A Taste of Sahara in Brighton and Hove

I visited this restaurant & was hugely disappointed. On entering there was a strong smell of hippy incense sticks??? This restaurant was cold, we had to keep our jackets on throughout the meal. One of the reasons my friend recommended was because it’s bring your own bottle. I wasn’t that hungry & only wanted a few appetisers. The man who obviously runs this restaurant told us as it was BYOB we had to order a main meal each!!! Even though I wasn’t that hungry. I’ve never been told in a restaurant what I can or cannot eat? I ordered the Meze Sharing Platter & my friend ordered an Aubergine stew. We asked for couscous but he told us that was impossible as rice is mixed in. When the dish came the rice was completely separate to the Aubergine? The stew was Luke warm. The sharing Meze plate was ridiculous. Considering this is a Moroccan/Lebanese restaurant on the Meze plate was a tiny spring roll & tiny samosa? I didn’t realise it was a taste of Hong Kong & Mumbai too ???? The Meze plate states it comes with Haloumi cheese I was expecting at least a couple of chunks. It was a very thin piece of bread with a scrapping of cheese inside. It didn’t even taste like Haloumi!! Everything about this restaurant is wrong. The Guy was rude & seemed stressed out every time we asked him about food on the menu. He rushed us out at the end, opened the doors wide open , it was freezing. He obviously didn’t want us in there. It’s not cheap either - £20 for a main course. This place is a complete rip off. Why anyone would go here !!! There’s so many other lovely places nearby Kambis, Archiepelgos. Also if you want decent Moroccan food, with a lovely ambience, friendly staff, the most delicious food done properly go to The Blue Man in the North Laines. In fact the guy who served us should definitely go to Blue Man & get some tips he definitely needs them!

We came for a hen party and could not have been more pleased! Great communication in the run up, the atmosphere was brilliant, staff friendly and the food was amazing. We loved the sharing platters and great that it’s byob. We are very grateful, thank you so much!

Came here for our stag do. Great food, great service and BYOB! Sabri went the extra mile to make it a super special evening for us, would highly recommend.

We were here for evening dinner on Friday 29 March. We always book a table here when we visit Brighton. It’s one of our favourite restaurants! Sabri and the staff are always so welcoming, helpful and kind. My wife has a gluten, dairy and egg free diet, but it is never a problem and we know there is always something delicious on the menu. The food is full of flavour, fresh and plentiful. The restaurant is cosy with tasteful decor. The ambience is always lovely and we look forward to our visits. Thank you for the outstanding food and a lovely evening. Looking forward to seeing you on our next visit!

Wonderful restaurant, food and service !

Had a lovely time at this restaurant - charming host - delicious food and fabulous service. Loved the Halloumi starter - a very inventive way of serving it. Our Kofta and mixed Kebabs served with rice, salad and tzatziki were delicious and we left feeling very happy. Will return soon!

We had a dinner here after our team meeting in Brighton, for 45 people. The food was absolutely amazing, definitely recommended for large groups. The food was delicious, and everyone loved it and complimented the choice. Equally as good was the service, all the food was served together as a group, and Sabri and staff were excellent hosts. Don't be put off that it is BYO alcohol either, there is a very good off license almost next door, and the staff will give wine buckets and glass to drink from. I cannot fault a single thing about the place

We got here about 4pm and we're the only 2 people inside. But we didn't care at all! The decor is gorgeous and reminded us of our travels through the middle east and north Africa. The manager was amazing and went up and beyond! Food was gorgeous 😍 he gave us recommendations and they didn't disappoint. We will be back!

Excellent value for money and the food choices are varied and very tasty. The atmosphere is great and the service is great too. Buy a bottle of wine or some beers in Waitrose just across the road as they don’t serve alcohol in this restaurant. No corkage charge either! Wished I’d left room for dessert but I ate too much as the food portion sizes are large. No complaints from me and I’ll definitely return when I’m next in Brighton.

Had dinner there. As it was on valentines day, there was a set menu. The full platter starter was amazing and the main chicken skewers was very good. Service was amazing. Only problem was the coke I had was full of of ice and barely any coke in it. Other than that would definitely recommend for a dinner there!

Wonderful food & great atmosphere. They were almost fully booked but managed to squeeze us in. Sabri gave us excellent service going so far as to even get some tips from the chef on how to make the best hummous. Would definitely recommend!

We had a fantastic meal here! Absolutely great portion and food cooked beautifully. We both had the Sultans mixed kebabs and it was great! We shared a dessert as we were so full. Great friendly service too. Would 100% recommend!!!

A small and cosy restaurant in the middle of Brighton - although it has to be said it was a little cold inside, could’ve done with the heating being turned on. Anyway, the food was cooked to perfection; the meats in the tagines were juicy and tender and the kofta was perfectly cooked, without being dry. The buttery rice was such a lovely and perfect accompaniment to the dish in the cold water, every mouthful was warming. Dessert could’ve been better; the baklava was too dry and personally not to my liking. But if you like Mint tea, then you’ll love their offering! Served up in authentic crockery with fresh mint leaves, it was the perfect end to a fabulous meal. Highly recommended and will be visiting soon again.

Fantastic food - we had a sharing platter so got a little taste of everything and can't fault one thing we ate. It's also BYOB so bring a bottle of your favourite wine and enjoy!

We came here for our girls Christmas meal and had the £30 Arabian feast … wow. The meat was so soft and each course had very generous portions. The staff are attentive and had a lovely rapport with each customer.

An unbelievable experience! The waiting staff could not have been more accommodating for us on our pre-Christmas dinner evening meal. There were times where we were overzealous and the waiting staff calmed us down politely. The food was wonderful and there is a reason why we return year on year. Thank you to the floor staff and chefs. We will be back!

What a find this restaurant is, it is simply remarkable. Firstly its a BYO restaurant (bring your own bottle, if you want to drink alcohol ), that of course is appealing but it is the service and of course the food that is the star....

This must have been the worst couscous I have ever had! I ordered a vegetarian couscous royal was delivered one with all the meat in it! Not just that! There was a spoon hidden under all the food! This was outrageous! Do not order from there!

Loved the grilled seabass. Next time I will go straight to main dish to share and order little side dishes . We ended ordering too much with the mezze for 2 and it had the same patatoes as the fish, and a tagine with couscous . We were 3. The mezze is a bit expensive for what it is Perhaps suits a bigger group although is 2 of each. Good atmosphere, music and service.

We came to Taste of Sahara for a Birthday celebration with a bunch of friends. A delightful evening of great food and lovely service from the friendly and welcoming staff. Very hard to choose from the menus but we all chose well and enjoyed everything from Mezes to tagines and skewers of aromatic meats. We bought wine with us, as you can take your own alcoholic beverages and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Will return again very soon! Went for dinner and the staff were so friendly and attentive and welcoming. I had the chicken tagine and hummus and then wanted the honey pot for dessert but as they didn’t have it they gave me some baklava for free. Such good customer service!

Had a fabulous time here! We were a large group celebrating 2 birthdays and the staff went above and beyond to look after us. Food was incredible, great for veggies and meat eaters!

We were a fairly large party but the staff didn't let that bother them at all - they were so helpful and friendly with us the whole evening! There was a variety of tasty food available, the portions were huge (which was great in terms of value for money), plus they provided takeaway containers if we couldn't finish. A few members of the party were vegetarians/vegans so they made sure that amongst all the sharing platters there were things we could have which was really appreciated. Will definitely go back, not just for the food but for the atmosphere and people :)
