Zizzi - Cardiff Bay in Cardiff

Had the most amazing meal here before heading off to a show. The staff really do know how customer service is done. Great service from the moment we arrived. Food is also very good and done very well. Would highly recommend booking as this place was almost full on a Tuesday evening in November.

Dreadful service. Arrived 5.35pm - pre booked for 5.45pm. Order for starter taken 20 mins later - never arrived. Left 6.30pm. Complained but waitress not particularly helpful. Won't be back.

Food was lovely and service good. Lovely location at the bay, but asked waiters twice if the main door could be closed as the draft was freezing. It’s nearly November so the apparent reluctance to close the door when a guest asks was disappointing. Sat there for the duration in my coat.

Amazing pleace! We visited this restaurant and we are not disappointed. Staff very friendly took our order quick. Food was freshly made. Seafood pasta was very tasty. Prawns super fresh. My partner ordered beef ragu. Children pizza freshly made. We will definitlwy come back.

Really dissapointing. We ordered bruschetta and it was tomatoes on stale bread etc. No flavour. No garlic. I ordered lasagne and couldn't believe how small it was when it arrived. It was a third of the size. Honestly no exaggeration. We checked with the waiter if they had served me a starter as a mistake but they said no. I don't blame the waiting staff because it's not an easy job. But I can't believe there is someone letting food of that standard be served. It cost us £87 too!

Horrendous service , manager came out took our order ,got it wrong , delivered childrens meal without starter , adults meal was wrong , came out with correct meal cold and no bolgnaise in the spag bol. Not once did the manager who served us asked if we were ok , I had to go and find staff myself. He told us he would write the bill off , wouldn't return here never sorry and we dine at zizi bham lots , it's quite sad to see that the Cardiff bay is not on par.

Visited Zizzi Cardiff Bay last night (24/8) and the staff made it the most wonderful experience. Manager was able to fit me in despite being very busy. The young waiter with brown curtains was super friendly and also the young brunette waitress was fantastic. They really made my visit outstanding. So glad I picked Zizzi last night because the waiting staff made my day. So friendly and helpful, so chatty. Couldn’t fault a single thing. They both deserve a pay rise ❤️ ps. Food and wine was delicious too.

I visited last Saturday we didn't eat so this isn't a reflection on the food . However l ol leaving I had a nasty fall there ARE NO HANDRAILS ON THE BOTTOM STEPS leading to multiple injuries please be mindful

Lovley location, but the cocktails were awful, tasted like cheap squash, but very expensive. Don't waste money on these.

Having been to another Zizzi branch before, I was expecting a reasonable dining experience at Mermaid Quay. Lovely location and, at 5.30pm on a Wednesday evening, very quiet. However..... My wife's carbonara resembled cardboard on something sticky and apparently tasted even worse. My fish was OK and my stepson's pork belly the same. Even my mocktail's mint spring was black ad wilted! When the waiter came to take our payment, my wife expressed her opinion of the meal and he merely shrugged. No hint of an apology. We won't be back!

Waited 10 mins a queue of other parties requesting tables 2pm on a Sunday. Restaurant 1/4 full with 3 visible staff members. Finally acknowledged to each of the 5 parties turned away as 'no room' More staff needed for sure as went and spent my money elsewhere.

Great location with views out to the bay. Large selection of food as expected with Zizzi. Only thing that let them down was the shortage of staff - there need to more on duty as a site that large can’t manage with just 4 staff at lunchtime. This I’m afraid meant that our food was ‘tepid’ as it must have been left out on the side after cooking while waiting for a staff member to deliver it. Clearly not the fault of the staff but if the management are expecting the place to be run by so few members of staff I can see this being a more regular issue. We love Zizzi and just felt a little let down on this occasion.

Terrible service - slow and rude. We arrived just after midday. It took at least 10 minutes to even order our drinks. When I asked if I could order the mains (the children were hungry) the waiter said no! We didn't receive any drinks for at least 30 minutes and then the starters came around an hour after we had arrived. When the main courses arrived they arrived separately - chips didn't come with the pizza and the adult mains were far slower). We ended up not staying for dessert - it was just so slow. If I hadn't had a voucher to use I would have left at the start. Awful service.

We had great experience in the past years, but the service was really bad, it took over an hour to get food and no notice of some kind. The tables around us had the same bad experience. The food it self were okay, but nothing special and I would not choose it for the price again.

We had dinner here and food was excellent and very taste. Would be more thank happy to come back. Grate service snd. Warm atmosphere.

Great lunch at Zizzi, the Fonduta Board is a great sharing starter - a good size so make sure you’re hungry if you’re having a main also. The new Wagyu pizza was lovely and definitely recommended. We were looked after perfectly by Charlie M who was friendly and attentive.

We visited Zizzi in Mermaids Quay on Mother's Day for lunch and at the end of the meal we left feeling satisfied. Things started off well. Our table was waiting for us on arrival. Our drinks order was taken promptly. Ordering our food initially seemed to go ok. Unfortunately the Waiter made several mistakes. Our starters arrived but 3 of the orders were wrong. These were sent back. For the mains 2 of our orders were wrong. Classic Pizza's were ordered but Rustica Pizza's were served up. The toppings on one of the Pizza's was completely wrong so this was sent back. We asked for the Classic Pizza to be sent out (the original order) but again a Rustica Pizza was sent out. Maybe the ordering Console is difficult to navigate for the Staff? The food and drink that was served up was nice. The Staff did there very best to rescue the situation and fair play to them they were all friendly. Despite the difficulties we had a lovely afternoon.

I thought we'd be safe at a chain like Zizzi for a quick pizza so I didn't read any reviews, but .... believe the awful reviews! We left after twenty minutes of complete inattention from staff. We were seated promptly enough but after that not so much as eye contact and we went to a warm welcome elsewhere.

The staffing was poor, we weren’t given any attention and checked on, half an hour to take our order and another half hour for our drinks to arrive. Staff weren’t cleaning tables as people were leaving so the restaurant was a mess. Counted about 10 dirty tables at 7pm. Staff seemed to be chatting in the kitchen instead. Food was okay but pizza was cold.

Dangerously understaffed, terrible wait times even with a booked table. Server pushed us to sign up for a dodgy rewards app (that seemingly violates GDPR) rather than take our order. We used to go here regularly but will not return.

Went for a pre theatre dinner as a group of 5 and had a lovely meal! Lovely venue with so many good food options - a must visit when you're down the Bay!

Terrible customer service, food was cold and bland. Table was sticky. Toilets were disgusting. Food overly expensive for what it is and wont return here.

Second time we've visited & had bad service. First time they refused to take our Zizzi's gift voucher as payment & when I complained the manager left me a very rude voicemail. This time was even worse... the customer service was not existent & quite frankly appalling. We ordered sharing starters, we were given no side plates or oils etc. The main meals (7) came out all at separate times with food being taken to other tables in between, came to clear table 3 times but still didn't take my dirty plate away before we left. Tried to pay on the app as fed up of waiting but could not remove the service charge. Then got told as we'd started to pay on the app we had to pay it all. Argued this point as we were not a paying a 10% tip for such appalling service. Will definitely not return this time!!

Truly lamentable service, even though it wasn’t especially busy. Next time we’re booking for pre-theatre, I’ll book somewhere else. After we’d finished our mains we waited 25 minutes before they cleared away and brought sweet menus. We told the waiter we were going to the theatre so didn’t have much time. He passed our table frequently, and stood chatting at the bar, but very obviously couldn’t be arsed to serve us; we had to wait another 10 minutes before he came back to take our order. By the time he came back we couldn’t risk another long wait, so I asked for the bill. 10 minutes later, I went to the checkout myself. He’d not even bothered to ask for it. When I told him we’d hoped to have a sweet and had run out of time because of his poor service, he just shrugged. No apology. I believe this is the first time I’ve not given a tip.

Shocking service. Drinks forgotten, food not started until chased, waiters tutting when asked where the food is - generally not a very nice place to be with the family

Booked restaurant a week earlier having taken child to see pantomime at nearby Millenium Theatre. We were shown to bench seats near the toilets. They are fixed to the floor and could not be adjusted. We are not fat but it was a squeeze. Food was barely warm and took a long time to arrive. Nobody asked us if we were ok. I had to go to the counter to pay the bill. Nobody came to us even though there was no staff shortage. We wont hurry back.

Awful experience!! We have visited many zizzi restaurants across the UK, and have always been happy with them as far as a chain restaurant such as this goes. But our trip to the Cardiff bay site was awful. Rude staff, poor service, slow (despite not being busy), unprofessional…. Having to go to the bar to ask to be serviced, after being starred at by the huddle of front of house staff, who were visibly stuff food into their mouths stood behind the drinks bar is not what you want to see or experience. Plus not one of them washed their hands after eating said finger food either. Then I can only describe the service as a ‘grunt’. We felt as if customers were in inconvenience. It wasn’t particularly busy and I counted 7 FOH staff at one point, so there really was no excuse for the poor service. Some serious training and professionalism required at the Cardiff site for sure.

We came here for a family meal a little concerned as the most recent reviews weren’t great. The servers were all polite and helpful but at times quite slow as others have said. One of our starters came several minutes after the others, but they took that off the bill. We ended up waiting so long for one of our drinks that had been put on the bar to be brought over, that in the end we went and fetched it ourselves. The food however was delicious, no complaints there at all. Having been to a few other Zizzis where the service was swift , we can only conclude that this particular one lacks staff or management. Which was a shame as the waiters were all friendly, just maybe lacking in motivation and direction. Another table near us were also complaining about a long wait but also seemed to enjoy their food. We would go back, but only if we weren’t in a rush.

This was simply one of the worst meals we have ever experienced. It started off well with the starters as both mine and my wife's were very good, despite it taking 45 minutes to arrive which is not ideal when you have a 2 year old with you. However, things then took a turn for the worse. We ordered another drink each which never arrived, in fact there was no longer anyone working at the bar so the waiting staff we getting the drinks themselves. Although it only seemed to be drinks in cans or bottles. We had order cocktails and no one was making these. When our pizzas arrived, my wife's was so burnt it was black and when we tried them, they were both stone cold. We called the waiter over and explained we wanted to send them back so he took them away. Shortly after, he brought exactly the same pizzas back after they had been warmed up which we said was not acceptable and how long would it be for fresh pizzas, when he said 20 minutes we just had to make do with them as we could not make our 2 year old sit at a table any longer. In addition to this, the side of chips we ordered, did not arrive but eventually came out when we had almost finished our pizzas so we sent them back as we did not want them as a separate course! We have never refused to pay for a meal or part of it but we were not going to pay for at least my wife's pizza or chips. To be fair to the waiter, when the bill came these were not on it. No one came to take the payment so my wife decided to go to the bar to pay where the "manager" was doing something at the till. Unfortunately despite my wife being stood practically next to him, he simply blanked her and did not even acknowledge that she was waiting. In fact, the "manager" seemed completely oblivious to most things going on and was definitely not managing the restaurant while things crumbled around him. In the end we just decided to pay on the app and leave. Seeing the other reviews on here, clearly this was not an isolated incident and I find it amazing that nothing changes, surely Zizzi's head office read all these reviews??? Presumably they are just happy to ignore them. If this had been the first time we had been to a Zizzi, we certainly would not return. We definitely will not be going back to this one.

Having visited previously and had a fab meal, was really disappointed at the cost cutting exercise that we experienced. When the classic pizza is thinner than a walkers crisp and the thinnest toasting of cheese - there is a balance between cost cutting and ripping...

Staff are friendly and food was average but I paid £81 for 2 x three course meals which I thought was excessive. Plus they sort of pressure you into giving a tip by adding a set amount that they want on the receipt and including it in your total so you have to ask for it to be removed so I paid £8 tip on top of an overpriced meal. I won’t go back for these reasons.

Went for a meal with my wife and had a great time. The restaurant itself is lovely and the food and service was excellent. Would certainly recommend.

Visité el sábado por la noche temprano para el té de cumpleaños de mi hijo mientras estábamos en Cardiff. Tuvimos una comida deliciosa, con mucha variedad y muy contentos con el menú infantil. Habíamos reservado con antelación y teníamos mesa durante 90 minutos. Se sentía muy limpio y seguro dentro. Mucho espacio entre las mesas (estábamos en una cabina y la de atrás estaba vacía para adherirse al distanciamiento social) y debido a que el edificio tiene techos muy altos, generalmente se sentía "aireado". La comida llegó muy rápido, lo cual fue genial para nosotros ya que los niños no pueden sentarse por mucho tiempo. La camarera era fabulosa e hizo un escándalo por mi hijo, que era encantador! Y para colmo, pagamos todo excepto nuestras bebidas con cupones Tesco. Hermosa visita, definitivamente volveremos!

Excellent food with swift, friendly and professional service, which adhered strictly to current social distancing guidance. The calzones and the children’s meals were very good. We will be back for sure.

Qué hermosa primera visita tuvimos en Zizzi's. Nuestra camarera Zena es un crédito para esta empresa. Ella fue muy educada, entusiasta y profesional. El joven que sirvió nuestra comida también fue muy educado. Mi esposo derramó accidentalmente una copa de vino tinto y el personal fue muy rápido en ayudar e incluso reemplazó el vino sin costo (lo que ciertamente no esperábamos). Gracias a todos por hacer que nuestra comida sea especial. No cabe duda de que volveremos a este restaurante.

Poor menu choice also had bill raised 3 times due to overcharging. Felt more like a canteen than a restaurant, Severs were pleasant but not suitably dress to wait tables

Fuimos a Zizzi esta noche 3 mujeres. Estaba muy ocupado. Alex nos recibió en la puerta, sentando a los invitados. Era muy amigable y feliz y nada era un problema para él. Explicó la nueva norma. Natalie fue nuestra camarera y también fue increíble. Nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos. La comida era excelente y la factura era muy barata, ya que comer fuera.Alex encontró tiempo para venir a ver cómo estábamos y fue tan encantador. Así que gracias Natalie y Alex, hicieron de nuestra noche un placer.

In testing times, meal and service more than satisfactory. Served very quickly with pleasant staff. Food well cooked and extremely tasty, especially the garlic and caramelised bread which the kids loved. Will be coming back.

It was better than I expected. The meatballs were very good. It was very busy and there was a delay, but overall worthwhile. Good food. Beer is very expensive though.

Dropped in for dinner without reservation and we still got seated quickly. I don't think we waited longer than 5 minutes for our dinner either (pasta and a main course salad) and both dishes were delicious. The salad was surprisingly much as well and although it didn't have too many lentils in it, I was very happy with my choice. We were in a bit of a rush as well but the view was great too, shame we couldn't take it in really.

Fantastic food. Perhaps a little on the end of small portions but that didn’t ruin the experience with a lovely waitress and the delicious food.

Bright and airy, with lots of glass frontage to view the bay, nicely done first floor restaurant. This was a good value meal, not brilliant, but for a chain restaurant certainly good to go back to. You will never get the standard of a bespoke Italian but that's ok for this place. Good service and nice desserts, although they still can't do calamari like the greeks, (nor can Pizza Express either!). Would go again. It's better than average.

My pizza was okay but my wife's pasta seemed to be flavoured with a mushroom cup-a-soup. Thin, watery, rubbish.Everything in the restaurant had a tired feel about it and the deserts were clearly prepacked. Daughters ice cream didn't have the extras on it either. Poor all round.

Wife and youngest went to see Six the musical, afterwards we all met up at Zizzi for dinner. I went for Vegan Jack Fruit pizza... hot and spicy, very tasty, I didn't miss the meat at all!

Three generations of our family had dinner here last night after a matinee to see “The King and I”.We’d reserved our table which was good as potential diners were being turned away.Service was efficient and friendly.All of us enjoyed our choices of food.We’ve been going here for years and my one observation is the generally poor condition of the toilets. There appears to be no regular cleaning of toilets in the evening. Most restaurants in Cardiff are much better in this respect. It’s time to make improvements here!!

Visited as a party of seven. Restaurant was very quiet with maybe a dozen or so diners. Service, food and cleanliness were very good however the venue was a bit cold. An older member of our group was shivering on leaving. Will take a scarf next time...

Attended last night 18.12.19 6.30pm party of 10. Not only was service slow and we had to keep our coats on because it was so cold inside, but despite the restaurant being empty apart from us and another 4 diners, a couple of us returned our food as it was overcooked and the pizza crust was as thin as a pompadom. We had two of our meals refunded and declined a replacement meal as it would hold up the rest of the party. Very disappointing exerience which spoilt our Christmas party. Avoid thankfully I had a kitkat handy in my bag. My colleague's pizza was burnt and returned too.

Lovely staff but what on earth has happened to Zizzi in Mermaid Quay. The restaurant was really cold and when we asked for a radiator to be turned on, it wasn't working. When I complained to the staff that we were cold, they said the heating was on full and there was nothing they could do. They said it was the same for everyone and suggested we stayed away from the door. Our food arrived cold - apart from the kids dough balls that were dangerously hot! Our starters of garlic bread arrived with our main meal. It was just an awful experience and one that totally spoiled our lovely pre Christmas gathering with our children and grandchildren. £115 down the pan - feel totally ripped off.

Booked on a Friday evening at 6pm for pre theatre food (we were seeing les miserables at the millennium centre) and technically as our wedding anniversary meal as that was why we were staying in Cardiff Bay and going to the theatre.

The venue was lovely but unfortunately, the food was ok. Very disappointed when we came to pay the bill and was told there was a limit with Apple Pay. Not high enough for 2 to eat let alone a family of 6.

We visited on a busy December Friday when there were hundreds of office parties filling all the restaurants. The Zizzi staff managed to squeeze us in, thank you.

We do normally like Zizzi we’ve been many times to other locations and never had a bad meal, the meal we had in the bay was average which was surprising as due to its location surrounded by some very good Italian restaurants the waitresses was excellent very friendly and helpful however the kitchen staff seemed to be laughing and joking with each other which I wouldn’t minded this if the food was good but it was bland... however the red velvet brownie was very good

We arrived without booking at a busy time. There were no tables (can’t grumble) and were told to go for a walk and come back in 20 minutes when a table would be available. We did so, to be told by an unapologetic member of staff that tables had come free but had been reserved in the last 10 minutes on the phone and a ‘phone booking beat our “come back in 20 minutes”. We all make mistakes but an apology would have been nice.

stopped for a pre-show meal. great service and nice food. only problem was the seating was so uncomfortable, did move tables to one with strange "sette" type seats but still not good. they seem to have gone for style over reality

We each had a great dining experience at Zizzi, Mermaid Quay, last night. We took our grandaughter there to celebrate her starting at Cardiff University. We each had different meals, which were delicious and very well presented. The service provided was excellent! We shall be returning next time we come up to visit.Thank you!

We came here as you can use your Tesco Clubcard vouchers to pay for your meal (which is great) and as we were going to a show in the Millenium centre which is just a short walk away. The location is fab, being down the bay in lovely surroundings and also with a nice view if you sit near the windows or in the outside area. The menu has a lot of choice and all food that we ordered tasted fab. However I ordered the carbonara which was supposed to be served with chorizo and there was little evidence of chorizo in the dish, but regardless it tasted amazing. Another must try is the skewer of chicken and veg served with potatoes, which tasted extremely good too! The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a nice atmosphere, staff were good too but food service could have been a bit quicker. The Aperol spritz was fab. Overall we enjoyed our visit, the food was great and we would come again for sure. Also a bonus that you can use your clubcard tokens here!

Visited here at the weekend with my wife for our anniversary. The restaurant is right on the quayside within short walk of Millennium Centre and we chose an outside table because it was such a nice evening.

Being Italian, I can guarantee this is not Italian food at all. So if you're thinking about Zizzi, I'd avoid it completely and head to Carluccio's instead, which is a much more authentic Italian food experience.

We decided to eat Italian when we were in Cardiff, and plonked for Zizzi.

We decided to book this restaurant as we have dined at other Zizzi restaurants. This experience was terrible. The staff were generally quite rude from the start. We ordered a starter each and a main course, but were told no greens were available and we would have to have side salad. The starters arrived, and the Calamari was cold and rubbery, and the bruschetta was just 2 pieces of bread with tomatoes and a bit of cheese thrown over. Having waited 40 minutes for our main courses to arrive, they were then sent back, they were both not even luke warm, and I wasn't prepared to eat it as it was chicken. The waitress touched the soggy potatoes and even she agreed the meal was bad. She asked if we wanted another meal, but we refused and promptly left, very disappointed. Needless to say, Zizzi's is now off my eating out list.

Booked a table for three for myself and two teenage kids - service fine and all staff polite, everythning clean etc.

Spur of the moment visit as we were going to Millenium Centre to see the Gaia exhibit. On arrival we were warned by the waitress (I think her name was Zena according to receipt) that due to staff shortage it would be a 20 minute wait for food. We weren’t in a hurry so this wasn’t a problem. She kept us updated on how much longer we had to wait then gave excellent service following. If all restaurants had a ‘Zena’ there wouldn’t be any complaints!! She needs an Employer of the month award! Thank you

To say the meal in Zizzis in mermaid quay was poor today was an understatement. We booked a table weeks ago but then received a call to inform us they had a delivery issue meaning they were low on pizzas. We asked if they could hold some back for our booking as we knew what we wanted, to be told no, and to ask when we arrive if there is anything left.

This was our first visit since the refurbishment. First impression was it looks a lot more inviting. It was a Thursday lunchtime at the height of the school holidays and it was busy. We were told there would be a wait of about 30 minutes but decided to stay. The three waitresses were rushed off their feet and the 30 minutes became 60. There were 2 chefs working their socks off and it became obvious the restaurant was under staffed in all areas. This was at the height of the school holidays for goodness sakes! What made the long wait even worse was the disgraceful standard of the food served to me. It was an oven cooked pasta dish which was completely dried up. It should never have been brought to the table. We have eaten in many Zizzis around the country but this is the worst experience we have had.

Came for a family meal and we were a bit surprised that this restaurant was so quiet when the others were full to bursting. Menu was fine, but some items were not available. Our main course took a while to arrive and our puddings took an eternity with a frustrating waste of time when we had hoped to explore the bay area before our car parking time was up. Quite pricey, food quality was fine and the portion sizes decent enough.

Gluten free menu not as described. Unwashed salad leaves with remains of soil left on! Very poor customer service from waitress. Would put me off from visiting this chain again.

There seems to be quite varied reviews of this place, but I thought the food was good and the staff were friendly.

Visited here on Saturday evening to celebrate my husbands birthday. When booking I had asked for an outside table as we were having beautiful weather and was told this wouldnt be a problem. I also asked if there was anything special they could do as it was a birthday celebration but was told "' we could stick a candle in a dessert if you order one"! On arrival we were led to an inside table and when i explained that we had booked an outside one was told that this was not available. We asked for a jug of iced water which was served with HOT glasses!

Thankfully no longer a complete dive, some money has been spent on the restaurant making it a far more enjoyable experience.

I've given this a go a few times and every time it is terrible. Unfortunately I keep forgetting and giving it another go! The serviced is rushed and not friendly. Food is mass produced and low quality.

We visit here several times a year and the food is good. The friendly staff are always helpful although I thought on this visit there weren’t enough staff in duty.

Lovely meal with my girlfriend, friendly staff and amazing views of Cardiff bay. Nice variety menu of mainly pizza and pasta

Fancied a pizza and this place really delivered. Was great to watch pizzas being made fresh to order. Friendly service will visit again.

Give this place a wide berth. Average at best. Starter was dreadful. Bread was stale & burnt. Main course tasted like a ready meal. Overpriced rubbish
