I have been here quite a few times for both drinks and food with family and friends. I've never had a bad word t say about this place.

I have to share the experience I had when visting Gelligaer Fish Bar, firstly it was a very nice and welcoming atmosphere in the shop the staff were all well mannered and polite. They were happy to assist me in asking about portion and cod sizes etc. Lets get to the food, all I can say is the batter for the fish was crispy and it was the best fish I have ever tried. The chips were nice and tasted fresh not dried up like other fish and chip shops and don't get me started about the battered sausage it was amazing!! My experience was 10/10 and if you want good food then give this place a try! :)

Table booked for 1.30 when arrived was asked to order drinks by the bar to take up stairs.when we finally got served due to the wait of one staff serving we had a vodka in a Brandy glass. Then we made our way up the narrow stairs carrying our drinks, to be welcomed by a dirty carpet. There was no one they to guide us to our table so we decided to find one ourselves. Staff came to take our orders, she told us we had a choice of three meats which was fine, plus what sauces we would like with our meal we asked for mint but none came with our meal, we asked again halfway through our meal for the mint sauce, still none came. During our meal we overheard the opposite table being told they could have a choice of meats plus the opportunity to have all of each meats on the same meal, little unfair as we didn't have that option, plus they asked for the same sauces. To my surprise they got theirs. Finished the meal which was OK nothing special and waited for staff to take away dishes and bring the desert meun etc, no sign of staff and no desert meun after waiting what felt like an age we decided to leave. On paying we wasn't asked if the meal was OK did you enjoy etc etc just took the money and a goodbye and that was that. looking back I wished I complained, but my feelings were they wouldn't be bothered with the feed back. At the end of the day it's pub food nothing more, but good manners and service go a long way. It's the repete customers that keep businesses going wouldn't be going again.

Visited the Cross Inn with my brother for lunch. It was the second day of reopening and it showed with no hygiene rating. there was a wedding party in the lounge so had to eat in the bar which was no problem, the bar wasn't very clean the toilets didn't have any toilet roll. We ordered the Steak pie and mash with veg was told the gravy was extra. We got instant mash and side salad, my brother who as been a chef for 30 years asked about the veg and told them that the gravy was water and granules, he refused to pay the extra. The waitress said she would get some peas ordered but we refused as we would have eaten the rest before it arrived. The only thing nice was the pie loads of meat and enough gravy. We have eaten there a year ago with others of our family which prompted us to return. This as changed our minds.
