Ardtara Country House Hotel Restaurant

Upperlands, Magherafelt
11/03/2019: We recently visited Ardtara restaurant for a six course dinner with matching wines for each course. A glass of prosecco with a hint of limoncello started the evening off. Followed at nicely spaced intervals by six delicious courses. The staff were all very helpful and pleasant. I would definitely recommend this evening for a lovely treat and we hope to return again in the very near future.
03/01/2019: We had been meaning to try Ardtara House on many occasions & wish we hadn't waited so long. We arrived and we were greeted by Joao, who kindly took us to the bar area, we ordered our drinks and took in the beautiful traditional surroundings of the house.

Rafters & Friels Bar

Swatragh, Magherafelt
11/12/2018: Called for a bite to eat and a pint .food delicious and Guinness excellent .well worth a visit to anyone passing through or going out with the family .
14/11/2018: Four of us called in for something to eat. Place was very busy with at least two big family celebrations happening. We were seated quickly, provided with menus and drinks, and when we ordered, were served soon afterwards. Menu was excellent and varied, and all our choices were really good. Bar service and food service were first class which contributed to a very pleasant dining experience. It had been ages since we had last dined here, I hope it's not as long until the next time.

District 45

Glebe, Magherafelt
15/01/2019: Friendly staff food is amazing. Good choice of menu and kids menu. My favourite place in magherafelt. Would recommend this place.
15/01/2019: Good deal for 3 for 20. Tasty and good atmosphere. Though would book in advance and can't stay too long

Marys Bar

Glebe, Magherafelt
23/02/2019: I had a job to do close by. So drove in to Magherafelt for some lunch. In all my years travelling I had actually never stopped in Magherafelt. I walked up the main street and seen a few places, but Marys Bar took my eye, so I headed in with little expectation except probably being served with typical pub food. I was greeted by a lovely friendly young lady who took me to a nice table and brought me a drink straight away. I was given a menu with some great chooses, but I opted for the special of Sea Bass on a bed of Champ with Chorizo sauce. I have to say, It was excellent! Compliments to the chef. Let me also mention that apart from the food and excellent floor staff, this is a lovely bar with a great atmosphere. I obviously not the only one to notice how nice this place is as most tables had been taken.
04/02/2019: When its cold outside, go to Mary's bar who has a fire place, nice and cozy corners to have a lunch or a coffee. Furniture and interior is very warm and modern.

The Elk Bistro & Wine Bar

Ballymaguigan, Magherafelt, 20-30£
11/02/2019: We called in The Elk for Sunday lunch. On arrival we were greeted warmly. The Sunday lunch menu offered traditional roasts as well as a couple of alternatives and hal a dozen starters. The roast lamb with rosemary jus, mashed potato and veg was gorgeous - a generous homely helping full of flavour and beautifully cooked and served.
12/01/2019: Met a friend here for lunch and was made very welcome. Well decorated and was lovely and warm. Good selection on menu to choose from. I choose the soup and sandwich combo. Soup was lovely and hot, the sandwich was really well filled and lovely side salad to garnish. Really well presented. Service was excellent too and weren't rushed out. Will definitely be back.

05/03/2019: Lovely menus and a great choice every day The staff are so helpful with different requirements for people with food allergies
03/02/2019: I ate here when staying at the hotel. On the first night I had a seven course pairing and tasting menu which was delicious, although quite expensive. The next night I had a two course meal from the menu which was also delicious. This is a place to go to for a special occasion.

Ditty's Bakery

Castledawson, Magherafelt
16/10/2018: This bakery / cafe really hit the spot , when we called in for a wee pick me up . Lovely big scones , and good coffee , as coffee should taste . Was wishing we were in at lunch time as the sandwiches looked really tasty . Staff really pleasant and friendly . Also spotless toilet facilities . Well done staff
13/10/2018: Ditty’s Bakery was recommended to us by Katherine at the Bridewell Visitors Center. We chose an appealing variety of pastries which we felt provided a taste of baked goods unique to Ditty’s as well as common fare. The items were appealing and tasted fine.

Town Parks East, Magherafelt
15/02/2019: the soup was like snot driping of the spoon so much salt in it I had to take a drink of water with every spoonful the crusty roll was not crusty just heat in a microwave . was not given a steak knife with my steak . I got spounge cake and custard in the very small jug of custard was about two table spoonful of custard witch was far far two sweet might as well have eatin I spoonful of sugar both my husband and myself felt onwell that night the staff had dirty overalls on and torn. we will never ever be back there again.
05/02/2019: Went for the Sunday Carvery, it was delicious and well worth the money, only £14.95 for 3 courses. Big portions all round. Was also here in November for my birthday dinner which was really lovely. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Would recommend a visit.

The Auction Room

Maghera, Magherafelt, <20£
13/01/2019: Went here for Sunday morning brunch with my wife and son.
08/12/2018: Came to the Auction Room before going to the local cinema with my family and ordered a few tray bakes, scones and 2 coffees. As someone who does not drink tea or coffee i often simply drink hot water and the world over I've never had to pay for such a drink and yet i come to Maghera and having spent nearly £15 for what we had to be charged £1 for what is termed a "flask of water" is frankly astounding. Had i walked in off the street alone and provided no other custom i could have rationalised the charge but in the circumstances this was laughable.

Moesgrill magherafelt

Castledawson, Magherafelt
17/02/2019: Driving by and saw how popular the restaurant was so we called in and had a great meal. Had the Sunday roast gamnmon which was Hugh and delicious. Well worth a visit. The only downside was the slightly over cooked vegetables.
25/01/2019: Service was good. Waitresses were friendly and efficient. Pleasant environment but the food was mediocre. Generous portion size but quality not great. Chicken very bland; peppered sauce lacked flavour. Other member of the party suffered from indigestion all evening. Modestly priced but this needs to be matched with quality food. Not likely to return here!

Oakleaf Restaurant

Lower Glenshane, Magherafelt
09/03/2019: Stop here as a halfway point en route to Londonderry and enjoy excellent food and service. You will not be disappointed.
01/01/2019: Had a family meal and the service was good. The duck dish was yummy. Nice clean place would definitely recommend

Moes Grill

Ballymaguigan, Magherafelt
17/02/2019: We go to Moes all the time as it's great value for their specials for either lunch, dinner or Sunday lunch. The service is always quick, the food is good with big portions, and the drinks are always decent including the cocktails.
28/01/2019: Service and food for a party of eighteen was excellent. Would highly recommend Moes for just a meal or a celebration.

The Old Thatch Inn

Castledawson, Magherafelt
04/02/2019: We haven't been there for a while, but brought our guests to it but was a bit disappointed that really nothing has changed and food was average. Sorry to write this, but once you were worth to drive some extra miles.
04/02/2019: Went yesterday for Sunday lunch - ordered cod and chips as was recommended- very indifferent - fish seemed frozen and then dipped in oil - chips cold, obviously sitting around waiting to be taken to table. My friend had the beef dinner and it looked cold no steam - and very unappetising - not impressed.

Ballymaguigan, Magherafelt
27/08/2018: Something missing every f#$king time, a bunch of f#$king apes would be more efficient and thorough in getting an order together correctly. Im convinced they get their staff from the circus that comes to the field next to the KFC once a year. Make sure and check the order before you leave the shop. Morons.
27/06/2018: I've tried this KFC a few times, every time assuming it has to get better... but no! The times I have been there they never had what I wanted on the menu, once I then got the totally wrong order and another time I got the wrong order, I asked why and they said they didnt have what I ordered so gave me a replacement without asking me! Never again...
