1 Spice in Wiltshire

Our first visit, food and service very good, the only negative for our lower stars was the owner/manager did not in anyway control a VERY rude and noisy table who were swearing throughout the evening, and we told the management about this and left quickly. I have no doubt this table spoilt it for others too, and sadly, we doubt we would return because it's down to the owner to control their business which we don't think they are capable of doing this.

best indian restaurant in town, top quality food

We had a very disappointing experience in 1Spice last night. Table booked for 630pm. Drinks and order for popodums came quickly but by 815pm our mains had still not arrived. We chased it up several times and the staff just disappeared on us. Takeaway collections were now queuing out of the door. I could not see one table in the restaurant with food and, along with us, the tables around us were getting impatient and angry. It was very clear they were prioritising takeaways as they were the only people getting food. We cut out losses and paid for our drinks and left. We were a table of 3 couples who are unlikely to eat here again, there are plenty of other Indian options in town. What was more shocking is that when we complianed they just ignored us and were only interested in being paid. No apology explanation or discount for bad service etc. It ruined the night as we had plans to visit a few pubs after but ran out of time. This is sad to see as I have eaten at 1Spice many times and had numerous takeaways from here. The service and food has always been good up until now. It was embarrassing as we were with people from out of town. I think we will go elsewhere in the future.

I don't know what happened last night as a group of 8 of us visiting Devizes booked here on the strength of the good reviews, the provenance of which I am no longer sure. After arriving at 6.15pm our orders were taken and our choice of starters arrived promptly. I couldn't fault the starters. However, by 8.10pm it was very apparent that takeaway orders were being prioritised over customers sat in the restaurant and there was still no sign of our food. The atmosphere in the packed restaurant was turning ugly as none of the seated customers had their main courses. Many had been there a similar length of time to our group. No apologies or explanation was ever forthcoming from any member of staff. At this point we paid for what we had and left. Several other disgruntled customers were doing the same. I would hope for the people of Devizes that this was a one off but we would not return

Somewhat embarrassed that I chose to book this restaurant for a group of eight friends visiting Devizes for the weekend, however, the majority of the reviews were superb so, why would I not? Our starters were delivered quickly and represented excellent value for money as the portion sizes were more than generous. We then waited almost 2 hours for our main courses but they were not forthcoming. It was apparent that they were prioritising takeaway orders over eat in customers. No explanation had been forthcoming, nor an apology or any offer of compensatory drinks, etc so, having observed another table of diners walk out, we paid for the drinks we’d had and also left in disgust. As we were leaving, a table next to us who had arrived well after us, were being served their main courses however their order was completely wrong - we wondered whether they were being served our main courses! Last night, this place was an absolute shambles and if I were to return to Devizes in the future, I would avoid, avoid, avoid!

Our favourite restaurant in Devizes. We regularly get take away and are always blown away by how good it is. The staff are always friendly and give brilliant service. I am always excited to order and pick up our food. Thank you guys so much and we can’t wait till next time!

One of the best take outs ever.

Ordered the Vegetable chilli paneer, pilau rice and plain naan, no chillies in the curry just a sweet tasting soup like meal, pilau rice was a very small portion, naan was ok. Partner ordered Vegtable balti and asked if chickpeas could be added, it came with no chickpeas and tasted very sweet also. Explained when paying that my curry was very sweet with no chillies(description says fresh green chillies)the manager said it is cooked with sweet chilli sauce! That's not what it says on the menu!Palmed off with a bottle of beer which was declined.

Called in after a day out, only two other couples dining, food was nice and tasty, cost more than we wanted to pay but not many options for dining late in Devizes.

Another great meal at one spice, been going for 15 years and the food and service is always good, best Indian in Devizes…

Awful service. Seemed the waiter was passive aggressive from start to finish. Sat in seats where my wife had no elbow space and really squashed in. Pointed out early on that my seat was unsteady and the waiter just said “it is fine”, dismissed the problem although it clearly was unsteady and rocked back and forth as you sat on it, before reluctantly offering me a swap. Served my daughter’s J2O uncapped but unshaken so was impossible to shake and had to end up stirring with a knife to stop all her sediment from sitting at the bottom. Almost poked in the eye when waiter cleared our plates. Asked to pay the bill within seconds of it being put on the table before I had the chance to see it. My advice, don’t bother.

First take away from here, will not be the last!! Excellent food, piping hot and plenty of it per portion. Great value for money

Went here the other night with some friends. Lovely food, service was great, will return in the future.

Normally this would be our go to curry house, however, the service from front of house was shocking even though we booked a table on Tuesday we were shoved out of the way by where you collect a takeaway. The lady was really rude and unwelcoming so we left straightaway. In hindsight this was a great decision since the curry leaf found us a table and the food was outstanding. Won’t be back at one spice for a while and at least whilst the still employ that dragon…,

Arrived at 8.15pm as booked. It took an hour for someone to take our order with the meal arriving after 10pm. Very poor overall experience. Will not return in a hurry!

The food was good, cooked well and had a little flavour to it. My issue was with the service that was provided. Not happy with the female that worked inside the restaurant. She was unnecessary awkward and unhelpful.

Food was nothing special, taste blended , all too garlicky, papodom as starters ,5 main and 3 naans, one bottle of withe wine sauvignon blanche and normal water…..£98 ….. not expensive but i wold prefer pay more and have tastier food

My Family and I are visiting Devizes from the States and wanted Indian food, and this place did NOT disappoint. Highly recommend this restaurant. The food was excellent and staff friendly.

Another lovely meal enjoyed at One Spice through Arafin and his team. Fantastic atmosphere (every table full), tasty food, great size portions and a friendly waiting team. What more could you want in a clearly thriving local business?

NOT 100% HALAL. Called the restaurant to check HALAL status. Was told that everything is halal EXCEPT the Seekh Kebab and Mince. So not 100% Halal. Very disappointed

We arrived late on a Sunday evening after returning from abroad. We had booked a table in advance and it was still waiting for us. The meal was impeccable! Service was superb. Well done.

Just had the best portion of lamb jalfrezi in town.

Delicious meal. All fresh tasting with lovely flavours. Particularly enjoyed the Duck Shashlik, and draught Cobra nice. Service excellent.

Wonderful food and great staff. Eaten there for many years as it caters well for coeliacs as only the poppadoms and naan bread contain gluten.

I was visiting Devizes, we saw the ratings of this restaurant and thought it would be good, but sadly, we were quite disappointed. The chicken tikka masala and the butter chicken had a lot of sugar in them. They were both overly sweet and had an odd taste. The chicken tikka masala also had an unnecessary amount of food coloring. The raita had no cucumber in it whatsoever, even though the menu stated that it had cucumber. There seemed to be no spice or seasoning in the spinach and mushroom bhaji. The waiters seemed a bit grumpy, though service was relatively okay. overall, the food quality was subpar and not worth the 70£ we paid. The ambience was okay, and there were no issues with it. The food was the main issue.

Great food, just check your takeout order is all there before leaving!

Friendly service and very good menu’s

Great meal, we stopped off in Devizes and we're looking for somewhere to eat on a Sunday night. The menu looked good and it did not disappoint. Great ingredients and great flavours, and some unusual dishes I've not seen anywhere else. We had two of these and left very happy.

Average dhansak and shashlik, dry, tasteless naan. Staff vacuuming while diners still eating.

I am not native to Devizes as I am only working here. I asked for a recommendation for a meal and was recommended 1 Spice. The staff were incredibly friendly and service was excellent. The food was amazing and was the best Indian food I have ever had. To top it all off the price was extremely reasonable. I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough.

We bought a takeaway for 2 of us. The service was fine but the food was a real disappointment. Bland and lacking in taste almost as if there were no herbs/spices at all. This was probably the worst takeaway I have ever had. Having paid over £30 for a very poor meal we will not be going back.

First time here meeting up with some old pals from a long time ago. We all enjoyed our meals, and the staff were excellent. A great evening. Perhaps a larger choice of soft drinks would have improved the experience.

Lush birthday meal, great service as always

This was our first try of 1 Spice and turned out to be a great choice. I must the staff are very attentive and polite. The food was just what we needed. The flavours were just right. My favourite were the onion bhajis, the best I’ve had for many years. All round excellent. Will be back

The food was uninspired and the service was appalling. After taking a £500 deposit for exclusive use of the venue, they still proceeded to have other bookings there. The staff were rude, slow and unhelpful. After being rather unhelpful, the manager decided to laugh in the face of my friend who was there to the celebrate the life of her recently deceased mum with us (which he knew). Also when we asked for water for our table of 4 we were only brought 2 glasses and w were told they had run out of glasses.

Avoid, if you have the choice of not eating or going there, I'd not eat. Food was bland, service was appalling, litteraly saw staff handling rice by hand when they though we couldnt see. Overpriced, uninspired and miserable.

Wedding anniversary meal last night and had the most delicious Chefs Special. I usually go for a fry tandoori as I’m not a fan of a lot of sauce so this sounded a good option! The chicken, lamb and king prawns all took on a different flavour in this dish. Highly recommend! And the staff are very attentive but not intrusively. Arafin was lovely to talk to and always smiling.

Lovely modern Indian restaurant. We had dinner on Wednesday and Thursday, both times the food was delicious and the staff were friendly and efficient. It was busy despite being a cold and rainy midweek and I'm not surprised. It's just a shame I live so far away

I came from Ukraine with three children, my wife and sister, saving them from the war. And I decided to celebrate my birthday in your Indian restaurant. I wanted my birthday away from my homeland to be pleasant and happy. But when I left the restaurant, I had only negative emotions. We ordered £150 worth of food and wine. The food was delicious. But soon a waiter came up to us and asked us to quickly pay off and leave the restaurant without even letting us finish our wine. He explained this by the fact that we have already been sitting for 2 hours and other customers have already come to our table. It was an order from the owner of the restaurant. I traveled all over the world, but for the first time in my life I was kicked out of a restaurant, and humiliated in front of my children and on my birthday. For such a great country as England, such behavior of waiters and such attitude towards customers is unacceptable. It's a shame! Think a few times before coming to this restaurant - you may also be kicked out from the table!

I had booked a table for 10, changed to 14, 4 hours before we had booked, 17 turned up. This was handled with professionalism and good humour. The food was good and the staff excellent.

Away from home on business, so solo dining. Chicken Madras was good but nowhere near hot enough. Needs more heat to be classed as a madras. The garlic naan was incredible, best I've tasted and I've had a few Attentive staff, fair price for 'down south' I suppose but considering the name of the restaurant is Spice, they need to be more generous with it!

Dropped in about 6pm for a meal. Restaurant seemed quite empty but we were asked by the friendly customer greeter if we had booked we said no. Greeter then asked quite a brash man (possibly front of house manager) if they could accomodate us. We were told they could seat us but would we be able to be finished by 7.45 - we agreed as that was plenty of time to eat and be gone. We were led to a table at the back of the restaurant probably because we were quite windswept and wild looking (hahahaah). We were immediately waited upon and our order taken. We ordered a chicken tikka massala and a lamb jalfrezi with two different rice dishes and a nan bread between us. The Chicken Tikka was the best I have tasted in many years the chicken being well cooked but succulent. The Jalfrezi was also well cooked. Wish we had an Indian Restuarant like this near to my home in Scotland Next trip to Devizes I will make sure I revisit this restaurant.
