EDITED: Email sent to address provided in their reply. I booked a table for 22nd February (back in January) and was advised to email our order in no later than a week before. I wasn't given an email address at the time of booking. So, I went on onto the Bowyers website and filled out an online enquiry form stating we already had a booking etc and here's our menu choices. This was sent on the 10th Feb. I didn't hear back from them. I got in touch via Facebook messenger. They said they hadn't received the email. I forwarded on the email and then was told there's no Kids Sausage option unless it came on the delivery. (they didn't so was offered the adults sausages - Fine. We all arrived ahead of the 1pm booking and checked in at the bar to order drinks around 12:45pm. The 'chef' was stood behind the bar trying to change the TV channel. We found our table and sat down. We then waited until 1:40pm ish for the x2 starters. At this ;point someone came over and said the x2 sides of garlic bread had been recalled by Greene King and would we like to order something else.(we didn't) The 4 year old said - Can't we just go to the shop to buy something to eat as our food isn't coming... It was nearly 2:30pm before the mains come out. (two young children -were very hungry at this point) The food was very mediocre at best- we've eaten here before and never had an issue. The jacket potato was barely warm in the middle and the chili con-carne that was on the top had gone dry where it was sat under the heat lamp. The kids meal with the adult sausages was written off the bill. The side of chips and onion rings were hot when we eventually received them. There wasn't a 'Check Back' to make sure everything was OK otherwise we'd have mentioned the jacket potato then. The extra Star given is for the two ladies working tirelessly - we could see they were under pressure as the pub was under staffed. It would be a ONE STAR review at best. The wait for the food was not worth it. If I'm honest, I wish we had just walked and hopped on a bus into Abingdon for a spot of lunch. We have made the decision to never eat in this pub again. It's such a shame this happened as this is our local - We felt sorry for the two members of staff which were working (one food running and the other on the bar serving drinks) It wasn't busy at lunch time when we were in on Saturday 22nd Feb.

We called in here as I’d never been and thought we’d try it out. We ordered two cheese scones with butter and two coffees and sat in the garden. Our very small scones arrived before the coffees, We thought as we buttered our not very cheesy cheese scones that the butter had a strange texture, the coffees were very small and not that hot. As we sat chattering I noticed on the butter wrapper, ‘use by 6/6/23’ The date of our visit being Monday 19th June!! My friend caught the attention of the waitress and told her we’d just eaten two weeks out of date butter, she just said ‘Oh sorry, I’ll tell the kitchen’ We sat for another 15 minutes half expecting maybe a further apology from the kitchen but nobody came near us, so we left having spent £12.30 on two small un-cheesy scones, stale butter and two small warm coffees. Obviously there won’t be a return visit.
