Worst ever in 40 years - soggy white batter - rock hard cardboard chips - so bad it doesn't deserve 1 star - 6.70 down the drain - an absolute disgrace

Large haddock supper bought including mushy peas. I've been buying takeaways from Zanfre for about 18 months on occasion. I've noticed a deterioration in standards. This time the haddock was overcooked, batter dark and not of a pleasure giving nature. Was it overcooked or cooked and put back in to 'hot it up'? As usual chip portion very generous, staff okay, clean appearance of shop. The batter needs to be of constant standard and good. Portion size of fish seems to vary too. Have been to their branch in Mintlaw a few times - seems better there food and staff wise.

I've known of Zanres for many years often frequenting the original chip shop in Peterhead. The branch in Ellon lets them down. I ordered a "large " haddock supper and waited as it was cooked freshly. Usually a good sign. The size of the portion of chips wasn't huge and if this was the large haddock I'm glad I didn't go for medium or small. The fish itself was nice and fresh with firm flesh and it flaked well as fresh haddock should. It was let down though by the pale looking, undercooked and soggy batter. For me the delight of a fish supper is that crunch of batter with fresh firm fish in the middle. Totally disappointing.

My husband and I bought a medium and a large fish and chips, was asked to wait in the car and they weren’t even busy! After 20 mins or so we collected food, when we arrived home and opened the boxes the portions were Ridiculously small, we paid £26 for poor quality food and we will never be returning. We saw on their own website for the Ellon branch that the owner only replied to the positive reviews thanking them… but I’m yet to read the owner being concerned over the dissatisfied customers.. terrible!

Bought a haggis pudding tht was inedible due to salt content for the second time and the ginger boy with wild acne gave me all this garbage on king rib when I clearly said no. absolutely disgusted. Waste of money. People visiting ellon are pretty screwed for chippy wi zanre and jax chip bar being the only options # never again

I phoned in an order and was told it would be ready in 20mins.. arrived on time and was given a buzzer and told to sit in my car as my order would be a few minutes. Still sitting in my car half an hour later I began to wonder if the buzzer was working as 50 mins had passed since placing my order. As I walked into the shop to ask if there was a problem with the buzzer it went off. Most of the order was ok apart from the chips, they were cold. My lemon sole was the exception it was so hard and dried up I could hold it with my finger and thumb and it stood upright without the slightest offer of a bend in it, looked like rubber toy fish from my grandchildren’s kitchen and was inedible. Disappointed to say the least as it was a birthday treat for me.

The place seemed busy so we were hopeful but it wasn't great. Chewy chips and fish in soggy batter. If I hadn't been so hungry it would have gone in the bin. We hadn't had a fish supper for a while and it'll be a long time I think before we have another.

Was told 25minutes on app, arrived on time to wait another 25mins outside! Missing items. Won't be back

If in doubt go elsewhere. Terrible service, terrible food. This place overpromises and massively underdelivers. I can't believe that this place is busy. I'm convinced they make you wait just to appear busy. Often wait 45 mins after agreed time for collection. We have tried this place 4 times and not once has it met expectations.

Despite a great meal when they first opened in Ellon this establishment is poor at best and you should not be fooled as I was, into assuming that it would match the Mintlaw Chipper. Yesterday I picked up lunch from there for the second time and for the second time have ended up with Jelly belly, something I have never had from a Chipper before in my life. I will not be going back, as lesson is now learned.

Been serval times and won’t be going back. Staff is extremely slow for the amount of staff they have working, on some occasions having to wait over a hour. They also sometimes miss items from orders. You can see this when serval people double check orders so not the only one. One occasion we called an order in and said it would be 25 mins. We popped into the chippy to see if it was ready and they had no order?! Avoid like the plague.

Ordered a take away ,Paid online ,2 hours and nothing,Called the shop ,Said the app wasn't working and to re order .Even tho the money was taken of my account .They said they didn't know when I would get the money back for my first order

placed order online - order delivery time 45 minutes placed order around 7pm not peak hours - waited well over an hour for order. Order arrived with wrong sauces on items , 2nd order then arrived!!! i had been charged for 2 orders alto i only placed one! - delivery driver refused to take food back as shop would now be closed. told to contact the next day. Contacted directly next day was basically called a liar and told i had placed to orders - asked for them to explain how the 2nd order that had arrived had almost doubled the size of the first - still waiting for an answer. 2nd order arrived with correct sauces! was told if i had phoned the night before i would of been offered a 10% off my next order! MADE 1 ORDER WAS CHARGED FOR 2! customer service is very poor! wouldn't use Ellon one again! Have only wrote on here for that reason - because i was really disgusted in the customer service i received when i contacted them regarding the above.

Awful undercooked food, chips clearly cooked in a tumble dryer- hard and just not cooked, along with a king rib with terrible soggy undercooked batter. Huge hassle to get a refund, took hours and several calls and messages. Apparently, Zanres can only give refunds from one location, not sure where that is? But if you persevere you will get one , I managed to get mine delivered to my house. Not the best experience when you’ve been bereaved and thought you’d pop down and eat after a day dealing. Would not go near again

Just had a medium Haddock with mushy peas from here. Hand on heart, i can't remember having a tastier, fresher piece of fish anywhere and i work all over the country. Had to wait a while as it was cooked to order, but well worth the wait *****

Yet again excellent hot fish/ large scampi and chips delivered/ Up till now the food has been freshly cooked every time......keep it up guys.
