Expensive Went for breakfast, room was on the chilly side, wanted to keep coat on but didn’t!Whilst the food was very good I felt that the rustic decor made the place feel a bit make shift for the prices they are charging. At £19 for breakfast with only 1 drink, I feel this is a bit top heavy considering the surroundings. They automatically add a 10% service charge which I was unaware of until after I had paid and asked for a receipt, do not agree with this for just bringing out a breakfast! I also do not like to see cakes on open display when people walk by and breathe over them. The cakes are on display all day, I would not dream of leaving a cake on the side not covered at home all day, I feel they should at least be behind a glass cabinet.

A well frequented pub at the bottom of Brimscombe Hill. Modest sized car park for visitors, but a friendly welcome by the hosts. There is a convivial atmosphere inside whether you are visiting for just a drink or for food. The food menu is not very extensive, however the food is of exceptional quality. Friendly staff & worth a repeat visit if passing.

This picture is well out of date. It does not show the Restaurant as it is now. We have been going to The Bear since 1990. The present company took it over in 1996 I believe. They have made many changes. We have spent weekends, short breaks, wedding anniversaries and 4 Christmases at The Bear over the years. This was our first time back since pre-Covid. We were disappointed - the ambience is no longer there. The Restaurant, in particular, is soulless. Gone are the carpets on the floor - replaced by parquet flooring. Gone is the charming furniture which added to the beauty of the room. It looks more like a cafe than the upmarket room we once knew. We elected to eat in The Common Room - which is an off-shoot of the bar as the thought of sitting in the restaurant with very few diners did not appeal at all. This room was previously a lovely small snug where residents could sit, relax, read the papers or a book. The food was excellent. The waiting staff at dinner excellent and very professional. All in all, so disappointing. Sadly this will be our last visit to The Bear.
