We come almost every weekend, the food is delicious and reasonably priced too. Tastes just like the food you have when in Thailand.

Wonderful food from lovely people - ordered a takeaway order from here a little while ago and it was delicious. Staff were very kind and talkative while I was waiting for my order. Smiles all around from us and them. Looking forward to eating here again!

What a hidden gem Ton Thai is. I've been competing in the International Tennis Tournament at Rhiwbina tennis club and have been a few times to Ton Thai.I love Thai food and the Tofu green curry is the best I have ever had. Also the Tierra Del Rey Sauvignon Blanc white wine from Chile is really fruity and tasty. I bought a small bottle.Well done to the amazing ,friendly, conscientious staff at Ton Thai 👏 👏

A genuinely superb meal - one of the best I’ve ever had. Prawn jungle curry with noodles. Authentic Thai food cooked and served by lovely people.

Una botella de vino tenía un precio razonable en comparación con la mayoría de los lugares en estos días que se disfrutaba sentado al aire libre al sol. Best thai food and experience we have had in UK. Lots of vegetarian options and very polite. The empty plates are a true testimony of superb good food.

Really impressed with this place. Everything is made with the freshest ingredients and the food is very high quality. Ordered two meals from the lunch menu, drinks, and sides. Everything tasted amazing and we payed less than £30 for everything. Will definitely come here again and recommend to others.

Really amazing local restaurant, we dropped in on the way to castle coch and weren't didsapointed, amazing Thai food with the characteristic freshness you expect at an absoloute bargain at £10 for a meal during lunch . Cannot reccomend highly enough especially if you want to grab a bite to eat withought going all the way to Cardiff

They said it would be 30 mins for collection and it was bang on. The food was very tasty. I will be going back there again. Very well priced as well. Staff were friendly.

Thai restaurant in Tongwynlais hence the name I think. We ordered takeaway but there is seating for dine in. Love Thai food and this is one of the best we've had. Pad Thai, fish cakes, panang curry, garlic aubergine all were delicious. Really authentic tasting. Friendly staff. A little out of city closer to North Cardiff but well worth a visit. Our new favourite for Thai food. We'll try dining in next time.

Esta noche he tenido una comida para llevar de este brillante café / restaurante tailandés. Una encantadora bienvenida de Shane el chef tailandés original que llegó a Cardiff en los años 80. Es un chef fantástico que cocina comida tailandesa real (no influenciada por los chinos) Su habilidad con los sabores es insuperable. Conduje desde la calle Fagans solo 15 minutos como máximo y volvería a conducir una hora para esa comida. El curry verde tailandés, el pad tailandés, el pad krapow, el pollo satay de arroz con jazmín eran muy muy buenos. 4 años en Tongwynlais. Que dure mucho. Si no lo has estado, debes irte. No puedo esperar para volver y comer la próxima vez

A pleasant surprise, the best Thai street food I've had outside Thailand.

Great to have a Thai restaurant here for lunch after a visit to the castle. The service was good, and they were mindful of my vegan requirements. They made sure the Pad Thai was without eggs and fish sauce; and suggested lemon tea as my drink, rather than Thai tea, which has milk. Food was tasty, although I felt very thirsty afterwards.

Just looking for a light lunch and tried a box meal, excellent quality and made fresh to order. Friendly staff. Clean and bright.

After ordering and being told it’ll take 20 to 25 minutes for my food, i had waited almost an hour before being told that the food would not be too much longer, it was over an hour until I received my food. The curries were incredibly watery, while the coconut rice and egg fried rice were okay overall a very disappointing experience

We have been travelling too Thailand for over thirty years, Ton Thai is the closest you will get to Thai food in Cardiff. We have been eating there ever since Ploy opened ,and May she continues to stay there in the Ton

Exceeded all of our expectations, extremely delicious and good portions - we ordered the duck, vegetables and a stir fry. This place deserves five stars.

Really recommend this place, the service is friendly and great. I had the thai red curry and it was excellent, so authentic. Really enjoyed it, would love to come back again next time i’m driving past.

Amazing authentic Thai food (and I've eaten in Thailand) fresh, flavoursome, quality food in a cafe style venue. They also do takeaway. We found it by mistake before visiting a local cinema and what a great find. Will definitely recommend and visit again.

I went here with my friend not long after I arrived in Cardiff. We ordered chicken satay and prawn pad Thai spicy. The chilli peanut and lemon mixed to the pad thai made it taste so authentic like I was in Thailand eating the street food. Service was excellent. We were hungry so the food tasted much better. I will definitely return again.

July 2023: Popular place some minutes drive north of Cardiff's center. Busy place with a limited number of tables. Better reserve in advance. Many people order take away so the people in kitchen were very busy so we had to be patient. The main dish portions are very big so in my case I barely could eat it all. The food ingredients are fresh with a lot of vegetables. The overall taste of the food was a bit different than what I am used to. I guess Thailand has several different cooking styles. The food is well adapted to Europe for spiceness. December: Perfectly made red and green curry for lunch. Rice and green tea. Extra 🌶️ chili. Healthy food. Taste of Thailand and Asia. Stomach very happy 😁. 6 stars meal.

This is the first time I’ve tried here but heard amazing stuff from several people. Well wow that was so beautiful all of our food was correct and boiling.. Thank you so much we will definitely be back. I went to collect and the staff were lovely and it was so cute inside. Thanks again

Lovely food, Pad Thai was not with rice noodles but egg noodles but tasted nice all the same. Arrived at 9:30 hoping to eat in but as closing at 10pm we took it home with us. Staff nice and pleasant and would defiantly go back

Amazing little place with amazing food just right for the Friday lunchtime. Red Thai chicken curry I had few weeks was amazing and a little bit spicy and the Green Thai chicken curry I had today was spicier and absolutely divine (not just my opinion😜). Both dishes were from the lunchtime take away menu and only £7.95. Absolutely loved it, would recommend and will be coming back!

Just had an epic takeaway green chicken curry, beef pad Thai with extra chilli and chicken satay skewers and it was easily the best I’ve ever had and I’ve tried a few Thai takeaways in the surrounding area and this is 1 👌 I will definitely be returning soon

Lovely food but beware all the things they list as vegetarian are made with fish sauce so not vegetarian. You have to explian you don't eat fish and then they will adapt the menu so as not to use it.

Really lovely food and a very friendly welcome. I'm not very adventurous with food, especially spicy food. I had the tofu Massaman curry, my partner had the tofu Thai red curry - they were both delicious. Excellent value for money. I will definitely come back.

We happen to find this gem on our way home to Cardiff and what a delightful treat. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and were spoilt for choice as everything sounded delicious! Everything was absolutely amazing, full of flavour and tasty! The dried shrimp noodles was my favourite! Highly recommend!

Absolutely blew my mind. I am from Hong Kong, and used to always travel to Thailand. Trust me on this, this is TRUE authentic thai cuisine. Living in the Uk for 4 years now, this is truly one of the brightest gem. Even in Asia, to have such high quality thai food is not easy. I would really highly recommend giving it a try, even if this is out of your way. 10000000/10! ❤️ Prawn on toast is my favourite. It is one of my favourite dishes, and the ones made here is the best I have ever had.

Fantastic lunch at Ton Thai at the weekend. The food was delicious and the lunch deals are such good value, there is a wide selection and nice portion sizes too, really great place, we can’t wait to go back and try the dinner menu. A big thank you to the owners, who were so welcoming and helped us with the menu choices, really nice people.

Food was delicious and they were super friendly. Penang curry and tofu was the hit of the day. Coconut juice drink was yum and made me feel like I was back in Thailand (note it’s a can with pulp in it.)

Didn’t know this place existed, it’s only 15 mins from us, went for dinner last night, staff were lovely and the food was really good, I had spring rolls as a starter and beef masaman and rice as main with a side of pak choi, it was all really tasty. Having been to Thailand many times and loving thai food it is great to find this place that has the most authentic thai taste we have found outside Thailand. Also a lovely cold Singha beer, best to book as very busy.

Superb Find, we have tried other Thai restaurants but obviously nothing compares to eating Thai food in Thailand 🇹🇭 which is one of our favourite destinations in the world to holiday, however Ton Thai cafe is superb, lovely staff and very authentic tasting Thai food outside of Thailand 🇹🇭. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, not many tables so book in advance unless your just having take away which seems to take approx 15 mins wait. We were shown to our table and menus, we had already looked on there website so we knew what we wanted lol, so we had Chicken Satay and spring rolls for our starters, very nice starter to be fair, then our main dishes, mine was the Thai red curry with chicken and my wife had the beef Massaman also Pak Choi side Superb tastes and filling as the portions are very generous. The kitchen is open to the restaurant so you get all the lovely smells of spices cooking and flames 🔥 from the pans flashing up occasionally. Very comfortable and good atmosphere, highly recommend to any one who loves Asian food or just wants to try for the first time. Once we had finished our Singha beers we got the bill and went on our way very satisfied. Yummy 🤤 Ton Thai we will return hopefully very soon x

A great place to get authentic and homely Thai foods. I had Prawns Pad Kra Pow and wasn't disappointed. Generous numbers of prawns and fresh vegetables. Hubby had Prawns Curry and we shared Coconut rice. The best part for us was the fish cakes starter. They were so tasty and addictive. It's a small local cafe managed by a couple of people only so be patient. The tables were limited, so I will recommend booking in advance. The only thing that I was a bit uncomfortable was that the prawns weren't deveined.

Really Authentic food. I had Green Thai with Beef. It was really nice. The Beef was cooked just right and the Green Thai was amazing. Just right amount of spice, lovely vegetables and this is often poorly done at bigger establishments. My wife had the Pad Thai. She said it was the best Pad Thai she had tasted, the prawns were big and tasty, very authentic, she loved the taste. Big plates and good portion. She also had fishcake. The prices are good 8.95 a plate and 1 pound for drinks. So its very good value. Close to the castle. If visiting Castle Coch, pop into the restaurant for lunch.

Chef was rude on arrival. I live in Thailand mostly, so when come home thought I try this restaurant. Food was below average. Chicken satay was burnt, sauce was bland. Chicken cashew nuts is usually served as fried chicken but here just normal chicken. Will not return.
