Doesn’t take long to get seated and food gets to your table quicker than expected! The food is exquisite and the staff are very lovely. Would be even better if they done skinny chips/fries! I would definitely recommend going there and is a lovely place for a food night out! Grazie mille :)

Very disappointed that we could not make use of the August Perk because it was not food or drink related. I think the bag as an option is very disappointing. I always get the brownie with cherry and clotted cream ice cream and when it first came out on the menu, it was delicious. It was served in black ovenproof dish with sauce etc and. It filled the whole dish but ever since then the dessert seems to be getting smaller and smaller. Last night it was tiny, had no sauce and was serviced in a bowl shaped plate that would normally serve pasta in. I definitely won’t be ordering this ever again as I feel cheated and let down of the disappointed when I had really looked forward to having it. Giving that your prices are going up and up, it seems like your portion sizes are decreasing. The fact we are in a cost of living crisis, this will discourage people eating out because they are not getting their moneys worth.

We booked ASK for our wedding anniversary meal, a special treat as we really don't go out as a couple. We arrived for our booking and were seated, and then the waitress disappeared off. We sat for over 20mins before she came back for a drink order. By then we were obviously ready to order everything. We ordered the food and drink. 10mins after that the drinks arrived and then a short while after that the food. But the reality is that we it took over half an hour from walking in to get a drink. The food was nice, which was lucky really as we didn't see the waitress again until much later. She eventually reappeared when she must have decided it was time to clear plates. She asked if we wanted desserts, and although we did there wasn't time as we had a cinema booking. We'd arrived for a 6pm booking and it was now 7.35pm and we were only having mains cleared. We asked for the bill, she disappeared off again, 15mins pass. She eventually came back outside where we were seated and my partner again asked if we could have the bill to which we were told she'd forgotten about that. When she did bring that over we paid cash and then really had to hurry out. What should have been a nice relaxing meal out, which we had intended to have a few courses and drinks turned into one drink, one course and painfully slow and disjointed service.

Went here for a large birthday meal. The staff were so lovely and helpful. The food came out very efficiently and tasted lovely. Thank you to the staff for being so attentive to our table and also juggling all the others!

We visited this restaurant on Wednesday 31st July 2024 about 6:45pm as we had visited before fir lunch and really enjoyed the experience. This time was a different matter however. We were turned away at the door by the waitress, as well as other groups. She claimed the wait for food was huge and they had to turn non booked customers away to let them catch up. She appeared to he very stressed and about to burst into tears, poor thing. Out of interest we went outside to book a table which was successful, but this made no difference and the waitress said the booking system was broken. Tbh it was chaotic and we shan't return.

Went out for my anniversary and the service and food was wonderful. Our waitress Katie was very kind, lovely and helpful. She deserves recognition for such a lovely service. 10/10 :)

Food, Service and Atmosphere was brilliant. I was in a nice, cosy peaceful corner. It was quiet and service was quick and efficient. Definitely would go again.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was nothing short of lovely, buzzing with a positive energy. The staff, attentive and personable, contributed to the friendly and welcoming environment that made us feel right at home. It was Katie, with her friendly demeanor and insightful menu suggestions, who set the tone for what was to be an exceptional evening.

Great meal, food was really good and the service was outstanding. The manager I believe called Scott did a follow up on our meal. 5🌟

Met friends here, get free shot of house lemonade which is always refreshing. Our server was really lovely and relatable, had a joke with us and made us feel at ease. It was quiet and so we had a whole section to ourself which was nice. Had the sausage linguine. Was nice but not sure if I would have again, it was a bit spicy for my liking and the sausages were a little bitty, but subjective for each diner. Their pizzas are good value for money as they are large and with lots of toppings. Lots of choice across the entire menu. 20% student discount. Would recommend and will be going back.

Lovely hot, tasty dishes were served by a tentitive service, delivered at a good tempo, and it didn't feel rushed even though it was a Saturday evening.

Walked out after 5 of being ignored at front and 15 mins once seated. There were only 6 other tables! All looking fed up! Empty plates and glasses. Plenty of staff for the number of guests. Went to a really nice independent Turkish restaurant next door who couldn't have done more for us.

Absolutely disgusted by the treatment I faced today in @ASKItalian Colchester by I believe was the chef who refused to give me his name but he was large and had no hair! He didn’t want to serve me a gluten free pizza without a sausage! He was extremely rude it was embarrassing.

Brilliant service, our waitress was very friendly and quick. The food was good but some dishes better than others, the olives were nice but the cheese fondue wasn't the best I've had as the cheese wasn't very strong flavoured. The pizza crust was great and the toppings generous. Overall lovely experience and reasonable prices.

A really good example of this chain, they have a really lovely space available this table at the front of the restaurant and a back room which is really nicely styled and a generous size garden area. Lovely to be able to eat out in the Sun. Would recommend the garlic chicken pizza, the good choice of wines and beers, very pleasant, staff, attentive and quick service

Great food (we had a variety of different pasta courses and some pizzas) and we were very satisfied! I had the festive carbonara and I was surprised by the type of pasta they used-it was probably handmade and its shape was unusual! Everything we ordered came out very warm-although we were 10 people there. The service was fast and all the employees and the managers were very friendly! I totally recommend this place and we will totally revisit Ask Italian, when we will be near the area.

What can I say but excellent.. I booked two tables one for my daughter and her friends as it was her birthday and another table at the back of the restaurant. They were busy but the service was fantastic, food was amazing and desserts what a choice.. well done all who worked on that evening and a special thank to our waitress who served us. Ordered the lasagne and a carbonara, and it was awful. There was no sauce on either of the dishes. We basically got a load of plain pasta with a hint of what the flavour should've been like. Tesco ready meals would've been way better.

I booked here tonight as I usually go to the Ask Italian restaurant in Ipswich which the food is incredible! So I booked Colchester with my partner to have the same experience as a late valentines meal however the food was in our words totally disappointing? The calamari starter was tasteless, the sea bass had no flavour and the Linguini carbonara was just a plate of pasta again with no taste. The waitress was lovely and it was very disappointing to make her aware of our thoughts? We got a refund for our food but this wasn't what we were seeking, it was just about making the waitress aware of how dissatisfied we were. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this restaurant in Colchester, we will stick to the restaurant in Ipswich which is quite far higher standard of food.

Thank you for a great lunch. The food was excellent & the staff very attentive. They turned off the music in our area so those of our group with hearing aids could enjoy the conversation. Really glad we chose you for our celebration lunch.

Unfortunately the food was not good at all and definitely not worth the money, I presume the staff know this as at no stage were we asked if everything was ok or how was our meal. Butterfly prawns were over cooked and like rubber, presented in a red hot iron skillet, yet you have to peel the prawns yourself, and your not given a wipe or finger bowl, Caprese salad, Buffalo mozzarella x plonked in a dish with 50p Tesco salad tomatoes and salad leaves that were black and old… no dressing of any sort, and completely tasteless. Pasta dishes had been left under hot lights so pasta had gone solid and burnt, all the food we had was over cooked and tasteless. The whole experience was very disappointing and very expensive. I did complain whilst there but no one was interested and when I asked for the bill, I was given the whole bill without a word.

Such a shame, we come to ask Italian’s quite often, so much so we get multiple of our fave starters instead of a starter and main. Came last night and our mushrooms in our starters (me and my partner order one each) was raw. We still ate it in all honestly, as we weren’t asked whilst eating if everything was ok, and let the sever know on collecting the plates but she didn’t seem that interested in any feedback. We will come back again, but probably not in a hurry

We enjoyed a lovely 3 course meal (mushrooms al forno starter, Prawn Risotto, Butternut Squash, Goats Cheese Verdure Bowl and coffee and mini Tiramisu) friendly and helpful staff.

We cashed in some tesco vouchers to use as a pre theatre treat. Our first visit to this place and Colchester in donkeys years. We were warmly welcomed and served quickly. The food was very hot and very tasty. The dessert salted caramel is a wonderful italien dish which was divine. Would def recommend.

At this particular location you seem to be abused for having a starter as they are short staffed as always!! To me a cheap excuse!!! They apparently on their website have no feedback page!! No wonder?! A staff member said that is complaining is “ attitude” again we have a human to give feedback and freedom of speech. We waited 1hr and 30 minutes for a meal Which is outrageous for a chain restaurant. I am appalled by the service I had today

First, the prices are excessive. This should be a affordable experience for a family, and the prices are simply too high. Second, the service was very polite but extremely slow. I waited an hour to receive my food, by which time I was feeling faint. This could be a good restaurant, but it has to be affordable and the waiting time is just too long .

Was not impressed by the fact staff allowed a homeless guy to go round the restaurant shaking his cup at people having a meal. He hasseled us shortly after we sat down and then wandered off towards the kitchen before emerging with a pizza. I do not expect to have a bigger over my shoulder while in a restaurant!

You can not complain it is good but I do prefer prezzo though.

The staff here and the lovely décor really make the visit a lot nicer than most other Italian restaurant chains. The staff are friendly and helpful and considerate. The food is good, the pizza has a nice crispy base and the Verdura is my favourite.

First time using Ask as a Takeaway. We aren't easy to cater for (gluten/peanut/dairy allergies for two of us) so the fact that they were happy to take orders gives the 2 stars. However, the pizza ordered was cold!! The toppings were just not cooked at all. No browning of any kind and the items were collected within the 15 mins that we were told it would take. Really not at all nice and barely eaten because if it. The two pasta dishes were fine, but the portion size was tiny for the £15+ each charged. Off to a supermarket to buy something else for hungry son and husband to eat. All in all, over £45 for 2 pasta dishes and one pizza, this rates as the most disappointing takeaway experience we have ever had.

Order of food short ! Rang restaurant many times ,no answer . Ordered chips and only received what I call child size portion! Terrible service will not use again .Nor will.i recommend

We ordered pizza and chips and I was not happy with the quality to say the least. It was miniature and cold. These are things I do not want to receive when I have payed near enough twenty pounds. We have eaten in the restaurant before and it was perfect but when you order as a takeaway it is dreadful. Not happy please do better!!!!

Food was average. Didn’t receive the complimentary drink on arrival, however other guests sat next to our table did. Main meals came out a separate times so I cancelled 2 meals. To be fair the manager was great and apologised, along with discounting our bill. Unfortunately I won’t be dining there again.

Visited Ask Italian in Colchester tonight . We haven’t eaten out in a long time so was really looking forward to trying it. Wish we had just stayed home. I know we aren’t talking about high end dining here but I expect certain things. The starters were ok. Garlic bread pretty tasteless as were the garlic prawns. Antipasti was better. Once our starters were cleared away we were left for a long time. When our food finally arrived it was all cold. My daughter and husband couldn’t be bothered to send their pizzas back but my pasta dish was very unappetising cold so I asked for it to be heated. When they brought it back it was still cold. I was embarrassed to send it back again so I just left it . The pizzas were left too. We ordered dessert which took an absolute age to come. By which time we’d all had enough and just wanted to leave. So all in all an abysmal experience one we won’t be repeating again.

Simple mistakes make a good night a poor review. Table booked for 2, nice friendly welcome restaurant clean and not too cramped. Sat down and after a few minutes a smell of sewage or something, the seating was near the front window and next to the steps, Dont Sit here as everyone time someone walks passed the floor moves, not good if your hyper sensitive to these sort of thing. The waiter noticed we looked uncomfortable and moved use to a larger table. Jack the waiter was attentive easy to talk with and made up for the poor stuff. Ordered Manzo and it was perfect maybe not punchy enough for some but a little chilli oil and wow. Insalata de pollo salad missing the chicken, Jack apologised and returned with a small portion on pan fried chicken an put onto the salad. 4 or 5 dishes on the menu not being served. 1 hot wine glass and 1 cold glass. Smelly seating that you know about. Come on "Ask Italian" sort it out. Almost kicked off at Jack and about to ask for a manager when my partner said just leave it. Oh and no offer of a discount or a little something extra to sweeten the mistake. Any other night this may have been enough for a 1 star review and eating at piccolo or bella pa, or any of the other Italian restaurants in town. Positives, peroni resiver was a new beer for me and it's a perfect drink with Italian food, Jack and his not to formal and not to cheeky waiting. Atmosphere is just right, clean and well presented restaurant. Have been here before and its was exceptional and will return again.

Myself and 3 friends visited ASK on Wednesday 18th January, one of my friends had booked a table-we were shown to a table were given t free shot of pink lemonade-then menus; drinks arrived promptly2 of us had the Perks offer on the dough balls, they were delicious-3 had pizza 1 had pasta-as usual food was very good as was the service by a young man named Billy-very attentive, nothing was too much trouble-gave us more time while ordering desserts-a friendly waiter who knew what the food was when we asked about the new dough balls.

We were served by the fabulous Katie and the front of house manager. They were attentive, friendly and funny!! They couldn’t have done more to make my friend’s birthday a fantastic experience!! The food was fresh, full of flavour and beautifully presented. I will definitely visit again!!

Quite slow service. Waitress forgot some things, my 7 year olds food came out last and it was wrong. We weren't allowed to sit outside but saw some couples out there. Just not as good as we expected, which was a shame.
