What a pleasure and privilege it is to have James and Emma running our local pub. From the service (major call-outs to Emma, Aiden, Lottie, Mark and all the other serving crew!) to the incredible food (James and team, you know who you are) to the overall vibe, The Oddfellows Arms in Caldbeck is a treasure of a local. James uses imported spices to make the freshest curries, and it shows — I was so surprised when I first tried them to find out that they were fresher than anywhere I’ve tried in London, and easily on par for taste! Sunday roasts are a treat, and I’ve really falling for the pork belly recently! Also, James and the kitchen team will regularly do special events, like Indian night, Asian night etc, which are always so special and like traveling internationally without the airfare. Thank you, Oddfellows Arms Caldbeck!

My wife and I visited the Watermill Cafe at 3.30pm on Saturday 26th October, the staff were getting ready to close at 4pm. We had travelled some distance for afternoon tea so they made a special effort to provide us with the full afternoon tea experience. There was a good choice of drinks, the tea i choose was great, i got 2 1/2 cups from the pot. The sandwiches were lovely, an ample salad was provided. After the sandwiches were brought out a cake stand full of cakes was presented with far too much cake to eat in one sitting, the cake we could't eat was packed into a takeaway box for later consumption. The staff were very attentive and provided an excellent service despite the fact that they were in the process of packing up for the day. We had a really loveley time and will return.

The old Crown is a fabulous, cosy traditional pub which we visited many an evening for dinner and a drink while on holiday in Hesket Newmarket. This is truly a special place and Helen, Simon and Tas the dog were so friendly and welcoming, as were all the staff and local community. The food and service was excellent, and in particular the steak and ale pie was the best we have ever had! A huge hit! This is obviously a much loved pub and rightly deserves its great reputation. It was so lovely meeting everyone there and we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome! It was a treat to meet all the dogs too! We will definitely be back when next on holiday in the area. Highly recommended!

Situated in a lovely little village, this shop and tearoom are in an idyllic setting. When looking at previous reviews I noticed that the most recent was from 2019, and wondered if the tearoom is still open. On a Tuesday in November it wasn’t, and as the “tearoom closed” sign said just that, I don’t know if they run limited hours or days in the off-season or if the tearoom is permanently closed. I would certainly suggest that you make a phone call in advance of any proposed visit.
