Abbey Fryer in Tewkesbury

10 of us were staying locally for a a half term break in the Cotswolds, found this place on google and boy were we happy. The cod (we ordered 7 large ones) was simply amazing. The fish was light and fluffy and the batter was golden and crispy. All very dry and tasty, none of that greasy feeling you often get with chippies. The staff and I think the owner in particular just seemed like really nice people. Highly recommend if you are passing through. The chips were not in the same league. Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t terrible by any stretch but felt we probably got the short end of the straw when it came to freshness. However, it did not detract at all from the positive experience.

Good quality chips hand cut but slightly greasy! Fish cod tasty Scampi also tasty. I would discontinue plastic, as potatoes are kept in plastic container! Thank you

The best cod & chips we have had in a very long time . The cod was pure white cooked to perfection the batter was crispy . Chips were thick perfectly cooked and not dry . Service was super speedy. If only I lived closer 🥲

I found this place on Tewkesbury High Street.and enjoyed their food immensely. Will call again next time ime here.prices are reasonable probably the best in the area.

First time here, delicious fish and chips got a large portion between two, very generous we were stuffed, nicely cooked, friendly staff, price in keeping with most chip shops

Best cod I've had for a very long time the batter on the fish was golden and crispy and the fish was perfectly cooked absolutely delicious and the batter was full of cod i absolutely enjoyed my meal from here tonight 😋 🙌 👌

Disgusting closed an hour earlier than stated even with queue outside and spoken to so rudely when trying to see if door was open

This has got to be the worse food I’ve ever eaten . The fish was so dry and stuck to the batter , the grease was shocking . Chips to be fair were ok and that’s all I can say .

If u need your food cooked a different way they will always do it that way x

A little dubious at first after reading the mixed reviews but, we shouldn’t have bothered. We travel around the UK & Europe in our Motorhome & have fish & chips whenever we can in the towns we visit & rate the meals according, Abbey Fryer is in our top 5!! lovely hot food, great portions, crispy battered fish, peas, curry sauce & gravy that taste as they should! 5 star review, thank you 😋👍😀

Chips were a bit dried out, Think they were pre-cooked from earlier. Chicken tikka stuff was nice!

Only leaving a one star on the basis that I couldn't leave a naught star. Went in, waited in line for 5 mins before the server served a bloke that had just walked in infront of me. Is it that hard to distinguish who was first? I walked straight out. your foods mediocre and does not warrant such an insult. Keep it I'll walk 5 mins down the road for better service and quality from the kingfisher. Sort you etiquette out.

Nice chips but the worst saveloy ( rubbery and tough and brown ) I've ever had not normally like this won't be having it again

WARNING. Not open all day like advertised. When informed of this the owner seemed smile at it and not want to update this page. Said had no chips to start with. Then a few so I asked for a cone. They was cooking them fresh. So that’s two lies in a row!

Spot on, thank you for giving a fantastic cod and chips , fish was excellent and chIps great , and for the curry sauce that was top shop. Ordered on line and was ready waiting when we picked it up . 10 out of 10.

Wow! £22 for 2 bags of fish and chips and a portion of peas. All fairly tasteless too and fish with soggy batter. Not sure what the peas tasted like but definitely not peas. What a shame a always my go to chippy in Tewkesbury.

Portion sizes are poor. Food been sat under heaters for a while. Chips not overly hot. Not overly impressed for the money.

Small portion, no flavour and no manners. I had my order messed up resulting in 2 people with learning difficulties no being able to eat cos things have to be a certain way. Rather than compassion I got bad attitude from the chef who acted like it was a huge problem I was causing them, and told I could get free fish and chips next time or go get the messed up part of the order which would have meant cold food by the time I get back. No offer to replace the order so we could have what we payed for and have it hot. Absolutely ridiculous

Usually go to the chippy in Upton but when the Autumn gardening show was on and Upton nose to tail went to Tewkesbury. Very good service and nice meal.

Easy, quick walk from camping site. Both the fish and the chips we had where excellent, good size portions and good prices. Friendly service as well.

Good fish and chips, but not piping hot. Good taking care of us and taking telephone orders. I have used them before when on holiday. I wish them another happy 15 years.

Had a kebab tonight, meat had already been cut up, and was in a warming tray. When l got home 5 mins later to eat it, is was cold and very tough...very disappointed🙁

The Fish and Chips were great best fish. Curry sauce we loved chips just how we like them NOT GREASY. I would HIGHLY reccommend ABBY FRYER FISH AND CHIP SHOP.. Went for a day out stopped here to get food with my family chips taste soapy . Fishcakes are very overdone . Burgers are very fatty and kebab was appaling will not be using again 4 meals in the bin and staff very rude !!

Used to be a good chip shop, has a new guy who is burning the kebab meat. It’s now dry, tough and totally inedible. Had to throw my last one away.
