We came here a year ago, and loved it, however I think the quality has gone down a lot in the past year. Our most recent visit was disappointing as there was only really 1 (2 at a push) course(s) that we enjoyed from the 8 course tasting menu. With all the fantastic restaurants in London and the area, I don't think we'll be coming back...

We had a great experience, the food was great, especially the dessrt, the staff were very polite and looked after us. The only downfall that put me off was that there are a lot of fruit flies in the back of the restaurant on the walls and flying around. A lot of people did notice it, but i guess the reviews of the food outweighed the fly problem.

Worst Sunday roast ever. Booked the table having read positive, but outdated reviews on the Sunday roast. First warning sign was that they don’t have coffee or tea…e we had to go across the road to Gail’s to get a coffee and bring it back in while waiting for the food! Waited 45 mins for half the lunch to come out and then waited a further few minutes for the other half so we could get started. The food was barely warm and it came with one teeny tiny serving of gravy. Since the roast was all pretty bland it definitely needed the gravy and as two people it wasn’t enough to even cover the potatoes. We asked for some more which took about 10 mins to arrive. Food was cold. They tried to add the charge of £6.50 for the ‘extra’ gravy?! No check back on table or at end of meal. Strange meal experience. Won’t be returning & by looks of other recent reviews it doesn’t seem to be what it apparently once was. P.s other review is correct it is looking a bit run down too.

This is a really good place to get something unusual and delicious to eat. We had the five course tasting menu and got some fried chicken in addition. My complaint being that the chicken had the sinewy piece of the chicken left in which was disappointing, it was clearly a thigh piece of meat but that should have been removed and was careless. The rest of the courses were very good. The toilets at the premises are very cramped and you can’t really do your make up which is not good for a fine dining place. They need a good tidy up, it felt too dingy in the basement space. Would return

Two months ago, I booked a table for a Sunday Roast at 12:51. I had high expectations, but I was also a bit suspicious as I tend to be with those hyped places in general. Three days before our reservation, I received a text from the restaurant about their set sunday roast menu. It’s 75pp and one of its courses is their famous roast, which alone would cost around £35. We decided to give it a try. Although this might seem a bit pricey, it is 100% worth of £75. First, every course was delicious. Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures of all of them as I was eager to try them out. Second, it is a massive quantity of food. In fact, I wasn’t expecting it to be that much. Our reservation was 1:30 and we were so full that we skipped dinner. Be prepared for a long nap after you eat. Finally, but most importantly, this set menu was high quality. From nibbles to desserts, everything was on point. As I was with my partner, each of us chose a different option from the two we were offered so we could try everything. If you go with a partner or friend, I recommend you do the same. But if you don’t, pick what you wish. As I said, everything was great, so there’s no mistake.

The food was very good by British standards - there was also a vegetarian menu on offer - but we expected a little more from a restaurant recommended in the Michelin Guide. The food was rather average. My highlight was the truffle egg, unfortunately the level couldn't be maintained. The space is very tight, my husband was jostled several times by the staff and it was extremely loud.

Where else in London can you get a delicious, 5 course, tasting menu for only £45 per person? Nowhere but 12:51, that's where. The food was lovely - delicious and exciting - and more than enough for us. Service was excellent and the vibe was modern, laid back. My only complaint was that most tables (ours included) are in the windowless rear of the restaurant, and the lighting made it somehow unappealing.

The staff were lovely mostly. The food was fine mostly, however we thought it was not worth the money nor was it a fine dining experience. My 2 star review is due to finding a long black hair was in my duck croquette. It was so baked in to it that bits of croquette were still in tangled to it when I pulled it from my mouth. I’ve short hair and my friends are blond incase you were wondering. As it put us all off that course hardly any of it was eaten so I was disappointed that no replacement of reimbursement was offered after showing it to the staff. In that same course my vegetarian friend had their duck replaced with a bit of what appeared to be unimaginative cabbage, which we are sure we had eaten in the previous course. We did not feel our feedback on this was taken seriously

Food: Simple and a bit bland, with incredibly small portion sizes. When you look at the price and are tempted by the "affordable" cost of a 5-course menu, assume you will have two bites worth of food per dish. Service: Really good, very polite and friendly staff who were very accommodating to our allergies and tailored the dishes very well. Atmosphere: Way too packed. The chairs of tables next to each other actually touch, and I was seated behind someone whose chair would hit me everytime they shuffled in their seat. In order to let them get up and go to the toilet, I actually had to stand up during my meal, tuck in my chair so that they could get out. This was quite disruptive and made the experience less pleasant. Overall, I just think this place is overhyped. Food was so so and ambiance not great either. Wine especially expensive so I think there are better places to try nearby that this.

We had the 5 course tasting menu without wine pairing. You are given soda bread with whipped marmite butter (surprisingly ok despite us not liking marmite) to begin on top of the 5 courses. It's small plates, but we left stuffed. Dishes change depending on season and availability. So, the mackerel others mentioned was not in our menu. Their signature is fried chicken, but it's not included in either of the tasting menus. You can opt to have some included as a snack to start. Our waitress was honest enough to say that's how they make more money. We went for the jerk buttermilk chicken. Outstanding chicken worth the extra cost. However, did we need an extra dish? No, we were so full it was almost uncomfortable. If you come starving, you'll be fine. They're known for their Sunday roast too. It's a casual place. Quite narrow and cosy. The dining area is in the back and it's not very big. Toilets are down the stairs (there's 2). Service was good. They wished happy birthday and gave us a free glass of prosecco each.

My brother and I treated our parents to the 8 course tasting menu as a belated Christmas Present. The 4 of us were very much looking forward to this dinner being fans of The Great British Menu and fine dining experiences. However, the whole experience was extremely underwhelming. Although each dish looked aesthetically pleasing, there was no wow factor when eating it - it was all very average and no synergy between the courses. The last two courses in particular were disappointing which was essentially a doughnut in a bowl and a waffle with melted cheese on top?. I wouldn't rush back here and it was expensive for what it was worth as we also treated them to the wine pairing too! However, the service was great and our waitresses were knowledgeable; the restaurant was quite cramped too.

Although we accept it was a tasting menu we felt most of the food was too salty and the textures and flavours didn't work. Even the skin on the small piece of duck we got wasn't crispy & the doughnut at the end was stodgy! We were very disappointed especially as it was so expensive. Terrible. The 8 course taster menu is terrible. Bad tasting over salted pub grub style food, they really are fleecing people in here. Every dish was really unpleasant. We got the meal for £30pp as it was through groupon, but even that was massively overpriced for what it was. Luckily we didn’t go for the wine pairing. We had to pay an extra £12 for their ‘signature’ fried jerk chicken dish as it wasn’t included. £15 for a glass of wine.

I’m rubbish at writing reviews but honestly the food was so delicious. Everything had so many different flavours it was very well thought through. You can tell there’s a lot of passion at this place for what they do. We did the 8 course with drinks pairing. Some of the wines were such a unique flavour, I’d also had nothing like it before.. Loved the fried chicken and oysters as “snacks” as well. Reasonably priced, but I added pretty much every extra so it ended up being a typical London tasting menu price. Worth every penny.

4/1/24 - 2 of us ordered the 5 course vegetarian tasting menu. 1 of us is gluten free and gave the required 48 hours notice. The food was lovely, but just not enough of it and not enough protein to fill you up. I've had many tasting menus and always been nicely full before (female, size 12 so not a huge appetite) but I left not feeling full. My gluten free daughter, had a nice substitute piece of bread, but after that the gf solution was to simply omit the gluten item and not provide a substitute. So no substitute for the barley in the main course, no doughnut substitute, and actually still expecting us to share the acompanying mousse. Even the waitress realised that looked mean and went to get another mousse. Overall the value for money just wasn't there and the experience was disappointing. Afterwards she was still hungry and we went to Sainsburys for additional food, which isn't what you expect to need to do after spending £100 on your dinner for 2 + of course the 12.5% which is automatically added to your bill.

My partner and I had reserved a table for New Year's Eve, looking forward to a special evening. Regrettably, the experience was a letdown from the outset, beginning with our arrival. We received a rather cold welcome and were left to stand in a corridor, unclear about how long we would need to wait for our table. Throughout the evening, the service was hurried and chaotic. Our first course was served before our drinks arrived, and the second course came whilst I was still eating the first. The staff did not provide clean plates between courses, necessitating a request from us as the dishes were briskly brought out. This frenetic pace continued, with courses being delivered every 10 to 15 minutes. A glaring lack of coordination between the kitchen and waiting staff became increasingly evident. Our fifth course was nearly cleared away before we had finished, and the sixth course, a main, was served immediately afterwards. The duck, expected to be a highlight, was served cold and with poor presentation, accompanied by unbalanced flavours. The dessert service was equally underwhelming. A chocolate mousse was brought to our table while my partner was absent, and its ingredients were explained only to me, missing the chance for both of us to enjoy the explanation together. The final dessert course arrived whilst we were still on the first, adding to the sensation of being rushed. Our entire dining experience, costing £85 per person for an eight-course meal, was condensed into a mere 90 minutes. This hurried succession of dishes, approximately one every 11 minutes, left us feeling hastened and unwelcome. The additional option of a wine tasting, at £65 per person, would have been impractical to enjoy under these circumstances. The evening concluded disappointingly with the staff beginning to stack chairs and prepare for closure 20 minutes before the official closing time, whilst we and other guests were still dining. This discourtesy, combined with the lack of any New Year's wishes or expressions of thanks as we departed, was the final straw in an evening marred by substandard service and a disregard for hospitality. Regrettably, this experience has led us to decide against returning to the restaurant. The neglect of customer experience, especially on such a significant occasion as New Year's Eve, was deeply disheartening.

The whole experience left an awful taste in my mouth... If you're keen to enjoy yourself, enjoy your food or get something worth what you're paying, then I'd highly recommend going somewhere else. We decided to celebrate 6 months of parenting & have a blowout at 12:51 (we were also keen to use our Amex dining credit) so opted for the 8 course and wine pairing. The experience overall was underwhelming. The restaurant is crammed and lacks any warmth or personality. The food is pretentious to the point of being unenjoyable but then also rushed out at considerable speed to keep the conveyor belt going. I was so looking forward to the fried chicken, but it was absolutely overwhelmed by the truffle. The raw scallop covered in what appears to be cat sick, was actually one of the better balanced dishes. And to be fair the meat, ham & wines were actually enjoyable but certainly didnt provide anything close to worth for the price paid or leave a better taste in ones mouth from such a tired and drab experience. We were somewhat relieved we weren't paying "full price" for what was a completely underwhelming meal at a somewhat ok restaurant but... last laugh was on us as Amex refuses to payout because we've been charged from a restaurant in Norwich. I contacted 12:51 numerous times across 3 weeks to 1) just ask for a copy of my bill so I can prove we didn't eat in Norwich & 2)to ask why we'd been charged from a restaurant in Norwich when we clearly ate in London... but so far have only received some incomprehensible response from someone who couldn't care less about what I was asking, and which further confirms this restaurant cares about only one thing, taking your money and providing as little service or worth as possible.

Lunch tasting menu portions were slightly on the small side, honestly at the end of the meal I felt like I could have had more. There were a total of 5 courses but I felt the portion of the risotto course and the main could be larger. I could see certain unconventional flavor combinations, though some of it didn’t work for me. For e.g. the gherkin ketchup overpowered the beef tartare dish. And the buttermilk sauce did cut through the salty and fatty mackerel but on its own was slightly too tarte. Nice touch of Proseccos to start the meal.

The second course which I enjoyed the most was the mackerel which was fresh and tasty. The third course was the celeriac which was nothing special and not tasty. The fourth course was the duck, the whole plate combinations did not make sense at all. The dessert which was supposed to end on a high was an actual let down. My daughter and I were looking forward to this (we had booked two tasting menus and accompanying wine menus) . All started well with a nice cocktail and friendly service. Sadly, it went down hill quickly. The first course was poorly presented and over cooked and subsequent courses were rushed through. My daughter is a vegetarian chef and thought it very poor - the veggie menu was the same as mine apart from the main course which had a bit of beetroot added. I don't normally leave bad reviews as I fully appreciate it can be detrimental to business and I have no wish to stick the boot in, but for £250 you can easily find a better dinning experience and this place needs to up its game. A great disappointment.

We had the 8 course tasting menu - a few were exceptional and all were highly enjoyable. I don’t understand all the comments here about small portions…..it’s a tasting menu! It’s all about the intense flavours the kitchen delivers, not just filling your belly! Bread and marmite butter is a wonderful start and there some real gems in there I’d never try normally such as the coal roasted celeriac with egg yolk confit. My only comment to the kitchen would be to serve the apple centred sauce to the side of the scallop dish rather than on top as I feel it diminshed the latter’s subtle flavour a tad. Just a thought. Wasn’t impressed considering the money I paid for this meal. We were placed on a tiny table by the door so each time someone came in they had to negotiate getting round us so that did not knock the chair. The waitress who was very pleasant came out with a glass of fizz at the beginning to acknowledge my husband’s birthday but actually the glass of cava was part of the voucher I had paid for anyway so not complimentary as suggested! Some of the courses were nice, the marmite on toast was a great start, the corn on the cob with scotch bonnet jam was far to hot for me and then from there on you felt like you needed to eat the food sitting on the toilet due to the combinations such as mussels with cabbage and curry sauce! The slow cooked meat with faggot was the best dish in my opinion but unfortunately the meat was stone cold and so was my husband’s. The pudding was nice at the top, light and fluffy but the base tasted extremely cold almost frozen. The toilets downstairs need updating and were dark and tatty. I wouldn’t return again unfortunately.

Was given some bubbly upon arrival to celebrate, and the 5 courses were well presented and mostly delicious. I particularly liked the chip shop curry mussels and the chocolate mousse dessert. Some of the courses are too complicated with too many ingredients in my opinion, and I agree that the portions are generally small but i enjoyed them in this portion size- I find myself unable to finish big portions or long tasting menus anymore so this was perfect.

Very underwhelming small room with tables and chairs like a cafeteria. We struggled to get three of us to sit comfortably around it. Food was nice but most portions microscopic. Best was the beautiful bread with marmite butter. Least memorable, a hash brown with eel; the hash brown was tough and component parts didn’t come through. Service was polite, fairly pleasant but very rushed. It was clear they needed us out before a 9pm sitting so plates were cleared too swiftly. Given the money spent this should have felt like indulgent luxury but instead I thought it was a bit of a con. Shan’t return when there’s so many amazing and better value locations in London; indeed on Upper Street.

I had dinner there a few weeks ago for a friend’s birthday. We were greeted with complimentary glasses of sparkling wine, which was such a lovely gesture from the staff. The tasting menu was honestly mindblowing, and so well priced for the quality of the dishes served. They have a very interesting wine menu, which makes you go out of your comfort zone. The wine we picked was something I never tried before and really enjoyed. Again, the price tag was very good (around £30 the bottle). Everything was perfect from beginning to end.

Exceptional flavour combinations, great presentation, and really clever little touches to most dishes, had us wanting a repeat of almost every dish. Perfection (well almost) - even the final dish of the 8 course menu, (which I didn’t enjoy) was well crafted and would suit another persons palate well.

After reading such positive reviews for the Sunday Roast Dinner we were extremely disappointed. The one piece of Roast Meat was tough and had a large proportion of fat. The potatoes were so hard they tasted like they had been in the oven for the entire day. The gravy was watery (an extra portion of gravy was £5). An expensive and unenjoyable Sunday Roast.

Have to admit I was a little underwhelmed- no star factor here, which I was expecting from all the reviews. I also understand that it was a taster menu but some portions were very small. That being said, I can’t give any less than 4 stars as the food was delicious and paired beautifully with the drinks. The staff were also a delight.

Food was really good (the venison in particular) and the service was also faultless. The atmosphere was really nice, not too loud or crowded. Our only negatives were firstly that in exchange for the venison main, my vegetarian wife was given two small slices of carrot instead - really not sufficient for a main meal. Secondly, the wine pairing was not great. It consisted of only the cheapest wines on the normal menu (rather than any thought having gone into the pairing), and the combined price of those wines for 175ml glasses was £43 but the pairing costs £45 for glasses not more than 100ml each. So very poor value and the quality did not match up to the food. The first wine in particular was really quite sour and unpleasant - felt pretty ripped off. The red wine with the venison was ok and the sweet wine was good.

Visited yesterday with a couple of friends and we had a great experience overall. The restaurant vibe was cozy. The food was really tasty and well presented. The staff was nice and friendly. In particular the Italian waitress made us feel very comfortable (scusa purtroppo non ho il tuo nome).

Came for an enjoyable tasting menu. The signature fried chicken was obviously a standout, as was the gorgeous chocolate mousse dessert. I surprisingly wished that there had been more veg.

Visiting to experience the 8 course tasting menu, each course is quite small but really well presented, but more importantly packed with flavour. The paired wines with the courses were reasonably priced and matched the strong flavours within each dish. The restaurant is long and narrow, so can be a little cosy, but certainly a place worth visiting for the standard of food.

Had an absolutely wonderful evening for an anniversary at 12:51! Great selection of carefully crafted dishes and a wonderful FoH team. We had one vegetarian and one meat 8 course tasting menu. Definitely want to head back for a Sunday roast, which we heard from another table, is amazing.

I loved this restaurant. It was my first time experiencing Sunday roast dinner and I believe I experienced the best version of the dinner on my first try. Everything was delicious from the cocktails to the food. It was also extremely filling. I would love to come back again

AMAZING Roast. Hands down the best one I've ever had! The meat is cooked to perfection, the truffled cauliflower cheese, the potatoes and the brisket were all to die for. The caramelised onion was also an absolute delight. Do me a favour and book a reservation here, you will be in for a treat! This place is Michelin star worthy.⭐️

Nice food but overly pretentiously presented with tiny portions. Overall would say it’s not worth the price.

after reading reviews about the roast dinner i decided to give it a go. at £28pp its reasonable for what i thought you got firstly the place was incredibly small, and intimate, which i didn’t enjoy much they didn’t have many of their starters such as soda bread etc, which was so sad, and then for drinks, they didn’t have any soft drinks. no lemonade and no caramel cola, only ginger beer the waitress said they didn’t have the beef brisket as advertised on the menu and included in the price ? we were given two bits of beef instead which was nice. it was lovely. i had asked for no horseradish or onion ketchup, they gave me both. They served one yorksire pudding person which was burnt and looked like a frozen one The potatoes, which were shared between you, looked incred but tasted bland and were hard in the middle, gravy was delish, cauliflower cheese was very truffley. nice. £10 service charge, we spoke to one waitress once to order, and the bar/service table was next to us so i don’t believe we should’ve paid added service charge.

Wow! The food was amazing as expected and for most of the meal I had no idea what I was even eating! (We’re talking foam and emulsions) this place really stands out as it’s so casual and friendly not at all pretentious!! (Tuesday is byob if wanting to keep price down) ❤️🍾👏

Wine pairing price = $50 (40 pounds) Retail value =. $13 Markup = 380% The pairing (which is listed on the menu so you know what youre going to get!) was 5 beverages, starting with a taste of a house cocktail and moving on to 4 wines. Generally, the wines are younger (2020 and 2021) and retail you can find them for $15 and $17. None of them were remarkable in a good or bad way. It was nice to have the variety, but I'd probably go by the glass next time for a better value.

Great restaurant and a very welcome addition to the Islington restaurant crew. Very reasonably priced for great quality food and my only regret is that we went for five courses instead of eight. They gave us a free glass of bubbles as it was a special occasion and the service in general was awesome. I have had the roast as well, which is also banging!

Excellent if minimal food, not a great ambience. The restaurant is cramped, loud and a bit rough around the edges - certainly not the kind of surroundings you'd expect for a meal that's £120 per person with wine. We gave up trying to hear what...

Nice informal atmosphere and very friendly staff. The food was good, and by no means lacking in imagination, but could defo do with some recipe development. It's a nice place to go. However not somewhere I would visit again any time soon. I wouldn't say this place is a 'must' for someone that's really into the London Food Scene. The Goat/Mutton (Forgive me this was around May it was one or the other) dish in particular was poorly executed and lacked balanced flavour wise. It's a tricky meat to work with - (Strong Flavour & can be very salty) and Caribbean cuisine - Specifically Jamaican, knows how to counteract the harsh flavours and fatty textures well. However this course didn't leave a good taste in my mouth, and if I had never had curry goat growing up, I would currently be convinced that I didn't like goat/mutton at all based off of this. I feel proud of this place and what it's aiming to do, But I feel it needs a more thought & development. I will re-visit in a few years in the hopes it's fulfilled it's potential.
