Abercrave Inn in Powys

They absolutely ruined a reunion celebration at this pub. I’ve had bad experience here before but was forced to come and I only came here because it had been requested by a team member and it used to be highly recommend. We were only a table of 5 and the place was (all bar out and one or two other tables), empty. It took an eternity to get served and then it seamed like she ( just found out she’s one of the owners)was doing us a favor for even taking our order. The food was and with hand on heart very basic, lukewarm and below average food that finally came to the table. I was absolutely tamping by this time but due to the company at our table, it would not have gone down well to complain. Well… I just can’t sit by and read these positive reviews when the place is well below average and run by people that have absolutely no idea how to run a business in the service industry. I will Never recommend this place ever. You can get better food in the Clock in Ystradgynlais for less.

Stopped here for lunch today, haven't been for for a long time but always had very good meals previously. New owners and decor and the pub has lost it's oldy worldy charm. Very annoying music being played continuously, food was average at best, it's basically weatherspoon quality food. Whereas before it was top quality pub food. The staff were very nice and friendly, especially the young girl on the door. But overall a very average pub meal and in all honesty I'd actively avoid it in future and will not be in a rush to return.

We ate here on 5th March, Last time we were here was over 10 years ago, We moved away. We were looking somewhere to meet up with friends for my birthday, and i was not disappointed. What a deference, it was absolutely spotless, and the staff were just lovely, very helpful and present. the food was just great. I had the chicken tikka sizzler, good size portion, absolutely delicious, we will definitely return next time we are back in Wales. We will recommend to all our family and friends.

Lovely welcome. Friendly staff. Food was lovely. Between all of us we had steak, scampi, chicken tikka, chicken in a sauce. Portions are good, service fabulous. Young lad Tom waited on us and he was very attentive and full of smiles. The new owners are doing a great job and the new decor is fresh and homely.

From the moment we walked into the door we was made to feel welcome , bar staff chatty and happy to joke with us . We were a group of 4 we had starters mains and pudding and could not fault any of the food , hot when came out and very tasty the chips were Devine , plenty of interaction from staff to check if we were ok no pressure from them to leave a very pleasant night and great food 5*

Went tonight 10th Feb and had a fantastic meal. The quality is fantastic, the portion size is huge and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. Been here before but under different management but can’t recommend this place enough will definitely come back

My family came for Sunday lunch today and it was beautiful, very tasty. The service was excellent and there was a lovely atmosphere. I had the Salmon with seasonal vegetables and the rest of the family had the roast beef and lamb they said it was very tasty. I liked that there was plenty of space between the tables. We will definitely eat here again and I would highly recommend it.

The staff were great from the start, I booked online to stay there…then rang to book dinner, they were pop so so friendly. We arrived to a warm welcome and the food was fantastic, I have lived in Wales & England and never had such wonderful food as this, steak & ale pie best on the planet, the cockles & Cockles & Lava bread ….. lamb shank … The atmosphere was so lovely with Welsh families of all ages having great time.. this is an absolute gem! So glad we found it & will definitely be back….

We called in for a light lunch on 3rd February and the place, where I have stayed in the past is looking good. The owner, Mohammed, welcomed us. We asked for soup and a sandwich, but sadly they don’t do sandwiches. So I choose cockles and bacon. A glass of good wine soon arrived along with a glass of lager. The soup was excellent but the cockles and bacon was awful. It was a small dish of molten cheese with very little else inside it. It came with a small slice of garlic bread which sadly was as tough as old boots. We both thought this popular pub / restaurant was slick and span but the chef must have been on holiday this day.

Wowza what a beautiful place! Was greeted by a very lovely lady, who welcomed us with open arms and took us to a table right by the roaring fire. The lady was very attentive and polite. The food was mouthwatering! I had a vegetarian chilli which you could clearly tell was fresh & homemade with its own authentic taste, my partner had rump steak & ribs which fell off the bone and was the tastiest steak he’d ever had, my daughter had pizza and peas, each meal came with homemade chips which is a bonus and beautifully presented. The whole place was very clean and hygienic. We can’t wait to come back to try more delicious food off the wide range on the menu, and will highly recommend to friends & family. The food here is simply sublime!! Nestled in the depths of the picturesque mountains of the Welsh Brecon Beacons. This evening I tried one of the specials on offer, Chicken Supreme in a red wine jus. I have been fortunate to have dined at 3 * Michelin star restaurants. This evenings special 'Chicken Supreme' was amongst the finest meals I have ever tasted. The dessert was equally as delicious and plentiful. I did struggle to eat it as I hate food waste, this was too good to leave. I am now in food comatose at a very affordable price. We will definitely be back this week. Just superb food and amazing service as well. Thank you!

What has happened to this once fabulous restaurant? We use to be regulars here! On 24 12 23, my Wife and I went for lunch. My starter of cockles and laverbread was stone cold, so sent back. The accompanying bread roll was like a brick and inedible. The mains of lamb chops and plaice were very poor! Thin plaice and chops poor quality. The new Owners must have sacked the once brilliant Chef! It’s gone downhill faster than a bobsleigh champion! You won’t be seeing us again and it would be better turned into an Indian Restaurant by the current owners!

Nice evening meal with friends ,friendly warm pub . Nice atmosphere and staff . Mushroom starter and bacon,cockles and laver bread topped with cheese ,very tasty.
