Ask Italian in Colchester

I love Ask, love the pizzas and the gf gnocchi, but unfortunately, they have taken the gnocchi off the menu over winter. This is a mistake as its the best takeout they do. The pasta dishes were very disappointing, and this is the reason I've only given 3 stars for the food. The pizzas, though, are always great. Perhaps if they bring back the gnocchi, I'll revisit and give 5 stars again.

Risotto was exquisite and Dean was a wonderfu host. He also asked me if i had any allergy (eventhough I dont , its great that he does ask that ) I recommend ask italian for both food and customer service. I had an amazing night

The price of the food compared to the taste is a huge difference. It is expensive andast two times I visited has been tasteless and I could have made something better. Shame as not cheap. Staff really friendly and professional.

Great food however for the price I wish the portion sizes were bigger! Staff and service was great!

Very cold draft for tables near the entrance when customers entered the premises as the outer door was left open so extremely cold outside blows in. A little too much pasta filling the dinner bowl to lovely cooked meat etc. Would have stayed for more but too uncomfortable atmosphere. If only entrance layout had been thought through and dishes pasta proportioned.

Took my annoying little sister out for a meal in Colchester and we decided on Italian. Luckily we did because the food was delicious and the service was amazing. Bruna really looked after us and made sure we had everything we needed!

Great food (we had a variety of different pasta courses and some pizzas) and we were very satisfied! I had the festive carbonara and I was surprised by the type of pasta they used-it was probably handmade and its shape was unusual! Everything we ordered came out very warm-although we were 10 people there. The service was fast and all the employees and the managers were very friendly! I totally recommend this place and we will totally revisit Ask Italian, when we will be near the area.

Courtney our waitress was very pleasant. The pizza was quite cold when it arrived.

Shocking service! Staff had little idea of what constitutes good customer service and from start to finish, it was a disaster. I am a regular but might as well have been an alien from Mars! Customers all seated as far away as possible from the main service area, staff chatting rather than serving and numerous mistakes in the ordering and serving. Management deplorable and unapologetic. Not a great advertisement for the brand!

Unfortunately I can’t remember the persons name who served us, but he was very helpful especially as we were requesting a slightly different dish to that on the menu. Very good

Outstanding service, attentive, friendly staff and the food is excellent, however portion sizes have become smaller whilst the prices have increased.

From the moment we spoke George and Scott about our booking the communication was 1st class. They answered all our questions quickly and listened to all our concerns regarding food allergies. Is was the perfect place for our meal with 20 guests after our wedding in the town hall. Thank you to everyone at Colchester Ask for helping to make our day so special.

Great service, Amazing food, loved the entire ambiance and experience

Very crowded. Sat at a table where everyone kept pushing past us. Felt like we were sat on top of everyone else. Couldn’t hear my partner even though he was sat centimetres away from me. Food took a long time and the portions seem to be getting a lot smaller.

Doesn’t take long to get seated and food gets to your table quicker than expected! The food is exquisite and the staff are very lovely. Would be even better if they done skinny chips/fries! I would definitely recommend going there and is a lovely place for a food night out! Grazie mille :)

Very disappointed that we could not make use of the August Perk because it was not food or drink related. I think the bag as an option is very disappointing. I always get the brownie with cherry and clotted cream ice cream and when it first came out on the menu, it was delicious. It was served in black ovenproof dish with sauce etc and. It filled the whole dish but ever since then the dessert seems to be getting smaller and smaller. Last night it was tiny, had no sauce and was serviced in a bowl shaped plate that would normally serve pasta in. I definitely won’t be ordering this ever again as I feel cheated and let down of the disappointed when I had really looked forward to having it. Giving that your prices are going up and up, it seems like your portion sizes are decreasing. The fact we are in a cost of living crisis, this will discourage people eating out because they are not getting their moneys worth.

We booked ASK for our wedding anniversary meal, a special treat as we really don't go out as a couple. We arrived for our booking and were seated, and then the waitress disappeared off. We sat for over 20mins before she came back for a drink order. By then we were obviously ready to order everything. We ordered the food and drink. 10mins after that the drinks arrived and then a short while after that the food. But the reality is that we it took over half an hour from walking in to get a drink. The food was nice, which was lucky really as we didn't see the waitress again until much later. She eventually reappeared when she must have decided it was time to clear plates. She asked if we wanted desserts, and although we did there wasn't time as we had a cinema booking. We'd arrived for a 6pm booking and it was now 7.35pm and we were only having mains cleared. We asked for the bill, she disappeared off again, 15mins pass. She eventually came back outside where we were seated and my partner again asked if we could have the bill to which we were told she'd forgotten about that. When she did bring that over we paid cash and then really had to hurry out. What should have been a nice relaxing meal out, which we had intended to have a few courses and drinks turned into one drink, one course and painfully slow and disjointed service.

Went here for a large birthday meal. The staff were so lovely and helpful. The food came out very efficiently and tasted lovely. Thank you to the staff for being so attentive to our table and also juggling all the others!

We visited this restaurant on Wednesday 31st July 2024 about 6:45pm as we had visited before fir lunch and really enjoyed the experience. This time was a different matter however. We were turned away at the door by the waitress, as well as other groups. She claimed the wait for food was huge and they had to turn non booked customers away to let them catch up. She appeared to he very stressed and about to burst into tears, poor thing. Out of interest we went outside to book a table which was successful, but this made no difference and the waitress said the booking system was broken. Tbh it was chaotic and we shan't return.

Went out for my anniversary and the service and food was wonderful. Our waitress Katie was very kind, lovely and helpful. She deserves recognition for such a lovely service. 10/10 :)

Food, Service and Atmosphere was brilliant. I was in a nice, cosy peaceful corner. It was quiet and service was quick and efficient. Definitely would go again.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was nothing short of lovely, buzzing with a positive energy. The staff, attentive and personable, contributed to the friendly and welcoming environment that made us feel right at home. It was Katie, with her friendly demeanor and insightful menu suggestions, who set the tone for what was to be an exceptional evening.

Great meal, food was really good and the service was outstanding. The manager I believe called Scott did a follow up on our meal. 5🌟

Met friends here, get free shot of house lemonade which is always refreshing. Our server was really lovely and relatable, had a joke with us and made us feel at ease. It was quiet and so we had a whole section to ourself which was nice. Had the sausage linguine. Was nice but not sure if I would have again, it was a bit spicy for my liking and the sausages were a little bitty, but subjective for each diner. Their pizzas are good value for money as they are large and with lots of toppings. Lots of choice across the entire menu. 20% student discount. Would recommend and will be going back.

Lovely hot, tasty dishes were served by a tentitive service, delivered at a good tempo, and it didn't feel rushed even though it was a Saturday evening.

Walked out after 5 of being ignored at front and 15 mins once seated. There were only 6 other tables! All looking fed up! Empty plates and glasses. Plenty of staff for the number of guests. Went to a really nice independent Turkish restaurant next door who couldn't have done more for us.

Absolutely disgusted by the treatment I faced today in @ASKItalian Colchester by I believe was the chef who refused to give me his name but he was large and had no hair! He didn’t want to serve me a gluten free pizza without a sausage! He was extremely rude it was embarrassing.

Brilliant service, our waitress was very friendly and quick. The food was good but some dishes better than others, the olives were nice but the cheese fondue wasn't the best I've had as the cheese wasn't very strong flavoured. The pizza crust was great and the toppings generous. Overall lovely experience and reasonable prices.

The food was good, the side salad with mustard dressing particularly impressive. The service was great. The place was quiet.

A really good example of this chain, they have a really lovely space available this table at the front of the restaurant and a back room which is really nicely styled and a generous size garden area. Lovely to be able to eat out in the Sun. Would recommend the garlic chicken pizza, the good choice of wines and beers, very pleasant, staff, attentive and quick service

What can I say but excellent.. I booked two tables one for my daughter and her friends as it was her birthday and another table at the back of the restaurant. They were busy but the service was fantastic, food was amazing and desserts what a choice.. well done all who worked on that evening and a special thank to our waitress who served us. Ordered the lasagne and a carbonara, and it was awful. There was no sauce on either of the dishes. We basically got a load of plain pasta with a hint of what the flavour should've been like. Tesco ready meals would've been way better.

I booked here tonight as I usually go to the Ask Italian restaurant in Ipswich which the food is incredible! So I booked Colchester with my partner to have the same experience as a late valentines meal however the food was in our words totally disappointing? The calamari starter was tasteless, the sea bass had no flavour and the Linguini carbonara was just a plate of pasta again with no taste. The waitress was lovely and it was very disappointing to make her aware of our thoughts? We got a refund for our food but this wasn't what we were seeking, it was just about making the waitress aware of how dissatisfied we were. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this restaurant in Colchester, we will stick to the restaurant in Ipswich which is quite far higher standard of food.

Thank you for a great lunch. The food was excellent & the staff very attentive. They turned off the music in our area so those of our group with hearing aids could enjoy the conversation. Really glad we chose you for our celebration lunch.
