The staff at Pringles cafe are awful, rude and not to mention racist. We visited (my mum and I) today and couldn’t believe the attitude and customer service (or lack of) that we received all because they thought we were English. FYI, the English tourists are probably the ones who are keeping you in business so maybe you should treat them better!! We are in fact welsh, born and bred and speak the language. However we don’t sound welsh and spoke in English to them so they obviously just assumed that we were tourists. First impressions weren’t great as the woman on the till was miserable and clearly didn’t want to be there but the real issue we had was with a staff member called Maggie. We placed our order and 10 minutes later Maggie brought the food to us. I asked if I could have some mayonnaise to which she replied “go and ask her” and then pointed to the woman at the till. I just want to add that Maggie hadn’t explained to us that condiments cost extra so we thought that was she being unhelpful. There was a queue and we didn’t want the food to go cold so asked if she could get us some. She gave my mum a filthy look and reluctantly handed them over, again never mentioned that we had to pay so we thought that they were free like most cafes/restaurants (In all honesty I think it’s greedy charging customers for a sachet of mayonnaise when they’ve spent £13 on a meal and I don’t know anywhere else that does it but that’s another argument) My mum witnessed Maggie talking and laughing with her manager as she walked away so we can only presume that they were talking about us. There was also a couple sat behind us and Maggie came over to them and started talking about us in Welsh thinking that we didn’t understand. Funnily enough they asked for some condiments and she gave them for free, even though it was an issue when we asked. The difference is they were clearly locals. By this point we’d had enough so I asked if I could speak with her manager to which she replied “why, is there a problem?”. She clearly knew there was. Her and her disgusting attitude! I spoke with her manager but was struggling to get my words out as I was so annoyed with how we had been treated. Maggie was on the other side of the counter but came over and started saying “I’m sorry, I wasn’t talking about you”. She wasn’t close enough to hear what I had said to him so clearly knew what she had done wrong and was just trying to cover her tracks. We couldn’t even finish our food as she made us feel so uncomfortable and so we just left. Initially I felt sorry for her manager but after reading the reviews online, this is clearly a regular occurrence and he obviously doesn’t care how his staff behaves or treats customers. The entire team needs some serious training in customer service. This all could have been avoided had she explained the sauce cost extra and asked us to pay at the till. We would have paid with no issues. Also, if you’re going to talk about your customers, please do it where they can’t hear you, it’s extremely unprofessional. I believe we would have been treated differently had they known we were Welsh too. They just took an instant dislike to us because they thought we were tourists and then back tracked when we confronted them. We do our best to support local businesses but this cafe does not deserve people’s support! Absolute shocking service and we will not be visiting again. They are just lucky that we have not taken it any further as we couldn’t find any contact details online!
