Ziloufs was the original cocktail bar in Upper Street before Be at One turned up. It had loud nights new how to create a great vibe. However the bartender's really do matter for good cocktails and the previous winning crowd has left (along with the excellent chips with wasabi mayonnaise). Zilouf still has charm with with classy jazz playing away. Sitting next to the foldable glass doors was great as we had a great view of the street but the draft made it uncomfortable after a while. The happy hour has a limited selection of drinks compared to what I remember and the menu lacks the creativity of a few years back. The bartender's preferred that we got the orders from the waiter rather than take it directly. I remember when the bartender's would take our orders and have a conversation and make a few recommendations. Things were less industrial but more personable.Zilouf is not the same but it's still a nice place to get a cocktail and head off for dinner. Saying that the Asian fusion food was good but since I didn't eat I can't say if this is still the same. I would recommend a quick afternoon cocktail at zilouf so you can judge it for yourself.

sadly the restaurant uses an online booking system that doesn't communicate the bookings made to the restaurant, but very welcoming, excellent wine (we had the malbec), and an interesting menu with great food; I recommend the prawn toast. It was quite a short menu, so unless it changes frequently maybe not somewhere to visit too often, but I definitely want to go back on a weekend to try their roasts.I arrived quite a while before my friend - no hassle to order while I waited, and the water that's brought to the table is great - a carafe of tap water, but with lots of lemon, cucumber and mint,

£20 per head inc fresh fruit cocktail. This is not dear at all for Central London Great Location. Plenty of bars, cafes shops etc. Good transport links too. I've been coming here frequently since I first had the pleasure of trying out this roast. I choose either the pork or the beef (I've been told the nut roast is good too). The beef is like an 8 out of 10 and the pork 9.5/10. The meal comes with all the trimmings plus more. They are Thai influence so the dish has a slight Thai twist. Trust me check this place out. Service is above par too. I've never had any complaints, fast service and attentive if you had any queries.

This is one of my favourite places in London. The Roasts are the BEST I've ever come across. Service is always excellent. Ever since I first came here, I was always made very welcome by the staff. Oh to the Em Gee! I absolutely love this place. I went for the first time last month and absolutely can't wait to go back. The food is bloody unbelievable. I mean, they're called Asian fusion. These people know how to fuse! We even ordered more starters after we ate the first starters and our mains because it's that damned delicious (I actually wanted to use a better expletive then)....then we shared a dessert. Then we exploded. That's not true. We had a few more "digestif" before barrelling out of there feeling most jovial as the staff were also absolute gems. Looking after all our needs where acceptable (sadly the waitress refused to marry us all, apparently it's illegal).Definitely one of my new favourite restaurants north of the river!! Thanks for the great time guys.

Have been going to Zilouf's for 5 years now, and it never fails to deliver. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming, and even though I don't go there on a weekly basis, they always recognise me and say a personal hello. The last time I went was Saturday, and the restaurant was jam packed. Easy to see why as the food is delicious. It's 2 courses for £17 (I think it's £15 during the week), best value in the area for sure.I had the crab pancake to start. I was expecting one but was mega happy when there were two to the portion (so was my boyfriend as he got to try some). Great flavours, and the crab was fresh and tasty. Next I had the penang duck curry. This can only be described as divine. Not too spicy, but the ultimate in Asian fusion comfort food. My boyfriend went for the chilli squid which was crispy, tender and HOT with lots of fresh chilli. He then had the beef schnitzel which had a delicious mushroom 'ketchup' on it. Great stuff. The cocktails are great- wen had two each from the menu and then went off menu- all executed perfectly. These guys know their stuff. The waiter told me they doi a great brunch, watch this space for my next review!Awesome place, great to see a family business amidst all of the big corporate brands slowly taking over Angel.

We attended a hen party dinner here. The food was actually very nice and interesting but the service that night was pretty bad. The staff were perfectly friendly once you chased them down, but it took a long time to get served and a couple of peoples meals came after most of us had finished. My main point of complaint, however, is that they have since not refunded the £50 deposit that was put down for the booking. I see absolutely no reason for this as they have now been asked many times. I hope they sort this out asap.

I visited this restaurant with friends recently. Despite the rude staff, the food was poor and the service was slow. The toilets were dirty (a sure way of judging a place) and the lack of concern from the staff when I addressed this was alarming. My wife is a Coeliac, and gluten intolerant. Despite assurances that they could cater, she was VERY ill later in the night. I don't know what happened, but necessary precautions were not taken. Appalling. To top it all, we were a large party, who had been asked to pay a large deposit. We still haven't had it back, 3 months later, despite 7 CALLS to request it and assurances from the owner. I really don't know what this place is all about but I would t go there again. I would avoid this restaurant and its owner at all costs. There are plenty of other establishments who would be more accommodating.

I booked here for a hen party. At the time the food was okay but the customer service that we have received has been appalling. I had to pay 50 pound deposit for the booking which I was assured was refundable on the night. After months of chasing and several phone calls I still have not had this money refunded. Every time I ring I'm assured it will happen but they still owe me the 50 pound. My advice to people thinking about booking this AVOID AVOID AVOID. If they are this dishonest I wouldn't trust them to cook my food!

The service was a bit slow to start with this time but a decent coffee and Ziloufs twist on a full English and we were smiling again. Love the decor in this place too. Been here twice since my last review. I'll talk generally about experiences in August and September. The waiting staff are lovely and warm especially the Scottish brunette. However, it's a shame they have stopped giving cucumber water when you sit down. In September we had the big breakfast and they don't heavily spice the hash like they used to. In fact, everything is a bit less spicy. For me, that hit of spice was the selling point and what made Zilouf's different and an Asian fusion option. Otherwise, I can go to Pera, Cafe La Divina or Blue Legume within 250m and get something similar for around £5 per head less. Still nice and quirky but perhaps success or over-exposure and being busy has seen standards drop.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and had a cocktail with a friend, cocktails weren't great. Paid our bill and moved onto another bar further down the street. About half an hour later the man who had originally served our drinks in Ziloufs came storming into the bar over to us holding a receipt whilst loudly and aggressively announcing across the pub so everyone could hear that we hadn't paid our bill!! We had. Produced my receipt to prove i'd paid, to which the guy mumbled a defensive remark and walked off. NO APOLOGY. Absolutely unbelievable behavior, and extremely embarrassing for my friend and i who had done nothing wrong. Most ridiculous part of it all was that this man had insisted we start a tab and leave a card behind the bar as we were sat on the street, so there's no way we could have left without paying anyway as he had taken my card!!

Ziloufs is an all day venue serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and a great selection of cocktails. The morning after the night before, we wanted a hearty brunch to combat the effects of what started of as one drink at our local (yep, you know that drill). Ziloufs is local and having passed it a few times, I was keen to see what the morning buzz was about. It keeps it simple mostly with a selection of fresh fruit drinks, full english (meat and veg options); eggs, bacon and the like served in various mixes, and a curve ball with veggiemite on the menu! The breakfast did not eclipse every breakfast I have ever had, but for the location and price, it was good. I am not a fan of pretentious breakfasts. No I do not want a rose metal with my eggs thanks, so this is a really good stop for no nonsense, gut filling, hangover bashers.A friendly relaxed team work the room subtly, which is great when you have a pounding headache. No service fails here, on the the ball, but not in your face.I have heard good things about the cocktails, so it warrants an evening visit for that one drink. Yeah right.

We were six in total for lunch; two grandchildren, two parents and two grandparents. Our average age was probably about the age of just about the rest of the clientele! The place was nearly full at 12.15pm, many of the customers enjoying the extensive brunch menu. But we had come for lunch and were pleased that we had booked a table. For Sunday there was the choice of roast beef (excellent with lots of horseradish sauce, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and vegetables), roast duck, roast pork belly, roast lamb chops and a nut roast. The children chose brunch and one adult had a regular brunch and another a veggie brunch. All were very good. The service was pretty good considering how busy the place was and drinks arrived reasonably promptly. The water glasses were filled up regularly without any waitress being prompted. We paid and left without the frequent interminable wait for a bill and crossed to the other side of Upper Street to Udderdelicious for the usual excellent ice cream. An outstanding way to spend Sunday lunch time.

Having never eaten out with this particular mix of friends before, being child free for the evening and having a rare night 'out out' in London (travelled in from Kent) I was hoping for something busy yet relaxed with an interesting menu and enough booze to get nicely tipsy. Ziloufs more than delivered! The menu was very unusual and no one was sure what to have, so the waiter suggested he brought us a selection of dishes until we were full! The idea is to share lots of dishes so this was perfect. The waiter knew stories behind different dishes and cod recommend cocktails to go with various dishes. I high recommend the espresso martini. Following a number of recommendations, my wife and I went to Zilouf's on a whim for brunch on a Sunday. We turned up without a booking but were seating immediately and provided with a menu for both brunch and Sunday roasts - we both ordered the Big Breakfast. This was a bit of a twist on the standard Full English, with poached eggs, homemade beans, an onion hash and avocado salsa in addition to the usual bacon, sausage, mushrooms, etc.The breakfast was a really large portion, which both of us really enjoyed. The ingredients were all good quality and mostly very well cooked - my one complaint is that the bacon was a little burnt, but this was a pretty minor issue.Overall, I thought Zilouf's provided good food for a very reasonable price, especially considering the quantity provided. Very pleased and I will be back again - next time I want to try the roast, which looked pretty special!

Although Zilouf's has been on Upper Street for a long time, we've never managed to give it a try. With another restaurant being booked, I decided to book this for a quiet birthday meal with some friends. What a hit! We'll all be back. It's not often we sit and talk all night about the food we're having. Usually it's all about catching up over some pasta or med veg - as that's all vegetarians get lumped with. What an excellent choice for veggies. At last - a chef with imagination!Beautifully presented, fresh and with surprising ingredients, this meal with cocktails, wine and whisky was a bargain. Really special food for not a lot of money. If you give Zilouf's a go, it'll turn out to be a little 'secret place' that you can recommend to friends that'll earn you brownie points. Seriously, it's a winner.Very nice informed staff and you're not crowded and hassled and 'sold' to. Great night. Thanks.

A special birthday for a friend , for which the restaurant organised the menu and wines after an earlier tasting sessionThere were 14 in the group on two tables , the service was excellent timed to perfection with each tasting plate explainedThe good is best described as Pan Asian ,prepared by a bunch of very competent Aussie guys in the Kitchen. The steak tartare Asian style, was to die for,as were all the other dishes.Just try it!

We've never eaten at Ziloufs but enjoy going in for their cocktail happy hour - 2 cocktails for £10 before 7pm. The cocktails always taste great and have a bit of a twist.

Came here with a large group of friends and had a fab night out. Cocktails made by a really lovely barman and we snacked on the most amazing chips which came with the divine mustard mayo. Really enjoyed the whole experience

I was traveling with a group of 10 from the U.S. and we found this restaurant by chance. The staff was incredibly friendly and nice and they easiliy accomodated our large group. we all had breakfast and were impressed by the quality and freshness of the ingredients. the food tasted great and the prices were reasonable. This was one of the top three places we ate at while in England.

My brief for a girlie night out (really out, not just the local pub - Mums On The Town) was cocktails, cocktails and some food to set us up for the evening. Zilouf's ticked all the boxes. Located towards the Highbury end of Upper Street, we entered a seemingly regular pub, the clientele young, gorgeous and trendy (we fitted it perfectly, obviously). At the back, a dining room, cosy and quirky - some of the wallpaper could be construed as slightly rude, were they leaves, were they...? Lovely, attentive and knowledgeable staff advised us on the cocktail menu, classics with a twist. Or, as we discovered, 'blow-your-head-off cocktails!' First round was a Margarita, a Mojito and a strawberry Daiquiri, giving the nod to the classics, along with a Hoxton 100 (ginger, lychee, chilli, lemon and fizz) and an Overproof Hurricane (a blend of rums, pineapple, Cointreau, lime, spices, and passionfruit). Strong, was one word. Second round was mainly Hoxton 100s. Oh yes, good choice. The tapas-style small plates were perfect for sharing. Of the ten dishes on the menu we ordered eight, leaving out only the sprouting broccoli (I mean, who needs that on a night out) and the steak tartare - it's too rare for some people. But the dishes we chose were a selection of mouth-watering plates, all modern with an Asian-fusion theme. From the pork belly to the prawn toast, the flavours were zingy, fiery and oh-so-tasty, the seared salmon was 'lush', the cuttlefish fritter, 'unusual', and the spiced crispy beef the 'chilli-est' dish we had. A couple of vegetarian options - beetroot and feta salad, and a miso and apple concoction complemented pretty well, as did the triple cooked chips with mustard aioli. Feeling full - but not too stuffed, it was great to taste a little of everything, and head out for the rest of the evening with tingling tongues, taking the atmospheric buzz of Zilouf's with us.

popped in here after a wedding at the Town Hall - great cappuccino (you'd be surprised how difficult that is in London!) Indie Husband ordered Baked eggs and chorizo yum! Relaxed vibe and friendly/efficient staff. 1950s retro decor aka leather sofas. Food aussie fusion and a bit of moroccan thrown in. Customers were mixed - DINKS, 30-somethings with the occasional kid and trendy 40yr olds who've outgrown their kids!

This is hands down the best Sunday roast dinner I have ever had. The beef was cooked to perfection, the gravy was tasty, the veg delicious. I could not fault one part of the dish. There was a bit of a wait for the meal but it was definitely worth it! An amazing roast dinner and a bloody mary all for £17 - you can't argue with that!

Been here many times for drinks as is quite a local bar in the evenings but never considered it for a sunday lunch until suggested by a friend. Had the roast beef - portion was huge and everything on the plate was cooked really well. Service was attentive. Will definitely come back for food.

Have been here quite a few times as I live locally. The food menu changes quite regularly and always has something fresh and new on it, I had an amazing beef tartare on my last visit served with prawn crackers, a must try!The cocktails are boozy, fun and 2 for 1 at some times (that I've always managed to miss, probably good for my head the next day) and served by really friendly bar staff. A really good neighbourhood restaurant and bar, but I'd probably travel here if I didn't live so close anyway. Apparently brunch is well worth a visit, that's going to be my next hangover cure :)

We have sometimes stopped here for a drink or two after an Arsenal game but, on the whole, our experience in this place isn't a good one. If you walk in with an Arsenal scarf, you get hostile looks from their mostly hipster crowd. And their service can be good one day and downright rude the next. We've eaten here too - food is nothing to shout about, especially given their prices.

This place was recommended by a friend and it didn't let us down. We visited on a Sunday and had the roast beef and pork between us. The food arrived on a huge plate with plenty on it so certainly no scrimping on the portions. Both meat and veg cooked spot on with nice homemade yorkies and very tasty gravy. Querky surroundings and friendly service made for a great all round experience. Will definitely return.

We have found this bar recently by popping in for cocktails on happy hour. We were so impressed by wonderful staff and very special service and great atmosphere, so decided to come back to celebrate our friend's Birthday on Monday. The staff was absolutely brilliant!!!They made our evening very very special!! We were amazed how much effort they put! The dessert we brought for our friend was nicely placed on the plate stuffed with candles and beautiful slices of strawberries added on top and also, we were offered a complimentary platter of delicious house desserts! Wow!!! We had a steak for our meal - presentation and quality at the highest level! This place is definitely an exceptional!! We would recommend to everyone. Once again, we would like to thank the staff for making the evening beautiful and fabulous!! We will see you soon ;) Loreta

Had breakfast here last Sunday and it was pretty brilliant to be honest. I eat breakfast out most weekends and am delighted to have discovered Ziloufs. The place was pretty cool and I liked the décor. The staff were friendly and I have no complaints. But my god the breakfast was good. I had their take on a Full English with lovely homemade beans and a superb spicy onion hash. My wife had Eggs Benedict and they were equally delicious. Can't wait to go back.

I are here with my two daughters. We had the duck, pork and the lamb. The meat was perfectly cooked but the real wow was the quality. Not just of our meat but of the delicious accompaniments and the apple purée. The staff are friendly and attentive (thank you Majella!) The quirky decor adds to the atmosphere and ask the staff about some of the pieces. Highly recommend a visit!

Zilouf's is the home to by far the tastiest steak tartare in this part of London. Succulent and spicy and always really, really fresh. The rest, I'm afraid, is quite average and uninviting: rude and careless staff (once they tried to charge me twice for a single bottle of (über-overpriced) wine, and did not even try to apologise when told that they made a 'mistake'); dark, loud and overcrowded ambiance; lousy cocktails... One should go there in the lunch time and avoid the evenings.

I've been coming here for four years, consider it my 'local' even ; )It has a low-lit, calm ambience and the staff are always friendly, expert and never stressed. Which I love. They feature artists works on their walls and have a famous aquarium in an old tv set.. nice sofas and atmosphere of relaxing.Foods' of a high bistro standard and well presented too. Echo what last reviewer said about flowing cucumber/mint table water... nice!

The venue was chockablock when we arrived. Looks to be a very popular spot. The atmosphere was just great for our office Christmas party. The staff were friendly and the service was good. I enjoyed the food. I had lamb ribs to start and steak for main. Both had a Thai slant to them. A thoroughly enjoyable evening all round.

What a real treat for the senses. This place was informal but the food spoke for itself. 2 for 1 cocktails set the scene for a great night. Perfectly cooked Scallops with two little saucesand coriander notes were excellent. Then the jungle curry was a Thai style delight. Loads of seafood and plenty of spice but not too hot so the food could be enjoyed. I'll be back very soon. I only found ziloufs because it used to be Tiger Lill's many years ago and I wanted to pop back for some flaming wok food. Will, the restaurant manager, was so enthusiastic about the food and the great gold coast trained chef that we went anyway and I recommend you do the same.

My girlfriends mum was in town yesterday and They'd had a busy weekend. We needed somewhere to get a decent roast with a nice relaxed, un-rushed vibe. Zilouf's was recommended to me by a friend as in their words 'one of the best roasts in London'. It didnt disappoint. Not only was my plate of astronomic proportions, it was also perfectly cooked! The bone-marrow and salt beef croquettes were probably the best 'trimming' on my plate with the excellent yorkies coming in a close second. Quite proud of my choice in wine as well (with a little help from a very friendly waitress): A Chilean red. The girlfriend and her mum were feeling a little worse for wear and were delighted to find out that if you order a Bloody Mary with your roast you get the lot for £17.50!!!If you like a decent Sunday roast for a decent price, this is a MUST try.

A relative newcomer to the area, myself and my girlfriend had passed Ziloufs more than once and always commented on how inviting and, more often than not, busy it was.We ventured in last Tuesday and in a happy coincidence it was steak night. 2 for £20 made our decision easy and the steaks were excellent! The staff were friendly and fun and the atmosphere low lit and relaxing. We returned on the Sunday for more of the same and sampled their roast which was quite amazing, everything done just right. Although very busy the staff still had time for everyone and our lingering stay at our table (the cocktails fault!!) wasn't frowned upon.Thoroughly recommended, we're pretty sure we might have found our local.

I really enjoyed the prawn salad we ordered, but the satay chicken was slightly too dry. The service was fine, though the kitchen staff were a bit noisy, as we could hear them from our table. Atmosphere-wise, it wasn’t too bad overall.

We found this en route to a gig in Camden. Absolutely everything we ordered was delicious - we had the sticky chicken, kimchi pancake (oh my god!), chicken dumplings and a beef bulgogi - the only problem was that we ate so much of it that we could barely move for the rest of the evening! Service was amazing and the food exceptional, go if you can!

Becoming one of my favourite restaurants, the mains are great but the starters are outstanding. If you like sweet chili I recommend the spare ribs.
