Fantastic food and lovely service! We had a great meal at Cuckoo Dough. The Everyone’s Favourite pizza with harissa lamb was absolutely packed with flavour, and the Wild Forest one was delicious too, even better the next day reheated! The calamari was perfectly crisp, and the seafood pasta was full of flavour. The tiramisu was homemade and so light and creamy, definitely worth saving room for. We also loved the bear-shaped kids’ pizza. Such a fun touch, and our little one was thrilled. Friendly, attentive service and a really cosy atmosphere. We’ll be back for sure!

Wanted somewhere to eat that wasn’t fast food or a major chain, we found cuckoo dough whilst walking into town from car park and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of pizza and pasta that we ordered. Would definitely recommend and return!

Yes, this is defintely the best pizza in Colchester, Essex... you name it! Just come and try it. One of those you cannot leave the crust borders! Satff is very welcoming and friendly. Aleays a pleasure to eat here :)

I came in here with my son (3) and my husband. Can’t believe I have never been here before- food was lovely- we all had pizza and it is authentic Italian so tasty! My son had the teddy bear pizza it is big for a child portion so could easily share. Service was great the people are very friendly. Good music and cocktails looked great too. We will be coming back!

Service is fast but unfortunately the biggest let down is the unfriendly staff that truly act like they don’t want to be at work. A smile and welcoming service would be better. We also spent the evening swatting flies off of our food with is not great. Suggest you invest in some citrus candles or something.

Pizza was fantastic but the customer service was dire! Staff members just hanging around the till area while customers are either waiting to order or pay their bill.they honestly couldn't care. We arrived before 5 so the place was empty...would not want to be there when it's busy. Could be a really great place but the staff let it down with lack of customer service from the very start of arrival. However management or lack of presence has a lot to do with this experience. Unfortunately I'll be going elsewhere with family/friends

Cuckoo dough is definitely my favourite restaurant in Colchester, never had a bad meal here. I always order Mario’s Favourite and I just looove it. Highly recommend trying here if you haven’t already been.

Went for a brunch with my friends for her birthday. The restaurant was nice good music was playing. But disappointed as it was a “bottomless brunch” and we got our first drink 20 minutes into being there. The drinks were awfully strong could not enjoy them. We then ordered food and another round of drinks the next lot of drinks were also way too strong. I told the lady our waitress Sophie that it was too strong she said there was nothing she could do about it so I asked the nice girl who was bringing the drinks over to get me a new drink as it was impossible to drink. Food then came over wasn’t nice at all didn’t eat much of it. Overall we had 4 cocktails each in our bottomless brunch. Not happy at all. I then asked for the bill they added a £17 service charge I got that taken off as service was shocking and it wasn’t busy at all in there. Overall I complained about the food and drinks at the end to our server and said there was nothing she could do about it I asked to speak to the manager or a supervisor she told us they had gone home there was no one to speak to. I was not paying full price she then did a 10% off the bill as that’s all she could do apparently. Not happy won’t be returning again. All night I felt very sick and unwell after that.

Went there a few days ago and boy was it nice! My friend and I did not know we needed to book but the staff (a girl in her early twenties with long brown hair and a (I believe) pisces tattoo on her neck and a middle-aged blonde lady with a bun) were so very helpful and sweet. We had a margherita pizza that tasted just like the authentic ones in Italy and the dough balls with nutella for dessert which were a delight. We even spoke with the owner at the end and he's also, not surprisingly, very sweet. This has to be the best italian restaurant in England. Visited again and I need to mention how great Terry was. Amazing host and waitress, loved her.

We had the Bottomless Brunch - food was lovely and the cocktails were varied and delicious.

This is the perfect place to eat if you have the appetite of a toddler. Pretty much empty club sandwich with little to no chicken, one piece of bacon, and ALOT of lettuce and leaves. We left feeling as hungry as when we walked through the doors, but now £17 down for a sad sandwich and some slack service.

It's a really lovely, unique place. And the gluten free pizza was the best I've found in Colchester. It was served cold and then when it was heated for me, the parma ham hadn't been removed, so it was sweaty and tasted weird! I hate complaining a second time, so I pulled a lot of it off

£116 is a little expensive for 2 two adults and 2 children's pizzas with a shared dessert, but it was a nice experience. Although, The back door had to stay open and the kids became cold to touch.

I was in town for a business meeting. Did not stay here but visited this place for a lunch meeting. I had their sour dough pizza which was fresh and delicious. The service was on point. It's a quiet little restaurant with a peaceful/comfortable setting. Would recommend a visit to anyone if you are visiting Colchester and want to get lunch at a reasonable price + great service.

Attended for a meal. There were tables not cleared and been like it for a while, even though the place was not busy. Service very slow, cleared table before everyone had finished their meal and asked if dessert menus required when people still eating. Not able to provide change when paid cash and still added 10% service charge. Very poor and would not recommend even though food was very nice

Fantastic room. Very comfortable and clean. Amazing contact with the host. They have a restaurant below, which you receive a discount for. We already had a meal booked elsewhere, so I can't comment on the food, but it looked very nice when we saw other guest's orders coming out to them.

Brunch was lovely. We don't often say it but it was really worth the price. Chefs know what they're doing! The rest of the staff also very nice. Point taken off for one of the toilets - lights go off a couple of minutes after going in and it's impossible to trigger them back on. Toilet roll miles from the toilet! The toilet seat way too small for the toilet size and not fastened to it at all - be prepared to slide on it all over the place. It was clean though.

Fantastic pizza restaurant, went for my sister's 22nd and the team went the extra mile. Delicious food (including vegan menu) and amazing cocktails. Chef showed my son how the pizza's were made, which made his day.

Previous visits to cuckoo dough have been amazing with great food and service however on this occasion I feel I have a lot to complain about. I was told certain items could not be ordered and then told they could be after ordering an alternative. A member of our party had a food intolerance and this wasn’t picked up on for any further dietary needs assistance despite ordering a meaty pizza with vegan cheese! Then when it came to paying the bill, I was overcharged and then bought change when I questioned this to replace what I had overpaid. I still paid the 10% service charge despite the shocking service. We weren’t at any point offered further drinks, we had to ask for a dessert menu and clean cutlery for our mains. Unfortunately this poor service overshadows the amazing food cuckoo dough is known for and for this reason we won’t be returning in a hurry. The two stars given are purely due to how nice the food was.

Went for a friend’s birthday meal, fair prices and okay food. Didn’t blow me away, but was nice. Took a while for pizzas to come out so wasn’t a ‘quick meal’ but friendly staff.

Lovely place, we had the vegan menu and it was delicious. Our 4 year old had the vegan teddy bear pizza which she loved. Our waiter was especially very kind and helpful - and made some great cocktails too! Thank you!

Such a lovely pizza restaurant tucked away in a side street in Colchester. Really loved the choice of pizza toppings, they had some really unique toppings and the pizzas all had fun names! We tried the pistachios and pesto one after recommendation for our waiter and we loved it! The halloumi and calamari starters weee decent too ! Had a lovely person looking after very friendly and helpful and attentive.

Amazing food, ambience and service We wandered through Colchester and stumbled across this place, it’s amazing. The brunch we had breakfast on a pizza (amazing!) and the grandmas breakfast was huge and a lovely mix of fresh food with a delicious yoghurt that our daughter loved. Service was great and they were really accommodating. An Instagram ready swing which added a sense of fun to our daughters brunch and all round lovely atmosphere and hour spent there. A real gem and an asset to the town. Would come back to the town just for a brunch there!
