The Bay Horse

Clayton-le-Woods and Whittle-le-Woods, Chorley, 20-30£
13/06/2020: We've had a few mediocre takeaway meals whilst in lockdown, but the two we've had from The Mediterranean at the Bay Horse have been outstanding. All meals were super tasty and red hot. We had pizzas, pasta and some of the chicken meals and they were all delicious. Won't go anywhere else from now on. The staff here are all lovely too, they really go out of their way to make their customers feel special. 10 out of 10 !!
07/06/2020: Ordered a takeaway which was ready in 50 minutes and really tasty. I had the chicken souvlaki which was as good as when I’ve eaten it in the restaurant!!

Whittle Vintage Tearooms & Cafe

Clayton-le-Woods and Whittle-le-Woods, Chorley
27/04/2020: The best traditional afternoon teaSally who runs this place is wonderful The food is all homemade, fresh and delicious If you get chance to try the lemon drizzle scones you are in for a treat but the blueberry and fruit ones are also delicious The sandwiches on artisan bread perfectThe meringues melt - my favourite are the chocolate ones but any are delicious - sparkling with edible glitter. There’s a mini soup too which is always vegetarian and unexpected with the flavours - a great twist alwaysThis place is so good we nip in on our lunch break and take the leftovers back to work - envious looks every time as everyone wants to look at what we have. Occasionally I have shared! I am missing this place being open during this lockdown but there is a mini delivery service being offered on scones/brownies but this gets booked up as soon as posted on Facebook! This will be one of first to visit when open again Cannot recommend highly enough
04/03/2020: Found whilst driving through the area. Just a normal cafe type place. We had various jacket potatoes, when they arrived they looked quite small but everyone thoroughly enjoyed them and they left room for cakes. There were two youngish waitresses who were very polite and provided a brilliant service. A credit to this cafe. The only one thing I would say is the table was really dirty but perhaps they had just been busy. Thank you

Encore Chorley

Chorley North West, Chorley
03/04/2020: Visited here on the last day before lockdown and despite them running a revised menu the choice on offer was varied and plentiful, all the food from starter to dessert was of the highest quality and the attentive service was excellent, can't wait for them to open again as we will definitely be back, would highly recommend.
20/03/2020: Introduced a friend to try Encore's exciting menu, a refreshing change from the usual. There are several options on the menus, mostly vegetarian. The staff are very helpful and friendly and service is quick. The restaurant itself is homely and well decorated, also quirky! Above all the food is excellent, as is the presentation, well recommended.

The Spinners at Cowling

Chorley East, Chorley, <20£
15/05/2020: Highly recommended! Happy to say that Spinners are providing the same fantastic food and service as normal. Only just realised that they were doing takeout food (sorry) so got some black and white pudding bon bons for a starter, then a beef curry and king prawn curry for mains. The food was piping hot when we got it home and tasted brilliant. Looking forward to returning for more takeout treats!
02/05/2020: The best takeaway curry I’ve had in ages. I can’t wait for the Spinners to open up again for a big family night out! Thanks Glen and all your staff x

The Royal Oak at Riley Green

Brindle and Hoghton, Chorley, <20£
24/05/2020: We ordered Sunday Roast for 2 for take out and we weren't disappointed it was delicious. The beef was so tender it just broke up as soon as you touched it, the vegetables were cooked perfectly. Would definitely recommend 110% and we will definitely be ordering take out again and visiting with family as soon as they are open and allowing eat in. Brilliant Service.
10/05/2020: My girlfriend and I have visited The Royal Oak quite a few times and have never been unsatisfied. I was particularly fond of a curried lamb pudding, (I hope they see this and bring it back) It's a cosy place with friendly staff and the food is always good, as long as it's there, I'll keep going.

The Hinds Head

Chisnall, Chorley
03/05/2020: We ordered 2 chicken roasts with Lemon and Blueberry dessert, and it was all superb. Kev and his team are doing a great job and the food was just as good as eating in the restaurant, and they are managing social distancing during collection very well. Keep up the great work guys and we’ll see you soon hopefully! Adam & Emma.
14/03/2020: I have been in a few over the last couple of months.. twice we have been in as a large family group! There has never been a bad meal or complaint best meal we have ever had is from here.. Rachel has been working the times we have been there and she is a very good host and always makes us feel welcome even when the children can get loud and a little silly. Such a family favourite for us!

The Wheatsheaf

Lostock, Chorley, <20£
16/03/2020: So on arrival we noticed that the pub was busy which I think is fantastic for local business. The pub is a lovely looking place and warm and welcoming inside. However when walking into the pub it was unclear on what to do if you have booked a table so we stood for a few minutes at the door hoping someone may notice us that didn’t. Eventually we went over to the bar and waited until the young girl behind the bar had finished serving drinks to ask where to go. She told us to go through to the restaurant area and someone would be there to show us to our table. We went through to the restaurant area and there was no one around so we were counting seats at tables to try and guess where we were sitting. Eventually a young girl came through and showed us to the table we were stood around. Our party started to take there seats and I had asked for a high chair for my daughter who I was holding in my arms. The young girl started to clean a high chair and started to bring it over to the table HOWEVER another waitress told her we could not have the high chair because it was for a family that was know to the restaurant that hadn’t arrived yet. She then told me I would have to wait for a table to leave before I could have a high chair although there was an empty one sitting at an empty table. I politely informed the waitress that actually we were already here and the table with the empty high chair would not be arriving for several minutes so please could I use this high chair. After looking at me for a few seconds she went to ask the other waitress who of course could not turn away my logical idea. We got the high chair after standing at the table with my daughter in my arms for around 5 minutes. Our table was booked for an early tea at 3:30pm when we ordered we noticed there were very little meals left. The whole party wanted a Sunday roast however we were informed that there were only two available so without fuss we chose something else. I personally had one of the Sunday roasts that was left. It was nice although the meat was practically inedible as it was so tough so I left most of it. When ordering puddings we had the same issue there wasn’t much left. We all chose something else and pudding was ok. The bar area was extremely busy and there seemed to be a lady who knew the staff well coming in and out of the restaurant at her own free will chatting to the staff and shouting over to people at tables. To go to the toilet you practically had to climb over people and there feet and bags to get through. The toilets were not all that clean however I understand completely that it was a busy day. On my return from the toilet there were a group of men stood in a circle blocking the way back I politely said ‘excuse me’ to which they all turned round whispering and laughing at me. This made me feel extremely uncomfortable and by this point I couldn’t wait to leave. When we did decide to leave again we had to fight our way out. Overall the food was ok not amazing and the staff are young and inexperienced in my opinion the pub would thrive from more experienced staff who know what they are doing.
12/03/2020: Out for an exploration of the area with my other half, we stopped by for a couple of lunchtime beers and something to eat!

Cardwell Arms

Adlington and Anderton, Chorley
28/02/2020: This was our third visit since they opened and we have never been disappointed. We have had meals from the normal menu and the special Friday fish and chips, and everything has been great. It's great to have such a special place local, but it's worth driving to if you live further away.
23/02/2020: We never go out for breakfast but as it was my wife's birthday we thought "hang the expense" let's go and sample the cardwell £6 breakfast...It was very nice but the thing that really really irked me was that the fact that they charge £5 a pint for orange juice.. I'm a man who has been tucked up from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere but to be tucked up on orange juice 10 minutes from my front door really hacked me off.

Mag's Japanese Cafe

Chorley North West, Chorley
05/03/2020: Took my 12 year old for his first Japanese meal at the wonderful Mags. This isn’t ‘just’ a cafe, this is a little special hub where you can get the healthiest freshest tastiest Japanese meal at any time of the day through to early evening. We went at tea time , straight after work. In Mags little, but perfectly functional cafe 3 others were being served. The menu was spot on particularly if you’d never tried Japanese cuisine or simply wanted the freshness of good honest food. We had starters of vegetable gyoza and aubergine in teriyaki sauce followed by king prawn tempura donburi and chicken katsu curry. Delicious, really delicious. Washed down with a pear tea and a hot citrus yuzu drink. Whilst the seating area is that of a cafe the food is certainly that which you would expect served up in ‘fancy’ restaurant. Thank you Mags, it was excellent!
29/02/2020: First visit and can’t wait to go back. Such a great little independent. Lovely food and lovely service. Brilliant choices for vegetarians and vegans. Had the Miso Tofu Donburi which was delicious and so well presented. Will be back for some Ramen soon.

The Plough

Euxton North, Chorley, 20-30£
19/03/2020: I used to be a regular visitor to The Plough but after a couple of disappointing visits 2-3 years ago we found other places to frequent. However this week we decided to pay it a visit after hearing some good reviews.Gone has the old chalkboard menu that used to have every type of food imaginable. This has been replaced with a more traditional menu offering usual pub fayre. The pub itself has kept its old style look.I opted for the Plough burger which although pretty steep at nearly £16 for a burger, it was fantastic. 1lb of juicy beef patty topped with bacon, mushrooms and cheese with a more than generous helping of fries. Was a real Man v Food meal but one that I polished off no problem due to the fantastic taste. Sadly no room for a desert but I left satisfied and full to the brim. The landlord and landlady were welcoming and friendly. I’ll definitely be paying another visit to The Plough very soon. Thanks for a great meal and for bringing The Plough back up to scratch.
06/03/2020: (Traducido por Google) La comida y el servicio es excelente. Uno de nuestros favoritos con diferencia. (Original) The food and service is consistently excellent. One of our favourites by far.

The Old Stables Vintage Tea Shop

Chorley North West, Chorley
28/02/2020: A surprise venue for a child's fifth birthday that delighted all.The tea party atmosphere was fantastic, the food selection was excellent and the staff made it an occasion to remember. Lots on display to interest the children.Great value for money. It is wise to book as its gets very busy.
17/02/2020: We’ve visited a few times, always specifically for afternoon tea. The atmosphere and decor is lovely; quaint but not stuffy. Children are welcomed, with their own (very slightly) smaller afternoon tea option. The chocolate coated strawberry is a lovely finishing touch. Sandwich choices are good, and cakes are always amazing - and if you can’t finish it, they’ll pop it in a box to eat later. Can’t fault the servers or the service, that is always spot on.Hidden away in central Chorley, you’ll struggle to find a better afternoon tea locally. Best to book if you can as they’re always busy.

Coffee Shack

Chorley South East, Chorley
24/01/2020: Die Atmosphäre, die Bedienung, der Kaffee, die Mehlspeise, die Toiletten.... Alles grandios. Es bleibt nichts zu monieren.
27/12/2019: This is a really nice coffee shop and very reasonable considering the size of drink they serve. Large is exactly what they say, it's massive. Nice interior with lots of retro old football shirts in frames.
