We ordered take out from here. Arrived a few minutes after told to and we were made to wait for another 25 minutes. The food was good. But we were charged twice for an item and now can’t get through to them on the phone to resolve.

Once again great food and attentive service, the new menu caters for all tastes and levels of heat. Will be back again to try the other new dishes.

Excellent and lovely new menu, service was of its usual high standard. Went on valentine’s night and the extra touch’s on the table made it feel a more special night. Big shout out to Sat n the team

Exceptional INDIAN cuisine with a difference. Service SUPERB. Have been as a couple and with friends 3 times now and can't fault anything. Very different interesting dishes, made to the exact taste and "heat" that you ask for. The Staff are really attentive - Brilliant venue

I asked if it was possible to have an area in the bar and the restaurant for a reunion of friends that I was arranging. The manager reserved some tables in the bar area and also in the restaurant and said that we could close the doors across the bar to give us a private area. As it turned the turnout was smaller than first thought so we all sat in the restaurant at one long table which had been made for us. I asked if we could have a selection of starters and main courses from the Indian menu put on the table for us all to share as we were talking so much. Choosing from the menu kept being forgotten. This was agreed at a fixed price per person. The food was delicious as it has been the other times my partner and I have eaten there and everybody was happy with the choices and in particular remarked how good the bhajis were. I would have loved to have given 5 stars as we really couldn’t have been looked after any better. The only reason I didn’t was that the restaurant was cold and everyone commented on it. Thank you New Times, I would happily recommend you for a function and definitely for a meal.

While from the outside this Indian restaurant just looks like a pub, 7 Spices have created a proper restaurant to the rear of the pub, so you can enjoy your curry away from the pub crowd. The food is very different from your run of the mill curry house, with some interesting dishes which are perhaps more authentic Indian curries than we're used to in the UK. There was a good choice of vegetarian dishes, the paneer tikka was delicious (melt-in-the-mouth paneer), and the kofta main course was also very tasty. We received a complementary garlic naan as well, which was one of the best naans I'd tasted - not thick and chewy like so many. I would thoroughly recommend this if you're in the area.

This is a very strange place; a nice pub on the front and a nice restaurant on the back. The food was amazing, the service was diabolical. Even after we managed to get the bill it took half an hour and several requests to pay the bill. Tried to order a drink at the bar and despite 4 girls and a man behind it they were more interested in chatting, collecting empties and going in the back to the restaurant. Gave up in the end. A real shame.

We had been meaning to try this venue since it became an Indian Restaurant and eventually got around to it. We are very pleased that we did too, the food was excellent and the was also, staff were very friendly and helpfull.

Superb authentic INDIAN food. Unique flavours to each dish. Not glutonous. Brilliant - Will go away in the very near future - Had a tak-away since and that too was excellent.

I love the range and styles of Indian sub-continent food. We eat Bengali style food at home and often eat out trying other Asian cuisines with sometimes disappointing experiences. So what a joy to discover 7 Spices! Each dish prepared with thoughtful and masterful balance of spices by the Chefs. I tried Mutton Rara, Goan Fish Curry and Murg Patiyala. They were deeply satisfying! The wine list is good and fairly priced, cocktails were fun and atmosphere was supported by fully engaged staff and other customers enjoying their meals. If you like a proper Curry, just go.

The ‘New Times’ restaurant was a stalwart of the East Essex scene - producing a carvery over decades which attracted a loyal following from miles around. While unfashionable now for a certain section of the Customer base it was a faithful and reliable offering, which I have to say I always enjoyed. Sadly time and tide wait for no one and the previous owners retired earlier in the year. Grays took their time to relent but the restaurant has now reopened in its current incarnation. Went with my mother and had a fairly enjoyable experience. Service was attentive and the decor certainly an upgrade on its predecessor. Menu is reminiscent of a higher need Indian offering with a good selection of dishes but perhaps eschewing the ‘cookie cutter’ approach of some of the local competition. I had Butter chicken which was gorgeous although my Mum’s Mutton curry she did find a little tough. Nevertheless the restaurant was spotless and the decor seemed to illustrate they mean business. It’s always tough to reinvent such an icon but I have to say they were off to a good start. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the vicinity

We finally have the most amazing Indian food restaurant near Colchester. Being a vegetarian I was happy to see so many vegetarian options to choose from. Dal's, paneer dishes, corn karari tikki , soya chap, Biryani's are extremely delicious. A beautiful restaurant with ample car park on site is an added bonus. The restaurant team are very kind and friendly, their service is no less than a Michelin star restaurant. A MUST go to restaurant if you are looking for a high quality dining experience.
