My wife and I visited while in Melrose. We did not eat or have coffee but loved the selection of wines on offer, and left with an interesting bottle of Austrian red. Service was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. A brilliant find.

Visited afew times since Abbey Wines changes owners and was pleased to see a new menu today. Lovely fresh platters available. Would recommend the ploughman's and the cheese and the meats !! Lovely to share with a good bottle of wine (and plenty of excellent wine to choose from) Still the good homemade soup and toasties/sandwiches available though. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Lovely comfortable seating are with outside seating in warmer weather.

Called in for a coffee but also become distracted by their very agreeable display of wines Not sure whether itv is first and foremost a wine shop or a coffee shop that sells wines but no matter all very pleasant. They are very happy for you to just browse the wines (all sorts for all budgets) but our coffees were both good and the service very pleasant. Will call in again!

Good panini, lovely latte and the best scones in Melrose. New addition to the menu are the mince pies which are highly recommended. No better place for lunch and to select a good bottle of wine or two. Felt very safe with plenty of room between tables and every one wearing masks. Lovey relaxed atmosphere and very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Never been in for food, but I visit it as an off sales occasionally, basically because they have real choice and real quality. Not cheap, but there's nowhere else in the area to get wines and spirits of this quality and variation.

I had been before, quite a while ago, and remember having a nice lunch. This time things weren't great unfortunately. The hot chocolates were very watery and the cake and tray bakes weren't anything to shout about. It felt like a waste of money. Shame, because the staff were very friendly and the shop seems to be stocking quality drinks worth visiting for, if you're into wine and gin especially.

Revisiting this lovely coffee shop in Melrose for a wonderful coffee and a delicious fruit scone. The cafe at the rear of the shop also does light lunches and snacks It has recently been freshened up and is looking good. Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, not only in the cafe but also in the drinks section at the front of the shop. They sell an excellent selection of wines, spirits, and gifts with an amazing choice of gins. If your in the area I can recommend this establishment, you won't be disappointed.

My fiancé and I stopped off for lunch and we were not disappointed. We both had cheese based toastier , cold drinks and a fruit scone “The best I’ve tasted” said my partner. The cafe lies at the back of the wine shop that offers a wide selection of guns , whiskies and Havana cigars too ( if that appeals). If I could I would recommend the whole town of Melrose and everyone on it - it’s a beautiful little gem that I can’t wait to return to.

Wouldn't have known there was a cafe at the back but for the tables and chairs outside. Friendly staff in both the wine shop and cafe. Ordered a soy latte, pot of tea and a yummy Empire biscuit - £5.90. Our dog was welcome inside but we chose to sit outside as it was in between showers - the shop awning shelters 2 of the 3 tables which is handy! Enjoyed a good 45 mins here chatting with a local who'd moved here from Sussex over 20 years ago and who recommended a couple of places to visit. Thank you!

Stumbled upon this wine store only to discover it is also a coffee shop & wine bar. Malcolm couldn't have given us a warmer welcome. He stayed open a little later than normal as he had a small function taking place inside the coffee shop. This meant we could sit outside in the Easter weekend sunshine and be served a couple of bottles of wine from their huge collection. We only had to pay the retail price as they don't charge corkage! Malcolm told us a bit about the history of the business and also gave us some recommendations on local restaurants for dinner. We returned on Monday morning for coffees. The men had bacon rolls of which there was no shortage of bacon! The ladies had a mixture of cheese or fruit scones which are all homemade. They were absolutely delicious. This place is a must if visiting Melrose or the surrounding areas.

Visited here today with my mum. We wanted coffee/cake. Place was very busy so it must be popular. We sat down at a dirty table. Both waitresses were quite nonchalant, laid back and when we asked if it was table service, the waitress said yes. Never cleared table of dirty plates. We sat for nearly 20 minutes waiting to be served. Other tables were served & cleared in this time. So we left. The place looks quite unkempt actually. Cosy, but not very clean. We went to another cafe nearby- GREENHOUSE CAFE and that was really great.

Located on the main market square in the centre of Melrose, this shop/cafe is a little gem. The shop front contains a large quantity of specialist whiskys. Then at the back of the shop is a little cafe. It is always a good sign when part of the table furniture is a solitaire board. I went for an afternoon tea and scone, both were simply done and tasty. We made a small detour to pop into Melrose, just because it's a nice little place and there are plenty of nice shops and places to have lunch. My other half had been here before for lunch and suggested going back. Especially in winter with no tables and chairs outside, anyone should be forgiven for thinking this is just a shop selling wine, beer and spirits. After entering you'll realise that at the back of the store there's a lunch room as well. I had the home made quiche, which was delicious. Also nibbled a bit of my daughter's small ploughman's platter, which consisted of crusty bread, butter, chutney and a large piece of mature cheddar. This corner is always busy with people drinking tea, coffee, wine etc always looks a friendly chatty place. I popped in last trip to have a look and to ask about gin, and not knowing a lot about different gins, mixers etc and had the pleasure to talk to a very knowledgeable young man.... I bought a bottle he recommended. He informed me of tasting sessions and to look out for dates. As I am not local I missed them all. (BTW the bottle I bought was all he said it would be and all my friends back home love it a bit too much)Skipping onto this trip I explained my lack of knowledge to the gentleman serving (the owner) to be asked do I have time to try a taster or two. We had a very civilised sitting with as he put it no obligation. (I did infact buy 2 out of the 4 we tried). Now because Abbey Fine Wines is very customer friendly/orientated I brought a friend back to have a look. We met the young man from my previous visit who turns out to be the Son in law, he asked if we had time and took us both for a tasting session where he explained various tasting notes. Well now between us we are the envy of our family and friends we now have a good selection of Gins. I know this review has turned out to be a bit of an essay but I think when a small businesses takes time and care of its customers as they have I think we have to announce this. We wandered in to take a look at the selection of whisky and gin on offer and found that there was also a little cafe at the rear. Lots of other choices available. Great wine accompanied at a very reasonable cost and also enjoyed sampling a gin or two from the craft options available. We would thoroughly recommend for purchasing both well priced wines and spirits and for lunch. Always happy to support local, family run businesses that provide great service and choice. The flat white coffee here is excellent. Recommend the roll in bacon - crispy and well packed . Seats outside get the sun, so nice to sit there if weather is good. Friendly and attentive staff. Looks good choice of wines too.

Located on the corner of Market Square, a good place to sit outside and watch the world go by. Decent coffee and sandwiches and the shop is worth browsing for the interesting quality wines. Can sometimes get very busy.

We were looking for a quick lunch. The soup and sandwiches were just the right proportion. It was fun to browse the wine selection while waiting for our food.

Found a seat outside , however we were passed by staff several times without any comment. When we did eventually catch someone to order a coffee we were told to go inside to order (and pay!) at the till. The scones are good but the cafe needs cleaned up a bit, the toilets are shabbyand the staff could work on their customer service!

Stopped here for a quick lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. We were not disappointed. I had the chicken liver pate and it was great. I usually find with this dish you are served 4 slices of toast and a MOUNTAIN of pate but this was not the case, we were served ample toast and even more on request. I think had a cheeky mars bar cake to follow and it was yummy. Just what we needed. it is a bit dark and gloomy inside but that didn't phase us. The table games on the tables are also a nice touch whilst you wait for your food.

Looked a great place to stop with an interesting menu and good range of teas and coffees. Outside was appealing but full. Inside dark and gloomy. Coffee lukewarm, platter unimaginative though nice quality pate and Brie. Bread very average. Service pleasant and there was a problem with my pate which was dealt with well.

On a nice day it is good to sit outside but every time we thought of visiting the outside seats were taken. So we went inside. Coffee and cakes are very nice and they have a range of gins, whiskies and wines for sale. The servers are friendly and very knowledgeable about their products. The one downside about the place is that inside it is in need of updating, decorating and spring cleaning (in my opinion). This aspect lets it down as otherwise service and food etc are very good. Therefore ,if possible sitting outside in the sunshine watching the world go by is the best option if you can get a seat.

We just wanted a small lunch - jacket potato etc - and sat outside since we had our rather huge dog with us. On seeing that it was starting to rain the young lady went to see if there was a suitable space inside - there was, and the soft seats were both good looking and comfortable. The food was just what we needed, and the fruit scone and carrot cake which followed both seemed home-made and were very tasty. There is a really good selection of wines and spirits for those who wish for something stronger! Conveniently situated at the corner of the market place nearest to the Abbey, the visit gave us everything that we needed, and the staff were all extremely pleasant, friendly and helpful. PS also known as Rhymes Fayre.

You can have coffee, lunch and/or a very nice bottle of wine whilst watching the world go by. The staff are always amazingly friendly and their range of gins is awesome.

Spent 4 days in Melrose and found this delightful family owned cafe. We had a delicious slice or three of toasted Selkirk bannock with our coffee. Was most impressed with the service and of the young man of whom the cafe belongs to he explained about their whisky side of the business and the whisky tasting events they hold and my husband most interested with that. Found they had a great menu of home made meals and the price was certainly value for money. Nothing to be faulted in this establishment

Despite some negative reviews, we loved it here. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we walked in and were served quickly and efficiently. The menu isn’t extensive but I don’t find that a problem. What we had was very nice. Very clean and a lovely atmosphere, where locals clearly come on a regular basis. Would recommend.

Had been looking forward to my visit made specifically to try this place out. Noone else in except the numerous staff all talking away happily to each other. After looking at menu which looked fabulous I went up to order as none of staff looked vaguely interested in taking my order. No sit down we will come to you. I sat and waited and the place started to fill. 3 other tables came in and someone came from behind the counter to clear dirty dishes that had been on a table when I went in. Finally someone came to serve me and I commented on my wait to which I was given a story about the coffee machine not working which was why staff were chatting. Hmmmmn really. Then as of course luck would have it they were out of the very thing I was there to have. I will give them another chance another day as the menu was interesting but the service was shockingly bad especially if they then are having to tell people no coffee! Zero recognition of interaction with customers and I speak as someone with a long hospitality career. Great location great menu but lacking in customer connection.

Late afternoon cuppa and cake. Nice choice of cake, can recommend gluten free carrot and empire biscuits. Pleasant helpful staff. Clean and bright, tastefully furnished . Looks like a nice lunch menu, reasonably priced. Will definately be back

What a great find! Everything homemade and absolutely delicious. Very pleasant welcoming staff and just wish we lived closer as we would make it a regular place to eat.
