prepared on premises to order as it implies, but apparently made elsewhere by the caterers and brought in. Prices OK but service poor - staff friendly but complete confusion over drinks order

Me and my family decided to have a snack here so my mum ordered a coffee and my dad ordered a cappuccino. It was very expensive for such simple day-to-day foods as obviously profit is to be made as it is at the palace. The cup of coffees my parents had were very tiny so it was a waste of big money for such a small thing. I do not recommend this for the beverages. We haven't tried the food but the location of this cafe was exquisite with crows everywhere on perches and a picturesque scenery of the fountain with crystal- like water. Lovely furniture and location where the sun overlooked us. Late afternoon snack was not worth it, we do not strongly regret this but next time we would know not to make the same spending money mistake again. For the service, we barely saw them come out- really empty. This fountain cafe can make do with some improvements.

Had a lovely day at Hampton court palace but have to say very disappointed in the afternoon tea. Paid £18.95 for the Royal one. The pot of coffee was very small, glass of bubbly was forgotten and we had to chase it. My daughter is a vegetarian and was given miniature egg mayo sandwiches and a cucumber and mint one. The vinegar in the cucumber one was so strong you couldn't eat them. The cakes are miniscule. My friend chose normal slice of cake, which I wish we had chosen. Afternoon tea is not worth the money. As there was a downpour it was quite hard getting to pay as it's so cramped and normally you order from outside. Sadly spoilt our afternoon.

In many visits to Hampton Court Palace, this was the one café that I had not visited. It was busy on the day that I was there so service was a little slow. Staff were friendly and polite and coped well with the demands made of them. The food was fairly standard with not many options, but perhaps on a less busy day this would not be the case.

Hampton Court Palace is large, so naturally some refreshment is in order in mid-visit or after it. I went there for a tea with a scone. Both there OK, though on the industrial side. However, one hardly can expect high cuisine in such a touristy place. But even if food is nothing special, just sitting in the place where once the delicacies were prepared for HM Elisabeth I and reading some of the history or ancient recipes (on the walls) while having your refreshment, is a great treat. The serving counter is in the small room, so it may get very crowded, thankfully it wasn’t during my visit, there was no queue then.

When you get to the front of the queue you can order sandwiches that are really quite tasty (at £7.80). Seating is a bit of a bunfight (not at the OK Corral) as the tables in the sun are really hot so shade is preferred. A grumpy waiter said while I was queueing (again) for hot drinks after the sandwich that you couldn’t order hot drinks as you had to go to the other cafe (where the coffee is truly awful). I ignored that and was still able to order said drinks. It is a nice space at a busy attraction. If you have HRP membership don’t forget to show your card as it gives 10% discount.

When we arrived there were a number of items on the menu not available (wasn’t late - not sure why), service was friendly and pretty quick but the food is bland and over priced. Enjoyable location in a sheltered sunny courtyard with ample seating and tables. One places ones order at an open window to the kitchen and given a number in a stand to display on the table. This is a perfect little eatery, run cafe style, that can provide quick snacks and refreshments or a more substantial lunch for those with a healthier appetite. Spent a good long day at Hampton Court, and the The Privy Kitchen Cafe, adjacent to the Fountain Court Cafe, was a good place to stop for a break and bite to eat. The Privy Kitchen is the smaller of the two with a hot pies and jacket potatoes, sandwiches and cakes. The Privy Kitchen was built as the private (privy) kitchen for Queen Elizabeth 1, and you sit at long tables, so you do have to share. The scone I had was fresh and tasty, and the coffee was good seeing as it comes machined made. Well worth using for a break, and the room does have a charm about it.

The food was all enjoyed, though a bit pricey for what we had.

After a few hours of being immersed in the opulence and history of Hampton Court, my companions and I were feeling a bit peckish, and decided a nice cup of tea was in order. Fortunately, the Fountain Court Café was on-premises, allowing us to have a little break from all things Henry VIII.We ordered the Fountain Court Afternoon Tea light lunch for three, The tea arrived first, giving us a chance to relax and take in our surroundings on the open, but enclosed courtyard. Our edibles arrived a few minutes later, elegantly served on triple-tiered platters – finger sandwiches on the bottom, scones, clotted cream, and jam in the middle, and cakes and brownies on top. The sandwiches were delicious – and I had more than my share, since my companions chose to give me their smoked salmon portions. The scones were perfect with the clotted cream and jam, and the cakes provided a nice finish.Overall, the ambience, service and victuals left nothing to be desired. My companions rated the experience - citing the location and atmosphere – 9.8 and 10 out of 10, respectively. Being a bit of a contrarian, I rated it a 9/10. What a delightful way to spend an hour on a beautiful spring afternoon in a place surrounded by history. If you have the chance to visit Hampton Court, don’t pass up the opportunity to relax in the Fountain Court Café. It will be worth it!

There is a maze in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace but just finding your way around is a challenge in itself. Having sampled the horror of the Tiltyard Cafe for lunch we went to the Fountain cafe for tea. It's probably better when you can sit outside in the courtyard but with such high surrounding walls I doubt it gets much sun. We sat inside in a strange, very small room with big writing on the walls. The tea and cakes were very good but the service, as at the other cafe, left much to be desired. Even when you manage to find it.

Then we were told 10 - 15 minutes then as we were only after coffee we were seated quickly. I think that they were very short staffed. Anyhow we had an excellent cafetiere of coffee for £2.50 which was enough for a large cup each plus a large bottle sparkling water for the same price.

Service quite slow and when eventually tried to place an order of afternoon tea, we were told several of the options weren't available. Not a problem...my elderly aunties from Yorkshire happily changed to suit what 'was' available...order placed...sorted...or so we thought. Mistakenly (apparently) I order a bottle of water....which threw things into disarray....after a bit a wait (during which it started to rain) our order came out in 'bits and pieces'....more delember with the bottle of water...really??? We were finally fed (admitted a bit soggy) and ready to go forth and play in the Kitchen Garden.

He came up and discussed our order , we said that we would also like a glass of procecco. The prosecco was lovey and the afternoon tea arrived when we had asked for it. The service and quality of our experience was very good. They were attentative to how we were doing during the tea and asked if everything was to our satisfaction. We arrived at the Fountain restaurant at approximately 11.15 a.m. to be greeted by a very abrupt waiter who said if you do not want cake with your coffee you should go to the other Cafe. Not a very good start but as we intended to eat cake with our coffee and take a late lunch we stayed. However, it became apparent later on that as the choice of luncheon venues at Hampton Court is extremely limiting we had little option but to return reluctantly to Fountain Court. There are two entrances into the courtyard of this venue and at the one we stood at waiting to be seated we found ourselves totally ignored. So much so that a gentleman who had arrived after us at the other entrance was seated first at the last remaining table which was right in front of the entrance we had used and at which we would have sat if it had not said 'wait to be seated'. When the next available table did become available I am pleased to say that we were served by a rather pleasant waitress who to some extent made up for the surly attitude of the waiters. The menu was limited and fairly expensive although the surroundings were pleasant. It would be nice if the staff would make their customers feel a little more valued as after all we are paying the bill.

If you would like a moment to relax and experience high tea within the castle where Henry VIII (six wives), James I (King James Bible), Charles I (deposed), and Charles II (the Restoration) lived and conducted business, then this is the only place in the world where you can do that. The service was leisurely, but there are no complaints about the fruit scone with clotted cream and jam. The tea served was English Breakfast, I guess just like you can buy in the grocery store back home. But back home I bet you are not surrounded by stone or brick walls which are maybe 400 years old.

The service at this venue was appalling, the venue and setting were great and we'd really been looking forward to this day having booked it a while ago.Firstly the waiter came out with tea for 3 people 3 saucers, 3 teaspoons and 2 cups! We had to ask. Twice got the champagne which was also part of the deal we had booked. My friend asked for a soft drink twice which never arrived, at the end when I spoke to the manager on duty that day and pointed out out disappointment of the service he was defensive and did not apologise. Arrived just as it as starting to rain. Very abrupt waiter said the only choice was afternoon tea and if I didn't want that I should go to the other eatery inside the palace - without even checking what I wanted to do! I was then ushered from the wait to be seared sign to an inside table and ordered to sit down. To be fair it had just started to rain and the staff needed to move clients from inside to outside but this was efficiency on the wrong side of rudeness. Afternoon tea was nicely presented and the waitresses made up for Mr Grumpy. Delicious scones, average sandwiches. Nice option of a savoury afternoon tea with pork pie and pickle to replace the cakes

The sweet teas made up of finger sandwiches, scones and cream , and two small sweet pastries. The Savory differed with a savoury scone and flavoured butter, and pork pie and cake. Along with the finger sandwiches. Both served with pot of tea off your choice.Or coffee. You can go for tea with bubbles for a extra charge. A most wonderful day out. Plenty to see and enjoy. We saw two performances, one in the Great Hall (a very amusing Hamlet rehearsal) and a very interesting series of performances in the Georgian Story area, each performed in different rooms. We walked through Henry VIII's kitchens, very educational. We had afternoon tea in the Fountain Court cafe. Although the food was lovely the service is abysmal. I have rarely experienced such an inefficient service. Our coffee was cold, we had to ask for more milk 3 times because there simply was not enough for the coffee or tea served. The mist frustrating part was asking for more drinks and 20 minutes later it became apparent that they had forgotten. I then asked for the bill which again was forgotten. I then had to physically get out of my chair find a waiter and ask for my bill again. If I visited the palace again I would avoid this cafe. Not sure why the prices more do expensive as you are not really getting a full afternoon tea experience with such poor service! On a more positive note, the fountain court garden was beautiful. We sat by the fountain soaking in the atmosphere and took a walk through the elegant and stunning garden. Too much to see in one day, will have to return..........

Visted yesterday and found the cafe very overpriced - £5.95 for a sausage roll that literally dripped fat all over the table - you can get half a dozen much nicer ones at Greggs for that 😂 Chocolate cake looked good but at £5.25 a slice we gave it a miss, likewise £11.50 for a baked potato with sausage and onions. My latte didn't appear to have much milk in it (clue should be in the name) and the service wasn't particularly friendly either. Dirty crockery was piling up and not being cleared - I'm guessing they were short of staff. Hampton Court Palace is one of my absolute favourite places but this little cafe really needs some TLC.
