The best restaurants in Barcombe and Hamsey Lewes South East

We had a room booked on Saturday night for the Brighton Marathon on the Sunday. We arrived at 10 pm for a late check in. We have a well behaved cocker spaniel. We were not greeted with smiles at all …. We were told that dogs were not allowed…. We had rung a few weeks before to check on dogs but the staff said we had phoned the wrong pub and that they did not allow dogs in their rooms. There was no sympathy or offer to help at all. The woman behind the bar did not even give us eye contact. She simply kept her eyes on her screen/till. We were told it would cost too much to clean the room after we would have left. There were no suggestions or apologies, just a cold reception…. If you have a dog, this is not the establishment for you. We simply had to leave and find alternative accommodation very last minute on a Saturday evening.

Back in the 80s this was the top pub in the area. For about a decade now the place has changed management almost every year. For a while it was closed down. The owners (a brewery?) really need to work out what they want it to be - but that is probably housing. To key it as a pub they need to be less greedy. We visited on the day in April that it changed hands yet again. I wish them well but the welcome wasn’t great and they weren’t really ready for business.

Went to this lovely pub on 20th December for a staff Christmas dinner. We received a very warm welcome from the wonderful bar staff. Our drinks were kept flowing all evening and the food was absolutely superb. The staff went over and above to make sure all tastes were catered for even providing a starter that was not on the set menu. We really appreciated your warm and attentive service and all staff members agreed that they would definitely be back. Thank you for the wonderful start to the Christmas holidays for a bunch of weary teachers - its been a long term !!!!!

Most amazing dinner, between us we had roasts, burger and risotto and it was all fantastic. Lovely staff and cosy pub atmosphere.

Saturday night curry. Chicken tikka naga, vegetable dansak, onion bhajis, mushroom rice, poppadoms. Absolutely delicious, cannot fault it, melt in your mouth food.

Popular pub (with boat hire) next to the Ouse. Very prompt and efficient service. Children and dog friendly of course. Well situated for a riverside walk and plenty of parking.
