We had a wonderful lunch here. The ambience, service and of course the food were all great. I rarely eat mussels unless I can have some confidence that they will be good quality. I wasn't disappointed. A treat to eat. My wife's crab linguine was equally good. A pity some of the other places in the town don't take notice how things should be done. Keep up the good work.

We have been to Adam's Place a few times and have never had a bad meal or experience. The staff are lovely - friendly, and helpful. The food is excellent, well priced, good portions and using local produce. They advertise themselves as a steak/seafood bistro but they do also have vegetarian options on the menu. The crab linguine is delicious and I was lucky to have some wonderful mussels there recently. The desserts are always excellent, and the wine list is very reasonable. I would advise booking in advance, regardless of the time of year as it is popular with both locals and visitors.

It is always tough to write a less than positive review but we visited twice - once for lunch and once for dinner - pre-booked. The lunchtime experience was good with the food but the service was just dreadful - felt there had been little or no training! However the evening experience was very poor - long wait for service and then it was disappointment on both fronts - the scampi (which had been excellent on earlier visit) was like rubber balls - over cooked I guess - and the service again reflected a lack of staff training. While we know that hospitality staff are in short supply, a bit of training will result in happier customers!

Lovely lunch with friendly staff. A recently new venture for Stromness, we wish them luck. Stromness need more restaurants like this and cafes.

Surly 2 older waitstaff but young lady was efficient and friendly enough. Steaks were very good but linguine sauce was loaded with sugar and tasted cheap.

Delicious food, brushetta, souffle, linguine and steak all excellent. Staff very friendly and service prompt and efficient. Prices are a bit top of the range but this is the only dedicated restaurant we could find on Stromness open into the evening so they have a strong market. Booking essential and check the opening hours before you call to book as they are a bit odd.

This is a really nice cafe, close to the car parking and overlooking the harbour. The service is friendly and efficient. The smoked haddock chowder was delicious. Tomato and Basis soup very tasty and both soups served with fresh local herbed bread. Fresh Shetland muscles were served with local herbed bread. Good selection of soft drinks. Window seats overlooked the bay. Crab linguini delicious, beef burger and chips brilliant, monkfish scampi divine. Excellent espresso and flat white coffees. Nice ambiance and clean. All served on some pretty plates. Would recommend!

I was made to feel very welcome as a solo traveller by the staff and whilst the restaurant does not have a wide menu, it was pleasing to find somewhere where the focus is on the quality of the meals. The local mussels were soft and beautifully cooked with plenty of flavour and not spoilt by an excess of sauce. As a main I went for the crab linguine and was not disappointed. The crab and the pasta were seasoned so that you could identify all the individual components but they all complimented each other. The restaurant is not massive but the tables are placed well apart which allows people to feel comfortable but there was still a good vibe with people enjoying themselves. There is a need to book well in advance to guarantee a table and it was a shame that I only booked for one meal, but I will return again in the future.

We went for lunch at Adams Place today and it was lovely. I opted for 2 starters - the souffle and the chowder and they were both lovely, especially the chowder (best I've ever had) Good service too. My son had the haddock goujons and chips which were also good with a lovely tartare sauce and peas. Coffee very nice. Would recommend.

Popped in on spec after a visit to the Pier House gallery - cosy seat by the window overlooking the harbour and a delicious freshly prepared lunch. Innovative dishes and very polite service.

The food was really rather good. The soufflé was particularly special and everything else was tasty. The soufflé was a good size but the mussels as a main I thought was quite small with not many mussels and I am used to getting more. Although I enjoyed the food, I would only go back if they made it a bit warmer and got rid of the old round cafe tables.

We had our family meal here last friday night and all six of us enjoyed our varied meals from our Chowder, soups and Mussel starter, mains of Crab Linguine, Burgers, Fish Goujons etc to our puddings of Sticky Toffee and Creme Brule Apple Tarts. The service was very good as well. Very happy to recommend Adam's Place and will be more than happy to return soon.

Visited on Friday 6th October 2023. A female waitress was polite and said there would be a short wait for a table and apologised for this, this was not a problem and we were happy to wait. A male waiter was cleaning tables as there was 3 or 4 waiting to be wiped down for use. He could not have went any slower, had no sense of urgency and seemed unbothered about the short queue of people waiting for a table. Once seated we asked the male waiter for a menu as none had been provided to us, he was extremely rude and said they were busy so we would have to wait 10-15 minutes. At this point there was at least 4 empty tables so it was not that busy. When we were given menus and went to order our food my friend asked if the soufflé came with anything on the side, the male waiter abruptly answered ‘no’ and then stood silently. He did not bring us any of the drinks we ordered and when the female waitress brought us our food we had to ask for them then. The male waiter gave us a dirty look when he seen her give us our drinks that he had forgotten to serve us. The table next to us had to sit for over 15 minutes waiting to be given a menu. We overheard the male waiter bossing the female around and was not polite in the ways that he spoke to her. I find this extremely uncomfortable. Luckily the food was tasty and piping hot so that was a bonus. Had we not been so unfamiliar with the area and waiting to get onto the ferry we would have went elsewhere. It is a real shame because the food is great and the female waitress was lovely. However the male waiter was rude, dismissive and made the experience extremely unpleasant. I mentioned this to the female waitress upon paying for my bill and she was apologetic and appeared embarrassed at her colleague being like this. We got the vibe this is not unusual for him and really think it should be addressed seriously. His customer service is appalling.

We came here on our last evening in Stromness. We got a warm welcome and were hoping for a memorable meal. We were not disappointed. The menu was small but varied, always a good sign, and the food was excellent. The service was attentive but not overbearing. The seafood dishes were fresh and tasty. Steak was cooked perfectly and the homemade warm bread was another success. The portion sizes just right and the prices very reasonable. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Well, we did return and we were not disappointed. This time we made a booking to ensure a table as they do get booked up. (Always a good sign of a good restaurant). The staff as before were very welcoming and the service was great. We liked the menu as it wasn’t too extensive but still plenty of choice. And the Wine List was good too. We started with Crab Risotto and Chowder, a great choice, then Rump Steak cooked to perfection and Catfish Taco, which was amazing. We shared a vanilla Panna Cotta (too full for one each). We also had a nice bottle of Wine to go with our meal. I must say, every course was absolutely delicious, freshly cooked and beautifully presented, and very reasonably priced. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening, the atmosphere was lovely, buzzing with chatter from the other dinners, very relaxing. We are looking forward to working our way through the menu on our next visits. Thank you. We will be back !!!

Can't fake cordiality... The service can be a bit soulless and rushed ( and no, it wasn't too busy when we were there). But if this doesn't bother you, the food is excellent.

Nicer than expected, the staff are very welcoming. For vegetarians, the menu is a bit limited but still enjoyable. Overall, it's a bit pricey, but don't forget that getting fresh supplies this far north must be costly too so make allowances.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local, (always a good sign) and we were not disappointed. We were advised to book as it gets busy. How lucky were we to get the last table for the night we wanted to go. There was a great selection on the menu. We chose the mussels and the soufflé for starters, both were delicious. For mains we had Steak which was cooked to perfection and the Crab Linguine which was so flavoursome. For dessert we had Sticky toffee pudding and the Lemon tart which was sublime. They have a great selection of wines and local beers which we just had to try. The food was outstanding, everything was freshly cooked and beautifully presented. The waiting staff were excellent too, very attentive and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Adam’s Place. It was a great evening with a great atmosphere and we highly recommended it. We are looking forward to our next visit. We will be back………….. thank you.

Adam's Place is relatively new. The staff said they'd been open a couple of months as of July 2023. It is worth saying, and this is true across Stromness, it recommends reservations and I would heed that recommendation as we were fortunate to get in on the night we went as a couple at a very early (5:30) dining time as it was fully booked after that. The dining area is comfortable and the service is attentive and friendly. The food was quite good across both meals that we had and there was a good selection of wine and beers.

The website says open 10-5. This is only the gift shop not the brewery. Brewery tour times change daily. Staff said they expect tourists will phone ahead to ask about daily tour times. None of this information is on their website. Drove 40 minutes from Kirkwall for nothing

Spoiled for choice, all sorts of delicatessen to pick from. Not super cheap or expensive but had a good browse and bought some relish, cheese and oatcakes.

Lovely tearoom with lots of options (including those for vegetarians): baked potatoes, salads, soups, sandwiches, falafel, burgers, cream teas, cakes and traybakes. The crab roll must be popular as it was sold out when we visited. On popularity - best to ring ahead and book a table if you can (no dogs allowed inside, outside there is a small uncovered seating area where they are welcome). I hope to visit again. I have eaten a lot of rocky road in my time, it is my favourite thing to get if it is on the menu so I consider myself quite the connoisseur. The rocky road at this tearoom is the best I’ve ever had. Staff also very friendly, and there is a wonderful view out to Brough of Birsay.

Just back from staying 3 nights in the wonderful very dog friendly Lynnfield Hotel in Kirkwall. We have stayed in several other hotels in Kirkwall but none of them came up to the standard of the Lynnfield Hotel. Malcolm and his staff couldn’t have made us feel more welcome than they did. Our room, the Melsetter Suite was just wonderful. A fantastic mira shower and a space age jacuzzi bath etc etc! The food was simply delicious. We had intended eating elsewhere on one of the nights but after dinner in the Lynnfield Hotel the first night we continued to eat in house for the duration of our stay. For dog owners, look no further. All the staff are very dog friendly. Rusty our Welsh terrier can’t wait to go back! Very highly recommended.

Simon is the person who served us each day this week. Very dry sense of humour & not a man to be rushed! The coffee and teas are good. Small selection of eats - a fab coconut and chocolate cake and hot pies. Only 4-5 small tables available ( and takeaway). Only seems to be open around 9am or 9.30am, not 8am as advertised. Good old fashioned easy listening music.
