I was there carnival night. The atmosphere was amazing, queues out the door, staff working flat out. We had the chips and mushy peas and it was fantastic food, also gluten free.

Really good fish and chips. Very large portions.

We ate in with a large family gathering and the service and food was first class. Had effectively a private upstairs table, staff looked after everyone and food came quickly and all together. Great selection so for non fish and chips eaters, plenty of choice. Huge puddings for those able to manage desert and amazing milk shakes. Recommend eating in or take away but hats of again to all the staff .

Not your average FnChip shop. A varied menu, suitable for all tastes. Huge fish portions but the secret ingredient is the best gravy in town. All made to chefs own recipe. Cheerful and helpful service.

Just been diagnosed with coeliacs and trying to navigate a life being gluten free. Imagine my joy when I was assured I could have anything on the menu as a gluten free option all prepared fresh and away from any gluten. Even had gluten free vinegar! The chips were uncooked and still hard, the atmosphere and service was the worst i’ve ever seen, food being dropped and colleagues moaning at each other. Usually very good but needs to be sorted. Sorry for the moan xx

Didn't mind waiting for fish to be cooked but didn't like that staff wanted to wrap the chips and put on top of fryers before the fish even went in for cooking. To be fair, they did leave them when I asked. The fish itself was tasty, but sorry, guys, while I understand that the costs of things has risen, £9 for a small portion is a bit steep. Don't think I'll be back very often

Decided on a lunchtime treat So much grease ran out of the fish there was a big pool of it in the tray, chips were peely wally. A big disappointment Would not recommend

I had pig's liver, bacon, onion and peas with mash. My wife had fish, chips and mushy peas followed by a mug of tea. Could not fault it, absolutely beautiful. It's the fifth time going and every meal has been spot on. Well done to the owner. Now doing a Sunday roast as well.

My daughter and I love this place. Food always fantastic our favourite is the mac and cheese. Staff very friendly and polite food always freshly cooked. When I go to bridgewater we say right what we doing for food and straight away we always decide on Admiral blake. Xx

My partner's family and I ordered food from this place, each with a portion of chips to share (separate orders, roughly 15 minutes apart). Upon getting home, my partner's family mentioned that their chips were very hard and were more like potatoes than properly cooked, fluffy chips…. so much so that they couldn't finish them. When we had our chips, they were the same; very pale looking (as if undercooked and therefore not crispy like we have had from the shop before), and unpleasant. Additionally, our order included 2 No. cheesecakes, one was fine but the other tasted off and upon further looks had visible mould on the outside, where it is exposed to air. We decided to message the establishment privately (Facebook) about the issue out of kindness, but they denied it twice, which is why I am now writing this review publicly since they were not accommodating or even had the incline to refund us for the one slice. It is also worth noting that at this point we had not mentioned about the disappointing chips as have good ones from them before and decided to bypass this comment at the time. Since I know businesses can reply to reviews, I would just like to stress this was mouldy/off tasting and despite all “it is just discolouration”, this does not answer why the berries tasted/looked off. Other than this the staff were very pleasant in store and our order was dealt with in a timely manor.

Visited here on a Friday afternoon and the portions are well worth the money, service it great although did ask for curry sauce and got gravy . Close eh never mind.

Order food for the family, this order included 3 small chips, all three were different sizes and none were worth the money paid the food didn't taste good either.. Unfortunately it seems another chip shop has slipped below standards

Lovely people as for the service we couldn't have asked for more. The curry sauce was so good it was definitely the freshest fishcake and pineapple fritter I have ever had. This place deserves to be appreciated if we happen to be passing by again we will make a stop to see the admiral blake and sit in. I was also impressed by the extensive menu and the friendliness of the place.

Usual chippy busy so tried the admiral Blake , can't remember the last time we as a family had fish and chips that were this bad . Won't be back .

The worst I have ever had, anaemic chips, a vegetarian cheese and onion whatever it is £1.95! 2 bites! Worst fish and chip shop ever used, abominable! Extertortinate prices for an overpriced meal, avoid at all costs!

Delicious food, generous portions, and an incredible dedication to providing coeliac-friendly, gluten free options! It's clear the owner cares not just about ensuring gluten free options are available, but that these options genuinely delicious - going as far as to come up with whole new recipes and menu items to ensure as wide a range as possible is available. I'd absolutely recommend this as the best gluten free place to eat in the surrounding area, without hesitation 😄.

This particular fish and chip place has been here forever. Or so it seems. I remember calling in for fish and chips when I was growing up, and that was a very long time ago. Their standard has not dropped, in all of that time. The quality of the food is still as good as it was all those decades ago. Saturday nights here are always busy, so they must still be doing something right.

Been going for years and by far the worse experience we've ever had.. 2x Gluten free large cod was honestly very poor.. Thick over cooked batter with another thick layer underneath before getting to the cod.. We've had it before several times and always have raved about it as batter has been so light.. I don't know what's happened but unfortunately won't be going back... The chips were lovely and the other meal of fish and chips not gl was fine with very light batter with gravy.. Very disappointed doesn't cover it.. Was the oil too hot? Would like an explanation if possible.

We regularly visit here as do all our family for the best fish n chips around. Plus I'm gluten free and this place has the best gluten free menu I've ever come across. Homemade pies, seafood dishes all cooked fresh on request. The gluten free cheesecakes are to die for....choc orange, mint aero, toblerone etc etc !!

Went hear today with family and our 3 fur babies. What a welcome, the owners are so friendly and attentive. The menu offers a broad variety of home cooked food and what we had was fresh and delicious. The restaurant is immaculately clean. Excellent gluten free provision Was excited to find a fish and chip shop that did gluten free, a few miles from our holiday accommodation. Even more excited when we got there to find a whole gf menu which included steak and ale pie. Gluten free meat pie- a very rare find when eating out . Home made- even more rare.Had a talk to chef who was fully aware of gluten free requirements and very friendly and helpful. The pie was very good - full of tender meat. Also a selection of gluten free cheese cakes to choose from. There was a good selection of meals on the ordinary menu also.I was very impressed and would certainly have made a return visit if we had found this place at the beginning of our holiday instead of the end. The staff were friendly and establishment and toilets were clean.

Wow, what a find! Came here for dinner as a family of 6 for our last meal of our getaway break. As soon as we walked in the staff were lovely, moved tables so we could all sit together, we had a very attentive, friendly and helpful young lady serving us who made our whole experience a joy! What a credit to her workplace! The menu had lots of lovely choices, with deep fried, pan fried or grilled fish options. The chips were the best we have all tasted in a long time. Then to top it off we all had the homemade cheesecake, our lovely server wrote all the flavours down for us to choose from as there were so many.. We got the cheesecakes to take away with us (as we were full from our meal and they looked too good to not have) and they were put in individual containers and labelled.. the bounty, biscoff, Oreo and dark choc with cherry were absolutely delicious!! The only bad thing about this place is its 192 miles away from where we live!

My husband and I frequent this chip shop as they have a massive gluten-free menu! The owner has a family member who is also a Coeliac so is very careful with how things are cooked and how many options there are! She has even started making chilli cheese bites herself from scratch, and they are absolutely delicious 😋 The staff are always friendly and polite, the place is always spotless and we have not found a better chip shop in all of Somerset. Really great place. Super friendly and helpful staff. The food is fantastic, best chips in town and my wife tells me they do the best mushy peas. I highly recommend the lasagna.

Best gluten free cheese cake in the South-West! Better than any chain restaurant or desert specialists. The staff are amazing, so friendly and fun. The fish and chips are fab plus their homemade specials. An affordable place to feed your family!

My husband and I visit this cafe whenever we are in Bridgwater which is not too often. Their is a good selection of meals to choose from including a menu with Katie’s home made meals. We have both had Katie’s home made fish cakes with chips and peas more than on one occasion. They are so much tastier than the usual fish cakes most cafes serve. They have a good amount of fish in them and the chips are the best chips I have ever had anywhere over many years. The staff are friendly and efficient too. We will be back there again.

i have been going to this chip shop for years but tonight my experience wasn't at all satisfactory....the chips were cold and chicken barely cooked gone down hill lately alot......

Absolutely delicious fish and chips! I’m coeliac and this is the only fish and chip shop that cater for coeliacs locally (separate fryer, separate cooking tools, etc, all to avoid cross contamination) and they did not disappoint! Lovely staff, very reassuring that they take serving gluten free food very seriously!

Service a bit slow and pricey to eat in, so we had a takeaway. Food was top notch, though.

Since moving to Bridgwater I do like to hunt down for a good fish and chips place, when I came across this place I was overwhelmed.. The food there is spot on, hardly any oil on the fish and chips, always cooked fresh and very friendly staff.. I have always called to place my order and they have it ready every time when I go to pick it up.. Very good portions and tastes amazing, just a shame you don't do Blue Light card.. I dont go anywhere else for Fish and Chips.. Thank you for the most amazing service and food..

Have enjoyed eating at Blake for the last 30 years, good portions, freshly cooked, friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Our last visit was a bit disappointing, we both felt cold the whole time we were eating, food wasn’t as hot as normal. Down side, asked about disable grab bars for the toilets about a year ago but nothing, though the area could do with updating.

Ordered fish and chips twice and two battered sausage and chips twice, when I got home only one lot of sausage and chips were in the bag and what was in there was cold. Not the first time this has happened but I was willing to give them a second chance, they won't be getting a third chance, better off going elsewhere.

Stopped here on the way out of town after visiting the cinema for some fish n chips. Haven’t been here for years so was keen to take a trip down memory lane. Always used to be my favourite fish n chip shop in town. Parking was easy right outside, must have got lucky! The Admiral Blake hasn’t changed one bit from when I was a teenager using it which was great; I don’t like change!! I guess the staff have changed mind! There is a restaurant if you want to eat in although I was here for takeaway, there is also a dessert cabinet which looked really good. Being as it’s the start of a New Year I’m currently in the ‘New Year New Me’ phase! So I left the excellent looking desserts alone!! The menu had a decent selection of the usual fish n chip food items on it, milkshakes also available on the drinks menu. I chose to have a medium chips, fish cake (I chose a home made one) and a large plain sausage. The shop was clean and tidy. The food was excellent, the chips not too greasy and very tasty. The home made fish cake was lovely, better than the mass produced ones! The staff were friendly and welcoming, based on this experience I will certainly be using the Admiral Blake again when I’m next in the area!

When you get Scammed by the person who served you for just 50+ p because you happen to be of older years, I find it OFFENSIVE that people are trying to Scam you - even for a small amount. It’s everywhere. Their food is fine, but I DETEST it when I’m treated like an idiot. I should have asked for a Receipt but I didn’t want confrontation. I would recommend their food, but you have to have eyes in the back of your head by the “person” who served you. Go elsewhere is my advice. It isn’t the money - It’s the INSULT.

Stopped here whilst waiting to see Bridgewater carnival We where seated upstairs and then just left for 20 minutes there where plates piled high on tables. The waitress was very young and a little cocky she introduced herself as a full time mum and she had worked 56 hours that week. When the food arrived it was very tasty and filling When it came to pay downstairs was hectic more plates piled up on tables and service table - the fish counter had people queuing out the door and onto the street When it came to pay the guy was putting random charges down and they weren’t adding up and when I questioned it was told I’ve only stepped back in tonight to help? There should have been more staff on that night and it would have gone a lot smoother

Called in today as the wonderful smell of fish and chips wafted out of the shop and could not resist the lunch time temptation. The front of the shop is dedicated to take outs and at the rear there is tabled area with a good choice of food and beverages on the menu. We had fish, chips and peas, and can honestly say it was the best ever had with the batter on the freshly prepared fish crisp and thin. The owners are friendly and talkative. Can highly recommend if visiting Bridgwater town.

I've discovered a secret gem in Bridgwater. Admiral Blake Fish Bar. The town is fully aware of its fine fish n chips, but have you tried Katie's homemade menu inside the restaurant? Absolutely wow. Amazing. The chicken and mushroom pie is so delicious and meaty, and the macaroni cheese with pancetta melts in your mouth. A good selection of honest food available. If you like homemade food, a friendly service then pop in your come out smiling.

Best place I know for not just fish and chips

Always been here and been good, went this week and they were awful. Had take away and paid £32, found out they had given us an extra meal we didn't ask for, gravy was cold, asked for large mushy peas and got a tub of gratted cheese instead!! Fish batter was oily and soggy, chips pale. Service from staff not brilliant as they didn't put salt and vinegar on, when asked to do it, they said "oh I will have to un wrap it!!" With and attitude...Can you do it at home?? I was eating out! So asked for a little vinegar schet...no we haven't got any! 😕 pants, overcharged, missing items and soggy food! At the beginning of the month had a lovely fish&chips, eat in with my kids.Big portions, fresh & tasty with a lemon wedge (hate vinegar!) and plenty ketchup instead of the tartar sauce. didn't put salt and vinegar on my food when I asked for lots (-1 star) Price of what I wanted went up 50% since last year inflation is 7.1% not 50% and seems like a way to just get more profit for the same thing and blame inflation (-1 star) The food tasted bland and un flavourful (tasted lightly of grease) even when I added sea salt and malt vinegar myself (-1 star) Staff were friendly and happy to help and knowledgeable (+1 star) The service was fast and easy (+1 star) All in all I think ill avoid from now on as the price of what i paid vs what I got was just not worth it in any reality.
