ZiZi's in Colchester

A strange experience. When we arrived, we didn’t get shown to a table and were told to just sit anywhere. The waiter didn’t seem interested in taking anyone’s order and we had to get his attention numerous times to be served. There also seemed to be some staff meeting going on in the middle of the restaurant which made us feel like we weren’t supposed to be there. The food came quick enough once ordered but was cold unfortunately.

We had a delicious pizza and piqquante calzone which wee absolutely amazing. We then had a lovely tiramisu each to finish. Great hospitality from the staff and nothing was too.much trouble for them.

Have been going to Zizzi for several years and have to say the last time I went about a year ago I was not that impressed. However gave it a go again this week and much better. The service was great, especially our waitress, did not catch her name but young with blond hair. The food was very good and decent value. Will go back.

I generally tend to steer clear of these kind of chain restaurants but was out voted and ended up visiting with family. What I experienced was absolutely spot on to what I was expecting. The staff were pleasant enough but I could tell that the site has weak management as many of these places do. All the usual elements of the service cycle were missing. We were sat for a good 10 mins before anyone offered us a drink. The food came quickly enough but there was a dish missing which my partner had to wait for whilst everyone else started eating. There was no check back on any of our 3 courses. The cutlery was used and cleared after the starters, not re laid; subsequently our food arrived and we had no cutlery to eat it with. This took a few mins to be resolved. The deserts also arrived before the cutlery. I asked for another pot of garlic sauce, that never came. No one offered us drinks at all beyond the first round we ordered. Had they of done so then id of likely said yes and spent more money. We handed a birthday cake to the waitress on arrival and asked for it to be bought out at the end, we forgot and the waitress forgot. She did our payments, said her goodbyes and then bought the cake out still in its box. This was as much our fault as it was hers but there was certainly an opportunity there for her to be more attentive and go the extra mile. That situation would’ve played out differently in other places where the staff are dialled in and the shift is being managed properly. The food wasn’t bad at all and the restaurant was immaculate throughout and is clearly well looked after. Over all disappointing, just such basic stuff from the customer journey missing. I’ve seen it time and time again and this was not the worst experience I’ve ever had but I certainly wouldn’t go back. You’re in a saturated market and service/detail is everything.

Wonderful place in the centre of Colchester where you can savour a good pizza home Made together with good company !! I recommend !!:)

Went for a birthday meal. Amongst us we ordered tap water, a Peroni, the vegan meatless meatballs, Bruschetta, mushroom risotto, lentil ragu, truffle mushroom and salami pizza, chocolate brownie sundae, a selection of gelato and an English breakfast tea. I would recommend highly. The food was delicious, and the staff were friendly, funny and welcoming. Can get 30% off student discount. Will be going back pronto!!!

I’ ll be honest i wasnt expecting much due to the restaurant being a chain but i have to say we will def be returning !! We were welcomed into the restaurant , staff were really friendly and efficient . The food we chose was delivered quickly, very hot and extremely tasty ! This place is amazing. Food was perfect and the customer service from Lucas and Naomi is second to none! The atmosphere is perfect and it’s such good value for money!

Visited with family and enjoyed a great meal with excellent service from Megan. Thank you Megan for recommending the prawns starter with the spicy seafood sauce, they were were amazing! I have a gluten intolerance and they catered for this well with a QR code link to an allergens menu. My GF pizza was one of the best I've had and my wife and children loved their pasta and pizzas too. We will definitely be returning soon.

Wow what a wonder evening we had tonight. The staff made our experience so much better they were attentive, happy and mad us feel so welcome(where a lot of places don’t nowadays). The food was lovely, and all in all we had a super time. GREAT 👍

We had booked for a table of eight with two young children for my Sons Birthday, the table we had was ideal as upstairs and a bit quieter than downstairs. The service was really good and we generally enjoyed the evening. Just one of the dishes the meatballs with pasta was not good at all, allot of pasta but just a few fragments of meat balls, the whole dish lacked flavour and my wife did not enjoy it at all. Prices are high, getting towards the price of fine dining for an establishment that is average but a reasonably good average.

Not a good experience, will not go back. We were sat at a table by the bar and kitchen - where the servers congregate and kept bumping my chair or shouting to each other over our table. Most of the food was very good and the waiter was lovely, but they ran out of mozzarella, we had to ask for cutlery and the coffee machine was broken. Probably a bad night for them but there are better Italians in Colchester.

Good fresh food, friendly and helpful service. Went for the shared starter, all we needed was the desert after that. Really very good.

As most of this complaint of a poor experience unfortunately was not completely the restaurant problem I booked for my granddaughter and unfortunately we were sat with a birthday party which was loud and guest were throwing things and running around for the whole of the time as this was for a nice surprise for her and four of her friends for a birthday treat it was completely spoilt Also the quality of the food was poor and all that was offered on the set menu was not available and had to pay for items to make up the meal. No deserts no drinks available the sharing platter was also poor the cheese balls overcooked the chopped cherry tomatoes with a splash of balsamic vinaigrette on still very chilled bread was not edible unfortunately it was a spoiled experience

Went to Zizzi for some pizza. This is always a challenge because my family has so many different allergies. Staff was very helpfull and understanding. Pizza was nice. Restaurant a bit noisy. Would come back.

I had no problem booking a table for 5 with a day's notice. For a Friday night in December perhaps the alarm bells should of rung! The waitress was polite and helpful and the atmosphere of the restaurant was ok. The reason for a low mark is the stone cold ravioli served on a cold bowl (which was taken back to the kitchen and clearly microwaved, as the tomatoes were rock hard in the middle when returned) The margarita pizza that was burnt underneath. The Gluten free pizza base that was not cooked enough in the centre (got cold quickly) and the small portion size of the hot salmon risotto. The 1 starter that was had, was garlic bread with onion. That was nice apparently. I was handed a folder to find GF/dietary options by a tick chart. This restaurant has recently been refurbished and looks nice. But disappointed with the food.

Booked a table online and received email confirmation. Arrived and waited at the entrance desk and basically no one came over. Eventually a lady did and seemed quite put out and questioned the booking so showed her the email. She took us to a table upstairs tucked away in the corner which wasn’t set up or clean. They forgot one dish which turned up 25 mins after everyone else’s in fact they gave it to a table that arrived after us and obviously who they were expecting. Not the best food either. Won’t bother visiting again. No people skills

We walked in to Zizzi to get lunch on a rainy Sunday, as everywhere else in town was so busy. We were glad they let us sit upstairs as they were busy. The staff were efficient taking our order and getting drinks but when the starter came the pizza dough was raw in the middle. At first I thought it was might be the 'melting mozzarella and garlic' but it was just lots of raw dough! I sent it back and received another one which was cooked but had very little mozzarella or garlic flavour. The pasta main was supposed to have crispy cheese and sage on the top but there wasn't any. There was no sslt or black pepper on any of the tables either. They had run out of a coiple of deserts and the coffee machine was not working. The free wifi didnt work either and the 4g signal for our phones was dropping in and out. it wasn't a great visit but at lwast we got out of the pouring rain!

Popped into Zizi at Colchester on a Sunday afternoon and I have nothing but good things to say… our server Izzy was outstanding and a huge credit to her! Starters was hot and tasty, mains were delicious and we will be back.

Our starters came before our drinks, a young male waiter literally dropped our food on the table for us, the side salad was a bowl of dried leaves which we returned... Rather disappointing. I haven't eaten there for years and won't be returning.
