The best restaurants serving French food in Surrey Heath South East

On a return visit for me, having enjoyed several lunches here with various guests over the last couple of years, on this occasion my guests and I experienced below-par food and unexpectedly poor service. After a long time our apéritifs had not arrived, then the first amuse bouche arrived, and I had to ask where the aperitifs were in order to trigger their arrival. Of course there was then not enough time to enjoy them before first course and another wine arrived. The first course ‘ok’, the second good in principle but the fish was overcooked, then an excellent venison dish, and finally a poor dessert. Wine pairing 3/4 were good, one was ‘ok’. Throughout the meal we were inconvenienced as water was not topped up, which is a no-no for a restaurant of this supposed calibre. At the end of the meal one guest asked for tea with the tea itself on the side, not in the water, as she likes it very weak, and was given a cup of water and a strainer full of tea; how was she supposed to make the tea? Does the Latymer not posses any teapots? She said after the meal that she would be unlikley to return, much less recommend the Latymer, which was embarassing for me as the host, but unarguable. All in all, a disappointing lunch.
