Ottima pausa pranzo!

I recently visited in a group of four on a Saturday night. Upon arrival there were no other customers. Two of us each ordered a murg bhuna with two sides of rice. The waitress didn't read our order back to us to confirm the items ordered. I received only rice and not the main dish. When bringing the food, the server asked if everything was alright and disappeared before we could respond! I spoke to the waitress and questioned where my main was, only to be told I hadn't ordered one! The waitress returned to say that I had ordered a different dish (that I also hadn't been brought). I watched the rest of my group eat their food while waiting for mine to now be cooked. They brought a hot rice with the dish but no apology, and I paid full price. The dish itself wasn't amazing and didn't taste spiced as stated in menu. Another in my group asked for an alcoholic drink but was brought non-alcoholic and told that was what he ordered, although they did replace it. At the start of the order they stated they would be able to provide separate bills but all were just put together when paying. I told the waiter taking payment that I wasn't happy with the experience and he seemed to smirk! It's worth noting that you pay a 12.5% service charge on the bill whether you're pleased with the service or not. I've had better and cheaper Indian food elsewhere and with good service. I honestly would not recommend this restaurant. The staff have a bad attitude giving the customer the impression you are in the wrong if there is a problem. Having worked in hospitality in the past, this is not good service.

My wife and I met with friends in the Limehouse area last month. We wanted to go to a relaxing place, and the Yurt cafe fit the bill. It is a casual restaurant with a very friendly staff. The menu consists primarily of breakfast type foods, soups and salads. The cafe is housed in a large tent like structure, however once inside it looks like any other permanent structure. Prices seemed moderate for the area. Several of the customers were working on their lap tops and seemed welcomed by the staff.

Chaotic service and given a table and chairs more suited to being outside, which it probably was in the summer, despite having booked a table. Overcooked starters although the main, byriani, was very good. Just uncomfortable with the chaotic service, sparkling wine about to be opened with no glasses on the table, for example.

This has been a staple of mine for thirty years or so, but I haven’t been for a few years. Completely gone downhill, the food was inedible. I was mightily surprised to read in The Observer the next day that Gilbert & George still go there regularly. I think it must be an old line they continue to trot out. No complimentary mezes as you get in most places. The homemade bread wasn’t baked properly. The meat was undercooked. The floor was slippery, the place appeared dirty, and the service was indifferent.
