Zizi's in Fife

So disappointed, we've been to the Byers road Zizzis many a time and it's a family favourite. We were expecting the same and were sorely disappointed. Thankfully we had booked a table in advance however the place didn't seem busy. The manager who greeted us was great and he was really attentive. However after being taken to the table we were passed to the waiting staff and things went downhill. No-one came near us for a drinks order and we were left waiting for 20 minutes until someone came to take the food order, we then had to prompt them to take a drinks order. The waiting staff were abrupt and had no nicety about them. One was ridiculously rude when they brought food to the table that we hadn't ordered. When the food came it was lovely and couldn't complain about the kitchen at all, it was tasty and of a great standard. Over all the place looks nice, the food was lovely, but the waiting staff we dealt with were rude and unwelcoming.

One of the best restaurants in St Andrews now! It’s been refurbished and it’s so cosy, calm and enjoyable. I love the food selection as well as drinks. Delicious starters, gorgeous pizzas and salads and the best desserts ever! Definitely will be back for more !

Very nice attentive staff. The food was of excellent quality and ample portions. We joined the app and got free Garlic Bread and the prices were reasonable. Would return.

Stopped in to Zizzi's for lunch when in St Andrews, we were seated very quickly as the place was very quiet (it was a Friday lunchtime and the town was quite busy, so that was surprising) . Food was excellent. Well presented, tasted delish. Will be back.

Excellent , well presented food with a wide range innovative menu choices. The priority in a restaurant should always be Taste and our meal exceeded our expectations in this respect. Undoubtedly the best Italian meal we have had in a long time. The waiting staff deserve top marks as well being attentive but never over-bearing or too familiar.

Visited at the weekend and were served by a great server, who was incredibly friendly, helpful and polite. All food was tasty and arrived as expected. We visit Zizzi a lot and this one is very consistent and the restaurant is a nice place to enjoy dinner.

We arrived for lunch and wondered why the restaurant was empty on a busy Sunday lunchtime. We were kept waiting for a long time before we were acknowledged. We were then told they had no pizza dough so no pizzas were available!! We left immediately as this seemed so strange! A supposedly authentic Italian restaurant unable to serve pizza, unbelievable!!

We visited, after booking, and the restaurant was heaving, which always shows something I think! A separate vegan menu, clued up, friendly and efficient waiter and delicious food (the vegan brownie is perfect!). Zizzi really seems to be on the ball when catering for families with mixed dietary requirements: thoroughly recommended!!

This is the second and last time I will be visiting Zizzi.

Delicious food, brilliant to see lots of vegan options (particularly loved the pesto brushetta). Prosecco was great, nothing overpriced either. The place could do with a little more atmosphere and we found the concierge/waiter a little rude, however another waiter was very friendly and attentive.

Once again guys food was amazing cannot fault it kitchen should be proud of themselves. Service was a wee bit slow but were very apologetic. We will be back

We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday on the spur of the moment and were really impressed. The restaurant is pretty big but still maintains a nice ambience and I always like being able to see into the kitchens and watch the pizzas being made. It's a modern feel to the restaurant but nicely done. The toilets are upstairs so might be a little tricky for the elderly/disabled (although there was a 'family/disabled' one on the ground floor too).

For an Italian restaurant in a busy University and Tourist town, the choice on the menu was pretty limited almost guiding you down the pizza path. No penne pasta dish on offer, which is my favourite pasta. The pizzas we had were very good however and ice creams to follow were tasty and very well received. The lad and lass servicing the whole restaurant were run off their feet, but always had a smile for the customers.

Food was absolutely amazing could not fault any of the food. Been a long time since I can say I had such excellent food. Service was slow but management apologised straightaway and explained one of their floor staff cut themselves and had to be taken to hospital 10 out of 10 for me

My husband and I went for my birthday meal. Which we had not bothered. We were tempted to go to the fish and chip shop down the road but we thought no we will stick with our reservation because i have enjoyed two meals at the one in Edinburgh. I ordered the carbonara and whilst eating it i bit into something hard hat would not break down! Pulled it out my mouth and it was a white square bit almost looked like grissle but it was harder. I informed the waiter after leaving most of it and i was informed it was rind off the meat and that happens. Anyway i thought fair enough and we ordered two puddings! The waiter gave us our pudding spoons one was very dirty with spag bol still stuck to it. I informed the mgr that it was dirty and he politely got a new one. We waited at least 30 mins for our pudding it still hadnt arrived so i spoke to the mgr guy who was doing 50 things at once to take them off our bill and can we just pay the bill. He informed me he would chase them up and we wouldnt have to pay for them. We waited a further 10 mins to which i could see him in the kitchen helping the kitchen staff dish food out. Our puddings came and they were fine. We asked for the bill and the two puddings were still on it. We informed he waiter who immediately took them off and asked us who said we could get them for free. I just thought the service was shocking from start to finish. Even my husband who is laid back was even complaining how long we had to wait. The quickest part was them getting the bill to us and us having to pay for it. The toilets were grubby with what looked like snots rubbed on the walls and even the walls in the restaurant were needing a good clean. Food marks etc. Extreme let down and will not be back. You should not leave a restaurant more hungry than what u entered!

Service was perhaps a little slow with only one waiter covering the whole restaurant.

Back in Zizzi's after a couple of years away, (and that visit was a couple of years after the legendary "great refund" meal) so I was not overly optimistic about our lunch appointment. However overall, I had a lovely meal - tasty, and timely. And the others in the group were happy too.

My daughter had the fish gougons from the kids menu. The fish was grey looking and clearly poor quality. There was a thick coating of crumb. The potatoes and beans were fine.

I was there with friends for 3 days and no where else to eat and wouldn't choose anywhere else, perfect food, very friendly staff, cheap, I was with a friend not drinking alcohol and a vegan they were very accommodating and polite, can't speak of this place highly enough, Will definitely go here again if up there will also happily recommend to everyone. Never been to a zizi's before but will definitely go to others in the hope there standards are as high as this one :) I had 3 courses both days there and ll were amazing, tasty and looked lovely

The wait seemed a little long given that the restaurant was fairly quiet (arrived at 1, starters didn't come til 1.50), but it's a lovely place, and the staff were really nice. I'm gluten free and like coming to Zizzis for the choice on the non-gluten menu. The food was great!

We try to visit zizzi in st Andrews once a month. Food is always delicious and service is always great. Staff are very attentive and helpful.

Restaurant was quiet. Service was prompt. We had the venison pasta dish and the lasagne and both were piping hot and tasty. Also ordered a mixed salad which was a good size and had a variety of items and colours. Would return.

Went a while ago with a friend and Waited a very long time for food, I thought it was just a one off night however when my partner attended on Saturday night this was proven normal. Even with it being a Saturday the waiting time for food was atrocious, ordered more drinks which did not even turn up to the very end of the meal, when ordered desserts no other cutlery was given to which we had to constantly ask for it. BUT the thing that really got me was the sick on the floor In the women toilets, which had a strong disgusting smell throughout the bathroom, atrocious for a restaurant in St Andrews. On a positive it was clear the staff were trying their hardest, perhaps more staff would help the slow service.

This restaurant had me on the wrong foot from the moment we walked in. We had a booking for two, arrived to what looked like a restaurant that had been busy but now only half full. We waited whilst they cleared a table for us, what baffled me was the cleared a table in the busiest walkway of the restaurant against a pillar when they had several other tables that could have been cleared. In my opinion it was most probably the worst table in the restaurant. The table next to us was left uncleared during our whole visit. When we ordered the staff were talking more about their rosters and their gripes, rather than our order. We ordered a main each with a couple of sides. Our meals arrived without sides, our sides never ended up arriving. It was obvious that they had preoccupied thoughts when taking the order and no interaction or explanation of menu items was offered. The mains were good and the wine selection was ample and of reasonable quality and price.

My family and often with my in -laws have been going there for a few years now. Especially with young kids, it's an easy choice for us for its spacious inside and kids friendly menu as well as all their own coloring sheets & stickers etc. They serve the best crispy, thin, rustica pizza in Fife & Dundee as far as we're concerned. The crispy battered seafood platter is a must try for a starter and we've tried most of its pizza which they change often and most of them time we're pleased with them.

Just back from restaurant mix up with a voucher we had (my fault) service could not have been better manager apologised that we could not have the deal as we had no activation code. We had to pay for the meal but were given free of charge two glasses of prosseco a glass of coke and two cappuccinos and we still have our voucher for a later date. The staff rescued my birthday lunch. The meal was excellent service first class beautiful restaurant very clean in all areas. The carbonara I had was better than I sampled in Italy. Been to Zizzis numerous times in St Andrews, keep thinking ‘maybe it will be better this time’, but it never has been - the food all tastes the same no matter what you’ve ordered, it’s bound to be bland and texture wise just mush. Visited yesterday and again very disappointed with the food. The only thing with any taste was the garlic bread - which was still of low standard/burnt in places. In The two totally separate dinners served to us, all dishes tasted the same or bland. Even the texture was unpleasant. E.g. a pasta dish is Comparable to a chicken noodle pot from e.g. Morrison’s. E.g. the gluten free pizza does actually taste of burnt cardboard and E.g. even the chocolate banana calzone tasted like hard/dry pizza dough with a very small amount of chocolate actually being inside it (ordered this on 2 occasions, both very disappointing- when I order ‘chocolate’ I expected a restaurant-level chocolate dessert, I am eating out to go all out).

The prime Italian restaurant in St Andrews is Little Italy but getting a reservation during the summer season can be difficult unless one books well ahead of time. Equally good however is Zizzi's. What it lacks in ambience it makes up in friendly service and wholesome food. I had the lasagna on one occasion and spaghetti bolgnaise the second visit. Both dishes were very tasty and the prices very reasonable. Give Zizzi's a try if you like Italian cooking!!
