Zoya Oulton in Leeds

Called in on spec with no booking but was very welcomed with big smiles. Food and service were both outstanding the restaurant is modern but cozy and has a lovely atmosphere. The biggest difference by far with this and other local restaurants is the genuine warm welcome you get every time you visit. You always feel like everyone is pleased to see you and really want you to enjoy their food. We love this place!

35 quid take out, took over a hour for delivery which isn't a massive issue but the quality of the food was bad. The chicken Nawabi Khana was grainy the chicken was not marinated, genuinely tasted like a super market attempt. The other curry we tried 'Karahi' was bland and again the chicken was so plain it was embarrassing. Bread was fine tho. I must say eating in at the restaurant is good overall but the take out is really under par, hard to recommend to anyone.

Lovely Restaurant with friendly and attentive staff.

Food is usually pretty good... not swimming in Ghee like other places I can mention. It's usually quite busy, even on a Sunday. We've had the odd occasion where new stuff we tried was overly sweet (not great for diabetics like me), but on the whole this is a reliable place to eat in. Personally, I like the Thali (mixed selection of dishes).

Edit Nov 2024: Had a very disappointing meal, the restaurant was extremely noisy, when the mains arrived two waiters were shouting dishes out, it was so noisy we couldn't hear so the food was thrown onto the table randomly. When clearing the table the waiter picked up a jug of yogurt sauce then turned it upside down and dribbled down my coat. We brought these issues to the attention of the manager who was apologetic but overly familiar with my wife. No concession was made whatsoever. All the old staff seem to have disappeared. Won't be back any time soon. My previous review: This is an outstanding restaurant, unless you can get there at opening time booking is essential, as well as all the usual curry dishes minimalistically listed they have lots of house specials, try the mango chill fish starter for something out of the ordinary.

Visited here last night with family. Was absolutely superb. From the service, array of food to the atmosphere and the food itself. Was fantastic! Would definitely visit again and highly recommend 👌

Service was amazing, despite being served the wrong order and my son taking a mouthful of vindaloo. There was a little commotion on one of the other tables with some choice words. The toilet facilities weren't great and the toilet roll was wet. The food tasted average but the experience was special. My children absolutely loved the experience of so many pickles with poppadoms. They enjoyed eating their curries. Would go again. 7/10

I was in Leeds for a short trip and wanted to try some Desi food. So ordered some Biryani and Kebabs from Zoya Oulton. The biryani was really bland and didn't have any taste, let alone the typical taste of a biryani. It's just yellow colored plain rice. Also the kebabs were pretty bland. Orderd cucumber raita also but it was just yoghurt with some pieces of cucumber. Didn't even have salt in the raita. I wouldn't recommend if you want to have authentic indian food.

Excellent tasty fresh food with great service. Went there this evening for my birthday it was full but we had booked a table and meal was great for 2 adults and 2 kids.

My husband & I shared a beautiful meal at Zoya last night. The high standard began with a warm smile & handshake from one of the best waiters (or perhaps maitre de?) we've met, Jiyaad; a young Leeds man. His explanation of their large menu, and recommendations, resulted in the best Indian food we've had in England. I hope the owner appreciates what an asset he has in Jiyaad. Atmosphere- stunning. Cleanliness - exceptional. Service - second to none. Only tiny glitch - a disrespectful 'joke' the owner pulled on my husband after politely being asked a question. Not impressed, no matter how much he tried to laugh it off. Still, best service, food & atmosphere we've experienced during our world travels in a long time. Smiles, Lindy & Terry

Called this evening for food, I've been a few times to Zoya and the food is pretty average... but it is difficult getting a good Indian these days. Centre of house is a really good member of staff, a very welcoming and smart young guy... makes you feel welcome. Unfortunately the rest of the staff leave a lot to be desired. It was the same last time I called .... if its not getting your food slammed down on the table with a total lack of eye contact it's the feeling that either the team don't like working there on an evening or ! They just don't like the customers... Zoya , just a note... your food is OK but your staff need some manners and some customer care training.

Six of us had poppadoms , starter and a main course . We all really enjoyed our night. The food is really good and the staff are great. We thought it was very good value.

Great restaurant. Great food, great people. The cocktail bar next door, which is linked to the restaurant, is an amazing touch. Highly recommend. The owners go over and beyond for their customers and just as importantly, their staff which definitely shows in the service.

We had a takeaway years ago and wasn't very impressed which is a disappointment really as the meal we had on Friday night was outstanding in every where the food the service and the atmosphere we will 100% be back maybe even this Friday again

Sort your yard out, the thrown out food, over spilling bins and the endless cigarette ends are causing problems for the neighbourhood. Disgusting. 🤢

Great place for a curry and a pint!

What a fantastic gem, we came to Leeds for the night to see one of the university’s with our son, we had the good luck of staying in Oulton and got to have dinner at this incredible restaurant. The staff were so friendly and helpful, chatting to us and making sure we were enjoying everything (but not overbearing) and gave advice on the menu. The food was fantastic with some dishes that were new to us, they even gave us a complimentary tipple at the end. The prices were really good (we’re from the south and would expect to pay almost double!) so we were really happy about that. They had music playing which really helped create a fun atmosphere, we were so, so impressed all round. We hope to stay in Oulton and eat here again, when visiting our son; who says he’ll be visiting the place when he starts in September as he said it’s the best he’s ever had! I can’t shout the praises highly enough, fabulous place xxx

We were staying in the area with family and decided to visit zoya for an evening meal....so glad we did!! We didn't have a reservation but they managed to get us in even though they were busy. Between us we decided it's the best Indian we've ever had and I don't say that lightly as I love my curry's! And my partner said its the best meal out shes ever had. Couldn't recommend this place enough! Fabulous.

Delicious food - interesting menu with unique combinations (rhubarb curry was a tasty surprise) and very attentive waiting staff. They were happy to adjust the heat of dishes to our tastes. Definitely recommend.

Fabulous indian restaurant. We have been coming several times now, the food, service and atmosphere never disappoints. The staff are incredibly attentive and make sure you are well looked after. The baileys shot and chocolates when receiving the bill is always a nice touch too. Thanks we will be back

Go to LaLa’s instead. What a nightmare this was. I’d avoid at all costs if you want poor service, managers who laugh when you complain and food that’s barely got any taste. There were only 2 of us dining and yet they got our order wrong. I had chicken pakoras for a starter and I’ve had better from a takeaway for half the price. Dripping in oil and no taste. Missed my partners main completely. We had to ask 3 times where this was as waiters were asking how our food was and if everything was okay. It took 15 minutes for his main to arrive. I’d already eaten awkwardly on my own at this point. Garlic naan was tiny compared to other Indian restaurants and burnt. Pilau rice had no flavour. Partners curry which was meant to be as hot as a madras was also tasteless and had no kick to it at all. Then we asked for our bill 4 times. Finally a manager walks over with the bill and we tell him about what’s happened. Apparently the waiter wrote our order wrong, yet he repeated it back to us and even commented on how my partner has ordered a very spicy curry. Very odd I find!! Then to top it off while we are walking out the manager is laughing in the door way to the waiter about how he messed up our order. Absolute waste of money and time. Not sure why people recommend this place.

Been here a few times now and always underwhelmed with regards the food always seems too dry and bland, however it’s always busy so maybe it’s just me

After recently visiting the oulton branch, myself and husband were left very disappointed due to the following. The pickle tray was fine, with no problems, but then we waited a long time for our starter. I had chicken pakora, which was very bland and quite tasteless. We then shared a main which what I thought was lamb karahi, as we had had this before from a different restaurant and it was lovely. But after we started eating it I found this also to be quite tasteless and tough, plus when my husband told me it tasted like chicken, that confirmed it. I left my main and expressed my disappointment to a member of staff, only to be told it wasn’t lamb, it was mutton, and was very unhelpful, but we were never told when ordering lamb. In our opinion the food and service has definitely changed, and not for the better. This used to be a 5* restaurant!! So Disappointed ☹️

Zoya is the best in the area, we travel from huddersfield as its so good. Food is excellent, staff very friendly and efficient, and the restaurant is very nice to dine in

Went with my friends for mine and my sisters birthday as we all love the cocktail bar next door and it’s local. However, service was terrible asked 4 times for water and got one jug with 4 cups between 10 of us. That was okay as it was busy but then we waited over an hour for mains to be served but the food was really decent. Popadoms were a great starter but the menu said 75p each and we were charged £23 for crushed up bowls of Popadoms technically we should have all had 3 each or 31 of them. Then my friend told the waiter that it was a birthday meal and they came with sparklers and Ice cream a lovely surprise, until it was £16 on the bill and we were not told. That was okay it was a treat so I didn’t mind paying it until it came to the bill and the bill prices didn’t match the prices on the menu we were charged and additional £2 on each dish and the sides which between 10 adds up. With how hard the bill was to read it made splitting it impossible. Just disappointed really Saltos saved it in the end. Always a go to for us girls.

Ive been lucky enough to dine a number of times at Zoya for family celebrations every time the food is fabulous i would go anywhere else for a curry .The staff are always lovely and its a lovely restaurant its a 10 from me

My family and I came to Leeds to spend NY with my other family members who live there. They booked us all at this restaurant. The food was lovely, the service was good. We had fun and enjoyed our new year party for my nephew. If anyone lives near Zoya I’d recommend. Sadly I live in West London so this was my first and last time. Thank you for a lovely night out 🎊🎉💕🥂. Happy new year 🥂

WHAT. A. PLACE. New year’s eve at Zoya was INCREDIBLE! Not only was there exceptional food & service, but also very entertaining staff, local music, and lots of party fun. I would highly recommend Zoya to anyone, especially for events like these!

Lovely Christmas Eve meal at Zoya tonight, the service was outstanding, much better than the Morley branch last time we visited! Thought we were very well looked after. The food was great and well presented.

Really great food delivered, except that when I ordered 4 popadoms as part of my meal, I dont expect them to turn up looking like this. Are there even four in there. Who knows. Unlikely to be rushing back there for another order. Do they *really* think this is OK?

Packed to the rafters on a Friday night we were lucky to get a table without reservation. Excellent variety on tbe menu in addition to the normal staple Indian dishes. Good portions well presented by courteous staff.

The best curry I’ve had in 56 years of curry eating (started at 3). #ZoyaCurryLeeds Unprepossessing location and kerb appeal. But packed when we arrived at 7.15pm and still when we left at 9.00. Friendly and relaxed crew. Food had that fresh zing and multi-layered flavour 😛

Great little Indian, this is one of our favourite places to get Indian food. It’s always busy and has a cocktail bar attached to the same premises, perfect for a pre meal drink. Service is always great and the food spot on. Try the Hashnaji Flavour if you don’t want the classic curries but want something spicy. They also do takeaways and delivery.

Tough and sparce portion of lamb Egg rice....is not actually egg rice...more deep fried rice mixed starter contains a stale non descript generic meat and left over deep fried potatoes

Zoya is nicely presented and has a modern vibe to it from an interior perspective especially when compared to other similar eateries. Atmosphere was also good and felt active. The food was somewhat average actually, we were given what appeared to be like a wall planter which had been repurposed as a poppadom trough and this didn't really suffice between 5 people, in reality it was probably less than 4 poppadoms. To accompany these we were given 2 pickle trays with 6-7 pickles on each. Ridiculous amount given the poppadom situation. Starter was actually quite poor, I had fish Pakora and it just didn't have much flavour. I'd say that this was the worst element of the meal other than service which I will circle back to shortly. For a main I had Indian Butter Chicken, The flavours were quite nice. The chicken could have done with being a little less dry but it tasted reasonable. Pilau rice felt fresh, naan bread again relatively average and nothing extraordinary here. Now the unfortunate running theme with Zoya is service. This can be seen reflected in other reviews I read. Staff are ill trained to be working in hospitality and this should be addressed at the earliest opportunity as the business will suffer over time. I felt forced to help clear our table, which has never happened to me personally before whereby the server was demanding that we pass all our plates down the table and almost borderline passive aggressively. Now I'm not wanting to be wait on like some sort of Roman emperor but I was trying to enjoy conversation and the waiter just kept being rude and interrupting me to pass him various plates and cutlery. Extremely awkward, unorthodox and actually very rude. Waiting for the bill felt like it was an eon and that we'd been deserted, only then as we all rose from our seats to go pay up at the counter we were then pounced upon by the same rude waiter who clearly thought we may have attempted to walk out and basically wanted us to pay but on the most unusual terms I've ever experienced. We just wanted to split the bill 5 ways and pay across multiple cards, however we were refused the ability to do so as we we're told the restaurant would incur a charge per card... At this stage everyone's interest for the experience had somewhat soured and we were left with a bitter sense of regret to be honest. It's that moment as you're leaving through the door of an Indian restaurant and you say to yourself 'We should have just gone to Aagrah'... Zoya isn't worth your time really, I'd recommend just going somewhere else. Aside from this it's in a really strange location opposite a Ford garage so there's also that.

Nice meal, tried a new veggie dish which I've never come across before, very nice indeed. Three starters, mains, & rice, 1 beer each £78, a bit pricey compared to Tamworth Indians....

Beautiful Indian meal. No sign .of food swimming in gee or red food colouring like most Indian meals. Super curries and a lovely bar at side, for a drink before your shown to your see .

First time buying from Zoya and so glad I gave them a try. Not the cheapest but absolutely delicious food, ready for collection on time and still piping hot even after a ten minute drive home! A warm welcome when I went to collect as well. Will definitely buy from again and would love to visit the restaurant to dine in, based purely on the quality of the food and the warm welcome. Cannot recommend highly enough.

This was mine and my partners second visit .. we had a few cocktails in Salto, then went though to Zoya to sit down for our food. The food again was beautiful.. even thou my partner got chips (hahaha) . The staff each and every one of them , were friendly, and could not do enough for us . Absolutely fantastic guys! Zoya, thank you again for a wonderful experience, we will definitely continue to visit this very lovely establishment. Wes Oh almost forgot, thank you for the Bailey's at the end of our meal , wonderful touch!

Really bad food. Got the sirloin steak and it was like charcoal and extremely chewy (asked for medium) staff extremely rude, asked my partner for a drink and then walked away without even asking me. Told us the kitchen was closing soon when there was still a table to be seated, which got their food before us, they got free poppadoms before their starters which we never got. They're lucky we paid full price! Would not recommend to anyone.

Was in Leeds on business and needed something to eat in the evening. It's good reviews are justified. Great food and service. Bit pricey for a non alcoholic cobra, however. Nuff said.
