¡GUAUU!

The pop up was in East London in a very trendy space - loved the atmosphere and the service itself was excellent. Unfortunately, the food was in no way authentic Ghanian cuisine. The rice lacked flavour; the stew was the same and didn't taste Ghanian in the slightest and I was very disappointed. If you want authentic Ghanian food - don't go here.

Informal, amable y encantador 🙂

We were really happy to finally have the chance to taste what Zoe's doing after many months reading about it, so a few weeks ago we booked a table at the current Zoe's Ghana Kitchen location in Hackney after listening a BBC podcast where she was one of the main guests. It was pretty disappointing. What she's doing is enormous and has an obvious value by itself, however, as a customer, and once you're there, you cannot avoid the feeling of being cheated by media. Been generous, I can say that all standards are very basic, including atmosphere or table service. The good point is, again, what Zoe is doing putting Ghanian food on the map, however, again, once in the table it doesn't feel so different or special as media tries to tell. Maybe is the problem of the current Western culture and our desires for something constantly new (even it that isn't so new or it is quite unmature yet). Food was ok. Not great, not unforgettable, but fine. Many dishes from the menu weren't available (thing that I don't understand because many tables were empty and we booked for dinner at 8pm) and after make our order, we changed it because some of our dishes weren't available. Finally they brought to us a wrong bill. When they brought it by second time, it wasn't our bill. So basically, go for it to pay attention to new trends or just to know more about Ghana, but keep your expectations low.

After all the raving, we expected this place to really impress. It was unfortunately so dry, the whole meal was like eating sand. Because of this, we couldn’t really taste it. It was very expensive for the small portion size. Also, some of the toppings had run out, staff failed to mention this when we paid and only told us when we asked without an apology or an offer for a refund.

After shopping for running shoes with my Darlin on this beautiful, cool day in Savannah we stopped here for lunch. Temps in the low 30s and their Tomato Bisque soup with chicken salad sandwich was right on target. My granddaughter had the soup and side of pasta salad which is loaded with feta. There were too many things on the menu I wanted to try so I will return!

Went there on a Saturday night for a bite to eat after watching a film at the Ritzy. It was quite busy.Service once ordered was prompt. We had grilled lamb chops, Jollof spiced fried chicken , okra friesand jollof rice. I must say, the food had an authentic Ghanaian taste but a lot less greasy, so I was very happy. Prices were low. I was so impressed I ordered a portion of food to take away. For the price , the food was excellent. I hear they’re moving to East London next month, Brixton’s loss.

This place has been on my list for a while, considering we enjoyed the food in Ghana last year. Sadly, despite the friendly service and seating flexibility, I would give the food 2.5 if I could. It’s pretty bland, with none of the punch of the food we had in Ghana. We got the plantains with cinnamon and spices- kelewele- and it tasted like it reads. Pleasant enough but none of the richness of the kelewele we had in the country. I got the groundnut and avo salad which was actually pretty tiny and it’s mostly diced onions with guacamole so tasty enough but I only finished half bc didn’t want all the onions. The jollof rice had some flavour but much less toned down than we had before. My husband said the fried chicken, although it is presented nicely, just tasted like basic fried food, with nothing special. He didn’t finish it. The friendly server offered me a taste of the red bean stew which I appreciated bc it was a bit too hot for me; yet, weirdly, it was also bland! So spice but little taste? Anyway, won’t be returning. I would recommend African Kitchen in Islington instead.

Positives: very interesting location in Pop up Brixton;Very friendly and hospitable waitress/chef;Opportunity to try different cuisines; and cool, relaxed vibe. Beautiful woman everywhere I looked. I want to caveat my words below by saying we (the three) had a cracking time in Zoe’s, it’s cool and uncontrolled and the waitress/chef really was fab. We all tipped and agreed it’s places like Zoe’s (and the pop up) what makes London great. I couldn’t in all conscious give a 4* review. My 3* review is weighted entirely by the food and VFM metrics, and I’ve attached no weight to the beauty of the ladies or the thinness of my hair. Less positive: the food wasn’t great. Nothing at all to do with Ghanaian cuisine, it was just the dishes lacked seasoning; depth of flavour and a couple of items were well over-cooked (lamb cutlets and plantain fries). Portion control is slightly miserly and Zoe’s is quite expensive for a pop up. We wish Zoe, her wonderful colleague, and the pop up all the best for the future.

I was eyeing up Zoes restaurant since almost a year now, but unfortunately for us her pop-up venture in Brixton is always so full of people so we really had no luck until last week’s London’s African fest where we finally got the chance of tasting her plates. After a 20minute of queue waiting, we finally found ourselves in front of our lunch: A meal bundle for two (around 9 quid for both), comprised of Jollof chicken (delectable with just the right seasoning), Jollof rice (tasty and hot!) and Kelewele. Especially this last one was really out-of-this-world. Bravo Zoe, good job, I hope seeing you again anytime soon.

I had done a lot of research for my wife’s birthday to make sure I made it a special one. I found Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen on trip advisor and the review sounded amazing.I have been waiting so long to find Ghanaian food and this was such a find! I was not disappointed. This place is incredible. It was a Saturday lunchtime and we were welcomed by a lovely lady who was literally running the lunch shift on her own. Meeting and greeting. Taking orders and then cooking it all herself. You weren’t waiting for you food for long either. From order to plate took 20 mins. Allowing a time to sip beer from Ghana and a beautiful home crafted cocktail. We ordered on recommendation the lamb chop, buttermilk fried chicken, jollof rice and plaintain. Wow! It was everything the reviews had said. Beautiful flavoursome food. Not too heavy. The rice was perfectly cooked, the chicken crispy and light and the lamb chop was great with the peanut sauce. The fried plantain just finished it off perfectly with the crayfish mayo. That was out of this world! You need to try this place guys, you will not be disappointed

The food was good. It was spiced well but order the tilapia at your own risk. We paid 7.50 pounds for it and it was as big as maybe 1 small chicken strip (like those tiny frozen fillets that come individually wrapped at the grocery store). I don't know if it's the American in me that expected more but I was a little offended for my 6 ft husband when we opened our containers and saw the tiniest piece of fish. We discovered this on trip advisor whilst staying in Brixton and gave it a go, very interesting. There were very few things on the menu but very tasty, probably our best meal of the week - so why only 3 stars?1)Tiny and mostly uncovered,so the weather could be a big issue.2)Price of wine was ridiculous - this was Brixton not Mayfair.3)A practise I hoped to never see again(though I did the very next day!) - automatic service charge and then the suggestion of a tip, this slightly spoilt what had been a very enjoyable evening.

3 hungry men arrived too late fro lunch, too early for dinner, or at least that"s what we thought til we met the lovely welcoming Nathalie who assured us we could eat. We ordered lots and the lovely Nathalie managed to chat to us as she cooked. I felt like I was in my mothers kitchen. Two of us men were Irish and Nathalie's amused us with stories about her Irish Mother, ( Dad from Ghana) and the fun summers spent in Ireland. But back to the food! Nathalie cooked us a feast , Ghana with a twist , is what she said. Everything and I mean everything was delicious....from the best chicken I've ever had to the best lamb I've ever had, Succulent plantain chips, to ocra and rice , avocado groundnut salad , I don't have the descriptive power to explain the spices and seasonings but suffice it to say we fell silent while eating because this was food to be taken seriously. I ate , I overate, I may have moaned, I certainly gave meaningful serious appreciative looks to my fellow diners, I felt sad when the last morsel left the plates, I need to go back, I hope too many people don't find out about this place, I need to get a table every time and the lovely generous warm & welcoming Nathalie needs to cook my food every time. Now I've made myself hungry .....I'm getting the train to Brixton.

Based on the stellar reviews here, I tried Zoe's and came away a little disappointed. First, the portions are tapas size, meaning you need to order two starters and a main dish to be full. That'll total at least 15 quid PP Beers are a hefty 6-7, though they offer Star beer which is hard to find outside west Africa. The fried chicken was great: tasty with a crisp, think batter. Very good. However, the fish was bland and so was the rice, nearly redeemed by a slightly spicy sauce.Zoe's is part of Brixton Pop, a food-and-drink spot ("food court" doesn't describe it) made from reconstituted shipping containers. Smart. But there are only a few tables outside and even less room inside that you share with the kitchen. Warning.Service was friendly. However, Zoe's apparently adds a service charge without telling you. My bill added up about 12% higher. Perhaps I didn't see this on the menu, but I wish this were clearer.I have mixed feelings about my meal and am puzzled by some of the other reviews. Based on the cramped surroundings, I feel that the food is overpriced, tapas or not.

This is a truly great spot in Brixton. The tiny container had space for one cook and one waitress and they handled the Friday night crowd very well! We ordered most the "Light Bites" menu which were all vegan and gluten free... Meat and fish eaters had a great looking mains menu too. Booked a table here for mother's day the Friday before. Got a call from the kitchen at 10:30pm on Saturday night to say there was a trouble with the booking and to come half an hour earlier as the kitchen was closing at 5pm. No obvious reservation sign was on the table when we arrived but luckily there was a table free (not wiped down). I ordered the Red Red stew and honestly it was tasteless and topped with cold underripe plantain. I couldn't finish it. Was really disappointed because TripAdvisor is full of rave reviews for this place. The kitchen was obviously open for later than the man on the phone told me it was going to be, he clearly had plans and wanted to leave work earlier that day. The staff were inattentive, my sister's okra fries came well after the rest of our meals and there was no explanation was given as to why. Just a bit of a let down really.

I can not say enough for how much I love this place. The service was great and the food was wonderful. I lived in Ghana for 2 years and had a lot of experience with the local food. What is great about Zoe's is it takes a lot of the flavours you would find in Ghana and makes it accessible to a wider audience. The woman of the place that night, Natalie, was amazing, friendly, and eager to answer all the questions I had about the food and how the restaurant started. Yes, it is in a slightly confusing location and it can get loud on a night with a band, but the food and staff are worth it. Have you ever wanted to travel to a country to indulge in the local cuisine, only never having the time or the money to go? Imagine my surprise when I discovered Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen, nestled in a shipping container in London’s Pop Brixton. My taste buds were immediately travelling to West Africa, where I am dying to go. I’ve been longing for the flavors of Ghana, and I’ve finally found them.Wanting to share my gastronomic desires with my significant a good friend, I took him to Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen for a weekday lunch. While the actual dining area is intimate, there’s several spots to sit and eat outside, and since the weather was in our favor, that’s exactly what we did. The service was impeccable, everyone was so warm and inviting, like eating fresh home-cooked meals with your extended family. Definitely the right West African vibe.We shared some hand-cut plantain chips, which had the perfect amount of seasoning. The tapas style main plates are great for sharing, which is exactly why we ordered a few different ones. The Ghana style butterfly prawns were perfectly grilled, the citrusy-spice flavor really tingled my tongue. Zoe’s spiced peanut sauce is exactly the right accompaniment to the savory grilled lamb cutlets, and Zoe’s Jollof Spiced Fried Chicken transported me to Ghana instantly with its spicy heat and tender meat. Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen may be a little restaurant, but the flavors, service, and restaurant design are anything but small. I highly recommend this gem!

Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen may be a little pop -up restauran, but the flavors, service, and restaurant design are anything but small. I highly recommend this gem!

This is a beautiful little place in Brixton; I found it because of the extremely inspiring Afro-funk music that came out of the kitchen... and I was not disappointed! Food was even more inspiring and I really enjoyed the whole experience!

My wife and I have been trying African food a lot recently and a quick look at tripadvisor while we are over in London for Xmas threw Zoe's Ghana kitchen to the top. The restaurant is inside the Brixton popup and then up the stairs. Quite easy to miss so keep your eyes peeled. Zoe's sister was there to welcome us and advise on food and the chef was also very friendly. We had the okra fries, felu felu (spelling?) and then a chicken stew, chicken wings (sorry, forget the name) and one other dish. All were excellent and the atmosphere in the popup as a whole was superb. Would really recommend this place for those of you who want to take your African food experience beyond Ethopian/Eritrean, not least as the vibrant popup is a great place for a drink before/after your meal!

If you like hearty food served with hospitality and done with a welcome surprise, this restaurant is hard to beat. I have to give special mention to the chef, Tim aka Kojo, aka Obroni of Brixton, whom made us feel welcome and talked us through the menu in an engaging way.The only downside to this place is that it needs more seats!!!!

Having been to Ghana a couple of times I wanted to re-live the food in England. I was not disappointed! We arrived to find that the restaurant was not open but when I said that we had come a longish way especially to eat there the cook opened up for us specially. This sort of service alone deserves 5 stars! We had red red, fufu, peanut stew, fried chicken, okra and plantain and all were delicious. All of the dishes were very similar to what I have had in Ghana. It is incredibly informal in the communal eating space in Brixton. I will be back!

First visit to Zoe's Ghana kitchen did not disappoint! These are great big flavours served up with dedication by a friendly team. The atmosphere on a Saturday night is buzzing and the location in Pop Brixton adds a sense of authenticity and fun. Would this all work as well in a different venue - I'm not sure, but does it work here - hell yeah! The dishes are generous, the prices are fair and you come away feeling like you have been somewhere and done something different without any gimmicks. The open kitchen means you get to chat to your chef - in our case the very lovely Kendrick - and get advice on what to order as well as the origin of your food...and crockery! Support from the equally lovely Lucie and Zita meant that we were never without service with a smile. Absolutely fantastic!

We dropped into this restaurant on a whim having heard some nice comments about it. Some difficulty finding it initially, not realising that it was semi-disguised as an ISO Shipping Container - as were many of the restaurants thereabouts! Initially not sure about the place (coming from the more sedate London suburbs) - however we were immediately made very welcome by the owner, Zoe. A most charming lady of Ghanaian and Irish parentage. The food was served in 'tapas-style' and proportions. We had dishes of beef, chicken, lamb chops, plantain, pancakes - which were exquisitely and delicately flavoured. Although delicately spiced, the palate was never over-whelmed- and the combination of dishes (as recommended by Zoe) were a perfectly balanced and very, very tasty selection. The meal was accompanied by a couple of bottles of Star (Nigerian) larger for myself and two generous glasses of Californian Chardonnay for my partner. This is an absolute little gem of a restaurant. Fantastic food. Friendly staff. Fun atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended....

Heard lots of really great things about this place, but ultimately left really disappointed. Obviously it is essentially a pop up, so cramped seating is to be expected and that wasn't really a problem, but my boyfriends food arrived 10 minutes after mine and that was quite annoying. Additionally, a £40 bill at the end of the night for essentially chicken and rice with a beer and lemonade is pretty awful, our local Jamaican is half the price and much better! Not sure what everyone was really raving about, very average food.

We just went here for Saturday lunch. The food is excellent, very tasty and plenty of it. They suggest you order up to 3 dishes each but that would probably be far too much. As a pop-up it's small - we sat outside but this won't be possible soon and it's tiny inside with only 3 tables. We shared spicy plantain chips, lamb cutlets, fried chicken and jollof rice, it really was all lovely, correctly spiced and perfectly cooked. The avocado we ordered never arrived, it seems they forgot! The problem also seems to be that a lot of advertised dishes were not available - no shito parcels, spicy cashews or prawns and they did not have the beer I would have liked to try either. Also there seems to be just one lady doing all the work and one waiter who kept disappearing! Because all the food arrives randomly as and when it's ready she kept forgetting who had eaten what and kept asking what we were waiting for - perhaps not her fault, she needs some help.We would certainly go again for the delicious food but not if we were in a hurry!

The four of us had the tilapia, red red, jollof rice, plantain chips, deep fried okra and lamb. Every single dish we had was perfectly spiced, fresh, hot and delicious. The plantain chips and the okra in particular were incredible - the okra had a tempura batter with chili and I think nutmeg, and was maybe the best okra I've ever had. The waitress was extremely friendly and accommodating - patient as we took ages to order (it was so difficult to choose!) and as we moved inside from outside. It's a really lovely place and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Bring a few people so you can try everything.

We reserved a table for 3 on a Thursday night and we were seated straightaway and given menus. As there were 3 of us we ordered 5 mains and 2 sides between us and it was the perfect amount. The food appeared when it was ready and was so delicious and fresh. None of us had ever had Ghanaian food before and we would definitely come back. The two staff members were attentive and it was great how the chef brought the food to your table. Highly recommend! Tip: the Banoffee Pie is out of this world.

A small and cozy place inside the Brixton street markets, with traditional Ghanese food that is very tasty (and spicy) and nice service. Don't mistake it for the other place dowstairs (it's the one going up he stairs).

My hubby and I visited here to treat ourselves to lunch one sunny day. We had black bean stew with gari and plantain. It was so delicious and very filling too. Real food for a great price. The palm wine was okay but I've had better brands elsewhere. We were served by a very helpful member of staff who even shared with us how palm wine is made. I recommend this place if ever you are in Brixton. We will certainly visit again

This place is small and so naturally options are limited but the options they do have are lovely! If you're wanting somewhere that's fresh and has a focus on real, fresh and healthy ingredients then this is a great place. I have often popped by and grabbed a cold green juice and a cookie! I once had a chicken stew (something along those lines) and it was full of flavour. I've also ordered online through deliveroo which was handy! I'd definitely recommend this as a place to eat if you're nearby!

Good food - fresh and tasty. Experience ruined by waitress on shift (Sunday afternoon). On arrival, we asked if we could use our taste card, given the taste card app said it was accepted on Sunday's. As expected, the waitress said use of the card would be fine and we proceeded to order. On receiving the bill, the taste card discount had not been applied and we were informed by the same waitress that Taste card was not accepted on Sunday's and the app needed updating. Not only were we charged full price and received little in the way of an apology but she also had the cheek to add a 12.5% service charge to our bill!Shame really, ruined the experience and must also be in contravention to taste card rules? Looks bad on both parties.

We hadn't been to Pop Brixton before, and a sunny day would have been better, but we had a warm welcome, a blanket, and good food, so it was worthwhile getting a bit damp on the way there. There are only 10 seats inside, but lots outside, and you can get your food in a box to take into the other drinking/seating areas too. Recommended.

Having failed to get in over the weekend, a weekday lunch was much rewarded with deliciousness: Lamb chop in spicy peanut sauce, red red beans, butterfly prawns and chicken with shito mayo and plantain. Great beers too. Wanna go again for all the stuff I didn't have.

Porzione abbondante, molto saporito e leggermente piccante. Tornerei volentieri per provare altro!

Tasty African food (could need a bit more salt or at least some salt on the table) with just the right level of spice. The chicken portion is generous and not spicy so perfect for kids. The beef suya is nice but could be a bit more on the pink side. Overall a great relaxed lunch experience with friendly staff.

We had a fantastic meal tonight at Orit’s Ethiopian Restaurant. We ordered a sampler menu, with both meat and vegetarian dishes. The food was excellent, the service quick, and they were very responsive to food allergies. Highly recommended and we will definitely come back. A meal for three was around 40 pounds, extremely good value. Bathrooms were very clean as well for those who value such things.
