Honestly think all these reviews are fake. The food is really terrible. It was definitely frozen and heated up. We ordered 2 burgers. Think hockey puck. There can’t be a proper chef there. We were 1 of 2 tables, and rest if Restuarant was empty. That’s got to say something. We are sick from the meat. Extremely disappointed and very expensive. What a cheek !!

We were gifted a lovely Gin Experience from my friend. Unfortunately, even though I booked this well in advance the staff seemed to be left baffled and unprepared for our visit. There were three gins to try and we were briefly briefed on the gins. However, left to guess our way through the garnishes and no appliances to pick them up with. It was a disappointing evening as we were really looking forward to an ‘experience’ as advertised but was left feeling underwhelmed. It was evident that our arrival for this type of booking was forgotten as we were asked to pay even though my booking was attached with the gift card code and type of booking noted. May I add, at the time of booking, I was booked in for an Afternoon Tea when I indeed did not book for Tea. I had to call+email in and ask someone to change this so there wouldn’t be any confusion. There were indeed plenty confusions. As a regular I was shocked by the lack of attention to detail I associate with 144. I truly hope, should there be a next visit, my experience will be as plain sailing as it used to be. Your prompt response would be appreciated. - Judy 144, regular

The breakfast buffet they serve is simply amazing. Throughout the morning every item is kept available and the staff quickly refills anything that is about to run out. The table service is on point and the place truly sets itself apart with its atmosphere.

I took my boyfriend here for lunch for his 27th birthday after visiting here previously. The food was lovely and the service was outstanding! Dennis did a great job in making sure we had everything we needed and they even brought out a cake ad candle for my boyfriend! Couldn’t recommend any more! If you’re looking for a lovely restaurant with brilliant service then definitely book!

I had a very enjoyable afternoon tea with a friend in the summer. The food and service were both excellent. I wanted to return to host a friends surprise baby shower and was not able to book on the website for a reason unbeknown to me. I therefore emailed 144 on the Hill, but with no response. After the fourth unanswered email I contacted them via Instagram, again with no response. I can only assume the venue has changed hands or there is now less resource allocated to customer service and booking. This is disappointing as I thoroughly enjoyed my last trip and would have like to have hosted my friends surprise party here. That said I can whole heartedly recommend the harbour house hotel, which is next door. Both the food and service are exceptional. If you don’t mind a chain, the Ivy in Richmond is also very good and very responsive. In response to the restaurants comment- I added comments on the social media account because I had not received a response after sending a number of emails. I post publicly and unsurprisingly I get promptly responses whilst my thread is active and giving the restaurant an opportunity to discredit my comments. I am then able to make my reservation. That said, after sending on my emails for 144 to review why I had not received a response initially, I am back to no responses……..! Unbelievable… I have therefore reduced the rating from a 2 to a 1.

Well this was a great treat , garden terrace . The selection of cocktails was just what was needed, the team where on hand to assist with any questions we had, After selecting our cocktails we accompanied them with a delicious selection of light bites. I have to say the choices on the menu was great and we choose a good selection to get a taste of the flavours . The food was hot wee presented on the plate . Yummy! The service was efficient we even fit in another cheeky couple of cocktails. The atmosphere was pleasant friendly staff made us feel welcome. It’s a must visit.

Don't come here for cocktails. I asked for a sazerac, which I had to explain. I was given a glass amaretto. My advice to them if you can't do cocktails don't have a cocktail menu!

I had booked afternoon tea for my grandma’s birthday and I feel like I could not have picked a better location to have it. First of all, its an amazing location in richmond and super easy to find. Theres lots of parking and even disabled spaces. If you are eating in the restaurant, you can get 4 hours free parking. Honestly such a beautiful place and can understand why people would want to have their wedding here. Very traditional decor with quirky subtleness. I do have to mention we did arrive 30 mins before our booking time, but it was no issue for them at all and made us feel comfortable straight away. We were served by the lovely Ramila until her shift ended, and she was very attentive. It was also a stroke of luck that it happened to be the hotel’s 150th anniversary and gave a glass of prosecco for my mother and grandmother, and a mocktail for me complimentary. It was lovely for them to do that for their guests to celebrate. They were also very kind as to present my grandmother with a chocolate treat with happy birthday on it with a candle. It is small touches like this that really make a business. The food and desserts were fantastic. Not to mention they had small decorations on the desserts for Wimbledon. I am pescatarian and they easily accommodated my needs by doubling the options i could have with the sandwiches. You can even have extra sandwiches if you wish. Also a big thank you to all the staff we had the pleasure of interacting with. We really appreciate the great service and hospitality. My family and I will definitely be recommending and be back in the future.

I was here for a baby shower over the weekend, and everything was exceptional. The staff had kindly created name place cards which included our respective food orders, they did some printing, nothing was too much trouble! Thank you to everyone at 144 On The Hill for making the baby shower a hassle free experience. We'll be back!

Disappointing experience for brunch. The egg dishes were okay but the pancakes taste like they are from a package. Food presentation and atmosphere is nice. Coffee was good.

I recently dined at 144 On The Hill and had an outstanding experience. From the moment we arrived, Ana and Roberto provided exceptional service, making us feel like honored guests. The Sunday roast was delicious, with succulent meats and perfectly roasted vegetables. The live music added a charming touch to the evening. A standout dish was the chili cauliflower starter—amazingly flavorful and perfectly cooked. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with tasteful decor and cozy lighting. Overall, 144 On The Hill offers a perfect blend of great food, impeccable service, and a charming atmosphere. I can't wait to return!

Loved everything about it best afternoon tea I have had..

Excellent experience. Staff is professional, welcoming and friendly and accommodated all our requests. Superb venue, delicious food and wine and wonderful location...what else could you ask for a perfect day out with friends? I particularly liked the outside terrace and the beautiful lounge, where we ate with our four-legged friend enjoying the quiet and comfort of the vintage sofas and cosy atmosphere. We'll definitely visit again!

Love this place, the deco and the food is quite good. The steak ciabatta is tasty. Coffee is just alright. The parking is free if you eat here. Just need to register the license plate.

My family and I enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at 144 on the hill. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were very tasty and beautifully presented. We were looked after very well by a friendly and attentive staff member Ramila. We came here to celebrate a special birthday and we could not have chosen a better place. Would definitely recommend to others and hope to come back soon. Thank you!

Great experience, a perfect place to have a romantic or a family brunch

The Restaurant was absolutely brilliant! The service was immaculate, the atmosphere is cosy and relaxed. It was quite busy at the time when we were there, but it did not feel like it. The food was Delightful.

I celebrated my sisters Birthday at 144 On the Hill. It truly is one of the best Afternoon Teas. The food was delicious(as always), and the service was incredible (Thanks Ricky!). A 10/10 every time!

If you're an alcoholic carnivore great, but if you're a vegetarian go elsewhere, and all the desserts contained alcohol. The root vegetable pie was a sloppy version of a veggie cottage pie - I like roast spuds but no, theirs are (still) cooked in beef fat. I could have had a yorkshire pud but no one told me this. Luckily, I wasn't charged for my 2 carrots and a few leaves of kale. Hubby enjoyed his roast beef, and they did omit the limoncello from his pud but still charged £11 for it! Nothing nice - no tomato juice, or glass of Whispering Angel and my carrot cake pud was like something from a Costco traybake. The decor is as dated as the menu. Certainly won't be returning

Had visitors visiting the UK that wanted to try a Sunday roast. Booked here as it was very convenient for all in our group. Ordered the roast sharing platter for 2. The roast was excellent, pork, beef and chicken, with all the trimmings. Very attentive service from our waiters Aglan and later on Tyler. Manager was very attentive also. A great Sunday afternoon.

Beautiful environment. Staff were courteous. Great menu albeit some of the dishes lacked flavour. Low lights were the risotto and mac and cheese. Highlights were the duck and both desserts.

Should be a lovely place - beautiful venue etc. Service is pretty slow and the sandwiches from afternoon tea were really dry. We waited for quite some time for them even though you needed to pre-order your afternoon tea.

Wonderful restaurant - we had an amazing brunch , the staff were friendly, the dishes well executed without being too over the top but still had a wow factor. We stayed on for an extra drink because it was so relaxing.

A warm welcome and friendly service. The restaurant had a brand-new menu, which had nice variety and plenty of vegetarian options and the food is also quite reasonably priced. Quality of the food was really good. The only minor (and it is very minor) is that the restaurant feels like a hotel restaurant rather than a standalone restaurant? This was highlighted by them, setting the tables for breakfast for the morning while we were still dining. However, the food and the service warrants this place to be a good standalone restaurant.

Went for a Friday lunch. Noticed the greeter looked my wife up and down. Thought that's a bit unnecessary. The restaurant was void of any diners, we were the only people there at 12:30. After an hour a couple of other parties arrived. The atmosphere was still not great despite the slightly loud music. The service from our waitress was excellent. The food did take a long time to arrive, was over 35 minutes. However all the food and drinks were wonderfully presented. Everything was very tasty too, really enjoyed my meal.

Great place for a tasty lunch and cocktail or three

Beautifully designed restaurant, 144 On The Hill Restaurant and Bar is part of the Richmond Hill hotel with separate entrance. You can start in the bar outside or in the club type rooms before dinner. As we were staying the the hotel we decided to have dinner here and it was delicious in a bright and comfortable room. Lovely service and our highlights included the burrata, salmon and the pina colada cheesecake.

Lovely staff, beautiful decor, very comfortable beds and a friendly atmosphere. The food in particular was excellent, particularly the breakfast buffet which is the best we’ve ever had in a hotel!

Spent the evening at a private drinks party for friends celebrating their wedding weekend. The staff could not be more wonderful, providing drinks, passed appetizers throughout the night. They were attentive and thoughtful, especially Nida, who made sure everyone always had a drink! The ambience is a 10 for a nice summer evening outside on the terrace and a stones throw away from some of the most gorgeous views of Richmond park and the Thames!

An excellent place to dine for any daytime function or evening soirée. Customer service is by far the best yet with an exceptional menu delivered by Head Chef Jessen. Outstanding on every level - very highly recommend!

Lovely bar and restaurant, have been here a few times now. Great service from Nida who recommended our food choices and looked after us during the evening! Cocktails and mocktails went down well. Also huge upside as the venue is dog friendly.

We went for the Sunday roast. We enjoyed the food and found the portions were generous. Their vegan option for the roast is a nut roast pie. They have live music on Sunday afternoons.

One aspect that truly stands out is their afternoon tea, which surpasses all expectations. Moreover, the addition of a carefully curated cocktail menu enhances the overall experience, leaving us with a desire to return time and time again.

I went to celebrate the anniversary with my partner and the service was wonderful, the service at the bar has been spectacular, a team that since we arrived was attentive to what we needed, I highlight the attention of Rocio the hostess, the waitresses Dillsad and Nida and those from the bar, Seby and Sam. I recommend a dish that I ordered, which was the Gourmet wagyu burger, and the cocktail "the monarch" (in honor of King Charles III)

Outstanding customer service, tasty food and a really nice atmosphere.

Nestled atop Richmond Hill, this restaurant boasts an incredible decor, good food as well as attentive and friendly staff (Patricia in particular). I had the Prawn cocktail as a starter, the Seafood Linguine as a main and the Frangipane as my dessert. All were nice, but not spectacular. The prawn cocktail sauce was sublime, I must add. The flavour of the pasta wasn't as bold as I'd of liked, but overall the food was tasty.

Went to 144 on the Hill last night to celebrate my hubby's birthday. Staff on duty were so attentive and pleasant. Food and ambience was lovely. Shout out to Sai, Nida and Sam who helped make our evening really enjoyable.

I took my partner here for afternoon tea on his birthday. We had an excellent time. The staff - Roxanne and Chris - went out of their way to welcome us and to make the experience feel special. The afternoon tea itself was fantastic with beautiful freshly prepared sandwiches and fresh warm scones (baked in-house). Highly recommend for dinner, lunch or a special occasion - we’ll be back soon!

Lovely Sunday roast at the 144, brilliant service and food throughout our meal, especially as all the staff remembered our last visit. Roberto and management staff were very attentive, and made it an enjoyable experience.

Really like sitting in the bar area here. The bartenders make great cocktails, the service is friendly and efficient, and the food is good too. It’s also nice in the summer when you can sit outside.

We’ve been here a few times and have always been impressed by the food, drink and service. The staff are always attentive and helpful. We popped in for a drink and desert this evening and Dillsad and Seby did a great job in sorting out delicious cocktails and pudding. We will be back!

Only praise for our experience on Monday afternoon at 144 on the Hill. The crowning glory are the staff. Friendly, observant, effective and efficient. The food was very good as was the ambience. I like the lounge area too and will be back to use it as an area to enjoy a few singles malts in future.

Came here for cocktails with my wife on a Friday afternoon, served by Dabiba & Sebi. The drinks were spot on from the barman and a nice atmosphere. It was my birthday and to my surprise, they sang happy birthday and complimented me with a brownie cake. Bar was clean and ambience was spot on. Will surely be back again

We came for dinner but arrived early for a drink at the bar. Then had a very awkward interaction when being moved from the bar to the dining room, whereby a waitress stopped us (including the hostess) to demand I pay for the drinks at the bar immediately. I asked if the bar tab could be moved to the table tab as the bar already already had my credit card.. this request was refused for a reason which no one could seem to articulate. We waited for 2 minutes whilst the waitress retrieved my card from behind the bar then proceeded to try and open the card safety box in front of - bearing in mind, this is all happening in the middle of the restaurant with the hostess looking embarrassed but seemingly unable to help. Finally, after what felt like 10 minutes of the staff fighting with the card box (which simply would not open) they told us to just sit down and they’d bring my the bill once they had the card. It was such an awkward and bizarre way start to a meal. I would advise the management to update their policy to move the bar tab to the table tab - as is the case in literally ever restaurant Ive been to - or at least let people sit down before immediately bringing the drinks bill to them. On the plus side, after we sat down the waiter was was friendly and efficient. The food was good, with some interesting options on the menu, although the cheeseboard was basic and lacked any interesting cheeses. Good cocktails and decent selection of wines. The dinner portion is a 4 star but overall a (generous) 3-star because of the strangest restaurant seating I’ve ever experienced - based on that alone, I would not return.

Went for a cocktail whilst staying at the hotel. Waiter clearly didn’t have a clue. First two attempts to order a cocktail were met w with ‘oh it’s not on the menu’. The third was ‘what size’ do you want when the cocktail was just that, a cocktail, no sizes! Said he’d as someone to help. Gave up and went elsewhere.

We came for a brunch at 12:00. The service was poor - starts from Reception. When I arrived the reception was empty, nobody was there and the waitress advised the receptionist will come soon. After 7min of waiting, the receptionist said the table is not ready so I sat down in the lobby. Couple of mins after, we have been seated to the table - I was so surprised to see the empty restaurant - nobody was there! So why the table was not ready upon my arrival? I was on time. The receptionist tried to give us the worst table in the house and when we asked for something better she said they are fully booked. (Rule number 1 - you don’t give the worst table to the first guests, number 2 - the place was empty, number 3 - I know ResDiary, saw they bookings whilst I had to wait - not fully booked at all). After insisting, we received better table we wanted. A few mistakes from our waiter that was smiley and lovely but not attentive - we ordered still water, received sparkling, we also received dish we never ordered - this was removed once we pointed out. The food was ok, not outstanding but good enough. After one hour lady approached us and advised they will need a table back (restaurant still half empty). No, we could not sit and grab another coffee, they offered us lobby. No thanks, we will never return back. The stuff is not welcoming at all and they will need to start using a common sense and treat people with a respect. Please make them want to come back, Learn the booking strategies and don’t kick out people when the restaurant is half empty! It is bad for your business. I would understand if the place was fully booked but it wasn’t. Very disappointed.

Our afternoon tea experience was great we had seconds of sandwiches as well. The staff was on hand to ensure we had the best experience but most of all, when they found out it was my birthday they brought over a lovely pastry with a candle on it. Such a lovely touch! I have updated my previous review following a recent visit courtesy of the restaurant management. It was an altogether different experience with a new and more engaged service team. The food was never the issue which on this second occasion was faultless as was the service. This is what it should have been on our first visit but credit where credit is due, they have redeemed themselves with a first class enjoyable evening and attentive but not intrusive staff. A special thanks to Mario who appears to head this new and improved team and a thank you to the restaurant manager for ackowledging previous faults with service. We would definitely return and the 5th star may then appear. All in all a very enjoyable experience in a fantastic setting. 1 Star for the food I visited with a friend for an early dinner. They advertise a steak and wine evening but there is no 'menu' on the website as to what this includes. When we arrived it would appear even the staff were a bit confused. Despite being empty in the restaurant, we had to wait 20 minutes for a bottle of Prosecco. When this finally arrived, it appeared our 'server' was a trainee and had never opened a bottle before so had to be assisted by someone else. This did not bode well. The service was appallingly slow bearing in mind when we arrived we were the only people there. (there were a smattering of guests in the lounge area) . They did not ask if we wanted any water or starters as the confusion had already set in that we wanted a specific menu which they advertised. It was a bit like Fawlty Towers. Others have mentioned poor service and having spoken with a few people who have been all say the same. They really are missing a trick as the food was really delicious despite the steak being served with mysterious and unamed 'accompaniements' which were just a few vegetables so the chips added on in a miniscule dish racked up another £5.00 per person. We politely referred our situation to the lady who helped the trainee server and she took off the service charge ! This is discretionary so it would have been appreciated if either something was removed from the bill or an offer of another glass of wine made. It was poorly managed, if managed is the correct word and yet it could have been so much better, so easily. I had tried to address this directly to the restaurant via an email they sent but the email address was incorrect and no one bothered to respond when it was forwarded to another email address on the same email. They really are missing a trick here. The restaurant is very sumptuous but lacks any ambience or manybe that's how we felt after a very long dinner exacerbated by what can only be described as utterly poor service.

We had a really nice evening at 144 and they treated us brilliantly for our anniversary. All of our food was very well cooked and it was fairly good value too, though portions could definitely have been larger for starters and mains in my view. The chicken roulade was a case in point - a great dish but it was very small!

Lovely dinner with good service. The waiter listened carefully to the order which requested a small change and delivered things just perfectly. Only wish is that they turned off the canned music in the dining room. Maybe appropriate for a bar or pub but lot for the dining room where everyone was having chats with their dining companions and didn't need to talk over music.

Enjoyed dinner in the restaurant then moved to the bar for a nightcap. Lovely bar but even better bartender. Fortunate enough to be helped by Prerak - not just a nice guy, but knowledgeable (especially when it comes to whiskey!), with engaging conversation. A nightcap turned into 5! I came here with my friend last Friday for lunch. My friend was late but the staff accommodated for us and timed our meal so that it arrived not long after she arrived. I cannot express how friendly, informed and helpful the staff was. I visited before and will definitely be back. Had afternoon tea here. The atmosphere is really good. Antique, cozy and beautiful with all the lovely colours. The decoration of the cakes, sconea and sandwiches was very beautiful too. They were all very tasty. We had a good time there.

We had a lovely lunch at the restaurant for our wedding anniversary. The interior is great and the food and drink was amazing. Service was perfect and they kindly gave us dessert to celebrate, thanks!

Came in for afternoon tea, had the savoury option. 1 lonely scone, 2 finger sandwiches, 2 bite sized sandwiches, 2 small falafel, 1/2 mini sausage roll, 1/2 mini spring roll, 3 cocktail sausages. Sandwiches were dry as if they'd been sitting around for quite a while, rest of items were average tasting. Very underwhelming experience and severely overpriced at £40 per person. If you had the same amount of food that was impeccably freshly prepared and generously filled, it may be worth it but not what is served. Would not recommend.

Incredible service! Besides the service on the day, the organisation of the event over the email was great. We have had a post civil wedding dinner there, July 30, inside the restaurant. They have treated us amazingly and it was a busy time for them. I forgot the names as my head was somewhere else but there was a girl who offered to take pictures for us with the pretty arch at the restaurant, she was incredibly kind and attentive, the girl whom I remember is from Madrid (amazing personality) and the boys who served us and took pictures, please forgive me guys but I will be back to see you. I had been there before as I knew service and food were great but that night they went above and beyond for us. I can’t thank everyone enough, I liked there before now I love it! Had a superb evening here with my fiance and our wonderful waiter, Alin, who was a joy to talk to. The food was just sublime. Highly recommend the duck moose with melon and brioche for a starter. Both our bavette steaks were cooked excellently and soft to cut, the rosemary fries were delectable. They have an impressive wine list, but if you're a gin fan, you're going to be spoiled for sure. Not sure I've ever seen a gin menu quite that large! The beautiful emerald art deco bar is lovely to sit at as well. Will definitely come back!

We were bought voucher for afternoon tea by our son on their website, as a birthday treat for my husband. After booking we were emailed to ask for deposits to secure booking. Explained it was already paid for. Staff mystified by voucher and ignorant of website!! On the day, we arrived early and had drinks. We were made to wait half an hour, until printer working so we could pay for drinks first. Many suspicious glances our way by staff. Actual tea ok, but pretty average. No-one apologised for treating us like criminals, staff were condescending. An all- round horrible experience.

I spent the nights of 15 &16 th June at your hotel with my family, one of my sisters was visiting the UK from Canada.We all enjoyed a lovely stay , good food and delightful staff particularly in the terrace where Prerak was so helpful& kind as were dinning room staff. ,

Had a lovely afternoon tea on the bank holiday weekend for my husband's birthday. Our waiter (Alin?) was so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the tea (we got the 144 house blend breakfast tea) was great. The team were all so friendly with our baby, which helped him stay in a good mood so we could enjoy our tea! The restaurant is beautiful, too. It wasn't crowded, and we were comfortable bringing the push chair to the table with us, which was a bonus.

My wife and I, had lovely dinner here on Saturday. The meal was exquisite, steak was tender, melts in your mouth, absolute marvel. We had a great service from host to waiting staff Alin, who was pleasantly courteous and explained the menu and made recommendations. Overall experience was great, we will certainly dine in again.

A very mixed experience. Fantastic ambiance, delicious cocktails and the birthday boy was given a wonderful dessert with candle. However, the portion sizes are very small and the food was below average for the cost. (£25 for a minuscule piece of lamb, spicy chicken was very dry). There were a lot of very nice staff around but we always seemed to be waiting along time for everything, even though the restaurant was not full. If there were more generous portions and slightly tastier food then the cost could be justified and I would recommend this restaurant for a dinner. As is, I would recommend going for a coffee or cocktail and enjoy the ambiance and decor and then go somewhere else for your meal.

We had brunch on bank holiday and it was fantastic. Sebastiano, our waiter, was amazing and extremely accommodating. Food was wonderful especially the avocado with humus and chickpeas! We will def be back!

Poor allergy choice. Disappointed with how the staff dealt with allergy requirements. Back and forth with 3 separate servers, all blaming the previous for incorrect information. The food that came after one hour wasn’t all correct and even the drinks took 30mins to arrive. Maybe there were just busy with bank holidays but it was shame. For non allergy eaters, the food was good and they were dog friendly.

Food is amazing with a modern menu but respecting the classic flavours. Desserts are divine. Chef Lukasz came to our table to explain how and what every single dish has and was cooked to the detail, a very nice gesture. Also this restaurant has its own in brew Gins which we asked a recommendation and we had a very flavourish surprise. Decor is a mix between old and modern and its very classy and glamorous. Staff is super polite and nice. Definitely coming back if in the vicinity or for special occasions too.
