The food was very good, the prices were reasonable and the service was efficient. The problem was the noise. This place is really popular so they've got in as many tables as they can to serve the maximum number of people. The size of the place means you have a lot of people in a small area competing against each other to be heard making conversation very difficult. Although the food was good, it's not my kind of relaxing dining with friends. We went at a peak time on a popular day so if I was to go again I would try to find a time and day when they are less busy.

This is such a gem in town. Yesterday I had the beef massaman curry - delicious and rich with a generous amount of melt-in-the-mouth beef - and the spring rolls, which were the tastiest spring rolls I’ve ever had. And because they also do English breakfasts etc, I could have it with a cuppa! This is also great if you have a group with people wanting different things for food - there’s a good varied choice of Thai dishes (curries, noodles etc) and classic breakfast choices. A great spot, lovely folks running it, and it’s super cute dining under the bamboo awning in the market.

I should preface this by stating that I called in at about 1545 when the establishment might have been on the verge of shutting for the day. However, if they accept a customer and charge the same then the quality should be as standard. I ordered chicken penang, as I have done several times in the past (though not for at least 2 years) and was expecting a rich curry of chicken, maybe potatoes, chopped chilis, Thai basil leaves. What I got was what appeared to be chicken that had been boiled or steamed separately, with a ladle full of watery sauce and no vegetables or garnish. A bowl of lukewarm sticky rice upended onto the cold plate completed the disappointing picture. I shovelled most of it down before it got completely cold, with the staff wiping down tables around me. It was only £6 and it tasted OK, but I would have preferred it if they either said they couldn't accommodate me at the outset or made more of an effort with the dish. I do hope this was a one-off due to the timing....otherwise this once quirky and fine establishment has gone seriously downhill.
