22 The Square Restaurant in Calderdale

Came for new years and although the food was very nice, I felt the service was lacking, especially in comparison with 22 the square in CrossHills. We had meatballs and creamy mushrooms to start. Both were delicious. Followed by two pasta dishes- one carbonara, one mushroom pasta. The food was really lovely. We did need to ask for things a few times e.g water and cocktails. And it didnt feel the staff are as friendly as its Crosshills counterpart.

Had a lovely meal here with my husband,it was cosy and we had great food.The guy serving was friendly and helpful.

Lovely evening out. Special mention for the waiter named as 'Super Dave' on the bill, he was welcoming, attentive and not too much in the way of fuss. Pistachio ice cream (as Dave informed us) is hand made by the chefs and was exceptional.

I booked for my partners 70th a table of 12 and can I just say Bill and Dave were amazing such patience with me as I kept changing my mind about things 😂..the evening was fantastic our guests commented on the food which is always good to hear..no rush for us to leave I definitely recommend and unfortunately Bill we will definitely be back 😂...why could we not your hospitality was top notch ...a massive thank you for making our evening extra special x

Amazing food, sounds cliché, but honestly the best fillet steak I've ever had. So perfect even my fussy girlfriend loved it. Service was impeccable bill and dave were fantastic. Best restaurant in halifax.

I went as part of a large celebration party. Food was pre-ordered. We had 3 courses. Each course was served promptly and was nicely presented and was delicious. Staff were friendly and a good atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.

Brilliant food, very reasonable prices

Fabulous food and service, great staff, but very noisy due to acoustics.

I am not vegan, but my husband is a no oil vegan which pretty much narrows our options down to zero going out together in most vegan places in Halifax. However, after speaking to Anthony and Dave, we were assured that this wasn't at all an issue as they were more than willing to accomodate him. That is what we call a proper chef! My husband's pasta was very tasty and my meal was amazing. Thank you so very much! We will definitely come back.

Superb food and excellent service

If you want to pay good money for below average, bland and salty food, have people (I suspect regulars) who come in after you be served with the same starters before you are, have some silly man barking orders from one end of the room to the staff on the other end of that room and also have your good lady made to feel uncomfortable throughout due to being looked at by the chef staff every 2 seconds well this is the place for you, twice in one night for us, first time and last time.

2 for £22 is great value, as is the standard menu. Quick and friendly service. This is rapidly becoming my favourite place for lunch.

The food is great. Steak done precisely how i wanted it, staff was nice and made good conversations, however they did seem stressed out at certain times.

First visit and it was an overall lovely experience. Table of 16 people booked for a 30th birthday. We sent a preorder. The menu online is not reflective of their current menu, so I suggest to ring them. Generous portion of food (thank you to the chefs for the lovely meals) and everyone there were attentive - Niamh, Dave, Bill, Georgia, Khalid. Only had one photo of the food and it's the tiramisu. I'd recommend the garlic bread, seabass or pizza Nduja, and also the sticky toffee pudding.

Always a nice place for a meal, great food and service. The waiter this evening was particularly great - very attentive.

Food really nice, but I wasn't keen where I was sat next to a door and where people were passing continuously. And lots of shouting at staff next to customers.

Have had take-away food from here many times. Specifically, gluten free, vegan pizzas. Probably the best around and reasonably priced. Pleasant staff, happy to help and food arrives in good time.

6 people attended for my father in law's birthday On arrival the front of house greeted us in a warm and friendly manner and upon looking around, the restaurant was busy and had a very lively atmosphere, people chatting and having a great time. On being seated we were informed or meals may be delayed due to a large party of some 56 upstairs and were thankful for the clear communication. We ordered and our starters were on our tables within fifteen minutes, considering what we had been told about delays, we were amazed. I had the fried goats cheese with home made toasted bread, the starter was to die for. The goats cheese was fried just enough and the balsamic glaze was just balanced enough to bring the cheese down, this tied in with the cherry tomato and rocket made for a sumptuous starter. For main I had the 8oz fillet steak with Dianne sauce with a side of chips and onion rings. The chips were slightly below crispy and the onion rings were very greasy with only a hint of the onion coming through, but, this paled in comparison to the star of the show, the steak, ordered medium rare was right on the money. Tender, juicy and seasoned to perfection with the Diane sauce made this the best steak I have ever eaten. I just wish I'd ordered the 10oz because it was over too quickly. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. We will be back!

Steak was just average, pizza and pasta was amazing

Read in the Halifax courier they have one of the top 10 breakfasts in Halifax. I was not disappointed. Enjoyed every mouth full. Coffee amazing too. Put the prices are extremely reasonable I would be happy to pay more for this quality. Well done all!

The pizza I ordered to pick up from takeaway was a total no no it was very very salty and was going to go in on Tuesday for a meal but if the pizza is anything to go by . Well no thanks

The most gorgeous garlic chicken mushroom mozzerela calzone!! It was massive so no need for a starter or sides. Good price and good selection of drinks too. Lovely service and will definitely return!

Omg so far this is the best and most accommodating restaurants I’ve been, the deaf staff was so warm and welcoming. I felt safe and I really enjoyed being there. I will definitely come back.

Have visited twice in recent weeks on a Sunday afternoon. The front of house staff are generally very friendly and helpful. Food is great and the portions generous. We've mainly had pizza and pasta dishes, but they also have a children's menu and my daughter had the fish goujons which were excellent. Will definitely be visiting again.

Had some good vegan options: pizzas with vegan cheese, mezze board, bean tagliatelle etc etc

Can't go wrong. Treat yourself to a cocktail, they're decent. Basic Italian food is fair and well presented but anything from the specials board, you WON'T be disappointed! Venison, give that a try or fillet steak, in fact just order the whole Specials menu! Can be pricey but worth it and Raj+Staff will look after you!

We rang for a last minute table and so glad one was available. Easy access, lovely ambience and very friendly, helpful staff. The food was amazing - very well cooked, presented beautifully and so very tasty, absolutely delicious! House white wine was cold and crisp, just how I like it and hubby had Spanish Madri Lager, very refreshing and went well with our food. Would definately highly recommend and we will definately be back- family in tow!! Thank you so much for a wonderful Tuesday tea! xx

Baby shower event. Came here with a group for a friend's baby shower and had a sit down meal. Food was lovely with generous portions, staff very friendly and welcoming. Drinks a bit pricy however. All in all would recommend 👌

Had a wonderful evening for a member of our team’s Retirement event. The room was set up beautifully and we were able to arrange for balloons and flowers to be delivered to venue prior to our arrival and the staff were really welcoming and attentive. Food was excellent and given our large group they managed to serve everybody quickly. It was a very enjoyable night and such a nice location. We would certainly arrange a repeat visit in the future. Great food, very reasonably priced and a very varied menu selection. Thank you to everyone involved at 22 The Square 😊

Three course meal was lovely. Service was good. Atmosphere was busy. Price was good. But the reason I gave only three stars is simply because I booked in advance with specific instructions not to be seated next to the main door. Having dined here before I knew that tables next to the door were affected by draft and could be cold. Sadly when we arrived the only table left available to us was right next to the front door. My request had fallen on deaf ears!! The wind blew in every time a customer left the restaurant. One to be aware of!

Ad a nice meal but I thought the wine was a little dear at £9 a glass , perhaps I should get out more been indoors to much.

The lunchtime two courses for £22 doesn't really stack up. Cheaper to get the items individually. Not a deal. However the food is good and nicely presented and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Think they should do a mid week lunchtime deal cheaper than £22 imo.

Great menu tonight 2 dine for £22. Number of meal choices making it easy and we all got what we wanted. Food was good and always good service.

Went lastnight with my partner to celebrate our anniversary, and the food was amazing. The atmosphere was good too, it was really busy which is nice to see. The only issue I had was the table we were sat at, near a service door which leads to the restaurant upstairs. I did ask to move but all the tables were taken or booked. It didn’t put us off though because the food was perfect. Can’t wait to go again.

I've been going to this restaurant for years. Always liked the food and the service until recently. I ordered a takeaway burger, took one bite and found a big hair. This put me off my food and I didn't eat it. I phoned to let them know and was promised a large discount off my next order which is fair enough. When I ordered again a few weeks later they gave me 10% off, which I didn't think was a large discount because I was only buying a takeaway for myself but nevermind and I accepted it anyway, and when I went to collect my food one of the chefs was staring at me the whole time I was there! I assumed he was angry with me because I complained about his choice of burger toppings. Anyway it is a shame because if this is how they treat regular customers by trying to make them feel uncomfortable then unfortunately I won't be going back and that is why they get 1 star

I was very disappointed. I found it too expensive for the quality of the food. My steak was over done , would have complained but we were so hungry after waiting an hour. Will not be coming back.😞. You need to do better.

We were part of a wedding party. Service was excellent and food very good. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly.

Have been here before and had reasonably positive experiences. Very recently I had an absolute shocker of an experience. Firstly we were taken upstairs to our table and were the only people there, it was cold and there was absolutely no atmosphere. Fair enough if they were busy but it would've been good to be told this when we booked (over a week in advance). The waiting staff didn't know the difference between any of the wines on the list. The individual in question seemed reasonably new and so I'd say it was the fault of management for failing to properly explain the wine list. Starters all arrived at wildly different times, so much so that by the time the last plate arrived, the first few were cold. Main meals were average. Seafood spaghetti was incredibly bland. Pappardelle was good. Very strange that the menu included a carbonara with penne. Ordered a pina colada at the end which was actually quite good and somewhat redeemed what was an otherwise poor experience. Unlikely to be returning anytime soon.

Great front of house staff added to the pleasure of the evening but I won't order the fillet steak again... scraggy end for £20 - didn't complain because it was someone else's celebration and didn't want to upset them but would normally return to the kitchen..

Food was very nice, but I do think it is rather overpriced. Staff were attentive and did a great job.

Welcoming from start to finish. No hurry to eat. Straight to table. Meal could not fault. King paws in galic. Followed by sea food pasta meal. Tia Maria coffee"s first class

Its a lovely place , visually, however, we were disappointed with the food & service .. It was my birthday & this was a treat from my Son & his partner... Bread was brought to the table, 3 slices, only 2 butter pats & we had to ask for side plates . My main was okay , chicken a la creme £15, but what passes as veg never ceases to amaze me ! Restaurant's always want you to order sides to bulk out the platter..Just give me a plate of food. My Son & his partner ordered the Veg Pasta Ariabatta & added chicken on one & chorizo on the other for £2 extra.. Both dishes were bland. I tasted the chorizo .it was fatty ,smokey with not a hint of spice. We were only approached & asked if we enjoyed the food when the table was cleared & it was time to pay. They offered to cook the dishes again...we declined. It wasn't until my Son wrote a review ,that a 10% discount was offered for a future visit. We won't be returning.. My Son filled up on the pizza bread & tiny side of chunky chips he'd ordered. All in all , it was disappointing .. Restaurant's are just opening up .They should be trying harder to make it an enjoyable experience, so , you'll return.
